* BewareTheSillyOnes: Of all the Alliance species the Gnomes are both the smallest and the most excentric ones, making it easy to underestimate them, but when they are pushed too far they prove to be suprisingly dangerous and tenacious foes thanks to their agility, ingeniuty, intelligence and unpredictability. The best example of it may their defense of Gnomeregan during the Second War where they managed to kill many orcs with booby traps and created an impregnetable gate that successfully repelled the Old Horde's assaults. Most of the advanced technological devices and most powerful weapons of the Alliance are of Gnomish origin.

* {{Foil}}: To the Goblins who are their rivals and Horde counterparts. Both races are physically short and excentric but extremely intelligent and technologically advanced races with an excentric attitude that give a significant technological boost to their respective factions. However while Goblins' intelligence come from exposition to kajimite Gnomes are naturally intelligent as a result of them being descended from Mechagnomes. Also while the Goblins are extremely greedy, ressent hierarchy and mainly use technology as a way to get rich Gnomes view technology as a way of life, respect hierarchy and as such are very organized, and are happy to use their inventions to help the other races of the Alliance without getting huge profits from it. Their engineering methods and views are also very different as Gnomes are generally very careful and orderly when they work on a new project, often spending more time working on the calculations and schematics than on the product itself which can make their engineering rather slow and costly but also more reliable and secured, whereas Goblins are often more ambitious and willing to take risks with their projects but tend to neglect security and maintenance causing their devices to be often dangerous to use and to explode. Also interestingly gnomish airships are heavier-than-air machines whereas Goblins mostly produce zepellins and other lighter-than-air gunships.

* SeriousBusiness: The Gnomes may be very excentric and quirky but when it they conceive and build their technological projets they do not neglect any detail and make as much planning and calculation as possible to make sure that there is no flaw in their project, and if it fails they will spend lots of time to find the reasons of its failure and correct them. As a result their inventions are generally of better quality and much safer than Goblins' which often explode. Fittingly the only known Gnome to averts this is none other than Sicco Thermpalugg.

* TookALevelInBadass: The attempted retaking of Gnomeregan had him stepping up to the plate and shaping up to be a good leader after all. Taken UpToEleven during Legion and Battle for Azeroth, where he personally enters the fray in a massive mechasuit during the Battle for the Broken Shore and the Siege of Lordaeron, managing to hold his own quite well alongside heavyweights such as Greymane, Varian, and Alleria.

Elaborated as being a partial case of GoodCannotComprehendEvil in his leader short story - Unlike most of Azeroth's denizens, the Gnomes had practically no history of fighting among themselves, so the possibility of a traitor in their own ranks simply didn't cross his mind untill it was too late...

* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Gnomes can have quite an unusual range of hair color, including green, blue and pink.

* BaldOfAwesome: He's bald on top of his head, though some of his artwork portrays him with hair in the back.

* EvilFormerFriend: He is one to Mekkatorque who has known for a very long time, having helped Sicco to graduate and to get the various positions he had in his life. It was this friendship that caused Gelbin to continue giving positions to Sicco despite his more and more defective work and prevented him from seeing his true colors.

* IgnoredEpiphany: In "Cut Short" he traps and confronts Mekkatorque with the intention to kill him. After a MotiveRant Gelbin calmly explains to him that he has always been grateful to him for his work but that despite his creative genius his lack of caution and rush of his work forced to have to correct Thermaplugg's work as it would have backfired hard without it. When a disbelieving Thermaplugg calls him a liar and asks him why he did let him take credit for the canons to the dwarves then Gelbin simply replies that it was because he was his friend. The response actually causes Thermaplugg's face to soften and to pauses for a few moments with Mekkatorque recognising in his face the gnome that he befriended a long time ago. The moment is short-lived as Sicco's insanity quickly catch-up with him.

An old friend to Gelbin Mekkatorque, Sicco Thermaplugg was once a [[{{Pride}} proud]] and [[AmbitionIsEvil ambitious]] gnomish engineer [[WellIntentionedExtremist who sought to make Gnomeregan a great and powerful nation]]. His greedy desire for power combined with a lust for {{revenge}} against those he felt had cheated him from his rightful place in gnomish society turned him into the greatest traitor of Gnomeregan.

* CuteMonsterGirl: "Monster" might be a stretch since Gnomes at least all look human enough, but males tend to be {{Gonk}}s with weird facial hairs, while females look like [[{{Moe}} adorable little girls]].

* TrueCompanions: With the dwarves of Ironforge who have always been their closest allies and friends to the point that the two races consider themselves to be cousins (which isn't farfechted as the two races descend from titan-forged). This close bond dates from their first meetings as the dwarves helped the gnomes to build Gnomeregan by teaching them about stoneworking and construction while the gnomes helped the dwarves with their engineering and science. As such it isn't surprising that the dwarves offered refuge the gnomes into Ironforge after the loss of Gnomeregan and are their main support into retaking their capital.

* {{Expy}}: After the Battle for Dazar'alor, a "Spark Reactor" was implanted into his chest to keep his heart beating, making him an ''ComicBook/IronMan'' expy.

* ApeShallNeverKillApe: Until Sicco Thermpalugg's betrayal the Gnomes never had any history of internal conflicts or violence, not because of any rule but because they instinctively acknowledge that in world with many hostile creatures and taller races they have to rely on each other. As such the idea that one of them could be a traitor didn't cross their mind until Thermaplugg's radiation bomb killed many of them.

* Didn'tThinkThisThrough: Sicco Thermaplugg is noted to have been one of the most creative and enthusiastic of the Gnomes tinkers, often coming with great or even genius ideas. However for all his scientific and technological knowledge he lacks patience and caution and neglects calculations and details that causes him to rush his tinker works and plans which caused Mekkatorque to spend a lot of time correcting his mistakes. During the fall of Gnomeregan he used a radioactive bomb in order to kill a portion of the Gnomes and discredit Mekkatorque but it turned out that the radioctivity was far more dangerous and lethal that he expected causing the death of 90% of Gnomeragan's population and he didn't even think of creating something to protect himself from the radiation nor of putting himself at a safe distance from it causing him to be irradiated too.
