[[spoiler:The first human to set foot on Dreamland and also its first king. He believes he is the rightful king throughout, maintaining his long-comatose body off nightmares from kidnapped children for several millennia. He commands the Nightmare Realm, its creatures collectively known as Abaddon who manipulated Nicodemus on his behalf. The final arc of the story focuses on revelations about him and his re-awakening.]]

* UnwittingPawn: [[spoiler:Tricked into believing that the humans had attempted to invade]]. He felt that he was protecting Dreamland from humanity and from war with the Nightmare Realm by siding with Abbadon. [[spoiler:But in actuality, he fell right into Abbadon's hands.]]

!!Niviene AKA The Lady of the Lake

* AlwaysSaveTheGirl: As Nastajia's love interest he put her first [[spoiler:even in times of worldwide crisis. He refused to aid Nicodemus in stopping the Nightmare horde in favour of finding Nastajia and bringing her back safely to Ashendel, leading to Nicodemus revoking his abilities to enter Dreamland.]] Later, when he asks Niviene if her ability to pass objects between worlds via the magic looking glass could be used for people, she states that sending something that big through would be far too dangerous. [[spoiler:He does it anyway, pulling her through to Earth away from Abaddon and pushing himself into Dreamland, resulting in a massive magical explosion. It luckily turns out for the best since it takes out half of Abaddon's army and Alex is saved from dying by Excalibur's scabbard, but doesn't change the fact that he did it out of reckless devotion to Nastajia. He then proceeds to ask the King of Dwarves to invade the most heavily fortified part of the Nightmare Realm with no plan, little magic, a damaged ship, and a badly wounded crew.]]

* TheHero: In spades. As the comic goes on [[CharacterDevelopment he becomes more responsible and thoughtful.]]

* BadassNormal: Despite not being able to enter Dreamland he collaborates with Alex to draft up a successful battle plan for the Centaurs.

* ImaginationBasedSuperpower: Dan is trained in lucid dreaming techniques. As a result, he is able to [[spoiler:conjure a suite of armor on his first time on Dreamland, not that he really needs it.]]

* TheStrategist: Draws up army plans for the Centaurs based on information shared on their transdimensional pouch without ever having step foot onto Dreamland.

A prospective medical student in Alex and Dan's university and also their good friend.

* FantasyKitchenSink: Dreamlanders come in all shapes and sizes running across the mythological spectrum, their species including centaurs, elves, rock giants, merpeople, fairies, dwarves, etcetera.

The Princess-turned-Queen of the Elven Kingdom, Ashendel. She was one of Alex's childhood friends in Dreamland. Her parents missing for years, she has matured into a very brave, capable but cold lady.

* ConvenientlyAnOrphan: Subverted. Finding her parents is a major plot point, [[spoiler:and they are finally reunited in Chapter 21 battling Abaddon's forces]].
* DefrostingIceQueen: Warms up in after getting into a relationship with Alex.

* TheWomanWearingTheQueenlyMask: Alex notices this as her shift in attitude after being forced to ascend the throne after her parents' abrupt disappearances.

* SquashedFlat: Gets squashed swiftly by a cyclops' foot after trying to reason with him during a flashback to Alex's last childhood dream in Chapter 1.

* EvilGloating: He taunts Dwarven King Bognok that he lied to the Dwarves that they have always sided with the King of Dreamland; in actuality there were rebelling Dwarves when Nicodemus usurped the throne but they were dealt with.

* TheyCallMeMisterTibbs: Nicodemus insists on the title "King" to Oberon who vehemently disapproves along with the rest of his Kingdom of his status as King of all Dreamland.
* TreacherousAdvisor: In the past. Notable in that ''actually told his liege he would betray him,'' though only if he kept trying to bring more humans to Dreamland.

* VillainousBreakdown: Completely loses his composure when the Sword of Kings tells him to his face that [[spoiler:Arthur is long dead and Alex is his successor, as well as the fact that Alex is not a first born of his generation, finding a loophole in one of Dreamland's rules and undermining the dragon's claim to the throne.]]

* CannotSpitItOut: To Alex (to a lesser extent) but he's already involved with Nastajia.

* ConvenientlyAnOrphan: Seems to be the case as she has been a thieving street rat since she was a kid.'
