** The third book, ''The Phoenix and the Serpent'', has Indian deity Sunniva - who for all her easygoing Cloudcuckoolander tendencies is ''outraged'' to find a 15-year-old Asgardian WalkingTheEarth alone (as Asgardians live for several thousand years, this amounts to basically little more than a toddler). The narration from her point of view [[MamaBear promises]] the ''yet'' unknown parents all kinds of ''nasty'' first thing off.

* ''Film/ChildrensPartyAtThePalace'' has Mary Poppins and the ''actually real'' [[UsefulNotes/HMTheQueen Queen Elizabeth II]]. Both are shown to be very friendly and caring towards children during the theatrical production.

* [[http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-1810 SCP-1810]] of the ''Wiki/SCPFoundation'' loves children and will take care of any distressed or lost child it comes across. Which would be heart-warming, except its flawed understanding of humans and the fact that it will do horrific things to non-children if it thinks it will make a child happy renders it creepy.

** Joshua, a.k.a. [[spoiler: Jesus]], in the sequel, who's gentle, kindly, and helps talk Harry through a lot of his problems, specifically stating - when Harry notes that he could be doing more important things - that he will never have anything more important to do than comfort a child in pain. Considering who he really is, this is not particularly surprising.

Describing a character as being fond of and having a soft spot for children is an automatic PetTheDog since ChildrenAreInnocent with bonus points if [[LickedByTheDog the kids like the character back]]. (Double bonus points if the character is normally a hard-ass around adults.) Characters who [[ChildHater don't like kids]] are usually villains or anti-heroic. Note that this trope doesn't apply if it is a disguise put on to avoid suspicion for [[PaedoHunt something else entirely...]]

This is mainly a trait of the GentleGiant, the EmotionalBruiser, AllLovingHero, and a ''requirement'' for PurityPersonified[[note]]Though not every friend to all children is PurityPersonified.[[/note]] unless PureIsNotGood is in play, and a redeeming trait for many {{antihero}}es. Overlaps with WouldntHurtAChild, as characters who fit this trope not only are reluctant to injure children, but would go out of their way to protect children if it was necessary.

Gods help you if you're dumb enough to harm a child in the presence of someone with this character trait. They will not forgive you, ever. (Though, this trope is a trait of many deities, so you may not get that help.)

* The doctor, pediatrician, and author of children's and parenting books (including ''Child of the Drawing Room'' and ''How to Love a Child'') [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janusz_Korczak Janusz Korczak]] was reputedly one of these. Known variously as 'Mister Doctor' or 'The Old Doctor', he never had children of his own but ran two orphanages in Warsaw in the 1930s. When Warsaw's Jewish Orphanage was forced to relocate to the municipal Jewish Ghetto in autumn 1939 he moved into the Ghetto to be with them. In August 1942 the Jewish Council of Warsaw deported a number of unproductive demographics in response to the (German) Generalgouvernement's demand that they hand over a certain percentage of their population for 'deportation to the east' (i.e. euthanasia). The orphanage was written off. Even though he was not to be deported and was guaranteed protection by the Jewish Council, Polish Resistance, and reputedly the German Order Police (some say they simply wanted to avert a potential PR disaster, others that they had read his books to their own children), he and his co-director, fellow pedagogist, and lifelong friend Feiga Lipschitz voluntarily accompanied the 192 orphans to keep them calm. * WWII Soviet soldier example: the German army pushed the Soviet defenders back to the river in Stalingrad; in a furious battle, the Soviets surrounded the city, cut off the Germans from their supply lines, and started to annihilate them room-by-room and building-by-building. Some children who were kept as servants by the German army were trapped in such a building and called out in fear. The Soviet soldiers who found them immediately formed a defense perimeter and escorted them to safety. Some of the children were adopted into the unit because they were orphans. Years later, one child related:

