A thought process that Zhan Tiri manipulates to convince Cassandra to take the Moonstone to forge her own destiny. Rapunzel's resolve to never give up on her just makes her feel worse.
** Cassandra is ''desperate'' to earn even a sliver, a splinter, a bit of what she really craves. When the moonstone breaks and the mirror on Mother Gothel's lair is found, [[RuleofSymbolism we see a sliver that has the same form]] in both of them. It's only a fraction of the things Cassandra craves, but the sliver in the mirror shows Cassandra the truth, and the sliver of the moonstone allows Cassandra to redeem herself. Of course, Cassandra's circumstances parallel Kylo Ren more: Cassandra's fall to the Dark Side happens in part due to her insecurities and perceived abandonment by her biological parent, not to mention that her true parentage to the previous villain was kept from her. She also has complicated feelings towards Rapunzel, but ultimately arrives at the conclusion that LoveIsAWeakness and becomes obsessed with destroying every remnant of her past with her loved ones. As it turns out, her fall from grace were part of the machinations of a SatanicArchetype-evil from the past who later steals both hers and the hero's power to augment herself. Sure enough, Cassandra redeems herself and dies defeating the BigBad, but in a reversal of Kylo Ren's and Rey's positions, she's the one who dies ''first'' and then gets revived by the hero, only without the reviver dying in the process.

* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Her hair glows blue after taking on the powers of the Moonstone in the Season 2 finale.

* PsychologicalProjection: For the first two seasons, Cassandra struggles to wrap her head around the idea that other people are not as concerned with personal gain or getting to be in the spotlight as she is. A prime example is in "Challenge of the Brave", where Cassandra believes Rapunzel entered the competition to prove herself to, like Cassandra, prove herself to the kingdom when [[HundredPercentAdorationRating that isn't necessary.]] Despite Rapunzel actually joining the tournament just to spend time with her. In the third season, this trait is elaborated on:

** In "Secret of the Sundrop", Cassandra calls the Captain out for sending her to a convent because she was the one who let Rapunzel go out the castle against the King's orders, and claims to have been disappointed by her father, but later in the episode she claims she gives an apology and claims she has never been disappointed by him.

* ControlFreak: Downplayed, because as Rapunzel's lady-in-waiting, she is required to direct Rapunzel on how to act as a princess and keep her on schedule with her royal duties, a busy task that occasionally conflicts with Rapunzel's naturally free spirit.

* DidntThinkThisThrough: As Season Three goes on, it becomes clear Cassandra put no thought into what she would actually ''do'' with the Moonstone. The real brains behind her so-called "destiny" is Zhan Tiri, and Cassandra's actions are, at the heart of it, an elongated temper tantrum: The motivation to take the stone was to deny Rapunzel, and she lashes out at random by attacking her father and former friends.

** "A Tale of Two Sisters" has her getting tricked into thinking Rapunzel hid the memory that proved Gothel loved her, and so she promptly leaves Rapunzel to suffocate in a cave.

* DrivenByEnvy: After her FaceHeelTurn at the start of Season 3, Cassandra's jealousy of Rapunzel becomes one of her biggest motivations for pursuing power and status for herself at everyone else's expense, wanting everything Rapunzel has for her own.

* DudeWheresMyRespect: She strives to get people to respect her as a warrior. It's hard when most people brush her off as a mere handmaiden, and when your best friend decides to ignore your advice.

Denying her hopes of being respected sends her tumbling down. When that happens, Cassandra will bottle up how just hurt she feels and soldier on. It gets even worse when she becomes a villain. Then she stares at the destruction she's caused, and her EvilTowerOfOminousness and the truth very quickly dawns on her. The realization is undone by the episode's end.

** In "Cassandra's Revenge", after going out of her way to threaten all her friends, and bait a fight from Rapunzel, Cassandra is knocked off the top of her tower by Rapunzel - [[DownplayedTrope just managing to catch herself and survive.]] Additionally, the Moonstone she betrayed her friends to get has been left damaged from the battle.

** Cassandra shares the Captain's self-righteous sense of right and wrong. It may be her intentionally emulating her father's behaviour however, as it's her greatest dream to be like him.
** She shares her mother's [[DeadpanSnarker dry, occasionally bitter sense of humor.]]

* NeverMyFault: Cassandra's need to blame someone else for her shortcomings is borderline pathological. Look under {{Understatement}} and you will see Cassandra's ''attempts'' at self-criticism.
** This seems to be her FatalFlaw in the last season. She repeatedly blames anything she does or goes wrong on Rapunzel, refusing to accept any fault and growing the divide between them. In fact, Cassandra drives everyone away, yet resents them for attacking her. Even Zhan Tiri indirectly points out that the common denominator in all the times people wronged her or got in her way, is Cassandra herself and her spitefulness.

