[[Characters/LittleWitchAcademiaAtsukoKagari Akko Kagari]]
[[/index]]

* ACupAngst: One slightly subtle example as she shows up at the Cavendish family to try to talk Diana in coming back to Luna Nova. Diana gets her maid to put Akko in a fancy dress that she received from her mother when she was 11, noting how it's a bit too small for her now. When Akko puts the dress on, she notices that it fits her perfectly and is slightly annoyed by the connotations here.
* AccidentalPervert: Gender inverted. She accidentally grabs Andrew by the pants when they're in danger of falling, and is so embarrassed that she accuses him of thinking that she's a pervert when he makes it clear he doesn't.
* AcquiredPoisonImmunity: Downplayed. For Akko, [[ComedicSociopathy getting repeatedly poisoned]] by [[TokenEvilTeammate Sucy]] finally pays off when it allows her to briefly resist the bites of a couple of venomous snakes controlled by [[EvilAunt Lady Daryl Cavendish]], but she soon collapses and requires urgent medical attention.
* ActuallyPrettyFunny: She was initially at a loss when she saw the old-timey parody of her during a movie inside Sucy's mindscape. Eventually, though, she joined the Sucies in laughing.
* AdaptationalAngstUpgrade: In the series, Akko is far more depressed about her lack of skill in magic. While it was present in the short films, it was more of an annoyance, while also heavily implied to be due to her impatience. In the series, it's a plot point and something Akko works extremely hard at trying to overcome (once she realizes she's not in a LegacyOfTheChosen story and won't just become an InstantExpert through sheer belief). Furthermore, in the films, Shiny Chariot is an always out-of-reach ideal that Akko strives for, while in the series, [[spoiler:she does eventually learn she's Professor Ursula. Unfortunately, this revelation comes together with the knowledge that Chariot (unintentionally) using her shows to gather Dream Energy is part of the reason why she can't use magic well]]. She takes this [[HeroicBSOD about as well as can be expected]].
* AdaptationalNiceGuy: Downplayed. While Akko can still be insensitive in the TV series, it's considerably more toned down from how she was in the short films.
* AdaptationalWimp: In the short films, Akko [[CrisisMakesPerfect quickly develops her magical abilities while battling monsters]]. In the series, the writers are allowed to slow down the pacing. As a result, Akko's even more of a LoserProtagonist; her talents developing bit by bit, provided that she doesn't catch AesopAmnesia. [[spoiler:Her lack of ability is actually a major plot point.]]
* AesopAmnesia: Downplayed. While most of the morals she's taught over the course of the series tend to stick, when it comes to learning the value of patience, [[IgnoredAesop Akko seems to forget it by the end of the episode]], probably requiring more time to stick than others due to her {{Determinator}} nature.
* AllLovingHero: She is loyal to her friends, doing whatever she can to ensure their safety and/or happiness. In fact, Akko's love for magic stems from a personal belief that she can make people happy with it.
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Downplayed. While Akko has friendships in the form of Lotte, Sucy, Amanda, Jasminka, and Constanze, she is often ridiculed by Hannah and Barbara because of her lack of magic as well as being the laughingstock occasionally for her magical mishaps. And except for Ursula and Holbrooke, many of the teachers (especially Finneran) think of her as an incompetent student.
* AmbiguousDisorder: It's never stated in the series, but Akko shows a lot of classic signs of ADHD. She is hyperactive, has difficulty focusing on something for very long, is InnocentlyInsensitive, impulsive, and is prone to emotional outbursts.
* AmbiguouslyBi: While she does have ShipTease with Andrew, she also has some teasing with Diana as well and her reaction to her love confession under the influence of the Lovelove Bee in "Bee Affection" is near identical to Andrew's similar confession and prior to the chaos caused by Sucy releasing the bee, Akko talks about both of them in very similar ways. On top of this, she almost kisses Sucy in "Akko's Adventure in Sucyworld" in order to give her the medicine needed to wake her up, being more worried about taking Sucy's first kiss than the prospects of kissing another girl. However, Akko's sexuality has not been confirmed and given that the franchise's staff has been adamant about [[NoHuggingNoKissing not giving Akko a love interest]], it's most likely gonna stay that way.