* Another WWII example: A fairly anti-semitic Polish policeman, known in his town for arresting lots of Jews, was sweeping an abandoned ghetto with other policemen and the Nazis, looking for any hiding Jews. Seeing a ladder leading up into an attic, he climbed the ladder to find a Jewish mother and her children hiding there, picking them out with the light of his lantern. He could have gotten massive rewards and a promotion. But when the SS officer in charge called to him from below to ask if he had found anything, [[PetTheDog he replied, "No." and left.]] We do not know what happened to that policeman, but the family survived and remembered his action that day.
* After the success of the Creator/RankinBass Christmas Special ''[[WesternAnimation/RudolphTheRedNosedReindeer1964 Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer]]'', actor and singer Creator/BurlIves would frequently allow families and visitors into his house during his lifetime. He also enjoyed spending time with children due to voicing Sam the Snowman in the aftermentioned special, to the point that he would put up a large Christmas decoration of Sam outside his house to attract visitors.
* The Music/BillyJoel song "Leningrad" tells the story of Viktor (an actual person whom Joel met while touring the Soviet Union in 1987), a former member of the Red Army who, after seeing the horrors of war, became a clown, and found happiness bringing joy to children.
* Music/MichaelJackson tried to give himself this image, claiming that his charity work and eccentric ManChild nature was partly because [[FreudianExcuse he hadn't much of a childhood himself]]. Unfortunately, multiple accusations of child molestation brought against him ruined that, and though he was never ''actually'' found guilty of such crimes in court (and friends like Creator/MacaulayCulkin vouched for his innocence), [[ConvictedByPublicOpinion they left a black mark on his reputation]] until [[DeadArtistsAreBetter he died]]. Bringing up this ElephantInTheLivingRoom issue now, instead of just celebrating him for his music and charitable work, inevitably leads to condemnation from the VocalMinority of his fanbase.
* Similar to Jackson, Creator/LewisCarroll was very well known for spending any time he wasn't busy writing (and occasionally time he was) playing with the local children in his garden. And like Jackson, this has given rise to the rumor that his interest in them was more of a pedophilic nature as opposed to a friendly one, especially due to his collecting naked photos of them once they were finished playing. However, it has been mostly agreed upon that it was more just part of the era of the 1800s that children often played with few to no clothes on, as few could afford play clothes and dirtying their dress clothes would ruin them. It is also reported that Carroll always asked the respective child's parents' consent before photographing them.
* Actors who play [[Series/DoctorWho the Doctor]] are especially known for this, but special mention goes to Creator/TomBaker and Creator/ChristopherEccleston - both were known for clashing with production staff, and both struggled with mental illness, but ''always'' were sweet and lovely to their young fans.
* Fred Rogers, a man who devoted his life to children, and helped raise a generation of them via ''Series/MisterRogersNeighborhood''.
* Creator/AngelinaJolie. She's crisscrossed the globe on behalf of UNICEF and UNHCR, often in the company of her then-significant other Creator/BradPitt, and regularly takes time out from her movie shoots to work on some project involving children or refugees (or refugee children). She often keeps her work low-key so as not to have her celebrity status distract from the matter at hand; for instance, at the time of this writing, she and Pitt visited Bosnia to look into the issue of civilians who haven't been able to return home even 15 years after the war's end but are making no public appearances.
* Creator/AudreyHepburn. During the last decade of her life, she did tremendous work for UNICEF, virtually becoming the face of the organization. Several months before her death she visited Somalia at the height of that country's famine; the stark photos taken during that event (a particularly [[TearJerker heartbreaking]] one showed her, with an incredibly grim expression on her face, cradling a child dying of starvation) helped raise world awareness of the disaster. She was strongly influenced in her work by memories of the hardships (including starvation) that she herself had to endure as a teenager in Nazi-occupied Holland.
* Actress Creator/MargaretHamilton, best known as [[Film/TheWizardOfOz the Wicked Witch of the West]], started out as a kindergarten teacher and later during the 1950s, she taught at Sunday school for a time. She actually loved children and doted upon them. Afraid of being typecast, she once appeared on a pair of ''Series/MisterRogersNeighborhood'' episodes as Margaret H. Witch when she helped to clear up any misunderstandings that arose from ''Film/TheWizardOfOz'' as she "transformed" into a witch by putting on makeup and a costume, showing them that who she was in real life shouldn't be confused with the character she played.
* Marge Schott, the somewhat-bonkers[[note]]By which we mean [[RacistGrandma wildly racist]][[/note]] owner of the [[UsefulNotes/MLBTeams Cincinnati Reds]] 1984-99 loved kids (despite having no children of her own), and would let them run around the outfield before games at Riverfront Stadium.
* A non-human variant: [[JustForPun Grandpaw]] Mason is an aging former feral cat that was successfully rehabilitated. On the outside, he looks quite imposing, [[DentedIron wearing the scars of his life on the streets]], but he likes nothing more than to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZiJkicepzM snuggle and play with the foster kittens his caretaker brings home.]] In fact, working as a foster grandpa most likely helped extend his life (along with the love and care of the human who took him in).
* Also from the world of baseball, Creator/BabeRuth was famous for his love of children and involvement with children's causes. Ruth was notorious in his time for [[BoisterousBruiser drinking, womanizing, carousing, and gluttony]] (to the point that his only child was an illegitimate daughter), but there's no doubt that he sincerely loved children. Many suspect these had a common cause -- Ruth never really properly grew up himself, as he had a hard childhood and then was flung into fame and glory at a young age.
* Creator/JimCummings will call children in hospitals and brighten their day by talking to them as Franchise/WinnieThePooh. And part of the reason he wanted to be involved with Disney's ''WesternAnimation/ThePrincessAndTheFrog'' was because he claimed that Tiana (the movie's lead character) looks exactly like his adoptive daughter.
* 1930s gangster/bank robber John Dillinger once apparently carjacked a family with kids in the back, but made a point of not hurting anyone and patted one of the kids on the head before getting out while reassuring the parents "Don't worry, we like kids."
* [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_Gein Ed Gein]], of all people. He was proven to be behind some truly disgusting acts (and suspected of worse), but when it came to kids? Before he was found out and arrested, his neighbors would hire him as a babysitter. He was consistently described as caring and benevolent to the children placed in his care.
* Creator/DougWalker, in a much less screwed up way than his character of WebVideo/TheNostalgiaCritic. You only have to put on a random [=VLog=] or commentary to see how much he cares about children and hates movies that treat them like idiots.
* WebVideo/DiamandaHagan is an aunt and loves to spoil her nieces and nephews.
* There's a reason that most of Wrestling/JohnCena's fanbase consists of children. In fact, he's granted over 500 wishes for the Make a Wish foundation.
* All of the adult human cast of ''Series/SesameStreet'' are good with kids, but [[https://www.bobmcgrath.com/ Bob McGrath]], in particular, fits this trope to a "T;" both on- and off-camera, he is as gentle and sweet as can be around the little ones. Naturally, since becoming involved with the show, he has been a devoted advocate of organizations dedicated to children's causes, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnrymzwUrpU&feature=share even once appearing in a PSA for UNICEF]].
** Interestingly, he started his career as a '50s-'60s pop singer, gearing towards a slightly more adult audience; after his first couple of decades on ''Sesame Street'', however, he found some success recording albums of kids' songs.
* Children's author and illustrator Creator/TomieDePaola was always very good with children, whether in his interactions with young fans or in his own family. (The latter is chronicled in his book, ''The Baby Sister'', in which [[WriteWhatYouKnow he recounted the start of his relationship with his little sister, Maureen]].) More's the pity, then, that he never had any kids of his own (though for what it's worth, he did have a slew of nieces and nephews).
* Creator/MarkHamill has been a hero and role model to many generations of children as [[Characters/StarWarsLukeSkywalker Luke Skywalker]]. He recognizes how much the character means to them, and he'll never hesitate to offer his support to young fans facing hardship in their lives. The fact that he has three kids of his own definitely helps.
* Music/JohnDenver had a big soft spot for kids. He adopted two (Zachary and Anna Kate) during his first marriage and fathered one of his one (Jessie Bell) in his second. Subsequently, a good deal of his social activism work was dedicated to causes for children's welfare.
* Creator/JohnWaters has talked about teaching a 1st-grade class where they do improvs of airplane crashes and Music/JustinBieber vampire movies. In his own words, "I'm good with kids. [[SelfDeprecation Even though I look like a child molester.]]"
* Creator/JRRTolkien was, by all accounts, a doting parent and a grandfatherly figure. His academic colleague George Sayer once discovered the professor surrounded by a group of neighborhood children; Tolkien explained quite seriously, "We're playing trains. I'm [[WesternAnimation/ThomasAndFriends Thomas the Tank Engine]]. Puff, puff."
