The Seven Samurai

    Natoe

Natoe

Voiced by: Liam O'Brien
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/545706_562264_20040120_001_2.jpg

The first of the Seven and the main protagonist, as well as the main character.

From an early age, Natoe studied under the legendary swordsman Musashi, trying to perfect his skills. He is the last surviving hunter to wield the long-lost Nihonto sword. Although he's a great swordsman, he ran away before completing his training and now travels the world as he pleases. He feels no need for authority and believes in complete freedom, though he is still young and his instinct for right and wrong has yet to be established. He has a kind heart and harbours deep empathy for the weak while having antipathy for the self-important. Natoe is reluctant when it comes to killing, yet he does what he feels is necessary to ensure that the strong do not prey upon the weak. A genuine figure, he is on the path to becoming a true samurai.

Based on Katsushiro.

  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: He often feel he's superior to his enemies, and he's not afraid to tell them.
  • Character Development: At the start of the game he's nothing more than a cynical vagabond who fights Humanoids because he has nothing better to do with his life. As he spends time with the others he becomes more selfless and amiable.
  • Deadpan Snarker: His tongue is just as sharp as his swords, and he's not afraid to snark if he has to.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: Just like Musashi said, Natoe ends up fighting the divine-looking Almana and cutting him down.
  • Dual Wielding: He can employ his Nitoh Ryuu whenever the gauge is full, unleashing incredibly fast and more damaging attacks on his opponents for a short period of time.
  • Face Fault: His reaction when face with Mu and Chi's Gratuitous Rap introduction.
  • Flash Step: Aside from parrying, Natoe can dash to dodge his enemies and, if he dashes right before an attack, he can basically teleport behind the attacking enemy, who remains stunned in place for a second or two.
  • Goggles Do Nothing: Wears a pair of googles on his head, for unknown purposes.
  • The Hero Dies: Is mortally wounded by Zwei as he tries to rescue Jodie from falling off a bridge, which ends with him and her dying together.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Abrasive, taunting and arrogant as he is, Natoe is a good soul deep down, and a nice person overall.
  • Lightning Bruiser: His fighting style emphasize speed and when using Nitoh Ryuu he attacks even harder and faster.
  • Mr. Fanservice: His top leaves part of his abdomen bare, showing part of his abs. Zwei seems to appreciate that.
  • Multi-Melee Master: Normally he carries Kazusanosuke Kaneshige in his right hand and Bishamonten in his left, but the Katana function in the menu lets him swap them or use all the weapons unlocked during the game (which can result in him dualwielding the weapons of Oniwaka and Ushiwaka or swing twin copies of the weapons from his companions. Yes, even dual rocket-launcher/bayonet spears.
  • Named Weapons: His two swords: his standard katana Kazusanosuke Kaneshige, a memento of his master Musashi and his personal katana Bishamonten, named after the War God.
  • Numerical Theme Naming: In Natoe, we have a double numerical theme with "na" standing for Nana (7) and to standing for ten.
  • One-Man Army: Natoe ends up fighting enormous amounts of enemies on his own an he always ends up on top.
  • Sticks to the Back: His Bishamonten sword, which can only be drawn by Natoe.
  • Super Mode: Nitoh Mode can be considered this, as it allows Natoe to attack faster and harder with a different combo set for a short while. Performing Just Attacks, Just Steps or Just Guards refills the gauge for a while, allowing Natoe to carry on using the Nitoh Mode for longer.
  • Taking You with Me: As he's mortally wounded and lying face down on a bridge he uses the last of his strength to impale Zwei with Bishamonten, killing her.
  • Walking the Earth: After completing his training with Musashi, he starts wandering the land, enjoying his personal freedom.

    Jodie

Jodie

Voiced by: Michelle Ruff
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/545707_562264_20040120_002.jpg

She is the daughter of the legendary swordsman Musashi, Natoe's master. She grew up with Natoe and has always held a special place in her heart for him, though she never admits it. From Natoe's point of view, Jodie sometimes acts spoiled and selfish. Jodie, however, thinks that Natoe is the selfish one since he abandoned her father's wishes for him to become the next samurai master. She follows Natoe around trying to convince him to return home with her and live up to her father's expectations. It's wise not to be fooled by her looks or her black wooden sword, as she is the daughter of the most respected swordsman of all time.

She's partially based on Gorobei.

