** The book frames a particularly unsavoury stipulation in Wrestling/WorldChampionshipWrestling's contracts as this. Namely, if a wrestler couldn't return to duty within 90 days of an injury, their pay could be cut in half and they ran the risk of being fired, as Wrestling/DaveyBoySmith was while hospitalised for six months due to a spinal injury. As the authors note, this kind of clause is almost unheard of in professional sports due to the pressure it puts on the injured to return to work before they were fully healed and helps explain WCW's reputation for rampant pain pill addiction.
** The authors also note examples of unpleasant behaviour by management, ranging from greenlighting a skit portraying Wrestling/ArnAnderson as a layabout drunkard despite knowing about his bad personal history with alcoholism, to offering the otherwise [[PutOnABus near-shelved]] Wrestling/BretHart a chance to appear on TV... as long as he was willing to perform dangerous stunts like driving vehicles out on iced-up ground or taking bumps onto concrete, and this ''after'' Wrestling/OwenHart's tragic death.
