* Standard practice in much of medieval and Renaissance Europe whenever TheBlackDeath struck. Whenever someone came down with the plague the rest of their household would be confined to the house until forty days elapsed without anyone else developing symptoms, enforced by armed guards. In rural areas entire villages would be similarly quarantined, and most ports had designated anchorages for ships coming from anywhere they might have been exposed to the pestilence. [[GodzillaThreshold This was pretty well justified in the circumstances.]]