* AmusingInjuries: It's a wonder Akko hasn't had a serious concussion by now: getting her head rammed into something hard is nearly a OnceAnEpisode event.
* AnimalMotifs: The same as her favorite ShapeShifter target — the mouse.
* ArmorPiercingQuestion: Akko gives one to Diana on where her loyalties lie.
* AscendedFangirl: Having grown up watching and idolizing Shiny Chariot, she now attends Luna Nova to become like her idol. There's also the fact that her main teacher and (in the TV series) personal mentor, Professor Ursula, is ''actually'' Shiny Chariot herself.
* AshFace: She causes a big ass explosion during her fundamental alchemy exam, destroying a window, a part of the wall around the window, and giving her an unwanted makeover.
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: She has a habit of not really paying attention when others talk. This also presents itself in an ItsAllAboutMe fashion as unless it's about how she can learn some magic spell or Shiny Chariot, she probably already stopped listening to a while ago. Even then, she will probably only pay attention for a short time.
* AudienceSurrogate: She's from a muggle lineage and often has to have magical concepts explained to her (just as they're being explained to the audience).
* BadassAdorable: Cute design? check! Badass Witch? Check! Powerful weapons? Check!
* BalefulPolymorph: Frequently turns into animals unintentionally due to her botching transformation magic; notably, she’s stuck as a mouse for most of “Amanda O’Neill and the Holy Grail.”
* BatmanCanBreatheInSpace: She gets a GoldenSuperMode in the final battle that allows her to breathe in space with Diana by her side who has the same SuperMode similar to [[Anime/KillLaKill Ryuko in "Past The Infinite Darkness"]].
* BeautyIsNeverTarnished: Subverted. She's got some scrapes to show from her rampant clumsiness as a little child.
* BerserkButton: She gets angry and argues back to the point of being irrational whenever somebody talks negatively about her idol, Shiny Chariot.
* BlitheSpirit: A muggle who changes the lives of multiple witches by attending a magic academy.
* BlondeBrunetteRedhead: The brunette to Sucy's blonde and Lotte's redhead.
* BookDumb: While she finds the Luna Nova classes boring and often falls asleep in them, she's proven to be quite clever, innovative, and creative.
* BrattyTeenageDaughter: Downplayed. Akko isn’t completely bratty and is normally a NiceGirl most of the time, but she can be short tempered, lazy, rude, childish, entitled and selfish at times and is frequently seen as a childish and irresponsible troublemaker by several characters early on (especially by Sucy and Diana). [[CharacterDevelopment She slowly grows out of this and becomes a bit more mature]] over the course of the series.
* BreakTheCutie: "Things We Said Today" is a huge one for her after learning [[spoiler:Chariot took away her magic during the time she was at her show.]]
* BreakTheHaughty: Downplayed. While Akko was never ''haughty'' per-se, she did have a tendency to overestimate her actual abilities and didn't put much hard work into her studies early on, thinking she didn't need to. However, after learning that there are no shortcuts to becoming good in "The Fountain" and her failed attempt to cheat had nearly led to her getting expelled in "Orange Submariner", this attitude of hers quickly changes and by the end of the first cour, Akko is much more hard-working and better aware of her weaknesses then she was early on.
* BrokenPedestal: [[spoiler:Her idolization of Chariot becomes shattered when she learns that Chariot stole her magic during her childhood for her own use.]]
* ButForMeItWasTuesday: She generally doesn't dwell on many of her adventures, nor does she really seem to care about the consequences they bring. Case in point: she has a ''long'' track record of reckless behavior as pointed out by the Dean, but she talks about them casually as if those were natural occurrences.
* ButtMonkey: Hardly an episode goes by where Akko doesn't receive an amusing injury of some kind, and that's not counting the multiple times her attempts at magic either fail, or [[EpicFail blow up in her face]].
* CatchPhrase:
** In the Japanese version, Akko is quite fond of exclaiming "Yay!" in English. In the English dub, it's "Alright!"
** "''Doki doki no waku waku''" in most episode previews; it means "It's so thrilling and exciting!" If it's missing, the episode is extremely serious.
