--> ''It looked like the Horcrux was momentarily having the upper hand. She knew because the moment he did, Riddle had started gloating again. That man, whether he be a monkey or a necklace or a hat, was obviously incapable of just shutting up no matter what was at stake. She didn't even try to listen to what he was saying, only catching phrases like 'absolute power', 'bow to me', and 'unlimited rice pudding is mine!'. (…Well, she might have been imagining that last one.)''

** Among the things Voldemort rants about during a bout of EvilGloating is that [[Recap/DoctorWhoS25E1RemembranceOfTheDaleks unlimited rice pudding]] is now his, though Hermione may have been imaging that particular boast.

[[ForWantOfANail What would happen]] if Hermione Granger, the original series' BadassBookworm, had been born with Parseltongue (the gift of innately knowing the Language of Snakes) and lived with it her entire life? The result is a Hermione who starts her studies of magic with a much more open mind when it comes to wizardly weirdness, a more… ''flexible'' attitude to breaking the rules, and a mission to make wizards understand that snakes are people too. [[LoadsAndLoadsOfRaces And boggarts. And goblins. And house-elves.]] [[OverlyLongGag And portraits. And gargoyles.]] Be wary, reader, for you are in for a ride that features such highlights as dragon-riding spiders, Voldemort the Silver Monkey, and lots, lots and lots of ruthless {{Rules Lawyer}}ing.

This or these examples of Surprisingly Realistic Outcome seem to violate at least one of these rules, which disqualifies them: No character reactions (characters get angry, don't forgive, don't change their personality instantly, etc.); Too fantastical (depends on the properties of magic, powers, sci-fi tech, monsters, etc.); Not surprising (a character was warned about the outcome, it's used to provide Karma or An Aesop, or it simply follows normal conventions for this genre or medium); Plot happens (the example only describes an event, but not why audiences would expect a different, unrealistic outcome); Not an outcome (a character just explains why something wouldn't work as expected, or something is just an innate aspect of the setting or character that has a logical reason for being present); More of a Deconstruction (the event has major, lasting effects on the plot, make something more realistic, but not completely realistic, or a parody/fanwork applies realistic consequences to the events of a different work); or fits better under a different trope. See the trope's definition for more details. If you believe a removal was a mistake, please bring it up in the cleanup thread.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: The story very nearly turns this into a KarmicDeath for Hermione. She's usually a RulesLawyer who has achieved such things as [[AlmightyJanitor running the country through carefully-worded letters]] and turning [[note]]one part of [[/note]]Voldemort into a silver monkey who cannot hurt anyone. But when she [[spoiler: butts heads with the protections layered by Voldemort on his Horcruxes]], and thinks she can [[spoiler: get through them]] with a few seconds' basic LoopholeAbuse… turns out she [[GoneHorriblyWrong can't]], because [[spoiler: the ol'Turban]] closed ''that'' loophole before it even was one, and it's a wonder she manages to [[spoiler: come BackFromTheDead]] afterwards.

** When explaining why he invited Hermione to a small Christmas dinner with his family, Fudge explains that he's been corresponding with her about governmental manners. He manages to frame this so that it sounds like he's just keeping in touch with the youth perspective -- given that what he's ''actually'' been doing amounts to asking Hermione for so much advice that she's practically running the government for him, she deems this sleight-of-hand one of the most Slytherin things Fudge has managed to do.

not exactly a "plot" lmao

* SmugSmiler: ''Literature/HarryPotter'' fanfictions are strangely fixated on making the Slytherins' only facial expressions ''sneering'' or ''smirking''. This [[FandomSpecificPlot fandom quirk]] is [[ParodiedTrope parodied]] here, where smirking and sneering are skills that all Slytherins are supposed to master for public relations as a matter of house pride, and students are casually noted as "master Slytherins" because they manage to communicate their moods solely through sneers and smirks.

* EveryoneHasStandards: Cornelius Fudge is a simpering little wimp of a politician... but Umbridge going on a power trip against the Sorting Hat over being mouthed off to, which quickly escalates to legal threats and actual violence, is enough to royally tick him off, and he gives her a thorough chewing-out for making the Ministry look foolish.

removing: inappropriate use of YMMV/Trivia/Moments on a main page, inappropriate comparisons to other works on a main page, misuse of Mind Screw as a "isn't that a little weird lmao" pothole, the Shaped Like Itself example not really being an example or a subversion; OC Stand In characters should only be listed under OC Stand In, not also Original Character, and also dewicking Original Characters so we can eventually delete that simple plural redirect that's against the redirect policy. we might put some of this back in some more well-formed form later
