Sometimes this [[GoneHorriblyRight works too well.]] The viewer is drawn towards the scene [[DistractedByTheSexy but misses all the exposition.]] This can lead to the show being BestKnownForTheFanservice, or for the claim of sexposition being seen as little more than an excuse to insert unnecessary sexual content simply because the venue allows for it.

Compare IHaveBoobsYouMustObey when a female character uses her ... assets to persuade another character, and SexSells, which is where sexy imagery is used as an eye-grabber for advertising.

* With the rise of premium cable and streaming services in recent years, sexposition is used so often it has become not just a trope, but an outright cliche. Mainstream network TV has also begun to feature more of this as clothed/non-explicit scenes depicting sexual intercourse have become allowed under the TV-14 rating, to the extent that virtually every series produced for American, British and Canadian TV rated TV-14 (or equivalent) or higher contains scenes that fall under this trope.

* While the term is a new one, the idea is not. This concept often operated as a censor decoy. In most countries, censor boards are under instructions to ensure that their cutting does not effect the flow of the story. This way, the censor had to either permit the scene in question or have to explain to his superiors why exactly was there a sudden plot hole in the movie as approved.
* More GenreSavvy censors averted this by asking for a detailed scripts before allowing shooting. This was not possible for foreign films. US made films often use this to ensure they get in to the now very lucrative Middle East and South Asian market.

The term "sexposition" is a fairly new one. [[http://cultural-learnings.com/2011/05/29/game-of-thrones-you-win-or-you-die/ It was coined in 2011 by TV critic Miles McNutt]] to describe the numerous such scenes on ''Series/GameOfThrones'', which features a number of characters who are or frequently use prostitutes and has become known for taking the sexposition techniques to new heights. It has, however, been retroactively applied to older shows including ''Series/TheSopranos'' and ''Series/{{Deadwood}}''.

* In Creator/JossWhedon's film version of ''Theatre/MuchAdoAboutNothing'', Don John's minion Conrad is [[GenderFlip turned into a woman]], and his lover, specifically so that his "plain-dealing villain" speech could be turned into this for visual interest.

* Done InUniverse in the ''WesternAnimation/{{Futurama}}'' episode [[Recap/FuturamaS1E8ABigPieceOfGarbage "A Big Piece of Garbage"]]. The documentary the Planet Express gang downloads about the Garbage Ball is also porn (because TheInternetIsForPorn).