* CelibateHero: Downplayed. Akko is implied at least once to harbor feelings for Andrew and shares a decent amount of ShipTease with him, [[AmbiguouslyBi Diana and Sucy]]. That said, in spite of this, in ''Chamber of Time'', she shows little interest in the topic of romance when brought up and openly admits to at least one student to have never fallen in love with anyone when asked the question. WordOfGod has also stated in the ''[[AllThereInTheManual Little Witch Academia: Chronicle]]'' book that she is the type of girl to not be interested in guys at all. [[invoked]]
* CharacterDevelopment: By "The Fountain", she has realized there are no magical shortcuts to accomplish her goals and she has to put the work in and earn it. The following episode shows that she's taken it to heart and starts dedicating herself to her studies, though she continues to struggle to catch up to her classmates. By "Bee Affection", she's able to perform the Metamorphosis spell well enough to make a kaiju squirrel, as well as not screw up her part in the Cinderella-kit ritual. And by the end of the series, Akko can not only perform the Metamorphosis spell near flawlessly and shapeshfit into various animals on a dime, but [[spoiler: she can also fly]].
* TheChosenOne: Her determination and courage summons the Shiny Rod in the TV show and she's the one that starts reviving the Seven Enchanted Words with the rod, hinting that she's been specifically chosen for this job.
* ClassicalAntiHero: The main protagonist who is a repeated ButtMonkey with low self-esteem and has to ''really'' work at mastering magic.
* ControlFreak: During the Happy Time Project in ''The Enchanted Parade'', as she constantly pushes her ideas forward and eggs on her colleagues into giving her the things she wants for the project. It's only after she messes with her friends up and cooperates with her fellow teammates does anything go according to plan.
* CrushBlush: She blushes quite a bit when her possible love interest Andrew is under the influence of the Lovelove Bee and also when Sucy and Lotte tease her about her crush on Andrew near the end of "Bee Affection".
* CryCute: Is prone to crying in a cute way.
* DangerouslyShortSkirt: She pretty much wears the shortest skirt in the school.
* {{Determinator}}: Akko is determined to be a great witch like Shiny Chariot, even though she's not from a wizarding family and lacks basic skills that all witches should have, not to mention that Shiny Chariot isn't viewed favorably in the wizarding community:
** At the end of the first film, her faith in Shiny Chariot allows her to defeat the dragon by using the Shiny Rod just like Chariot did in her stage shows.
** In ''The Enchanted Parade'', after Sucy and Lotte leave the Happy Time Project, she decides to try planning out the witch parade herself, involving choreography, the float design and even doing enough research to make at least four tall stacks.
** In the TV series, her determination is the thing that seems to summon the Shiny Rod. Even with a giant cockatrice after them, having to carry Lotte and Sucy not even bothering to help, she refuses to give up in getting into Luna Nova.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: Her status as the determinator has her assuming she can achieve whatever she wants to and be just like her hero while putting in no actual effort to study or research what she's getting into. Subverted as she generally manages to achieve or come close to achieving her goals with just pure determination.
* TheDogBitesBack: After being harshly derided and berated by Diana throughout the first cour, "New Age Magic" has Akko bite right back at Diana and actually [[NotSoStoic break her usually stoic demeanor]] by berating her blind and callous attitude and lack of understanding towards the suffering of others that are less privileged than her.
* DullEyesOfUnhappiness: [[spoiler: Akko's eyes become this in "Yesterday" after finding out that Chariot drained her magic and is the reason why she's an IneptMage. Her eyes eventually reverted back to normal thanks to her heart-to-heart with Diana.]]
* EasilyForgiven: [[spoiler: Akko forgives Chariot for stealing her magic and thanks her for the support and lessons she has given by offering her another chance to redeem herself.]]
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Excitedly arriving at the town close to Luna Nova...and having no idea how to get there, which establishes her as bubbly, energetic, and clueless.
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer:
** In "Akko's Adventure in Sucyworld", it is implied that Sucy might have a crush on her.
** In "Bee Affection", Diana becomes infatuated with her from a [[LovePotion Lovelove Bee]], and she becomes quite fond of her by "Intellect and Sensibility".
