He came to prominence during the 1980s as one of the Simon brothers on ''Series/SimonAndSimon'', and as the star of beloved sitcom Series/MajorDad, but since then he's enjoyed various leading roles in film and television, often playing scheming villains such as in ''Series/{{Deadwood}}'', ''Series/BoardwalkEmpire'' and ''Series/HouseOfCardsUS''.
