* DarkIsEvil: She has a dark coloration and can manipulate dark purple energy, and she's one of the evil Humanoids.
* TheDragon: She's the direct subordinate of Ein, [[spoiler: though she secretly plans to backstab him.]]
* EarWings: She has wings on the sides of her face as well.
* GetBackHereBoss: She spends half of her boss fight rush-kicking you and the other half flying above the arena, which makes the battle against her a test of patience.
* HarpingOnAboutHarpies: Zwei is, essentially, a four-winged harpy with feather-like hair, talons and a tail.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: [[spoiler: As she's performing some EvilGloating on the fatally wounded Natoe, he pulls out Bishamonten and impales her in the chest and through her skull, killing her.]]
* LightningBruiser: When hovering at ground level, she can make extremely fast dashing attacks with her talons, multiple times in a row. Mastering Just Guard or Just Step is mandatory to deal damage to her.
* MadeASlave: She threatens to inflict this on Natoe and her three bodyguards are all humans she put under her control.
* TheStarscream: [[spoiler: After Ein's defeat, she pulls a sneak attack on Natoe and Jodie, revealing that she was planning to take the Sacred Jewel for herself.]]
* VillainessesWantHeroes: She becomes smitten with Natoe and plans to forcibly make him her pet.

* BadBoss: He doesn't seem to care too much about his creations, as White Fox and Zex can attest. [[spoiler: Ends up biting him hard in the ass when his verbal abuse of Zex Ultimate costs him his life.]]
* BaldOfEvil: He's completely hairless and the most amoral and disgusting of the bad guys.
* EarlyBirdCameo: He's first encountered in the sewers in Chapter 4 where he's collecting corpses for his research.
* TheEvilGenius: He's a scientist and it's implied he's behind most of the improvements and creations the heroes have to face. For sure he has modified Zex and is implied to have done the same to White Fox.
* FatBastard: He's grotesquely obese, to the point that his hovering chair may as well be part of him.
* ForScience: As mentioned in his bio, he doesn't really care about Ein's goals and methods as long as he's left free to experiment and carry out his twisted research at his leisure.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: [[spoiler: He's beheaded and crushed to smithereens by Zex Ultimate, his pride and joy, after insulting him one time too many.]]
* MajorInjuryUnderreaction: [[spoiler: When Zex Ultimate crushes his body to a pulp, his still-living head calmly but angrily points out that he's not programmed for disobedience and orders him to put his head back on his body.]]
* NonActionGuy: He's too out of shape for battle and prefers to let out his toys instead.
* RoboticReveal: [[spoiler: When he's reduced to a head, the wound is filled with cables and lets out electrical surges, implying that Drei has a robotic body.]]
* VillainTakesAnInterest: Seems interested in both Hinata and Natoe from a scientific point of view, and is delighted by the chances Natoe offers him to put his creations on trial.
* WeCanRebuildHim: Improves Zex after the latter is defeated.

to:

-->Voiced by: Joe Romersa

* AttackOfThe50FootWhatever: He's already pretty large on his own, but becomes even bigger first as "Beast" and later as "Ultimate", courtesy of his head being place on a giant machine.
* AxCrazy: According to his bio, Zex enjoys mutilating people with his bare hands, even if they're harmless civilians, which is why he's seen running after the villagers in the intro.
* TheBerserker: His first enhancement as Zex 1.5 is to make him more feral and aggressive. He goes even wilder as Zex Beast.
* TheBrute: The only thing going for him is sheer muscular brutality and eagerness to maim and shred. All of Ein's other minions are far smarter.
* ChestBlaster: In his Ultimate form, his chest can release either a barrage of mortar-like shots or a single devastating ion beam.
* DumbMuscle: Zex's far from being a smart person, and his brains are never too far from "needless brutal murder".
* EvilRedhead: Zex is the most brutish and feral Humanoid among the elites, and has spiky red hair to compliment his love for murder and mayhem.
* FrickinLaserBeam: In his Ultimate form, the maw on his chest can open and charge a devastating laser beam which can one-shot Natoe if he's caught between Zex's arms as he's charging the attack.
* MusclesAreMeaningless: His arm alone is bigger than Natoe, but he's surprisingly easy to beat. He needs hi-tech surgery to keep up.
* NightmareFace: As Zex Beast, the modification gave him a more feral, monstrous visage which bares his teeth even more.
* NumericalThemeNaming: His name may come from "Sechs", which means Six in German.
* OffWithHisHead: On the receiving end when Natoe finish off his Beast form. Too bad this doesn't stop Drei from putting his head on a colossal death machine.
* OneWingedAngel: Three forms, one per boss fight, though he never transform during the battle but he's modified offscreen. First there's his "1.5" form... which is nigh-identical to his base form but has more attacks and health. Then there's his "Beast" form, where he has purple skin, bigger muscles, exposed teeth and can pop metal spikes out of his chest or back. Finally his severed head is attached to a giant legless robot with huge arms and a massive maw in the chest, called "Ultimate" form.
* RecurringBoss: Zex is fought four times across the game, in different chapters.
* SlasherSmile: Often sports a sadistic smirk as he's chasing his prey.
* SpikesOfVillainy: In his Beast form he can keep Natoe back by ejecting metal spikes from either the front or the back of his torso.
* PivotalBoss: In his Ultimate form, Zex is stuck in a hole in the middle of the ring-shaped plaza before the Cathedral, and Natoe has to run around him during the combat.
* WarmUpBoss: Zex is the first boss and met pretty soon, but is easy to fight and can be Just-Stepped like nothing.

