* FemmeFatale: Female Salandit can make males, Pokémon and humans alike, bend to her will. Salazzle are often seen with a reverse harem of male Salandit. She even punishes Salandit who fail to bring her food by slapping them with a flaming palm.

* UselessUsefulSpell: Its Corrosion ability. Being able to poison Poison and Steel-types is nice, but [[GlassCannon its stats]] mean it can't stall them long enough to incur much poison damage and is better off attacking foes directly. This ability also makes them vulnerable to be [[SuperpowerDisability poisoned by a Toxic Orb]], which otherwise will not affect Poison types without the ability.

** Popplio is a sea lion pup that creates poppable water pōpō (Hawaiian term for ball) and takes the Hawaiian monk seal's local name of "dog that runs in rough water" (ʻīlio-holo-i-ka-uaua) quite literally by [[AllAnimalsAreDogs acting like a literal puppy]], Brionne is an [[OurNymphsAreDifferent undine-like]] sea lion that performs with much ''brio'' (vivacity), and Primarina is a marine ballerina that can at times act like a prima donna.

* BulletSeed: Pikipek often attack by zipping seeds at opponents, and can do so with enough strength to embed the seeds in tree trunks. Toucannon can fire seeds with enough power to pulverize boulders. And yes, They do learn the TropeNamer attack.

* MindOverMatter: Pa'u style. It resembles a hula dancer. Its gentle, swaying dance increases its psychic energy, which it then fires at enemies.

* PlayingWithFire: Baile style. It resembles a flamenco dancer. It beats its wings to create fire and bathes opponents in flames with its dance.

* ShockAndAwe: Pom-Pom style. It resembles a cheerleader. It creates electric charges by rubbing its feathers and delivers them to enemies through shocking punches.

* BigCreepyCrawlies: Cutiefly is part-Bug, and while it may be a very small Pokémon, it's still much larger than the actual animal it's based on. Ribombee is even larger, though still small (being 8 inches tall (0.2 m) and weighing 1 pound (half a kilogram).

* UselessUsefulSpell:
** Its signature ability [[SuperScream Liquid Voice]], which changes all sound-based moves to Water-type moves, is this. Unlike similar abilities such as Galvanize or Aerilate that change a move's type, Liquid Voice does not power up the changed moves. The strongest sound-based move it can learn is Hyper Voice, a normal-type move with 90 Power, while its signature move, Sparkling Aria, has the exact same power and the same effect of hitting through Substitute. While Sparkling Aria still has the downside of potentially healing a burn, Primarina will still have its regular ability [[TurnsRed Torrent]] while having the same benefit Liquid Voice provides. Even if the user decides to forego Sparkling Aria for another Water-type move such as Hydro Pump, Surf, or Scald, Liquid Voice wouldn't be of any use.
** Subverted with Aqua Jet. Being dominantly special attackers, It may seem pointless to have them learn a physical Water-Type move [[ActionInitiative despite its increased priority]]. However, their physical attack, while nothing great, is still decent, and due to their [[MightyGlacier low speed]], having a move that automatically lets them go first can be pretty helpful.

* {{Nerf}}: Both Mareanie and Toxapex lost the ability to learn Knock Off and Scald in Gen IX when these moves return as [=TMs=] in the ''Teal Mask'' DLC when they previously could in Gen VII and Gen VIII, respectively.

* MakeMeWannaShout: Primarina's voice is described as its most powerful weapon, and the line gets plenty of sound moves such as Hyper Voice, Disarming Voice, and their SecretArt Sparkling Aria to back it up. Their hidden ability, Liquid Voice, makes all of their sound-based moves Water-type, therefore powering them up through STAB.

** Its signature ability [[MakeMeWannaShout Liquid Voice]], which changes all sound-based moves to Water-type moves, is this. * MakeMeWannaShout: Can learn Echoed Voice and Hyper Voice via level-up. It can also get Boomburst as an egg move if it's bred with a Noivern.

