* LaserBlade: She wields two curved-hilt red-bladed lightsabers. Later, after they were stolen by Barriss Offee, Ventress wields a new yellow-bladed lightsaber.

* WrongContextMagic: Played with. Nightsisters call their art "magic(k)", but it is technically meant to be just an exotic school of Force powers resembling Sith alchemy. That said, some of their magical abilities are pretty unique within the established ''Star Wars'' universe, like Talzin's way to teleport objects and herself (though ''Film/TheRiseOfSkywalker'' definitely broke its uniqueness) and her usage of voodoo dolls. Windu lampshades this trope by telling Talzin that magic is just an illusion, though this could be easily just him taunting her, given that at that moment he was seeing first hand how real it was.

* BondVillainStupidity: During the invasion of Dathomir, she reveals to have a voodoo ritual that enables her to harm Dooku from her own planet. However, despite she effectively threats to kill him through the spell, she takes her time to slowly torture him by parts instead of going for the kill quickly. In fact, considering that getting revenge against Dooku was her first goal all the time, one wonders why didn't she use the ritual from the beginning instead of messing things up with Ventress and Savage.

* OneManArmy: He was able to kill a squad of Clone Troopers, a Jedi Master and a Palawan without much effort in his first outing.

* YoungerMentorOlderDisciple: He's the older brother to his second Sith Master, Darth Maul.

* TheJuggernaut: Initially the battles with him tend to consist of his opponents retreating almost constantly. This is avoided later when people like Maul and Obi-wan are able to beat him with relative ease.

* ArmorIsUseless: Downplayed. His ancient-looking armor is no match for a lightsaber, but it works well enough against blaster fire for Savage to survive to multiple nearby shooters without serious wounds.

** In canon, Ventress has no relationship with Durge, who was re-introduced as a Empire-era bounty hunter unrelated to the CIS. In ''Legends'', they were partners and crime during the Clone Wars.

* ShesGotLegs: And likes to show it. Her Nightsister outfit is a HellBentForLeather ZettaiRyouiki.

* {{Foreshadowing}}: Like Maul, Dooku, and Grievous, Savage can be seen as an aspect of Vader. Particularly his unnatural strength, tendency to Force Choke his victims, and how his [[LoveMakesYouEvil fear for his brother's fate turned him into the monster that killed his brother]], echos Vader's turn to the Dark Side.

* AdaptationalWimp: In ''Legends'', even after being decimated by the Empire, the Dathomirian Nightsisters were capable to mobilize impressive forces with minimal coalitions. A single high-rank witch like Silri lent the Zann Consortium many Nightsisters who mastered Force drain and rode rancors, forming a shock troop contingent so powerful that it could go toe to toe with Imperial land forces, and other posterior clans were still powerful enough to be threats to Jedi and Sith alike, including Luke Skywalker of all people. Indeed, the Nightsisters were [[TheDreaded scary enough]] that the local Imperial Warlord blew up every working ship on the planet to keep them from escaping into the larger galaxy and wreaking havoc. In contrast, the canon established that the few guerrilleras we saw under Mother Talzin's command in ''The Clone Wars'' were actually about all the (wo)manpower the Nightsisters had before being nigh-exterminated.

* CanonImmigrant: The first Nightsister originated in the direct-to-TV movie ''Ewoks: Battle for Endor'' (but wasn't identified as one until later), and the culture (and the planet Dathomir) originated in the ExpandedUniverse novel, ''The Courtship of Princess Leia''. However, after the 2014 reboot, none of those appearances are canon any longer. The rest of Dathomir's witch clans would be re-canonized by the short story "Bug".

* DeathByAdaptation: In the ''Legends'' continuity, the Nightsisters survived past the Galactic Civil War (and ironically, were introduced into ''Star Wars'' lore in that era). In the canon, it would seem the Nightsister culture was killed off before the Clone Wars ended, with there being few survivors after the war.

* DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale: Thankfully subverted, as the way the Nightsisters treat the Nightbrothers is ''horrifying'' but it is treated as such itself.
* DyingRace: Subverted. After General Grievous's attack on the Nightsisters and a later attack on the Nightbrother village, both clans were left with very few survivors. However, the short story "Bug" reveals that there are other witch clans on the planet, such as the Singing Mountain clan, which means the species itself is not on the verge of extinction.

* CurbStompBattle: Initially his opponents often find themselves on the receiving end of this Eventually Savage finds himself on the receiving of them with Maul, Obi-wan and Sidious.

* KillEmAll: General Grievous' attack on Dathomir in "[[Recap/StarWarsTheCloneWarsS4E19Massacre Massacre]]" left the Nightsisters with only three survivors (aside from at least one who was offworld at the time). At the end of ''Son of Dathomir'', Mother Talzin is killed and it is implied that all of the Nightbrothers except for Darth Maul were wiped out. However, ''VideoGame/JediFallenOrder'' confirms that multiple Nightbrothers and at least Nightsister Merrin have survived.

* NoOntologicalInertia: Her zombies can only stay "alive" for as long as she maintains the spell. The instant she's killed by Grievous, they drop like flies. [[KillEmAll Then, the Separatist droids kill the rest of the clan]].

* AnAxeToGrind: His first weapon before he trades it for a lightsaber was an enormous enchanted vibro-axe.
* BadassBaritone: Creator/ClancyBrown is at work.

* KnifeNut: She wields a long and wicked looking knife.

* BadassBoast: After discovering Malicos's betrayal, she delivers this gem:

* DarkIsNotEvil: She is an Nightsister, wielding all those sinister powers and being very creepy specially when introduced, but is revealed to have been misguided and ultimately is a good person.

* EleventhHourRanger: [[spoiler:Merrin joins Cal and the crew of the Mantis very late in the game after Malicos is defeated having realized she and Cal aren't so different as survivors of [[ThePurge mass purging of their kind]] and out of a desire to join him as they both try to move forward for the sake of finding their places in the galaxy]].
* FacialMarkings: Has an symmetrical tattoo across her brow and cheeks.
* FishOutOfWater: She has had virtually no information about the galaxy beyond Dathomir until Cal came, due to her people's isolationism and Malicos's manipulations. As such, when she is told "the Empire" is after what Cal, she asks ''what'' Empire, not having the slightest idea about the state of the galaxy. She also can't speak Binary (meaning she can't understand [[RobotBuddy BD-1]]), but that isn’t as odd, as other characters in the franchise have the same difficulty, including Greez in ''Jedi: Fallen Order'' itself.
* GoodCostumeSwitch: She wears a hooded, jewelry-encrusted [[RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver black-on-red]] robe during Cal's first visit to Dathomir, when she attempts to drive him off due to her mistaken belief that the Jedi killed her people. [[spoiler:When he returns to find her questioning her choices and willing to join him, she's switched to a plain-looking red-on-black tunic]].

* HeelFaceTurn: She is initially an protege to a Dark Jedi that crash-landed on her planet who used her to exploit the planet's magick. After meeting Cal, she comes to realize she's been manipulated, helps him defeat her master, and leaves Dathomir to join his journey.

* IronicEcho: Spits the PreMortemOneLiner Taron Malicos challenged Cal Kestis with [[spoiler: while using her magic to [[BuriedAlive bury Malicos alive]].]]

* LastOfHerKind: At the very least, she is the last surviving Nightsister still living in Dathomir. Seeing that Cal finds a potential means to bring about the next generation of Jedi, as he himself says, just serves to make her sadder, as she knows "nothing will bring back [her] people."

* NotSoAboveItAll: [[spoiler:While she is usually no-nonsense and all business, when Greez seems especially nervous and offers to cook the crew of the ''Mantis'' steaks, she notes that she likes them rare, even stopping him from walking away specifically to tell him that. Evidently hanging around the ''Mantis'' has an effect on her, as she later jokes that she needs a sacrifice for a cloaking ritual, and that one of Greez's arms will do nicely]].

