Fighting With Chucks is no longer a trope

* FightingWithChucks: When he does use weapons, it's usually this. He even once turned a pair of factory smokestacks into one to battle the murderous Alien Kettle.

Nice Hat is now a disambig

* NiceHat: When he reappears in ''Ultraman Mebius'', he's first seen wearing a dark-coloured set of robes and a conical hat.

[[folder:Ron]]
!!Ron
[[quoteright:240:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ron_i.png]]

-->'''First Appearance''': The Sorrowful, Wandering Monster
Leo's beloved pet monster back on L77 before the planet was destroyed. While Ron survived, he unfortunately transformed into a giant murderous beast from the grief of being abandoned by his owner, eventually making his way to Earth, where Gen found himself deeply reluctant to kill his former companion.
----
* BewareMyStingerTail: Ron can shoot energy darts from his tail.
* BreathWeapon: Breathes fire.
* CameFromTheSky: Arrives on Earth in the form of a comet.
* CanineCompanion: Leo's equivalent to one, although AllThereInTheManual sources state that Ron's species were actually considered pests by most of L77's inhabitants. In fact, [[spoiler:Leo turns him into a dog at the end of the episode.]]
* EyeBeams: Can shoot lasers from his eyes.
* MagmaMan: Ron consumes lava, which was how he turned from a small animal into a gigantic monster.
* MakeMyMonsterGrow: Ron is normally only about the equivalent of a small dog in terms of comparing his size to that of Ultraman Leo, but its grief and rage, as well as a steady diet of magma, made it the size of Ultraman Leo.
* PetMonstrosity: Of Ultraman Leo before L77 was destroyed.
* PrehensileTail: Uses his tail to constrict Ultraman Leo during their fight.
* PlayingWithFire: Asides from his BreathWeapon, he can also shoot fire from his tail.
* TunnelKing: Ron is a powerful burrower, which helps him feed on lava. In fact, books on the Ultra Series state that on L77, Ron's species are roughly equivalent to moles.
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: Ron was only rampaging because he had been driven to madness by the grief over being separated from Ultraman Leo. Even Gen feels deeply sorry for Ron and refuses to battle him as he rampages.

-->'''Played by:''' Ryu Manatsu
A Ultra warrior hailing from the planet L77 (whereas all other Ultras are from M78), Ultraman Leo's homeworld was destroyed by the Alien Magma and twin kaiju called the Gilas Brothers, so he came to Earth in the guise of a human named Gen Ohtori and trained under Ultraseven, becoming a skilled martial artist more reliant on his physical capabilities than most Ultra heroes. Ultraman Leo has also reappeared in other series, and most notably, is the mentor of Ultraseven's own son Franchise/UltramanZero.
----
* AllLovingHero: Loves Earth and its people.
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: To his teammates, who are angry with him all the time.
* AnimalMotifs: Lions. His theme song has the verse "The eye of the lion is shining" and a lion's head is used to symbolize L77.
* BareFistedMonk: The Ultraman equivalent of one, as Leo relies almost entirely on unarmed melee combat as opposed to flashier beam attacks used by most other Ultra heroes.
* BigBrotherInstinct: So much that he was willing to fight the Ultra Brothers to defend Astra when the latter was accused of stealing the Ultra Key from the Land of Light (which turned out to be Alien Babalou in disguise).
* BoxingLessonsForSuperman: Already a badass martial artist, his TrainingFromHell allowed him to better defeat monsters as Ultraman Leo.
* ButNowIMustGo: He takes off sailing at the end.
* ButtMonkey: When his teammates aren't on his case, it's the Captain. Gets hurt often, too.
* CharacterAgedWithTheActor: Manatsu has played Gen until the present day.
* CreateYourOwnHero: If Alien Magma and his twin monsters hadn't attacked L-77 or Earth, Leo wouldn't have become a warrior.
* DisneyDeath:
** A family-unfriendly demise at the hands of Bunyo and Commander Black. He got better.
** A shorter one at the end of Episode 3 when a giant Alien Tsuruk attacked.
* DivingKick: His signature FinishingMove is the Leo Kick, created as a friendly nod towards ''Franchise/KamenRider''.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: When he defeats the last kaijuu, it's very satisfying.
* ElementalPunch: Variant. Leo is able to encase his karate chops in fiery energy for some truly devastating attacks that usually end with a monster get a body part lopped off.
* FightingWithChucks: When he does use weapons, it's usually this. He even once turned a pair of factory smokestacks into one to battle the murderous Alien Kettle.
* HandBlast: While Leo is better known for his usage of his own bare hands, he does get a few minor ones later on in the series.
* FriendToAllChildren: He teaches martial arts to children and spend his time off with Tooru and Kaoru.
* HornedHumanoid: One of the few Ultramen with horns.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: His arsenal includes an umbrella and a crystal ball.
* ItsPersonal: The reason he wants to fight Alien Magma and the Gillas Brothers. Also, an incentive to eliminate Commander Black.
* LastOfHisKind: He thought he was this, until Astra appeared.
* MeaningfulName: Named after the constellation of Leo, the lion, in which L77 is located in.
* MyGreatestFailure: Leo had to escape the destruction of L-77 after failing to save his brother Astra. Subverted after Astra arrived on Earth, and together they fought many aliens and monsters.
* NiceGuy: His teammates may be assholes and his captain doesn't cut him much slack, but he's nice anyway.
* NiceHat: When he reappears in ''Ultraman Mebius'', he's first seen wearing a dark-coloured set of robes and a conical hat.
* PantheraAwesome: As stated above, lions form his major motif.
* ParentalSubstitute: To Tooru and Kaoru.
* ThePhoenix: He was "reborn" from the destruction of L-77 as Gen ''Ootori''
* RedIsHeroic: He, Astra, and Ultraseven.
* RookieRedRanger: He's a newcomer both as an Ultraman (no combat experience) and as a human (the latest member of MAC).
* SpinAttack: Able to perform spinning kick attacks powerful enough to knock the heads of his opponents' bodies.
* SuperStrength: Even by the standards of the Ultramen, Leo's physical power is unmatched, thanks to years of TrainingFromHell.
* SwissArmyWeapon: The Ultra Mantle, which he carries on his left arm in the form of a bracelet. A gift from Ultraman King originally used to defeat the alien wizard Pressure.
* TrainingFromHell: Put through all sorts of it to become the skilled martial artist he is today.
* WarriorPrince: He was a prince back on his homeworld.
* YouKilledMyFather: Alien Magma killed his family on L-77.