  • Distressed Damsel: In Chapter 10 she's captured by Ein for the Sacred Jewel.
  • Happily Adopted: By Musashi, Natoe's master.
  • The Mole: She's actually an Agent, trying to get Hinata back without harming the rest of the group.
  • Nice Job Breaking It Heroine: She takes the Sacred Jewel away from Hinata so that she won't be a target... but by doing this she's then captured by Ein's forces who need the Jewel to turn their leader into a god.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: While Jodie is a capable swordswoman, she's far beneath the level of the group, and even if she really wants to help, Natoe doesn't consider her a valuable asset.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Had she told Natoe and the others about Hinata and her alliegancy, Eight may have avoided sacrificing his eyes.
  • Wooden Katanas Are Even Better: Zigzagged, she carries a customized wooden sword called Jambiya made specifically with her abilities in mind.

    Kambei

Kambei

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/545708_562264_20040120_003.jpg

Kambei is an old soldier with the grace and wisdom of a true samurai. Comfortable in command due to his previous encounters with the humanoids, Kambei prefers not to fight but does what is needed. He is in search of peace, and his experiences allow him to guide Natoe and the others and show them the ways of the samurai. His chivalrous spirit and personality bring him many friends, while his deadly katana keeps his enemies at bay.

He's obviously based on Kambei.

  • The Comically Serious: He's normally serious and collected, but when Natoe and Tatsuma's dispute over a liquor mug makes him slip his hand on the rotating table he's using to illustrate the plan, he reacts by quaffing the whole mug on his own.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: Wields a hiltless one to reinforce his samurai looks. He calls it "Roaring Sword", which as it's weapon entry states is a cynical comment about his life.
  • The Leader: He's the one who comes up with the plan of helping the villagers, and the one who directs the samurai and lay out the plans.
  • Old Master: He's the oldest member of the group, but also a powerful swordsman an an excellent tactician.
  • Old Soldier: Described as such in his bio.
  • Out of Focus: Most of the story focuses on Natoe and the others.
  • Sole Survivor: Alongside Rojie, by the end of the story.
  • The Worf Effect: In Chapter 5 he's seen in dire straits against Lambda, though to be honest she's a tough costumer.

    Tatsuma

Tatsuma

Voiced by: Doug Erholtz
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/545709_562264_20040120_004.jpg

Like Kambei, Totsuma is chivalrous, but he's also cantankerous, with a tendency to say spiteful things. He will make you believe that he's genuinely kind, only to turn on you with abusive words. Quite the prankster, he enjoys a good laugh at others' expense. His disposition is hard to decipher, since he never lets anyone get too close to him. Many think this is because of his sister's untimely death. Totsuma's sister was killed by a group of humanoids led by the sinister villain Necryl. Totsuma is torn between going after Necryl for revenge and joining Natoe to put a stop to the humanoids. In the end, he has one goal: to ensure that his misfortunes don't happen to someone else.

Based on Kikuchiyo.

  • Anti-Hero: As noted in his description, Tatsuma is much less heroic than the others, despite his good heart.
  • Big Damn Heroes: When Natoe is cornered by Zwei in chapter 5, Tatsuma shows up to rescue him while threatening to beat Zwei into submission and make her his pet.
  • Forced into Evil: Early on it's implied that Necryl made him subservient by keeping his sister hostage.
  • The Gadfly: Like in the movie, Tatsuma sounds the alarm bell to scare the mistrusting villagers into coming out of hiding, mocking their cowardice.
  • Heroes Fight Barehanded: While he carries a dagger with him, he mostly fights with his bare hands and feet.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Saves the village leader from a cave in in Drei's mansion but is crushed by a falling column, making him the first Samurai to die.
  • Hidden Depths: He's skilled enough at sewing to make the banner of the Samurai, with 6 circles representing the samurai, a triangle for Natoe and the hiragana "ta" (which could mean either rice paddy or "multitude" depending on the kanji) for the villagers.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While he's abrasive and aloof, he's kind at heart.

    Rojie

Rojie

Voiced by: Peter Spellos
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/545710_562264_20040120_005.jpg

Kambei's comrade and a former samurai himself, Rojie has given up his old lifestyle for the love of his life, Sallah. Convinced Sallah would never love him if she were to find out about his old life, he has sworn never to go back to his old ways and serves as a bodyguard and bouncer at her casino. By a wicked turn of fate, Kambei meets up with Rojie again in the red-light district and asks him to join the rest of the group to protect the villagers. After an attack on Sallah and the casino, Rojie regains his samurai spirit and agrees to join up with the group.

