Mabel also takes advantage of the fact that Dipper [[SleepDeprivation hasn't been sleeping much recently]], essentially tiring Bipper out until his body shuts down, forcing Bill out.

* EstablishingSeriesMoment: That whole opening scene where Dipper and Mabel are being chased by a horrific abomination and are making their escape on a golf cart is a good intro, but the ''real'' moment comes when it's revealed that "Norman" isn't a vampire as Mabel hoped, or a zombie, like Dipper, suspected, but a bunch of ''gnomes''.

It makes it clear that ''anything'' can happen in this series, and whenever you think you've guessed what's going to happen, it's actually going to be ''weirder.''

* AbsurdBrandName: When Grunkle Stan recounts his backstory he describes some of the corner cutting business ventures he tried before devolving into full blown conman. One of them was a knockoff Shamwow, called the "Sham Total", with the tagline "it's a total sham". Surprisingly people ''did'' actually buy it, but they chased him out of town once they realized the cheap dye he used created more messes than it cleaned. After that he started selling easy to remove band-aids that he dubbed "The Ripoff", which [[SuspiciouslySpecificDenial definitely won't give you rashes.]]

* BelieverFakesEvidence: A very unusual example in Stan. When first introduced, Stan is presented as a skeptic who didn't believe in the oddities of Gravity Falls, but would put on a show as a shyster and huckster to make money off of tourists. Then comes the WhamLine where he reveals to Dipper that he's always known about the truth of Gravity Falls. He doesn't put on displays of actual supernatural phenomena because for the most part they're dangerous and he has other objectives [[spoiler:such as retrieving his brother, Ford, from the void.]]

* CloningBlues: Double Subverted in "Double Dipper." Dipper uses a supernatural copying machine to make duplicates of himself as part of an overcomplicated plan to spend time with Wendy. The first clone he creates, Tyrone, has no qualms about being a clone and even reminds Dipper that he can just dissolve him with water if things get out of hand. [[spoiler: However, Dipper abandons the plan after enjoying a natural conversation with Wendy. The clones didn't share the experience or epiphany, and so they turn on Dipper in order to keep to the plan, locking him in a closet so that one of them can dance with Wendy instead.]]

* DoubleMeaningTitle: The show is named after the town it takes place in. Its name evokes the names of numerous other cities that have the word "Falls" in them (for example, Niagara Falls, New York). However, the title itself is a bit of an oxymoron; gravity cannot fall, as it is what causes things to fall. Gravity itself falling would mean the rules of physics have been flipped around. However, the laws of reality being broken is exactly what this show (and the town) is about.

** [[StepfordSmiler Bud]] [[ForcedIntoEvil Gleeful]] is a downplayed example. While he's collaborated with Gideon on his evil schemes and can be pretty provocative towards Stan, he holds very little, if any, malice to Gravity Falls at large and finds far more pleasure just selling cars. He'll also occasionally put his foot down when [[EveryoneHasStandards Gideon's gone too far]] (not that it does him any good, considering how much of a tyrant the latter is).

* CuddleBug: Mabel and Soos both qualify. Mabel's shown giving bear hugs and tackle hugs, especially to Dipper and Stan, quite often. In "Society of the Blind Eye", when she is listing cool things about herself, she mentions that she hugs a lot. She also loves cuddling with her pet pig, Waddles. Soos hugs the twins often and attempts to initiate an unwanted group hug in "Dreamscaperers", admitting that he never knows when the time is right. Another time, when the [[spoiler: world was on the verge of ending]], he states that if he dies, he wants to die hugging. According to ''Gravity Falls: Dipper and Mabel's Guide to Mystery and Nonstop Fun!'', Soos has been known to let Mabel cuddle and fall asleep on his belly.

* BloodierAndGorier: The show becomes noticeably bloodier after its first season. While there was nothing worse than a nosebleed in the first season, by the time of the second, there's AlienBlood everywhere, characters regularly and explicitly get covered in red and bloody scratches and by the time of Weirdmaggeddon, the imagery has progressed to literal ''waterfalls'' of blood and mounted animal heads oozing thick, copious amounts of blood due to supernatural haunting. It's to the point where they use gore as comedy; BigBad Bill Cipher introduces Dipper to a "head that's always screaming!" then reduces it to nothing but one layer of skin at a time before Dipper's eyes.
