** Ranma himself tries to be a homewrecker during the Ten Year Sauce story. Long story short, due to a series of mishaps and miscommunications, Ukyo believes Ranma is genuinely set on living up to a ChildhoodMarriagePromise, and so she moves into the Tendo Dojo, causing absolute hell as [[{{Tsundere}} Akane's]] jealousy goes through the roof. So Ranma tries to drive off Ukyo by acting like an absolutely terrible husband figure, only for each attempt to backfire. FlippingTheTable and calling her a bad cook? She doesn't even bat an eye, the Tendos save the food, and Soun beats him up for nearly spilling it. Coming home pretending to be drunk? She casually splashes him with cold water to sober him up. Putting lipstick kisses on his shirt collar? She catches him at it. She doesn't even bat an eye when he goes to Akane's room whilst declaring he's going to see his mistress. Of course, it doesn't help Ranma that Ukyo came to the conclusion earlier that Akane was forcing Ranma to try and break up with Ukyo...

SubTrope of AbhorrentAdmirer. See also SeductionProofMarriage when the target of the affections refuses this character's advances. Often overlaps with StalkerWithACrush, MadLove, EntitledToHaveYou, and {{Yandere}}. Overlaps with PsychoEx if the admirer used to date the target of their affections or WeddingSmashers if the admirer tries to steal their crush during the wedding. May involve a BetterPartnerAssertion if the admirer tries to convince their crush that they would be a better partner. Compare AndNowYouMustMarryMe, which this trope might overlap with if the villain is trying to marry someone who is already in a relationship. Compare/contrast SerialHomewrecker, which this character might also be if they have successfully stolen other's partners before. Contrast {{Cuckold}} if they succeed, IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy, where a character accepts that their crush is happy with someone else, TheMistress, RemarriedToTheMistress, and SympatheticAdulterer.

* ''Literature/EarthsChildren'': While open relationships are considered normal in Zelandonii culture, Marona clearly has malicious intentions when she seduces Jondalar in ''The Land of Painted Caves'', as it's well-known that Marona is bitter that Jondalar chose to mate Ayla over her and bears Ayla ill-will for this. Marona specifically waits until Ayla is preoccupied and often away from home to move in on Jondalar, taking advantage of his increasing loneliness and frustration. When Ayla catches them together, Marona gleefully rubs it in her face and appears to believe Jondalar will leave Ayla for her (or at least favour her from now on). She underestimates how much Jondalar loves Ayla, as he instantly realises what a stupid mistake he made and what Marona's true intentions were. He admits he was only interested in sex with Marona and doesn't feel anything deeper for her, so he's hardly going to ditch his wife and mother of his child for her.

Most people know better than to go after someone who's already taken; not only is it wrong, it can also lead to a lot of easily avoidable drama. Unfortunately, some people have no issue aggressively pursuing someone who's already taken, even if said taken person has made it clear that they aren't interested in having an affair or leaving their current partner. For the pursuer, the target of their affections will be theirs and they won't let a minor detail like "being spoken for" stop them.

The reasons for going after a taken person may vary; the pursuer could be an [[PsychoEx ex who refuses to let go of their past relationship]]. They might be a GoldDigger and/or a shallow person who has no problem stealing a rich and/or good-looking partner from someone else. Maybe they see their crush as their soulmate, with said crush's current partner being seen as a thief who "stole" what "rightfully" belongs to them. Alternatively, they aren't really interested in the person they're pursuing, they are more interested in hurting and/or [[SeductionAsOneupmanship one-upping the person who they're attempting to steal from]].

These characters' schemes to steal their target vary, but some of the more common ones include:

# Trying to seduce their target via sex appeal, money, status or some other superficial quality.
# {{Blackmail}}ing the crush or the rival into breaking up.
# [[MaliciousSlander Spreading lies about the rival or the crush]] to engineer a break up.
# [[BetterPartnerAssertion Trying to put down the rival]] in order to convince the crush to date the admirer instead.
# [[MurderTheHypotenuse Offing the rival]] so the crush will be up for grabs.
# If a female is harassing a male, they could try and lie about being pregnant in order to [[TheBabyTrap baby trap him]]. Alternatively, if the woman really is pregnant, she might claim that the baby is actually the man's.

Regardless of what method the admirer uses, [[FailureIsTheOnlyOption their schemes will almost always fail]]. If the admirer uses seduction, [[SeductionProofMarriage the crush's love for their partner will prove to be stronger than base desire]]. If they attempt to use lies, the [[PowerOfTrust the trust between the two lovers]] will prove too strong for them to believe any baseless lies about the other. If they try blackmail, one or both parties will either take revenge or simply refuse to allow the admirer's threats to sway them. Expect the crush to declare that not only are they happy with their current lover, but that they also wouldn't date the admirer even if they were single.

Needless to say, these types of characters are unlikely to be portrayed in a sympathetic or likeable manner. While sometimes portrayed humorously, the humor comes more from the absurd lengths they'll go to to get their target and whatever {{karma}} they receive.

Contrast IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy, where a character accepts that their crush is happy with someone else, TheMistress, RemarriedToTheMistress, and SympatheticAdulterer.

* ''Fanfic/ElementaryMyDearNatsuki'': A ''Anime/MyHime'' fanfic that puts Shizuru in the role of "consulting detective" in Victorian England, with Natsuki serving the Watsonian role, Tomoe Marguerite takes an interest in Shizuru when [[spoiler:she witnesses Shizuru slaughter the heads of the Obsidian Order to protect Natsuki from them.]] To try and bring Shizuru closer to her, Tomoe frames Natsuki for murder, though she also makes sure that if Shizuru can unravel the clues and free Natsuki from the hangman's rope, they will all implicate her associate, Miya Clochette. When Natsuki and Shizuru confront Tomoe, Natsuki points out that they already have the evidence that will free her, and Tomoe might as well confess to the crimes. Tomoe attempts to appeal to Shizuru [[spoiler: by pointing out that if she is captured and confesses, she will have to explain Shizuru's role in the deaths of several people, saying Natsuki would thus have Shizuru's neck in the noose when Tomoe testified]].