Based on Shichiroji.

  • Bare-Fisted Monk: Not exactly a monk, but currently Rojie fights barehanded, and is strong enough to pull enemies apart with his bare hands.
  • The Big Guy: The largest and physically strongest of the Seven Samurai, he doesn't even need a weapon to tear Humanoids apart.
  • Bodyguard Crush: He's not-so-secretly in love with Sallah, a crime boss of the City's red light district.
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: He's a jovial and straightforward bruiser who took his latest job because he has a crush on his boss.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: When training the villagers he makes no attempt to sugarcoat things or be nice.
  • Dynamic Entry: Or rather exit, in his introduction he flees his quarters by smashing through the nearest wall.
  • It's Personal: When Sallah is forcibly transformed into a Drug Monster he tells Natoe to stand back and let him finish things.
  • Large Ham: His introduction has him letting out a yell so loud for completing a metal wire puzzle that he nearly pushes Natoe back.
  • No Indoor Voice: In his introduction alone, his roaring laughter is so powerful the room trembles and Natoe has to cover his ears with a pained expression.
  • Refusal of the Call: Even if Kambei is asking, Rojie is initially reluctant to help. Sallah's death forces his hand.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: He does wear a jacket, but it's costantly open to expose his muscular physique to the world.

    Eight

Eight

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/545711_562264_20040120_006.jpg

Eight loves to drink and has therefore found himself in pretty compromising situations. Eight's motto is, "Share a drink, and you are my friend." Quite the jolly fellow, he is a master spearman and handles a weapon four times his own height. After Eight joins Natoe and the rest of the group, Kambei takes quite a shining to him and appoints him as his advisor.

Based on Heihachi.

  • Acrofatic: He's short and rotund but surprisingly nimble when required.
  • Bayonet Ya: His "spear", the M2052 Bayonet is something like a massive rocket-launcher with a bayonet attached near the top.
  • Big Fun: He's a jolly person who loves to drink and is introduced entertaining others.
  • Eye Scream: Begs the Agents to call off their hunt for Hinata and pays with his eyes.
  • Gag Nose: Has a distinctive long nose with a rounded end which stands out quite a lot.
  • Pint-Size Powerhouse: Despite being as tall as a child he can still lug around a weapon much heavier than he is.
  • Sad Clown: Looks like fun incarnate, but Eight has to live with his past as an Agent and the fact that it was his decision to free Hinata that started all this mess.
  • Taking You with Me: Blows himself up with a mine to take down the last group of invading Humanoids.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: As an Agent, he took pity on the Sacred Child Hinata and set her free. This puts all the events of the game in motion.

    Cue

Cue

Voiced by: Gwendoline Yeo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/545712_562264_20040120_007.jpg

Considered to be the Goddess of Death, Cue has no memory of her past and is in search of answers. She seems narrow-minded, with an interest only in swords, yet she tries to protect the weak. She has many human attributes, and she is plagued by bizarre visions that only the humanoids possess. Feeling that she is in Natoe's debt since he saved her from the hands of Ein, she follows him and the group hoping to find answers to her own life and unravel the mystery of the Holy Child.

Based on Kyuzo.

  • Apocalypse Maiden: She's the other half of Almana's soul Ein needs to turn into a god-like entity.
  • Amnesiac Hero: Because of a mask she was wearing she had no memory of her past, nor personality of her own. She slowly regains her memory as she travels through the Library of Avalon.
  • Cain and Abel: She is Ein's "soul partner", but unlike him she's definitively a good person.
  • Cool Sword: Wields a curved arming sword with an elaborated golden hilt which is called "Bahbdh"
  • Fusion Dance: Unfortunately she's absorbed by Ein, who uses her and the Sacred Jewel to turn into Almana.
  • Master Swordswoman: She was so skilled she was undefeated in the arena of the City of Battles, and her prowess allows her to wipe out hordes of attacking Humanoids with ease.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She's a gorgeous woman with a deep cleavage line and a nice body.
  • Mystical White Hair: She has white hair and skin and has a mysterious past and a mystical connection with Ein.
  • Showgirl Skirt: Her outfit includes a wide back-only skirt which doesn't seem to inconvenience her.
  • Token Heroic Orc: She's the only good Humanoid encountered.