* FailureMontage: The series often shows a collection of scenes of Akko failing at whatever (usually magical) task she's supposed to be doing.
* FanGirl: Akko is a major one towards Shiny Chariot, who she frequently gushes about and is her main inspiration for wanting to become a witch in the first place, much to the disapproval of her classmates (particularly Diana). Unsurprisingly, it's due to her blind idolization of her that one of her {{Berserk Button}}s is insulting Chariot in front of her and it's [[spoiler: [[BrokenPedestal why she takes it so hard after learning that Chariot stole her magic at the very show that made her a fan in the first place]]]].
* FearlessFool: One of her biggest flaws. Akko is incredibly determined and fearless, which combined with her impulsive and reckless nature, leads her to frequently jump into situations quite recklessly and foolishly without thiking of the consequences. Sometimes this does work out in her favor, while other times it does not.
* FieryRedhead: Downplayed. Akko has maroon (brownish-crimson) hair, but has ''energy''.
* FlightIsTheFinalPower: While Akko does develop her magic steadily as the series goes on, it's only by the end that she [[spoiler:finally develops the ability to finally fly a broom]].
* ForeignExchangeStudent: A girl from Japan who attends the witch academy Luna Nova which is based in Britain.
* GenerationXerox: Akko and Diana's relationship, dynamic, and school performance heavily mirrors what Chariot and Croix once had in their Luna Nova days. For the final episode, both are even outfitted with the same white {{Custom Uniform}}s their predecessors often wore in the past.
* GenkiGirl: Doesn't take a lot for her to bounce back.
* GirlyGirlWithATomboyStreak: Akko is largely feminine for the most part, but she has an incredibly fiery personality, is quite athletic and has no qualms about getting messy, even being proud of the scars she received over the years. She is also a bit unmannered and rude at times as well.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: She has faded scars on her ankle, knee, and elbow from injuring herself when she was little from trying to learn how to fly from a tree, hill, and roof, respectively. Each time, she fell and got banged up really badly. She's rather proud of them, as she actually treats them like they are battle scars.
* GorgeousGarmentGeneration: In ''The Enchanted Parade'', as she charges up to defeat the rock monster, her outfit (along with Lotte and Sucy's) turns into a variant of Shiny Chariot's white garments. During '' Bee Affection'', she gets the Cinderella treatment from an antique shop item, and it produces a pink ball gown.
* GreenEyedMonster: One of the major reasons why Akko disliked Diana so heavily at first was out of envy towards the noble’s greater skill and popularity compared to her. She does come to terms with it somewhat by the end of "What You Will", sadly accepting that she’ll never be on par with Diana and learning to not compare herself to her. She also shows some envy towards Andrew’s popularity a couple of times as well, though not to the same extent.
* HandicappedBadass: [[spoiler:Chariot's show stunted her magic, and is the cause of her being an IneptMage. She still manages to make do]].
* HasAType: The little bit of ShipTease Akko has with people seem to point that she likes strong willed aristocratic types with a HiddenHeartOfGold. [[AmbiguouslyBi Diana and Andrew]] both fill that role for her.
* HeartIsAnAwesomePower: [[spoiler: While so many people scoff at it, Akko's passion is ultimately the reason how the Grand Triskellion is finally unlocked and saved the world. Even before that, it's that exact passion is why Akko presses on after she learned that Chariot stole her magic.]]
---> '''Diana:''' I believe in your believing heart.
* HeightAngst: Akko is shocked to hear that the dress Diana let her borrow is something Diana last wore as a ''eleven-year-old'', but begrudgingly admits it fits her perfectly.
* TheHero: The central character who goes to a magical school to follow in the footsteps of her idol to make people happy with magic.
* HeroicBSOD: Hits this after TheReveal that [[spoiler:Chariot is part of the reason she cannot do magic as her ability was severely limited as a result of when she attended Chariot's show]]. She spends the rest of the day sitting still on a bench under the snow.
* HeroicSecondWind: Heartbroken after learning the revelation that [[spoiler:her idol stole her magic, Akko regains the will to stay in Luna Nova and continue her studies after Diana acknowledges her beliefs and her friends came to her aid when she needs it most.]]