* Oddly enough, UsefulNotes/VladimirLenin. He was very fond of kids and would spend hours playing with them -- when his friends came to visit, he loved playing with their children. He and his wife never had any, but given that both are recorded to have been quite sad that they never had any offspring of their own, it's suspected that they simply couldn't. (Naturally, [[UsefulNotes/JosefStalin Stalin]] twisted this by consistently portraying Lenin as a friend and protector of children in his propaganda, even though Lenin, who despised [[CultOfPersonality personality cults]], would have been appalled by the extensive use of his image by Stalin's regime and particularly by the manipulative tactics of having the [[AbusiveParents child-abuser]] Stalin use his image this way.)
** Subverted in the execution of Alexei Nikolaevich, heir to the Russian throne (who was only thirteen years old, and was completely innocent), as Lenin approved of it after the fact and did nothing to punish those responsible. [[WordOfSaintPaul Leon Trotsky]] even suggested in his journal that Lenin ordered the execution of the Russian royal family himself, though to this day there is no definitive proof.
* During his stint as the Mayor of Carmel, Creator/ClintEastwood would use the position's modest salary to host ice cream parties for the town's children.
* Yet another WWII example: in the last year of the war, Soviet planes bombed facilities in the German countryside in support of military operations. During one such run, it happened that two Wehrmacht soldiers went to their home village and on the way found several children playing in the woods. When they noticed the planes approaching, rather than leave them alone they gathered them and attempted to flee, which then turned out futile. So they simply [[HeroicSacrifice shielded the children with their own bodies]]. The two soldiers died but the children (fortunately) managed to survive. The grave marking this action still exists near the ruins of Castle Falkenstein.
* Creator/GKChesterton ''adored'' children. Tragically unable to have any themselves, he and his wife hosted frequent parties for any and all children in the neighborhood where they lived.
* Creator/BorisKarloff loved kids and used to [[MeanCharacterNiceActor dress up as Santa Claus to deliver presents to a children's hospital]].
* Creator/EijiTsuburaya, of ''Franchise/{{Godzilla}}'' and ''Franchise/UltraSeries'' fame. He cared deeply about children and worked very hard to make his work kid-friendly. He was quoted as saying to his crew "Remember, children will be watching, don't show [[FamilyUnfriendlyViolence anything too cruel]]." and "Don't destroy the dreams of children."
* Creator/GeneWilder recognized just how iconic his role as [[Film/WillyWonkaAndTheChocolateFactory Willy Wonka]] was and adored how children always lit up when they recognized him. For the last three years of his life, he suffered from Alzheimer's but this was not made public until after he died. Why? Because he wanted them to still feel comfortable approaching him and not feel sorry for "poor old Mr. Wonka." He didn't want to be responsible for one less smile in the world. It especially applied to his relationship with the child actors for ''Willy Wonka''. He [[IntergenerationalFriendship became close friends with Peter Ostrum]] (who played Charlie). When it came time to shoot his infamous outburst at the end of the film, Wilder desperately wanted to tell Peter just how mad he was going to be, because he didn't want to ruin their friendship. Julie Dawn Cole (who played Veruca) and Denise Nickerson (who played Violet) absolutely adored working with him as well.
* Creator/GordonRamsay on Series/MasterChef Junior. Despite how he acts on Hell's Kitchen, in real life, he's actually a very nice and friendly mentor, and he's generally much more kind and friendly with child contestants, and even lets them stick his head in guacamole if they win a challenge. He’s also got five kids of his own.
* Despite his self-admitted reputation as a "[[GrumpyOldMan cantankerous old man]]" (his own words), Prince Philip Mountbatten, the Duke of Edinburgh (husband of Queen Elizabeth II) adored children, and sponsored over 200 children's charities and schools in Great Britain, and loved "playing footie in the garden" with his kids and the dogs when they were all younger.
* It's fairly well-known that a lot of the same convicts who have committed the most heinous of crimes are pretty fond of kids, to the point that if [[PariahPrisoner a convicted child abuser]] (or worse, child ''molester'') isn't put in solitary, [[EvenEvilHasStandards he's likely to get shanked]]... [[PayEvilUntoEvil or worse]].
** It's for this reason that both prison guards and former inmates will readily assert that child murderers and molesters are better off if they get the death penalty, which usually means being segregated away from the general prison population. When these people are placed with the prisoners, they very quickly find out that not only do all the other prisoners want to not only kill them but also make ''damn'' certain that they suffer a lot before they die...
** Two murderers had been placed in the same cell and were together for a year. The only difference was that one had murdered adults, while the other had raped and killed a little girl. When the adult murderer found out ''exactly'' what his cellmate had done, he proceeded to beat him to death.
** Similarly, communities that otherwise might come across as hostile or indifferent to the police will often step up if a child was victimized.
** According to a lawsuit filed against a Midwest prison, a man who spent years raping his young stepdaughter was himself [[PrisonRape raped multiple times by a cellmate]] specifically to make him feel like his victim.
** Two Words: Katie's Revenge. A man in Indiana was convicted of molesting and killing a girl named Katie. After his fellow inmates found out about it, they held him down and gave him a nice tattoo: the words "Katie's Revenge". Across his forehead. In huge letters.
** Similarly, it's said that women who are jailed for abusing or killing children (especially if the kids are her own) are considered [[PariahPrisoner the absolute lowest of the low]] in [[GirlsBehindBars women's prisons]]. Understandable, since [[MamaBear many of the prisoners are mothers themselves]].
* One of Creator/ChrisPratt's pastimes includes visiting children in hospitals. Before UsefulNotes/SuperBowl XLIX, he (a Seattle Seahawks fan) and Creator/ChrisEvans (a New England Patriots fan) did a bet where the loser would show up in costume as their Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse character to a Children's Hospital in the winner's city (Boston, for New England). Despite the Patriots winning, Evans and Pratt both visited hospitals in both cities.
* Creator/GalGadot seems to share the character she's most well known for playing's love for and gift with children. While filming ''Film/WonderWoman1984'', she visited a children's hospital in her costume to spend time with kids. She took time at San Diego Comic-Con in 2017 [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pr-XZiaEDuY to comfort a little girl who was crying because she was so excited to meet her hero]].
* Creator/JimmySavile liked to portray himself this way, having created a reality show ''Jim'll Fix It'' that was about him using his wealth and connections to make people's wishes come true, mostly children. In interviews, however, he always admitted that he never actually liked children all that much. A year after his death, it was discovered that he was actually using his show to get close to children to molest them.
* Surprising to some, but [[Music/GunsNRoses Axl Rose]]. Likely due to his crappy childhood, he tends to go out of his way to treat kids well, even hosting Halloween parties at his home (even if he couldn't resist the urge to troll them by making them think that people are supposed to set up Halloween trees and get presents). A concert in 2017 showed that he won't hesitate to scream at security for being too rough with a child, even if he has mellowed out in his age.
* Supposedly, Rex Garrod, the Suffolk inventor who designed the car from ''Series/{{Brum}}'' and participated in ''Series/RobotWars'' with the robot Cassius. While competing as the captain of Team Cassius, Rex was known as a [[LetsFightLikeGentlemen gentlemanly competitor]] who would take on the house robots to stop them from damaging the competitor's robot if a child was on the opposing team - he wanted to encourage children to get into engineering and didn't want them to be demoralized by their creations being wrecked. Rex sadly passed away in April 2019 after a long battle with Alzheimer's, aged 75.
* [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicholas_Winton Sir Nicholas Winton]]. He saved ''669 children'' from the Holocaust. Is there anything to add?
* Creator/TomHolland frequently visits children's hospitals in costume as Spider-Man and will often times do tricks and flips for them.
* The late Israeli singer Creator/{{Ofra Haza}} had always been fond of children and had truly wanted to become a mother. She even recorded an album called ''Songs for Children''. Seven years after her death, part of the public park in the Hatikvah Quarter (where Haza grew up) in Tel Aviv became known as "Gan Ofra", or "Ofra's Park", and it even has a playground to honour her love for children and her connection to her old home.
* Hồ Chí Minh built up an image of this. Several of his famous photographs are of him being affectionate towards and/or surrounded by children, feeding them, celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival/Children's Holiday with them, etc. Allegedly this is because (in his words) he had neither family nor children, and considered the Vietnamese people his family. He wrote poems about children and their education, as well as letters (which includes the creed of the Young Pioneer Organization), and mentioned the importance of their education and happiness throughout his career and in his will.
* Outsider artist Henry Darger's obsession with protecting children from grievous harm lead to him receiving the title of "Protector of Children" on his tombstone.
* The [[UsefulNotes/TheBritishRoyalFamily late Princess Diana]]. Before she married Prince Charles, she worked as a nanny. Even after her marriage, she was shown to love and be loved by children, her own especially. Her compassion showed during her visits to various countries torn apart by war, granting her the well-deserved title of "The People's Princess". Her son Prince Harry displays this trope as well, often doing the same kind of work she did.