The Humanoids

    Ein

Ein

Voiced by: Crispin Freeman

The leader of the Humanoids and the first ever created. He believes the Humanoids to be superior to humans and utilizes the massive humanoid army to accomplish this task. Appears as a white-haired, white-skinned gentleman carrying a book and is worshipped by many as a divine figure.

  • Achilles' Heel: As Almana, hitting the light ribbon he uses to attack forces him to lower himself to the ground, while attacking the Sacred Jewel in his chest damages him.
  • Big Bad: He reveals himself as this halfway through the game in chapter 7, after we've already seen his lieutenants.
  • Black Swords Are Better: His Sword of Algathion is a mystical pitch black scimitar with purple hues he can use to attack directly, attack through portals or by summoning lightning bolts. According to the menu, he derived this sword from the Book of Itophat he carries around.
  • Dark Messiah: He sets himself up as the one who'll give the Earth to the Humanoids... after exterminating all humans. Oddly enough, the black-skinned monks encountered through the game seems to genuinely worship him as a god even if they're humans.
  • Enlightenment Superpower: According to Almana's entry, this divine form is not merely a straight MacGuffin induced power up, but a result of Ein following the teachings of the "Book of Itophat" and rigorous meditation.
  • Faux Affably Evil: He's always calm and composed in his interaction with Natoe and Cue, even when he's trying to destroy the former and assimilate the latter.
  • Feather Flechettes: As Almana, he can fire volleys of fiery feathers from his wing either as a fan barrage or as seeking projectiles.
  • Final Boss, New Dimension: As Almana, he's fought in a creepy red void with a black-hole like thing in the background called "Nihility".
  • Generic Doomsday Villain: Since the game introduces him later and doesn't actively explain much of him, he can come off as this.
  • Godhood Seeker: The red-robed monks actively worship him as a god, and his ultimate plan involves using the Sacred Child to attain divine powers.
  • Gratuitous Japanese: His incantations are in Japanese even in the English dub.
  • Light Is Not Good: He has white hair and pale skin, carries a bible-like book around and wears pristine clothes, but seeks to exterminate the humans.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: He reveals pretty soon that he's Cue's "brother" and soul mate.
  • Meaningful Name: Ein means "One", and not only he's the strongest Humanoid but he was the first as well.
  • Monster Progenitor: Extra data confirms that Ein was the first Humanoid, and the source of the Humanoid race.
  • One-Winged Angel: A literal description of his divine Almana transfomation: Ein turns into a floating marble-white humanoid with fiery hair, a single feathery wing, incomplete limbs and floating ribbons of light surrounding him.
  • Shock and Awe: During his boss fight he can summon lightning bolts to attack Natoe.
  • Sinister Scimitar: The Sword of Algathion resembles a refined cutlass with an unusual wide blade.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: He has pure white hair but is a monster who wishes to crush humanity.
  • Would Hurt a Child: His plans hinges on using the Sacred Child to fuel his transformation, wether she wants it or not.

    Zwei

Zwei

One of the lieutenants of the Humanoid army serving directly under Ein. Zwei is a gorgeous harpy-like woman with many avian features and four wings who seeks strong and handsome humans to make into her "pets", just like Natoe. She's served by three powerful human warriors.

  • The Baroness: Her human features are quite pretty and she often acts in a flirty way towards Natoe, planning to break him and make him into her latest slave pet, possibly not only as a fighter.
  • Cape Wings: When on the ground she uses her four voluminous wings to cover herself.
  • Dark Is Evil: She has a dark coloration and can manipulate dark purple energy, and she's one of the evil Humanoids.
  • The Dragon: She's the direct subordinate of Ein, though she secretly plans to backstab him.
  • Ear Wings: She has wings on the sides of her face as well.
  • "Get Back Here!" Boss: She spends half of her boss fight rush-kicking you and the other half flying above the arena, which makes the battle against her a test of patience.
  • Harping on About Harpies: Zwei is, essentially, a four-winged harpy with feather-like hair, talons and a tail.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: As she's performing some Evil Gloating on the fatally wounded Natoe, he pulls out Bishamonten and impales her in the chest and through her skull, killing her.
  • Lightning Bruiser: When hovering at ground level, she can make extremely fast dashing attacks with her talons, multiple times in a row. Mastering Just Guard or Just Step is mandatory to deal damage to her.
  • Made a Slave: She threatens to inflict this on Natoe and her three bodyguards are all humans she put under her control.
  • The Starscream: After Ein's defeat, she pulls a sneak attack on Natoe and Jodie, revealing that she was planning to take the Sacred Jewel for herself.
  • Villainesses Want Heroes: She becomes smitten with Natoe and plans to forcibly make him her pet.

