* During UsefulNotes/WorldWarTwo, the Royal Navy planned to destroy the St. Nazaire drydock (the only one large enough for the battleship ''Tirpitz'' to use) by using special forces aboard the old destroyer HMS ''Campbeltown'' to ram it. They succeeded in reaching and ramming the drydock and disgorging the commandos to cause havoc... but did minimal damage, while most of the commandos were captured or died in combat. The Germans congratulated themselves on withstanding a rather ill-thought out raid (since drydock gates are naturally pretty tough)... at which point they found out that the Royal Navy had ''also'' packed ''Campbeltown'''s bow full of explosives, which then destroyed the drydock for good.