She was shown to have a warm smile whenever children give her many gifts such as flower bouquets and artwork, and even helped a young girl place an ornament on an outdoor Christmas tree in December 2018.
* Creator/PedroPascal, who often plays fathers in movies and TV shows, wins over child actors with his good humor and kindness. He doesn't have any children of his own, but instead dotes over his nephews (the eldest of whom is also his godson) and cares for his friends' kids. He demonstrates his love of children more seriously when supporting multiple causes to help marginalized youth.
* Many different breeds of dogs and cats have a reputation for being friendly and patient with human children; prime examples include the Golden Retriever, the Beagle, the Pug, the Maine Coon, the Birman, and the Manx.
* Milton S. Hershey, quite fittingly for a chocolatier. Since he and his wife couldn't conceive, they dedicated themselves to helping orphans, and Hershey founded the Milton Hershey School, a boarding school originally meant for orphans (it now serves low-income children, regardless of familial status), and which still operates to this day. He eventually transferred all of his assets, including control of the company, to a trust fund set up for the school, and the trust owns the Hershey Entertainment and Resorts Company, including the hotel and the amusement park.
* While waiting for a flight out of Nice in the 1980s, Creator/RogerMoore was approached by a young fan who asked for his autograph. He happily obliged, but the fan was disappointed when he found he signed his plane ticket as "Roger Moore" and not "James Bond." Realizing his mistake, Moore gently took the fan aside and explained to him that "Roger Moore" was his alias, as his enemies might know where he was, and he made the boy promise not to tell anyone he had just met James Bond. [[BrickJoke Twenty years later]], they met again on the set of a UNICEF commercial, and Moore, fully remembering their encounter at the airport, once again hinted that he was really James Bond using the name "Roger Moore" as his cover.