    Drei

Drei

Voiced by: Bob Papenbrook

One of the lieutenants of the Humanoid army serving directly under Ein. Drei is a morbidly obese, amoral scientist who moves around in an hovering throne and serves his cause exclusively to pursue his twisted research.

  • Bad Boss: He doesn't seem to care too much about his creations, as White Fox and Zex can attest. Ends up biting him hard in the ass when his verbal abuse of Zex Ultimate costs him his life.
  • Bald of Evil: He's completely hairless and the most amoral and disgusting of the bad guys.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: He's first encountered in the sewers in Chapter 4 where he's collecting corpses for his research.
  • The Evil Genius: He's a scientist and it's implied he's behind most of the improvements and creations the heroes have to face. For sure he has modified Zex and is implied to have done the same to White Fox.
  • Fat Bastard: He's grotesquely obese, to the point that his hovering chair may as well be part of him.
  • For Science!: As mentioned in his bio, he doesn't really care about Ein's goals and methods as long as he's left free to experiment and carry out his twisted research at his leisure.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: He's beheaded and crushed to smithereens by Zex Ultimate, his pride and joy, after insulting him one time too many.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: When Zex Ultimate crushes his body to a pulp, his still-living head calmly but angrily points out that he's not programmed for disobedience and orders him to put his head back on his body.
  • Non-Action Guy: He's too out of shape for battle and prefers to let out his toys instead.
  • Robotic Reveal: When he's reduced to a head, the wound is filled with cables and lets out electrical surges, implying that Drei has a robotic body.
  • The Unfought: The player never fights Drei himself. Upon reaching the end of his lair, he sics the Mangler on Natoe, and is later crushed by Ultimate Zex.
  • Villain Takes an Interest: Seems interested in both Hinata and Natoe from a scientific point of view, and is delighted by the chances Natoe offers him to put his creations on trial.
  • We Can Rebuild Him: Improves Zex after the latter is defeated.

    Zex

Zex

Voiced by: Joe Romersa

One of Ein's servants, Zex is an enormous muscular brute with red hair an a sadistic disposition and violent character. He often fights against Natoe during the course of the game, being gradually "upgraded" by Drei.

  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: He's already pretty large on his own, but becomes even bigger first as "Beast" and later as "Ultimate", courtesy of his head being placed on top of a giant machine.
  • Ax-Crazy: According to his bio, Zex enjoys mutilating people with his bare hands, even if they're harmless civilians, which is why he's seen running after the villagers in the intro.
  • The Berserker: His first enhancement as Zex 1.5 is to make him more feral and aggressive. He goes even wilder as Zex Beast.
  • The Brute: The only thing going for him is sheer muscular brutality and eagerness to maim and shred. All of Ein's other minions are far smarter.
  • Chest Blaster: In his Ultimate form, his chest can release either a barrage of mortar-like shots or a single devastating ion beam.
  • Dumb Muscle: Zex's far from being a smart person, and his brains are never too far from "needless brutal murder".
  • Evil Redhead: Zex is the most brutish and feral Humanoid among the elites, and has spiky red hair to compliment his love for murder and mayhem.
  • Energy Weapon: In his Ultimate form, the maw on his chest can open and charge a devastating laser beam which can one-shot Natoe if he's caught between Zex's arms as he's charging the attack.
  • Humongous Mecha: His Ultimate form is a giant robot that can only be damaged after you strike both hands and deplete his Guard meter, allowing you to actually take them down.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: His arm alone is bigger than Natoe, but he's surprisingly easy to beat. He needs hi-tech surgery to keep up.
  • Nightmare Face: As Zex Beast, the modification gave him a more feral, monstrous visage which bares his teeth even more.
  • Numerical Theme Naming: His name may come from "Sechs", which means Six in German.
  • Off with His Head!: On the receiving end when Natoe finish off his Beast form. Too bad this doesn't stop Drei from putting his head on a colossal death machine.
  • One-Winged Angel: Three forms, one per boss fight, though he never transform during the battle but he's modified offscreen. First there's his "1.5" form... which is nigh-identical to his base form but has more attacks and health. Then there's his "Beast" form, where he has purple skin, bigger muscles, exposed teeth and can pop metal spikes out of his chest or back. Finally his severed head is attached to a giant legless robot with huge arms and a massive maw in the chest, called "Ultimate" form.
  • Recurring Boss: Zex is fought four times across the game, in different chapters.
  • Slasher Smile: Often sports a sadistic smirk as he's chasing his prey.
  • Spikes of Villainy: In his Beast form he can keep Natoe back by ejecting metal spikes from either the front or the back of his torso.
  • Pivotal Boss: In his Ultimate form, Zex is stuck in a hole in the middle of the ring-shaped plaza before the Cathedral, and Natoe has to run around him during combat.
  • Warm-Up Boss: Zex is the first boss and met pretty soon, but is easy to fight and can be Just-Stepped like nothing.