* HiddenDepths:
** Akko is able to understand fish language (which is considered a very difficult animal language) without having to transform into a merman within the span of a day. Also, while it's easy to miss with TranslationConvention in effect, the Japanese Akko must be fluent in English, and possibly other languages; She has no issue interacting with the multinational classmates of her British boarding school (or even the citizens outside of it), nor any special trouble reading and writing in English. She may have a knack for picking up languages.
** While Akko comes off as being very confident about herself, it's heavily implied in several episodes that she is more insecure than she lets on, as she constantly compares herself to more skilled witches like Diana and Chariot, lamenting about her lack of talent and/or skills in comparsion. A line she states in "Bee Affection" also implies she's insecure about her looks, which is implied again after finding out that the dress she wore in "Cavendish" was one Diana wore at eleven years old.
** As mentioned above, Akko may be below average with academics and magic, but she has proven to be quick-thinking, innovative, and creative, which has saved her and her friends from many sticky situations.
** She also has a genuine talent for showmanship and entertainment, just like her idol.
** If Diana's reaction to Akko’s plum seaweed tea at the end of chapter 5 in Keisuke Satō's manga is any indication, than Akko is likely pretty good at making tea. Ironically, as the game later reveals, Akko doesn’t actually care much for tea.
** In the light novel, Akko notices that Stone Doras looks like a torii, which she briefly attempts to explain what it is to a confused Lotte and Sucy (that it is a traditional Japanese gate to Shinto shrines where the gods are worshipped), which only confuses them more. Although the scene is brief and largely humorous in nature, the fact that she knows what a torii is does imply that she is knowledgeable on her country's culture.
* IdiotHero: She's a klutz and a troublemaker, and can barely use magic. But when the situation calls for it, she doesn't hesitate to put her life on the line for her friends and her determination invariably saves the day.
* IndyPloy: Downplayed. Akko usually starts off with a foundational plan but will change things or make things up on the go if it suits the situation.
* InelegantBlubbering: She does this after she and her friends [[spoiler:cure Vajarois the Grieving of her chronic sadness]] at the magic-themed SchoolFestival. PlayedForLaughs, since they're TearsOfJoy. The announcer comes over to interview her while she's still wailing uncontrollably.
* IneptMage: As a muggle, she has no real background in magic and no parents or relatives to teach her properly. This shows up prominently at Luna Nova, where she can't cast spells properly or even ride a broom. This was chalked up to initially not taking her studies seriously. However, even after she starts putting in the work, she's still noticeable having much more difficulty than the average student, with transformation magic being pretty much the only thing she's gotten down. [[spoiler:The reason is actually far more tragic]]. However, [[spoiler:the very end of the series seems to indicate she's recovering. One of the show's last shots is her finally flying her broom for the first time.]]
* InSeriesNickname: She prefers to go by "Akko". Her actual given name of "Atsuko" is almost never mentioned.
* ItsAllAboutMe:
** Her biggest issue with Fafnir stealing the Sorcerer's Stone initially is only that it was done while she was still in school, and therefore an inconvenience to ''her'' learning magic (even though she is called out repeatedly for not keeping up in class).
** Subverted in "New Age Magic". Akko's original intention in talking the faeries out of their strike was so she doesn't have to deal with having to study magic through massive books. However, upon hearing them out amd their reasons for striking, she ends up empathizing with them and ultimately joins their cause, becoming their spokesperson.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Downplayed. She genuinely means well and is a reasonably nice person most of the time, but she has a frequent tendency to place her own feelings above those of her friends and not even consider that what she's doing is wrong or potentially dangerous. It comes to a head in ''The Enchanted Parade'' when she takes things too far and both Lotte and Sucy end up briefly abandoning her as a friend, after they've decided that they've had enough of her crap. This was [[AdaptationalNiceGuy toned down in the series]], but she still has her moments of selfishness and carelessness at points.
* JerkassHasAPoint: In ''The Enchanted Parade'', As much of an insensitive {{Jerkass}} Akko was about it, she is right that Lotte should have spoken up about her feelings instead of bottling them up and being quiet about it, which Lotte does acknowledge, before [[BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor she does exactly that]].