* Creator/DamonRunyon's characters are criminals, or at least on the shady side, but they have a soft spot for children. In "Literature/LittleMissMarker", they do their best to care for a little girl left in their hands, [[spoiler:to the length of kidnapping a famous doctor at gunpoint to tend to her when [[IllGirl she's down with a deadly disease]].]] In "Gentlemen, the King!" three New York hardboys [[spoiler:who have been recruited to kill a European king not only abort the mission instantly when they find that the King in question is a child but spend time making friends with him...and end up killing the man who hired them.]]

* [[NonIronicClown Ronald McDonald]] of UsefulNotes/McDonalds fame, naturally, not only in the fantasy world of the commercials he appears in, but in spirit in RealLife, via Ronald [=McDonald=] House, the charity named after him, which provides accommodation for the parents of seriously ill children so they can stay near them at the hospital.

** In the ''[[ComicBook/BatmanNoMansLand No Man's Land]]'' novel, he tells Gordon that he won't interfere if [[spoiler:he kills Joker, Joker having just shot Sarah, Gordon's wife. However, he also just kidnapped and violently endangered 30-something babies.]] In that same arc, ComicBook/PoisonIvy also fulfills this trope. She takes over the Gotham City Park, but winds up [[PetTheDog making it a refuge for all the children orphaned in the earthquake]]. When the police try to force her out, and are willing to destroy the whole place if they have to in order to defeat her monstrous plants she [[spoiler:[[Heartwarming/BatmanNoMansLand eventually turns herself in without a fight so that one of the children can get urgently needed medical attention]].]]
** Batman practically runs an orphanage with the way he keeps taking on kids under his [[{{Pun}} wing.]] The list includes: [[BigBrotherMentor Dick/Robin/Nightwing]], [[HandicappedBadass Barbara/Batgirl/Oracle]], [[MiddleChildSyndrome Jason/Robin II/Red Hood]], [[BadassBookworm Tim/Robin III/Red Robin]], [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Damian/Robin V]], [[TechnicalPacifist Cassandra/Batgirl II/Orphan II]], and [[PluckyGirl Stephanie/Spoiler/Robin IV/Batgirl III]]. Even in the world of ''The Dark Knight Returns'', where [[FromBadToWorse it got worse]] with Dick, Batman still has Carrie Kelly as Robin "DKR". Cynics might point out that all of the aforementioned kids Batman takes in become Robin or/and Batgirl at some point, but Batman has fostered kids temporarily and returned them to normal life. Possibly the best known example of this is in the "You Should've Seen Him" story (Batman #423). Batman finds a brother and sister orphan pair dumpster diving to survive, and works as Bruce to reunite them with a surviving relative. In most cases, the kids ''insist'' on joining Batman's crimefighting crusade over his protests. He provides them training, support, and equipment to maximize their chances of survival.

** Subverted for most of ''ComicBook/AllStarBatmanAndRobinTheBoyWonder'', in which he abducts the orphaned Dick Grayson and places the already-traumatized boy through a TrainingFromHell regimen that includes, among other things, being forced to hunt and eats rats in the Batcave.
* Like her cousin Bruce, Kate Kane also loves kids. She's rescued groups of them on different occasions as ComicBook/{{Batwoman}}, and they always willingly follow her, so they clearly don't find her scary. She's even been attacked by brainwashed children a few times, and has never fought back when it happened, instead electing to evade them.

* Franchise/SpiderMan has to [[HeroWithBadPublicity deal with a lot of crap from adults]], but not kids. Kids ''love'' their Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. One [[SugarWiki/{{Heartwarming|Moments}} ChristmasSpecial has Spider-Man makes his regular visit to the sick children ward in hospital to the utter jubilation of the kids.]] Unfortunately, J. Jonah Jameson is also there and angrily tells Spider-Man to buzz off, however every single boy and girl, as well the nurse, vetoes this demanding that "Spidey" can stay and the kids even [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech rip into]] Jameson, pointing out all the times Spider-Man has selflessly saved and cared for them. At the end of issue, armed criminals burst into hospital and threaten the children, [[PapaWolf triggering]] an UnstoppableRage from Spidey.

** In the same comic there’s the [[SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments famous moment]] where Superman despite being busy with other matters, goes out of his way to prevent a Regan teenage girl committing suicide on a rooftop. [[AllLovingHero Telling her she’s stronger than she’ll ever know]] before giving her a CoolDownHug while she cries into his chest.
* Spider Jerusalem from ''{{ComicBook/Transmetropolitan}}'' seems to hate children slightly less than he does the rest of humanity. At one of his more annoyed moments, he ends up accosted by a noisy (and overly cheerful) street musician and his son -- Spider performs a GroinAttack on the musician and does some rather unpleasant things to his instrument, and then tips the kid with a hundred dollars before storming off. Another time, a little girl has to pawn her teddy bear to pay for her medicine. Spider goes in the shop, buys the bear back, and gives it to her. D'aaaaaawww.

* ''ComicBook/WonderWomanTempestTossed'': Diana argues with her mother about the refugees still in the water until she realizes some of them are children. At that point she unhesitatingly disobeys the queen and in so doing forever loses her home as she leaves the barrier to rescue them. Once she's at the refugee camp she spends much of her time playing with the children, and continues to be protective of and friendly with kids in New York. She gives a nice summary of her mindset:

** When the Avengers "adopt" the infant Mara Jade and Grogu, [[spoiler:Mara is soon considered to be essentually Natasha's daughter, while Grogu is defined as "the collective Avengers baby"]].

** [[TheDreaded Doctor]] [[TimeMaster Strange]], too, while not as overtly as the other two; does tend to be considerably nicer and more honest to children than to adults, and generally drop almost all the creepy of his CreepyGood personality around them. Threatening to hurt a child reliably wakes his PapaWolf tendencies - not something you want to do with someone who considers genocide an acceptable means of keeping up his reputation as TheDreaded .

* ''Fanfic/ADiplomaticVisit'': Swift-Pad values children and care for them greatly; his EstablishingCharacterMoment is when he meets Apple Bloom and is friendly and joking with her. It's later explained that this is a trait of most wolves.

* In most of [[https://www.fanfiction.net/u/1151913/ColdFusion180 ColdFusion180's]] ''WesternAnimation/XMenEvolution'' fics, Sabretooth, despite being a dangerously violent BloodKnight, is often depicted as secretly fond of children, to the point that he'll seriously main anyone he catches abusing them and heal sick ones with his [[HealingFactor regenerative blood]].

** La Muerte is fond of all beings, especially children. [[spoiler:Then, there's her scenes with the detention kids as Mary Beth]].
* WesternAnimation/{{Aladdin}}. Right after having risked his life and evaded all the royal guards in order to steal a loaf of bread, he sees a pair of starving orphans. Without a moment's hesitation, he goes over and hands them the loaf, likely the only food he was going to get that day. Then he steps in to defend them from a boorish and arrogant prince about to whip them. These moments establish that [[HiddenDepths even if he is a thief, he really is only doing it to survive and actually has a kind and brave heart.]] The TV series continues to demonstrate that both he and Jasmine have a clear soft spot for, and protective streak towards children.

* ''WesternAnimation/{{The Hunchback of Notre Dame|Disney}}'' opens with Clopin entertaining some children with the story of [[TheGrotesque Quasimodo]]'s backstory, and at the end of the film he is seen carrying a little girl as he reprises the opening song.

** Thunderhead, Edna points out, was also good with kids. He, long with a male roommate, was a foster parent for five children.

* ''WesternAnimation/{{Zootopia}}'': Judy has a soft spot for kids as she quickly falls for Nick's scam at the ice cream shop when she sees his elephant-loving "son" with dreams of becoming one (actually a disguised Finnick) that she not only buys the Jumbo Pop for Finnick, but also takes him by the hand and gives him a ZPD sticker while encouraging him to pursue his dream. This even causes her to discover that she was scammed when she sees Finnick later on her shift and excitedly goes to greet him. Much later on the film, what inspires her to take the case of Emmitt Otterton is seeing his wife pulling out a picture of their two kids.