    White Fox

White Fox

Voiced by: None

One of Ein's cronies, White Fox is a Humanoid cyborg with canine looks likening him to his namesake animal. Fights against Natoe with a sword which allows him to become invisible.

  • Asian Fox Spirit: Invoked by his name and design, coupled with his ninja-like fighting style.
  • Cool Sword: Wields the "Lamentation Sword" note  which allows him to become invisible at will.
  • Giggling Villain: During his second confrontation with Natoe in the sewer's lift.
  • Gratuitous English: His name is actually "White Fox" even in the original Japanese.
  • Hollywood Cyborg: Implied to be a machine type Humanoid rather than a Humanoid with an odd armor.
  • Invisibility: During his second and third fights he can use his sword to become invisible for a while.
  • Oddly Shaped Sword: The Lamentation Sword has the hilt of a phirangi, sports a couple of horn-like prongs halfway through and the tip fans out in an arrowhead.
  • Recurring Boss: He's fought as a boss three times, first as he's going after the escaping villagers, then when Natoe goes in the sewers to follow the Agents.

    Weite, Klein and Lange

Weite, Klein and Lange

Voiced by: ???

Zwei's loyal slaves, they are all humans: Weite is the short knight-like member fighting with sword and shield, Klein is the giant with the dragon-shaped gauntlet and Lange is the levitating sorcerer with a ram's mask.

  • Animal Motifs: As reflected in their role and special equipment, Klein has Dragons, Weite has Lions and Lange has Rams.
  • Big, Thin, Short Trio: It's even reflected in their names, the Gratuitous German for Wide, Small and Long, though in this case, "Wide" is the Short and "Small" is the Big one.
  • Bling-Bling-BANG!: The special equipment they wear (Gauntlet, Shield and Helm) is seemingly made of gold and a personal gift bestowed by Zwei herself.
  • Evil Sorcerer: Lange can float, summon fire pillars to attack, use flying chakrams to hit from a distance and his ram mask may be a nod to the devilish goat.
  • Fighter, Mage, Thief: Klein is the slow but unstoppable Fighter, Lange is the long-distance but physically weak Mage capable of conjuring flames while Weite is the fast-moving but fragile Thief.
  • Fire-Breathing Weapon: Klein's Gauntlet, which can releases blasts of fire as he punches things or even breath a stream of fire as he's grabbing on an enemy.
  • Fragile Speedster: Weite is the fastest of the group and can attack swiftly, but chances are he'll be the first to bite the dust.
  • Ironic Name: As noted above, Weite (wide) is the short and scrawny one, while Klein (small) is the huge powerhouse.
  • Knightly Sword and Shield: Weite carries a lion-shaped shield and an arming sword called "Calaimn Solais" and is devoted to the protection of his lady Zwei.
  • Made a Slave: All three of them are actually humans who were enslaved and conditioned by Zwei into being her servants. It's unclear how much of their loyalty is genuine.
  • Playing with Fire: Klein's gauntlet can shoot flames and has a deadly grab attack where it "bites" on Natoe before breathing a stream of flames. When reduced to two fighters, Lange will start spawning fiery pillars from the ground.
  • Power Floats: Lange is constantly floating above the ground.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Their eyes shines red for a moment as they challenge Natoe.
  • Rings of Death: Lange's weapon of choice outside of magic.
  • Wolfpack Boss: You fight all three of them at once after completing several waves of enemy battles.
  • You Shall Not Pass!: They try to stop Natoe from reaching Zwei's position.