* NotHelpingYourCase: In "Once a Handmaiden...", she confirms Eugene, Varian, and the guards' fears that she is still a threat to Corona by unleashing her black rocks, albeit in [[CrimeOfSelfDefense self defense]]. In the same episode, after Cassandra discovers the true identity of Zhan Tiri and hears the NotSoDifferentRemark, she [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere runs]] and is so enraged she calls the black rocks to destroy a random tree.

* PillowPistol: "Big Brothers Of Corona" shows us that Cassandra sleeps with a sword next to her bed, and when a noise wakes her up, she reaches for the sword to fight the intruder at her room, her best friend Rapunzel. Did we mention Cassandra is TheParanoiac?

* PsychologicalProjection: For the first two seasons, Cassandra struggles to wrap her head around the idea that other people are not as concerned with personal gain or getting to be in the spotlight as she is. A prime example is in "Challenge of the Brave", where Cassandra thinks simply asking Rapunzel to back out of the competition would be ridiculous because she believes no one in their right mind would miss out on the chance to show the kingdom their greatness. In the third season, this trait is exaggerated:

** In "A Tale of Two Sisters", Cassandra believes that Rapunzel must have the same need to know she was loved by Gothel, and therefore quickly assumes Rapunzel hid the only magic mirror containing a memory of Gothel ([[ExactEavesdropping seemingly]]) showing affection to her biological daughter.
** In "Once a Handmaiden", Cassandra believes Rapunzel will [[RejectedApology not forgive her betrayal]]. It's clear for everyone that Rapunzel will forgive her immediately, but when Zhan Tiri manipulates Cassandra into believing Rapunzel has betrayed her, Cassandra does not forgive Rapunzel.

* PsychopathicWomanchild: After her StartOfDarkness and subsequent TookALevelInJerkass, she acts incredibly entitled, and is very fond of losing her temper whenever she doesn't get what she thinks she deserves.

* RavenHairIvorySkin: In contrast to her mother's darker skin, Cassandra has very pale skin, unusual for such an athletic character.

* RedemptionRejection: In Season 3, she's been offered quite a few chances to come back to Corona on good terms, mostly by Rapunzel or Varian, but keeps denying them, either due to her own stubbornness or Zhan Tiri's control.

* ReformedButRejected: [[JustifiedTrope Albeit via a case in which you really can't blame the ones who "rejected" her]]. In "Once a Handmaiden...", Cassandra, upon realizing that Zhan Tiri has been manipulating her, realizes just how much she has screwed up and tries to go back to Corona to make amends and apologize. Because she's so nervous that Rapunzel might reject her and everyone in Corona attacks her on sight, she goes in disguise. But when Zhan Tiri makes her disguise malfunction, Cassandra tries to start apologizing, but through a series of miscommunication and false assumptions, the guards think she's attacking Rapunzel, and Eugene and Varian attack her with the golden amber, and in the end, Cassandra decides that it's not worth it to make amends since she's going to be treated like the villain anyway, and ends up taking over Corona.

* RevengeBeforeReason: She chooses to take the Moonstone and run away in an attempt to make her own destiny, ignoring or even trying not to think about how this will likely put the fate of the world at risk. It's not until the series finale, when Zhan Tiri is running amuck with the Sundrop and Moonstone's power, that Cassandra seems to finally realize that putting the safety of the entire world in jeopardy for her own self-gain was probably not a smart decision when Cassandra herself is still living in that world.

* MulticoloredHair: Her hair is mainly black but has numerous greyish/silver streaks. Once she merges with the Moonstone, her hair is mainly sea blue with light blue streaks.

** Her motivation for turning to evil is that her own mother abandoned her in favor of Rapunzel, which she interprets as Rapunzel living a charmed life and always getting what's been denied to her. However, Mother Gothel was abusive and kept her confined, while the adoptive father Cass gained genuinely cared about her, meaning that Cass had a far better upbringing than Rapunzel did. Eugene recounts the events of the original film to her in "The Quest for Varian", and Rapunzel tries pointing this out, stating she was never loved by Gothel but her victim, but Cass dismisses both of them.
** In the SeriesFinale, Cassandra delivers the NotSoDifferentRemark to Rapunzel, that would have been an ArmorPiercingQuestion if only Cassandra would realize that Rapunzel still believes in her and recognizes the similarities between them, so it's more like Wangst on Cassandra's part.