* ''Film/TheBlueYonder'': In 1927, pilot, inventor and engineer Max Knickerbocker and his partner and fellow engineer Henry Coogan are quite friendly to Jonathan before either realize that he's actually Max's grandson from 1985. From the dialog, it's implied that Jonathan isn't the first kid to cross paths with Max and he's kind and generous.

* In ''Film/ColorMePerfect'', the mentally disabled woman Dina is very popular with kids due to her childlike personality, imagination, and storytelling skill. After gene therapy makes her a genius, she becomes much stricter and less friendly with the children. [[spoiler:Once she goes off the formula, she seems to get her old fondness for kids back, judging by her new career path as special ed teacher.]]

* ''Film/Hitman1998'': The protagonist may be an expert assassin and fighter, but he sure has a soft spot for children. During a scene in an amusement park, he befriends a boy and helps the child win a prize at a coin-toss stand thanks to his ImprobableAimingSkills. Another child approaches, so he wins a second prize for the kid as well. A few seconds later, a whole horde of children have gathered behind our hero, who then progressively strips the stall of every available toys and prizes for the kids around him, and the stall's owner is '''NOT''' amused.

* ''Film/MissMeadows'': Miss Meadows is a grade school substitute teacher who shows great affection for children generally, not just her students, and is very protective with them.

* ''Film/XMenFilmSeries'': Professor Charles Xavier shelters, educates and counsels young mutants, most of whom have been rejected by society. Creator/JamesMcAvoy encapsulates his character's benevolence in the "En Sabah Nur: Setting the Stage for Apocalypse" documentary on the ''Film/XMenApocalypse'' Blu-Ray.

* Of course there is the Grandfather of them all [[SantaClaus Kris Kringle]] from ''Film/MiracleOn34thStreet'', you can see all his attention go into a laser sharp focus whenever there's a kid trying to talk to him, even trying to dismiss any adults around. Indeed it can be said that his goal in the movie is turning other adults and even corporations into figures such as this.
* Aunt Roo from ''Film/WhoeverSlewAuntieRoo'' seems like this - she hosts a Christmas party for ten local orphans every year, and talks often about how much she loves children. Then she kidnaps Katy as a ReplacementGoldfish for her dead daughter.
* In ''Film/WildInTheStreets'', Max starts as one, and even prefers the company of three-year-olds to people his own age. By the end of the movie he's become DrunkOnPower and lords his status over the children he meets, causing one of them to vow, "[[HereWeGoAgain We're going to put everyone over ten out of business.]]"
* Owen, the manager and owner of the Water Wizz water park in ''Film/TheWayWayBack'', is a bona-fide ManChild who wanders the park in a bathrobe and playfully teases everyone around him. Even so, he is sensitive to 14-year-old Duncan's problems and teaches 10-year-old Peter to not be ashamed of his lazy eye.

* Holden Caulfield, the 17 year old protagonist from ''Literature/TheCatcherInTheRye'', loves kids and desperately wants to preserve their innocence and protect them from the world. The title of the book comes from a fantasy Holden has where he's in a rye field with thousands of children playing and he stands near the cliff at the end of the field in order to catch the kids who come too close to the cliff or are in risk of falling off.

* Creator/MercedesLackey's ''Literature/HeraldsOfValdemar'': Tarma, from the ''Literature/{{Vows and Honor}}'' series. According to Kethry, children have run up to Tarma for protection while their merc unit is storming a town... and gotten it. She is probably one of the top three non-magical badasses in the series and has a voice like a chain smoker, a face like an angry hawk, and a bond with her goddess that renders her effectively asexual. She rides a really scary looking horse, and is always accompanied by a sentient being who looks like a giant wolf. And she still has an instant rapport with children, whether for playing, protection, or nurturing. Fortunately, [[HeterosexualLifePartners Kethry]] produces plenty of kids for her to help raise during their teaching careers.

* Adrian of ''Literature/{{Renegades}}'' loves spending time with children and will always stop by to help one in need, even if the child isn't particularly keen on it (like Magpie, whom he's trying to reform from a thief into an upstanding citizen). At one point, he stops a search he's conducting when he stumbles upon a group of children at a birthday party, and ends up [[ArtInitiatesLife drawing]] them all gifts.

Later on after he gets cured, Mat saves Olver from getting beaten and tries to hire a local innkeeper to take care of him. Mat ends up all but adopting Olver after he follows him.

* In ''Literature/TheWitchlands'', scary ImplacableMan Aeduan turns out to be surprisingly great with kids, and is the only person the WildChild Owl will listen to.

* A significant part of Music/{{Eminem}}'s persona is his love of children, due to experiencing child abuse growing up (which is usually made in his music into a HilariouslyAbusiveChildhood). He's a PapaWolf to his own children, often expresses protectiveness towards child fans in his songs (such as telling them not to fight in the War On Terrror in "Square Dance"), and intends for his Slim Shady character to be [[EscapistCharacter escapism]] for kids going through what he went through. Note that his work ''strongly'' averts ChildrenAreInnocent, instead arguing that kids are just as exposed to all of the horrors of the world as adults, and should have the power to use VulgarHumor, swear and fight back against bullies and abusive adults.

Local teenagers spend most of their free time hanging out at his place, getting drunk, doing drugs, and generally having fun; he regales them with mad stories of his former exploits and supposed encounters with real-life giants. This is portrayed as being a sort of tradition, with several characters in their late twenties and early thirties discussing how they used to be the kids who hung out at Johnny's place. Subverted in two ways, though: firstly in that Johnny's sheltering of the kids is not always seen as wholesome (naturally); and secondly in that [[spoiler:it is revealed the kids don't really care about him as a person, and mock him behind his back for being a crazy loner unable to pay taxes]].

* In ''WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}'', Volume 7 and 8 implies Jaune is that. He's chosen to take care of kids in their morning school course and, in turn, they look to respect him. This becomes useful later in evacuation situations, where the kids are the first to take his orders seriously.

** The reason she is so unhinged in the first place is because she [[MyGreatestFailure failed]] to save [[spoiler:Agatha's brother when Castle Heterodyne was attacked]].