    Fen

Fen "the Executioner"

Voiced by: Christopher Carroll

Ein's right-hand man and personal disciple, possesses a healing factor so powerful he believes himself indestructible and longs for death in combat. Wields a colossal saw-like weapon named Mictian.

  • BFS: His weapon is enormous and he could easily hide himself behind it.
  • Blood Knight: He's enthralled by the prospect of battle, though mostly is because he hopes to find a warrior good enough to kill him for real.
  • Death Seeker: His powerful regeneration made him believe he was indestructible, and envies puny humans for their frailty and mortality. In the end, he wishes to "ascend to Nirvana" and find rest.
  • The Dragon: He's Ein's personal enforcer and disciple, who guards the first access to the Cathedral in the Forbidden Land.
  • Flash Step: He can move instantly from one spot to the other in spite of his humongous Mictian.
  • Graceful Loser: When he's finally cut down by Natoe, he's exalted for his impending death and keep his bargain with the samurai before letting himself fall from the platform they were fighting on.
  • Healing Factor: Fen's "indestructible body" is just an extremely potent regeneration factor which makes him think he cannot die. Since he doesn't like the thought of living forever and longs to experience death, he's not satisfied with this power. During his boss fight he will recover his health when he's not being attacked.
  • Hell-Bent for Leather: Wears a leathery outfit which includes Too Many Belts and a High Collar of Doom.
  • Noble Demon: He's serving someone who devoted himself to the genocide of humans, but he's not without a sense of honor and is willing to let Natoe pass if he can kill him in combat.

  • Spikes of Villainy: His outfit has sets of spikes on it.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: As the description of Mictian implies, Fen has no use for fancy moves or swordfighting skills. With a sword that big, all he has to do is to approach his enemy and crush him with a few powerful strikes.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: Downplayed, while he's amoral and kill-happy, he's also more noble and introspective than the other Humanoids.
  • Worthy Opponent: Thinks that Natoe's warrior skills are enough to slay him as he wishes.

Hinata

Voiced by: None

A cute rose-haired girl who's seemingly mute, she's with the villagers, but both Humanoids and Agent W seems to be interested in her...

Voiced by: Jamieson Price

A pale man impeccably dressed in a white suit, he's one of the City's Agents, and targets the group for some purpose...

  • Deadpan Snarker: When Natoe threatens to give him a beating, W snarks that he'd avoid that, since his white suit is expensive and difficult to keep clean.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: With the threat of Ein's rise to godhood coming closer and closer, W is more than happy to cease any plan involving Hinata and informs the heroes.
  • The Man Behind the Man: He's the one who sent the Bremen Gang after the heroes.

  • Pragmatic Villainy: He's supposed to get Hinata, the Sacred Child, back to the Steeple of Light, but when Eight pays with his eyes and the City appoints a new Sacred Child, W agrees to leave the villagers alone.

  • Beard of Evil: Fu-Manchu style moustache and long thin goattee? Perfect for his vaguely Chinese design.

  • Depraved Dwarf: One of the shortest characters who's a repulsive bastard willing to kidnap and murder a little girl.
  • Killed Off for Real: After being defeated by Natoe, he recovers enough to attempt one last charge on him and Tatsuma, only to be kicked from the platform and to his doom. Unlike White Fox and Zex, his death is confirmed because the player obtains Necryl's Enemy entry after defeating him.

  • Slasher Smile: Flashes a creepy smile at Natoe as he turns around to fight him.
  • Wolverine Claws: He has extremely long sleeves paired with large curved claws poking out of them. Given his vaguely Chinese looks, it may be a case of Stock Wushu Weapons.

  • The Leader: He's the boss of the Bremen gang, seeing them as his troupe of traveling entertainers. Natoe suggests him to at least kick the rapping brothers out.
  • Puzzle Boss: Epsilon cannot be damaged until you make the ventriloquist puppet by lowering his Guard meter, then attacking the puppet itself.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Epsilon dresses in a teal and pink pinstripe suit and a domino mask.
  • Soul Jar: The doll is where Epsilon put his soul, and must be attacked to damage him.

  • Bald of Evil: He's the leader of a mafia gang and is completely bald with gonkish facial attributes.

  • Dark Is Evil: They look like classical demons and are mostly black and gray in color.