[[folder:Astra]]
!!Astra
[[quoteright:225:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/astra.png]]

-->'''Voiced by:''' Ryu Manatsu (stock grunts), Chikara Osaka ([[Series/UltramanGinga Ultra Fight Victory]] onwards)
Ultraman Leo's younger twin brother, who was initially presumed dead after the destruction of L77, but reappears to assist Leo against the monster brothers Gallon and Litre. He returns to assist Leo many more times in the series and often appears alongside Leo in other series too.
----
* BigDamnHeroes: Saves the day in his first appearance, taking on Gallon and Litre along with Leo.
* CombinationAttack: He and Leo often perform these, with the most notable being the Ultra Double Flasher, a beam of red lightning fired with Leo standing behind a kneeling Astra.
* DarkAndTroubledPast : He barely survived the destruction of L77, and was captured and imprisoned by the Alien Magma, who tortured and enslaved him. It was only the intervention of Ultraman King that got him out of it, and only from King did he learn that his brother had survived.
* DeusExMachina: His role in ''Series/UltramanLeo''. He'd always appears suddenly during a battle to help Leo against whatever the monster was giving his older brother trouble, like Gallon and Litre, Alien Akumania, Alien Atlanta, and Hangler.
* DisneyDeath: Leo failed to save him during Alien Magma's destruction of L-77. He turns up alive on Earth to save his brother from Gallon and Litre.
* DivingKick: Has his own version of the Leo Kick called the Astra Kick.
* HandBlast: He uses beam attacks a lot more than Leo does.
* MeaningfulName: His name is Latin for "star".
* TheQuietOne: He never said anything in the entire series, only gaining his first speaking role some '''40''' years later.
* SiblingTeam: While they only occasionally worked together in the series, later ''Franchise/UltraSeries'' almost always have Astra and Leo together, like in ''[[Series/UltramanGinga Ultra Fight Victory]]'' and ''Film/MegaMonsterBattleUltraGalaxyLegends''.
* SlaveCollar: Variant. He wears one around his left leg -- the only external remnant of the time he spent as a slave of the Alien Magma.
* TwinDesynch: As a result of his time spent as a prisoner of the Alien Magma, Astra has become fairly different from Leo. Notably, Astra used to have horns, but they were sawed off by the Alien Magma.

The king of L77 and father of Leo and Astro, only appears in the non-canon ''Ultraman Story 0'' manga.
----
* AbsurdlySharpBlade: His sword rivals ''Magma {{Superweapon}}s'' in power because of its sheer cutting power.
* CanonForeigner: Never appeared in any TV series and was created for the ''Story 0'' manga.
* SuperSpeed: His reflexes alone let him dodge lasers.