* In ''Webcomic/{{Pacificators}}'', we have [[NewMeat Daryl]] [[LightEmUp Smithson]] and [[ProperLady Muneca]] [[GravityMaster Powell]]. The latter one, despite being an IceQueen, really does care a lot about children, so much that she turns into a MamaBear if you ''ever'' threat a child (it doesn't matter whether the said child is bratty or evil).

* ''Webcomic/{{Unsounded}}'': Duane is protective of children and tries to keep them happy when they're around him. In his living days he was extremely protective of his squad of ChildMage soldiers, and was a devoted dad. He is even kind to two-toe children when most people see two-toes and less than human pests.

** The [[SnakePeople naga]] Fiona loves children, and is often seen venturing to jungle villages to play with the local kids. In fact, she's earned the in-universe nickname of "The Kind Naga". Felaryan nagas are typically man-eaters.

* [[http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-1810 SCP-1810]] of the ''Wiki/SCPFoundation'' loves children and will take care of any distressed or lost child it comes across. Which would be heart-warming, except its flawed understanding of humans and that the fact that it will do horrific things to non-children if it thinks it will make a child happy renders it creepy.

** One of the hints that Zuko is a good guy pre-HeelFaceTurn is that he's good with kids. This follows him post-redemption arc and into his reign as Fire Lord, especially once he finds out that he's got a much younger half-sister to whom he's an excellent brother. He's also implied to be an outstanding father and grandfather in the ''The Legend of Korra'' (see below).

* Turanga Leela from ''WesternAnimation/{{Futurama}}''. While she's tough and no nonsense she has a soft spot for children, particularly orphans since she was one herself. When she begins making money from a children's show she created, she uses most of the money to buy books and toys for a group of orphans and wants the show to be a reminder to them that they can achieve their dreams too.

** The Flash, being FunPersonified, loves kids a lot himself. He spends every Christmas hanging out with kids at an orphanage at his home town and giving them toys, and often steps out of fights to protect kids from collateral damage made when fighting bad guys.
* ''WesternAnimation/KingOfTheHill'': Hank Hill is shown to be really good with kids in several episodes, including one where he becomes the substitute shop teacher at his son's school and is very popular with the kids because his teaching style is informal, educational, and fun. In another he stops some kids from getting into a makeout party by using old-school party games, and they end up legitimately having fun, causing the neighbors' wives to remark that his reliability and skill with kids are very attractive traits. Naturally, the only kids he seems to have trouble getting along with are Bobby, and Caleb from "Hank's Bully" who keeps taunting Hank while the lenient parents stand idly by saying that Caleb is just expressing himself, until Hank gets fed up and has Bobby start annoying Caleb's parents who ultimately lose it and start getting tough with their son.

* Miss Grotke from ''WesternAnimation/{{Recess}}'':

** And the movie reveals that, believe it or not, Principal Prickly was one back in the 1960's when he first got into teaching. He even wanted to hold his classes outside on the playground and was horrified when he learned that [[ChildHater Phillium Benedict]] wanted to get rid of recess.

* ''WesternAnimation/StarWarsTheCloneWars'': Ahsoka Tano, right from her introduction in the PilotMovie was shown to be quite good with children. She started with calling Jabba's son Rotta, an infant ''Hutt'' cute and showing genuine care for him. This trait of hers culminated during the Young Jedi arc, where she repeatedly put her life in risk to protect the six Jedi younglings under her care.

* Max on ''WesternAnimation/TotalDrama'' is an [[EvilIsHammy EVIL mastermind]] who wants to TakeOverTheWorld! In his audition tape, however, he says he's busy with babysitting. And when there comes a challenge on the show where the contestants have to carry napping babies through sound sensitive areas, Max is surprisingly good at calming his baby down. It is consistently giggling in Max's presence, too.

* WWII Soviet soldier example: the German army pushed the Soviet defenders back to the river in Stalingrad; in a furious battle, the Soviets surrounded the city, cut off the Germans from their supply lines, and started to annihilate them room-by-room and building-by-building. Some children who were kept as servants by the German army were trapped in such a building, and called out in fear. The Soviet soldiers who found them immediately formed a defense perimeter and escorted them to safety. Some of the children were adopted into the unit because they were orphans. Years later, one child related:

* Similar to Jackson, Creator/LewisCarroll was very well known for spending any time he wasn't busy writing (and occasionally time he was) playing with the local children in his garden. And like Jackson, this has given rise to the rumor that his interest in them was more of a pedophilic nature as opposed to a friendly one, especially due to his collecting of naked photos of them once they were finished playing. However, it has been mostly agreed upon that it was more just part of the era of the 1800s that children often played with few to no clothes on, as few could afford play clothes and dirtying their dress clothes would ruin them. It is also reported that Carroll always asked the respective child's parents' consent before photographing them.

* Creator/AngelinaJolie. She's criss-crossed the globe on behalf of UNICEF and UNHCR, often in the company of her then-significant other Creator/BradPitt, and regularly takes time out from her movie shoots to work on some project involving children or refugees (or refugee children). She often keeps her work low-key so as not to have her celebrity status distract from the matter at hand; for instance, at the time of this writing, she and Pitt visited Bosnia to look into the issue of civilians who haven't been able to return home even 15 years after the war's end, but are making no public appearances.

** Interestingly, he started his career as a 50's-60's pop singer, gearing towards a slightly more adult audience; after his first couple of decades on ''Sesame Street'', however, he found some success recording albums of kids' songs.
* Children's author and illustrator Creator/TomieDePaola was always very good with children, whether in his interactions with young fans, or in his own family. (The latter is chronicled in his book, ''The Baby Sister'', in which [[WriteWhatYouKnow he recounted the start of his relationship with his little sister, Maureen]].) More's the pity, then, that he never had any kids of his own (though for what it's worth, he did have a slew of nieces and nephews).

* Music/JohnDenver had a big soft spot for kids. He adopted two (Zachary and Anna Kate) during his first marriage, and fathered one of his one (Jessie Bell) in his second. Subsequently, a good deal of his social activism work was dedicated to causes for children's welfare.
* Creator/JohnWaters has talked about teaching a 1st grade class where they do improvs of airplane crashes and Music/JustinBieber vampire movies. In his own words, "I'm good with kids. [[SelfDeprecation Even though I look like a child molester.]]"