to:

-->Voiced by: None

* CoolSword: Wields the "Lamentation Sword" [[note]] original name: Dokoku no Ken, Sword of the Furious Cry [[/note]] which allows him to become invisible at will.
* GigglingVillain: During his second confrontation with Natoe in the sewer's lift.
* GratuitousEnglish: His name is actually "White Fox" even in the original Japanese.
* HollywoodCyborg: Implied to be a machine type Humanoid rather than a Humanoid with an odd armor.
* {{Invisibility}}: During his second and third fights he can use his sword to become invisible for a while.
* {{Kitsune}}: Invoked by his name and design, coupled with his ninja-like fighting style.
* OddlyShapedSword: The Lamentation Sword has the hilt of a phirangi, sports a couple of horn-like prongs halfway through and the tip fans out in an arrowhead.
* RecurringBoss: He's fought as a boss three times, first as he's going after the escaping villagers, then when Natoe goes in the sewers to follow the Agents.

to:

-->Voiced by: ???

* AnimalMotifs: As reflected in their role and special equipment, Klein has Dragons, Weite has Lions and Lange has Rams.
* BigThinShortTrio: It's even reflected in their names, the GratuitousGerman for Wide, Small and Long, though in this case, "Wide" is the Short and "Small" is the Big one.
* {{Bishonen}}: Weite is rather pretty and boyish, which may be the reason why Zwei choose him.
* BlingBlingBang: The special equipment they wear (Gauntlet, Shield and Helm) is seemingly made of gold and a personal gift bestowed by Zwei herself.
* EvilSorcerer: Lange can float, summon fire pillars to attack, use flying chakrams to hit from a distance and his ram mask may be a nod to the devilish goat.
* FighterMageThief: Klein is the slow but unstoppable Fighter, Lange is the long-distance but physically weak Mage capable of conjuring flames while Weite is the fast-moving but fragile Thief.
* FragileSpeedster: Weite is the fastest of the group and can attack swiftly, but chances are he'll be the first to bite the dust.
* InstantAwesomeJustAddDragons: Klein's gauntlet is basically a gilded dragon skull attached to his arm which allows him to shoot fire from it.
* IronicName: As noted above, Weite (wide) is the short and scrawny one, while Klein (small) is the huge powerhouse.
* KnightlySwordAndShield: Weite carries a lion-shaped shield and an arming sword called "Calaimn Solais" and is devoted to the protection of his lady Zwei.
* MadeASlave: All three of them are actually humans who were enslaved and conditioned by Zwei into being her servants. It's unclear how much of their loyalty is genuine.
* PlayingWithFire: Klein's gauntlet can shoot flames and has a deadly grab attack where it "bites" on Natoe before breathing a stream of flames. When reduced to two fighters, Lange will start spawning fiery pillars from the ground.
* PowerFloats: Lange is costantly floating above the ground.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Their eyes shines red for a moment as they challenge Natoe.
* RingsOfDeath: Lange's weapon of choice outside of magic.
* WolfpackBoss: You fight all three of them at once as part of the MarathonBoss of chapter 9.
* YouShallNotPass: They try to stop Natoe from reaching Zwei's position.

to:

-->Voiced by: Christopher Carroll

* {{BFS}}: His weapon is enormous and he could easily hide himself behind it.
* {{Bishonen}}: He's surprisingly easy on the eyes and, with a boyish face and long, wavy hair.
* BloodKnight: He's entrhalled by the prospect of battle, though mostly is because he hopes to find a warrior good enough to kill him for real.
* DeathSeeker: His powerful regeneration made him believe he was indestructible, and envies puny humans for their frailty and mortality. In the end, he wishes to "ascend to Nirvana" and find rest.
* TheDragon: He's Ein's personal enforcer and disciple, who guards the first access to the Cathedral in the Forbidden Land.
* FlashStep: He can move istantly from one spot to the other in spite of his humongous Mictian.
* GracefulLoser: When he's finally cut down by Natoe, he's exalted for his impending death and keep his bargain with the samurai before letting himself fall from the platform they were fighting on.
* HealingFactor: Fen's "indistructible body" is just an extremely potent regeneration factor which makes him think he cannot die. Since he [[WhoWantsToLiveForever doesn't like the thought of living forever and longs to experience death]], he's not satisfied with this power. During his boss fight he will recover his health when he's not being attacked.
* HellBentForLeather: Wears a leathery outfit which includes TooManyBelts and a HighCollarOfDoom.
* NobleDemon: He's serving someone who devoted himself to the genocide of humans, but he's not without a sense of honor and is willing to let Natoe pass if he can kill him in combat.
* OddlyShapedSword: Mictian is a giant crescent blade with a spiked edge, its handle being a long wooden pole on the inside of the blade, connecting both the upper and lower ends.
* OneHandedZweihander: During his boss fight and in spite of his body frame, Fen can wield the gigantic Mictian with one hand even as he attacks.
* PurpleIsTheNewBlack: His dark clothes are not black, but rather in a shade of purple.
* RedBaron: Fen "the Executioner", according to the menu. Implied because of his role as Ein's enforcer.
* SerratedBladeOfPain: Mictian's blade is divide in several wide-blade barbs.
* ShoutOut: Mictian, Fen's sword, is describe as a [[Manga/{{Berserk}} "giant slab of iron" which could potentially slay dragons.]]
* SpikesOfVillainy: His outfit has sets of spikes on it.
* UnskilledButStrong: As the description of Mictian implies, Fen has no use for fancy moves or swordfighting skills. With a sword that big, all he has to do is to approach his enemy and crush him with a few powerful strikes.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: Downplayed, while he's amoral and kill-happy, he's also more noble and introspective than the other Humanoids.
* WorthyOpponent: Thinks that Natoe's warrior skills are enough to slay him as he wishes.

