* ''Literature/TheSilmarillion'' has a gender-inverted example. Nerdanel is described as "not among the fairest of her people". Which, since she's a princess, probably doesn't mean she is merely plain. Her oldest son Maedhros is a FieryRedhead and [[HeroesWantRedheads the only character specifically called sexy in the entire Legendarium]]. Not beautiful, not fair, but "comely". Interestingly, he seems to actually be the spitting image of his mother: which might imply that masculine women are not desirable in elvish culture, but feminine men are (and this DoubleStandard would make sense given what else we know of the culture). Although another possibility could be that Maedhros inherits his father's darker complexion, making him a DarkSkinnedRedHead (a fairly common interpretation among fan artists). Unlike the norm for this trope however, Maedhros is not-canonically-anyone's love interest.

Congratulations, you've just met The Ugly Guy's Hot Daughter. Sometimes, not only is there a lack of StrongFamilyResemblance, but they barely even look like they're of the same ''species''. Often this will be {{handwave}}d by either stating that the girl is a [[StrongFamilyResemblance spitting image]] of her [[UglyGuyHotWife mother]] or by stating that her father [[IWasQuiteALooker used to be as attractive as his daughter, and simply lost his looks with age]].