* Yet another WWII example: in the last year of the war, Soviet planes bombed facilities in the German countryside in support of military operations. During one such run it happened that two Wehrmacht soldiers went to their home village and on the way found several children playing in the woods. When they noticed the planes approaching, rather than leave them alone they gathered them and attempted to flee, which then turned out futile. So they simply [[HeroicSacrifice shielded the children with their own bodies]]. The two soldiers died but the children (fortunately) managed to survive. The grave marking this action still exists near the ruins of Castle Falkenstein.

* Creator/GordonRamsay on Series/MasterChef Junior. Despite how he acts on Hell's Kitchen, in real life, he's actually a very nice and friendly mentor, and he's generally much more kind and friendly with child-contestants, and even lets them stick his head in guacamole if they win a challenge. He’s also got five kids of his own.

** It's for this reason that both prison guards and former inmates will readily assert that child murderers and molesters are better off if they get the death penalty, which usually means being segregated away from the general prison population. When these people are placed in with the prisoners, they very quickly find out that not only do all the other prisoners want to not only kill them, but also make ''damn'' certain that they suffer a lot before they die...
** Two murderers had been placed in the same cell, and were together for a year. The only difference was that one had murdered adults, while the other had raped and killed a little girl. When the adult-murderer found out ''exactly'' what his cellmate had done, he proceeded to beat him to death.

* Creator/GalGadot seems to share the character she's most well known for playing's love for and gift with children. While filming ''Film/WonderWoman1984'', she visited a children's hospital in her costume to spend time with kids. * Creator/JimmySavile liked to portray himself this way, having created a reality show ''Jim'll Fix It'' that was about him using his wealth and connections to make peoples wishes come true, mostly children. In interviews however, he always admitted that he never actually did like children all that much. A year after his death, it was discovered that he was actually using his show to get close to children to molest them.
* Surprising to some, but [[Music/GunsNRoses Axl Rose]]. Likely due to his crappy childhood, he tends to go out of his way to treat kids well, even hosting Halloween parties at his home (even if he couldn't resist the urge to troll them by making them think that people are supposed to set up Halloween trees and get presents). A concert in 2017 showed that he won't hesitate to scream at security being too rough with a child, even if he has mellowed out in his age.
* Supposedly, Rex Garrod, the Suffolk inventor who designed the car from ''Series/{{Brum}}'' and participated in ''Series/RobotWars'' with the robot Cassius. While competing as the captain of Team Cassius, Rex was known as a [[LetsFightLikeGentlemen gentlemanly competitor]] who would take on the house robots to stop them damaging the competitor's robot if a child was on the opposing team - he wanted to encourage children to get into engineering and didn't want them to be demoralized by their creations being wrecked. Rex sadly passed away in April 2019 after a long battle with Alzheimer's, aged 75.

* The late Princess Diana. Before she married Prince Charles, she worked as a nanny. Even after her marriage, she was shown to love and be loved by children, her own especially. Her compassion showed during her visits to various countries torn apart by war, granting her the well deserved title of " The Peoples' Princess ".

Gods help you if you're dumb enough to harm a child in the presence of someone with this character trait. [[BerserkButton They will not]] [[PapaWolf forgive you]], [[MamaBear ever]]. (Though, this trope is a trait of many deities, so you may not get that help.)

* Linkara of ''WebVideo/AtopTheFourthWall'' always welcomes the idea of children and families being portrayed positively in comic books, and one of his BIGGEST {{Berserk Button}}s is a child character being killed or otherwise endangered solely for the sake of shock value or plot contrivance.

** Fluttershy is this as part of her being a FriendToAllLivingThings. In fact, threatening young ponies is a good way to press her BerserkButton, as the unlucky cockatrice from "Stare Master" [[DeathGlare found out]].

* It's fairly well-known that a lot of the same convicts who have committed the most heinous of crimes are pretty fond of kids, to the point that if a convicted child abuser (or worse, child ''molester'') isn't put in solitary, [[EvenEvilHasStandards he's likely to get shanked]]... [[PayEvilUntoEvil or worse]].

* ComicBook/JohnnyTheHomicidalManiac makes a point of [[WouldntHurtAChild not murdering kids]], and has "Little Chubby Babies" listed under things he likes (in the Directors Cut). If someone tries to harm a child in his presence he gets [[PapaWolf angry]]. [[KnifeNut With knives.]] That said, kids tend to be terrified of him. [[AxCrazy This is not unjustified.]]

* Creator/AngelinaJolie. Over the past decade, she's criss-crossed the globe on behalf of UNICEF and UNHCR, often in the company of her then-significant other Creator/BradPitt, and regularly takes time out from her movie shoots to work on some project involving children or refugees (or refugee children). She often keeps her work low-key so as not to have her celebrity status distract from the matter at hand; for instance, at the time of this writing, she and Pitt visited Bosnia to look into the issue of civilians who haven't been able to return home even 15 years after the war's end, but are making no public appearances.

** ComicBook/JonathanHickmansXMen revealed [[KnightTemplar Exodus]] to be one of these in a bit of CharacterDevelopment that made a lot of his actions in earlier stories (rescuing Luna Maximoff in ''ComicBook/BloodTiesMarvelComics''[[note]]before succumbing to WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity and trying to kill her[[/note]], attempting to abduct the infant ComicBook/HopeSummers in ''Messiah Complex'', attempting to convert a ComicBook/{{SHIELD}} helicarrier into an "ark" for newborn mutants right before that) make a lot more sense. As a seat holder on Krakoa's governing Quiet Council, he seems to hold a role roughly analogous to Minister of Education for the island's younger mutants.

** Groot, from ''Film/GuardiansOfTheGalaxy'': while on [[WretchedHive Knowhere]], when a group of impoverished kids approach the heroes in the hopes of getting a little money, Groot offers one little girl a blue flower that he grew on his body. The little girl's face practically lights up like a Christmas tree.

* As mentioned above, ''WesternAnimation/YoungJustice'' has Batman being more of [[TeamDad a fatherly figure]] to Robin and the rest of the team than Superman. He's also been implied to be close to Captain Marvel, being the only Leaguer to know that he was ten years old. The tie-in comics show Batman giving him an opening to confess his secret, and while he isn't always patient with Billy, he'll explain things to him and didn't glare when Cap hugged him.