* PandaingToTheAudience: As a red panda, at least. Much like real-life ''giant'' pandas, it's a bad idea to pet them.

* {{Bishonen}}: A male Primarina can give off this vibe thanks to the species sporting feminine looks despite having a 7 to 1 male-to-female ratio.

* WildHair: Primarina's hair tends to come out of its pearl ties during certain moves such as Sparkling Aria, showing its hair to be ''very'' wild, almost like the tentacles of an octopus. No explanation is given as to how its hair gets tied back up when the move is finished, though, albeit its possible the "pearl" ties are actually unnaturally hard bubbles (like the ones that are on Arquanid's legs) and thus Primarina can use its voice to reform them from water.

* RecurringElement: The Alola Grass starter, and the third to be based on birds. Rowlet and Dartrix are the first starters to actually be Flying-types, but Decidueye ditches the Flying-type to match the flightless Blaziken and Empoleon.

* RatedMForManly: Incineroar could give Machamp a run for its money in this regard; it's a ferocious bipedal tiger with an extremely {{Top Heavy|Guy}} HeroicBuild and [[MoreTeethThanTheOsmondFamily lots of teeth]], that's also a boisterous {{heel}} wrestler.

* RatedMForManly: Mudsdale is a giant, stoic, dreadlocked draft horse that's covered in mud armor and can destroy cars and roads with its powerful kicks. It is also the only equine-esque Pokémon that has a "rugged" look to it.

* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: If your Rockruff has become uncharacteristically aggressive and begun to [[HowlingToTheNight howl at the setting sun]], it's probably about to evolve.

* HowlingToTheNight: Rockruff is said to howl every time the sun sets, particularly when it is close to evolving. Midnight Lycanroc's cry sounds like a howl.

Crabrawler is a land crab-like Fighting type Pokémon that is known for packing a massive wallop with its balled pincers. They have a pugnacious personality and love to fight one another over berries. They evolve into Crabominable, a ''literal'' Yeti Crab that is a Fighting/Ice type. They get this way by climbing to the highest point in the Alola region.

* LiteralMinded: Crabrawler love to aim for the top. Not just in social standing, but physically as well, since they love to climb up tall things. They even need to climb to the highest mountain peak to evolve into Crabominable.

Equine Ground-Types, Mudbray is a donkey that evolves into Mudsdale, a massive Clydesdale horse with dreadlocks. Mudbray used to be found all over the world, but excessive over-hunting brought them to the verge of extinction. Alola and Galar are the only places left where they can be caught in the wild. As it evolves, Mudsdale has a thick coating of mud cover its hooves, making it extremely heavy. These hooves also allow it to traverse rocky terrain, so people use it as a Poké-ride. It can either have Own Tempo or Stamina, which increases Defense whenever it is attacked.

* EndangeredSpecies: Mudbray used to be common all over the world, but wild ones now only survive in Alola and Galar.

* DefrostingIceQueen: Inverted! Bounsweet and Steenee are both cute and happy, while Tsareena is cold, regal and dominating.

%%zce* BlackEyesOfEvil: Both members of this line have blank black eyes.

* {{Dominatrix}}: Tsareena appears to be a [[ParentService G-rated]] take on this trope. She evolves from a Steenee that knows Stomp, also has Trop Kick, Punishment and [[WhipItGood Power Whip]] in her moveset, and has legs that are [[DressedLikeADominatrix reminiscent of thigh-high boots]]. The ''jo'' part of her Japanese name Amajo comes from the Japanese word for "queen", but is also used as slang for "dominatrix".

* WhipItGood: Tsareena can learn Power Whip by leveling up in ''Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon''.

* DistaffCounterpart: Primarina can be seen as a feminine counterpart to Samurott, despite the fact that they share a gender ratio; coincidentally, Samurott can be caught in Alola via Island Scan. Like Primarina, Samurott is partially based on a sea lion, and Primarina has very feminine TertiarySexualCharacteristics while Samurott has masculine ones (including prominent hair and headgear for both).
