* DirtyCoward: Bonhart displays remarkable courage throughout the final two books, even willing to stand up to the Wild Hunt to claim Ciri for himself. However, that courage only comes from the fact that he's skilled enough to almost always be in control of a fight. When Ciri seriously injures him in their duel and he loses the advantage he's always held, Bonhart reveals himself to be a coward at the precipice, practically begging for his life before trying to kill Ciri when her back is turned.

* KickTheSonOfABitch: Bonhart's no saint himself, but few tears were shed when he slaughtered the Rats.

* EmpoweredBadassNormal: Before he became a mage, Vilgefortz spent much of his time as a mercenary. Once he's a mage, he's a formidable MageKnight who's capable of trouncing Geralt through martial skill alone.

Bonhart is an insanely skilled fighter that does nothing but roams from place to place, always slaying tons of people in the process, is afraid of nothing and lacks emotions in general, takes his time to find new, better gear, never shows any remorse or regrets about his victims and does all those things for no other motivation than his own amusement. Just like average [[PlayerArchetypes murderhobo]].

** UpToEleven in Ciri's case. It's safe to say that he effectively replaces Cahir as the nightmarish figure that haunts her dreams. Whereas Cahir turned out to be a decent guy who was JustFollowingOrders, Bonhart is a legitimate monster hellbent on endless bloodshed.

* FatalFlaw: SuicidalOverconfidence and pride in his skills seems to be a recurring problem of his. Namely charging at the [[TheDreaded Wild Hunt]] itself in pursuit of Ciri, despite a telepathic warning from Eredin himself in Wraith form, which would have almost certainly been his death had his horse not been spooked in time. And the other which is his downfall, trying to attack Ciri from behind after she already defeated him, after begging for mercy and receiving it.

Since he accounted for such possibility, his political plot simply turns into a bloody coup - some setbacks, but nothing he can't get away with. The breaking point turns out to be Ciri's desperate escaped through the Tor Lara's unstable portal - the resulting explosion leaves Vilgefortz without the girl and half of his face, while whatever plans he still had are derailed for good.

* GambitRoulette: His entire escape route in case of initial phase of the Thanedd plot depended on multiple characters not only acting in a specific way, but also try to backstab each and Philippa being as power-hungry as he predicted. On top of that, he also needed for the elves to arrive in timely fashion ''and'' Tissaia de Vries going full TautologicalTemplar on the absolute neutrality of magic and mages. He had ''no'' way of guaranteeing all of this coming together, making his escape plan a total gamble.

* ArtificialLimbs: After the magical explosion of the portal in Tor Lara took out one of his eyes, he replaces it with a magically-cultivated artificial one made from a gem.