The only downsides are that Rapunzel trusts Adira and ignores her advice more often than not. [[AesopAmnesia And yet she still falls prey to her insecurities and desire for recognition, resulting in her being where she is by the third season]], thus bringing upon ''herself'' a HappyEndingOverride.

* HatedByAll: "Once a Handmaiden..." showed that everyone in the kingdom now viewed her as a traitor and [[TheDreaded feared]] her, forcing Cassandra to travel under disguise to get close enough to Rapunzel. The heartbreaking part is seeing even [[NiceGuy Uncle Monty]] and [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} Shorty]] attacking her.

* ItsAllMyFault: After Zhan Tiri stabs her in the back and tosses her aside, Cassandra finally breaks and admits that her jealousy and shortsightedness have destroyed her home, ruined all her friendships and brought about the end of the world. Following this, she and Rapunzel team up once more and destroy Zhan Tiri.

** She is also highly wary of Adira despite her genuine helpfulness towards the group. Becomes later justified in "Plus Est En Vous" where it's confirmed by Rapunzel that her wariness about Adira's intentions ended up saving her life.

* TokenEvilTeammate: Out of Rapunzel's loved ones, Varian included, she's ''by far'' the most morally corrupt.

** In "Cassandra's Revenge", while she certainly isn't kind to him otherwise, she does (mostly) [[YouWillBeSpared refrain from]] hurting/killing Varian even after capturing him, in addition to assuring him she knows this isn't his fault and that she's only keeping him for the moment so that Rapunzel can come for her. She's also willing to, upon catching Pascal spying on her, contain him in a cage and return him to Rapunzel unharmed.

* {{Hypocrite}}: By Season 3, Cassandra has fully convinced herself that ''everyone'' she's ever known has only used her and discarded her for their own ends, and hates them all for it. That being said, in "Race To The Spire", it's revealed that Cassandra's endgame plan for the season involves turning every member of the Brotherhood into her mind-controlled slaves, stripping of them of their free will so they can become foot-soldiers in her own army, using them for her own ends.

* {{Irony}}: During her VillainSong, "Crossing The Line", Cassandra thinks she's setting herself free and embracing a chance to reach her full potential by running off with the Moonstone and cutting loose the princess who's always been holding her back with false promises (hence the song's liberating tone). When, in reality, Cassandra is just trading in one set of chains for another one, since the Moonstone is not a good substitute for human company and her new acquaintance Zhan Tiri is just using her.

** In "Cassandra's Revenge", after going out of her way to threaten all her friends, and bait a fight from Rapunzel, Cassandra is knocked off the top of her tower by Rapunzel - [[SubvertedTrope just managing to catch herself and survive.]] Additionally, the Moonstone she betrayed her friends to get has been left damaged from the battle.

* HeelRealization: In "Once a Handmaiden", after a season of Cassandra arguing that [[WellIntentionedExtremist she's not a villain,]] she gets a NotSoDifferentRemark from the BigBad, runs terrified and finds a WantedPoster identifying her as a [[EtTuBrute Traitor]] with a drawing showing her EvilMakeover. Then she stares at the destruction she's caused, and her EvilTowerOfOminousness and the truth very quickly dawns on her:

* NotEvilJustMisunderstood: Even when the rest of Corona sees her as a lost cause, Rapunzel remains firm that even though her best friend's heart has been hardened, [[HiddenHeartOfGold the Cassandra she knows is still there.]] Outright [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded]] in "Once A Handmaiden..." with Cassandra and Rapunzel remarking during the play that the whole situation is "complicated".

* AbusiveOffspring: In "Islands Apart", she beats her adoptive father and endangers his life, also [[MisplacedRetribution accusing him of only doing what was best for himself]] in the process [[UngratefulBitch despite him having taken her in and raised her lovingly]].

* ILied: She assures Rapunzel she won't hurt Calliope if the former surrenders the Mind-Trap to her in "Race to the Spire", only to attempt to kill her anyway after Rapunzel does exactly what she demanded.

** The princess who treated her with the respect she so desperately wanted? Said princess' boyfriend who was the reason she was rescued in the first place? Or even the man who generously took her in and raised her well after she was abandoned by her mother? She'll still throw them under the bus because an utterly irrational sense of resentment has her thinking this will get her closer to achieving the glory she believes she deserves.

** Justified in that, while Rapunzel could do nothing to help him, Cassandra could do even less, especially with a snowstorm threatening the entire kingdom. When Varian barges in to beg for help, she seems to already know how it's going to end.