* PatrioticFervor: As the last inheritor of her culture, she loves and respects Dathomir and its civilisation deeply. It may be an absolutely hellish place by anyone else's standards, but it's still her home, and still a place with a rich and ancient history and culture (even if most of it was horrible).
* PetTheDog: When the Mantis first arrived on Dathomir, Malicos told her to kill Cere and Greez. Merrin decided against it, as they posed no threat. This is before her HeelFaceTurn and befriending of Cal.

* ShipTease: Seems to develop an interest in Cal beyond mere friendship. She inquires about Cal’s relationship with Cere as without mentioning Greez, and the two later share a hug for which she awkwardly apologizes (on account of his injuries).
* {{Teleportation}}: Can use magick to teleport from one area to another.
* TookALevelInKindness: Not that she is a bad person by any means, but the longer she spends time around people who aren’t [[EvilMentor Taron Malicos]] or from Dathomir, the nicer and more relaxed she becomes. By the end of the game, she outright gives Cal a hug when he recovers from his injuries.

* CurbStompBattle: Initially his opponents often find themselves on the receiving end of this:
** In his debut episode "[[Recap/StarWarsTheCloneWarsS3E13Monster Monster]]", he took down two Jedi and their clone troopers without breaking a sweat.
** In "[[Recap/StarWarsTheCloneWarsS3E14WitchesOfTheMist Witches of the Mist]]", he tore through King Katuunko's bodyguards, killed Katuunko, and easily shook off Anakin and Obi-Wan during their first attempt to stop him. However, he found himself on the receiving end of one both times he fought against Dooku (the first time was in a training duel).
** In "[[Recap/StarWarsTheCloneWarsS4E21Brothers Brothers]]", the Junkers learned the hard way how powerful he was.
** In "[[Recap/StarWarsTheCloneWarsS4E22Revenge Revenge]]", he effortlessly knocked out Obi-Wan with Maul only watching.
** In "[[Recap/StarWarsTheCloneWarsS5E1Revival Revival]]", Adi Gallia was quickly put on the defensive and her kicks didn't even phase him, which resulted in Savage killing her. In the same episode however, Savage found himself on the receiving end of two curb-stomps: beforehand, he was effortlessly trounced by his brother, establishing Maul as the stronger one of the pair, and afterwards, Obi-Wan (who, unlike in their last fight, is now in 100% physical condition and isn't caught off guard) defeats Savage by cutting off his left arm, and would have killed him if it weren't for Maul.
** In "[[Recap/StarWarsTheCloneWarsS5E16TheLawless The Lawless]]", however, Savage finds himself on the receiving of one when Darth Sidious effortlessly took him down.

* SingleBiomePlanet: Actually, averted; the impression that Dathomir is one giant swamp/jungle is easy to take away from its appearance in ''[[WesternAnimation/StarWarsTheCloneWars The Clone Wars]]'', but that's just because all of the Dathomir-relevant episodes involve the Nightsisters, who live in that area. Even in the series, we visit the barren, rocky mountains where the Nightbrothers live.

* SuperStrength: Even before his transformation, he was able to crush stones with his bare fists, but following the Nightsisters' ritual, this was turned UpToEleven. During the Devaron massacre, he threw a clone trooper several meters into the air with a ''single upwards strike of his axe''.

* AdaptationalBackstoryChange: In ''Legends'', Ventress had parents and competed as a gladiator in the Rattataki Cauldron after those and Ky Narec were killed, this being how Dooku found her. In canon, she neither knew her parents (which is first excised in ''The Clone Wars'') nor competed as a gladiator.

* ArcVillain: Of "[[Recap/StarWarsTheCloneWarsS6E8TheDisappearedPart1 The]] [[Recap/StarWarsTheCloneWarsS6E9TheDisappearedPart2 Disappeared]]" two-parter.