From an early age, Natoe studied under the legendary swordsman Musashi, trying to perfect his skills. He is the last surviving hunter to wield the long-lost Nihonto sword. Although he's a great swordsman, he ran away before completing his training and now travels the world as he pleases. He feels no need for authority and believes in complete freedom, though he is still young and his instinct for right and wrong has yet to be established. He has a kind heart and harbours deep empathy for the weak while having antipathy for the self-important. Natoe is reluctant when it comes to killing, yet he does what he feels is necessary to ensure that the strong do not prey upon the weak. A genuine figure, he is on the path to becoming a true samurai.

Based on Katsushiro.
----

* ArrogantKungFuGuy: He often feel he's superior to his enemies, and he's not afraid to tell them.
* BareYourMidriff: His top leaves part of his abdomen bare, showing part of his abs. [[EatingTheEyeCandy Zwei seems to appreciate that.]]
* CharacterDevelopment: At the start of the game he's nothing more than a cynical vagabond who fights Humanoids because he has nothing better to do with his life. As he spends time with the others he becomes more selfless and amiable.
* DeadpanSnarker: His tongue is just as sharp as his swords, and he's not afraid to snark if he has to.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: Just like [[UsefulNotes/MiyamotoMusashi Musashi]] said, [[spoiler: Natoe ends up fighting the divine-looking Almana and cutting him down.]]
* DualWielding: He can employ his Nitoh Ryuu whenever the gauge is full, unleashing incredibly fast and more damaging attacks on his opponents for a short period of time.
* FaceFault: His reaction when face with Mu and Chi's GratuitousRapping introduction.
* FlashStep: Aside from parrying, Natoe can dash to dodge his enemies and, if he dashes right before an attack, he can basically teleport behind the attacking enemy, who remains stunned in place for a second or two.
* GogglesDoNothing: Wears a pair of googles on his head, for unknown purposes.
* TheHeroDies: [[spoiler: Is mortally wounded by Zwei as he tries to rescue Jodie from falling off a bridge, which ends with him and her dying together.]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Abrasive, taunting and arrogant as he is, Natoe is a good soul deep down, and a nice person overall.
* LightningBruiser: His fighting style emphasize speed and when using Nitoh Ryuu he attacks even harder and faster.
* NumericalThemeNaming: In Natoe, we have a double numerical theme with "na" standing for Nana (7) and to standing for ten.

* SticksToTheBack: His Bishamonten sword, which was a memento of Musashi.
* SuperMode: Nitoh Mode can be considered this, as it allows Natoe to attack faster and harder with a different combo set for a short while. Performing Just Attacks, Just Steps or Just Guards refills the gauge for a while, allowing Natoe to carry on using the Nitoh Mode for longer.
* TakingYouWithMe: [[spoiler: As he's mortally wounded and lying face down on a bridge he uses the last of his strength to impale Zwei with Bishamonten, killing her.]]

[[folder:Jodie]]

She is the daughter of the legendary swordsman Musashi, Natoe's master. She grew up with Natoe and has always held a special place in her heart for him, though she never admits it. From Natoe's point of view, Jodie sometimes acts spoiled and selfish. Jodie, however, thinks that Natoe is the selfish one since he abandoned her father's wishes for him to become the next samurai master. She follows Natoe around trying to convince him to return home with her and live up to her father's expectations. It's wise not to be fooled by her looks or her black wooden sword, as she is the daughter of the most respected swordsman of all time.

Quite the prankster, he enjoys a good laugh at others' expense. His disposition is hard to decipher, since he never lets anyone get too close to him. Many think this is because of his sister's untimely death. Totsuma's sister was killed by a group of humanoids led by the sinister villain Necryl. Totsuma is torn between going after Necryl for revenge and joining Natoe to put a stop to the humanoids. In the end, he has one goal: to ensure that his misfortunes don't happen to someone else.