* JerkassRealization:
** In ''The Enchanted Parade'', Lotte starts giving Akko the cold shoulder for accidentally ripping her family's music sheet while trying to use it for their parade without permission. When Sucy suggests that she's been bottling up her feelings due to [[ExtremeDoormat being pushed around by Akko all the time]], Akko remarks why Lotte can't be forward with her feelings instead of acting gloomy and depressing all the time. Unfortunately, Lotte is standing right behind her when she says this, so she [[BrutalHonesty bluntly]] states that she thinks Akko's ideas for the parade will fail and that she wants no part in it, leaving Akko to desperately try to take back her words. [[spoiler:When Lotte changes her mind and returns for a BigDamnHeroes moment to deliver a hand-made replica of the hat worn by Shiny Chariot, Akko's inspiration for the parade and becoming a witch in general, Akko gives her a big, tearful hug and apology for being such an insensitive jerk.]]
** After she found out about the [[spoiler: death of her parents]] through Anna in "Cavendish", Akko quickly begins to regret and feel guilt over some of her past behavior towards Diana.
* KarmicJackpot:
** Her decision in defending the Faeries' strike earned her the creatures' friendships. So much so, that she and her roommates are spared when the Faeries' rampage against the Witches.
** Her commitment to her friends and Shiny Chariot is what ultimately allowed her full access to the Grand Triskellion's real power.
* KnownOnlyByTheirNickname: Pretty much everyone just calls her Akko, and she frequently introduces herself like that.
* LeeroyJenkins: She's extremely stubborn and impatient, and as a result often runs headlong into a situation without really considering the consequences. This is toned down as she undergoes CharacterDevelopment.
* MageBornOfMuggles: Akko comes from a non-magical family, which contributes to her [[IneptMage ineptitude in magic]] so much that she can't even fly a broom properly.
* MagneticHero: Due to Akko's genuine kindness that so many people including her idol are absolutely loyal to her.
* MasterOfOneMagic: Despite being an IneptMage who can't even fly a broom on her own power [[spoiler:(until the end anyway)]], she becomes surprisingly adept at the series' resident Polymorph spell (to the point of easily switching between multiple forms on the fly by episode 20).
* TheMcCoy: To Lotte's [[TheKirk Kirk]] and Sucy's [[TheSpock Spock]].
* MeaningfulName: Depending on the writing, her given name can have various meanings, such as "warm child" (温子?) or "passion/heat child" (熱子?), both which fit her personality.
* {{Mukokuseki}}: In contrast to the European characters, who mostly have narrow and angular eyes, the Japanese Akko has very wide and round {{Moe}} eyes, making her the ''least'' Asian-looking character by comparison. [[invoked]]
* MythicalMotifs: Subtle example, but she's given the phoenix motif -- she was able to ride a self-flying broom that is shaped like a phoenix and one of her transformations in the second opening resembles the magical bird.
* NaiveNewcomer: Especially in the anime, she joins Luna Nova and the witches' world as a muggle with not much knowledge on magic nor the school she's joining.
* NewTransferStudent: She is one of the new people in Luna Nova.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: When she rips up Lotte's ancestral sheet music, she upsets Lotte so much that she leaves the project. After arguing with Sucy, she causes her to leave the Happy Time Project as well.
* NiceMeanAndInBetween: Amongst the main trio, she’s in-between Lotte and Sucy. She’s an energetic NiceGirl who cares deeply about her friends, but at the same time, she is prone to being quick-tempered, childish, selfish, lazy and a bit of a troublemaker.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: Being a GenkiGirl, Akko often gets very huggy with people she likes, and she once even manages to catch Diana off guard.
* NotInThisForYourRevolution: Akko fully admits to Ursula in Episode 21 that she doesn't actually care much about the quest for the seven words in the first place and that she's only collecting the words in the first place in order to finally meet Shiny Chariot.
* NotQuiteBackToNormal: In "Orange Submariner" of the series, she at first wasn't able to speak the fish language, but after turning herself into a humanoid fish and then being transformed back she retained the ability to speak to fishes.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: The usually slack Akko begins weirding out her friends by ''studying hard'' and ''paying attention in class'' in "Orange Submariner", since this is her new motivation following the events in previous episodes. It slowly becomes CharacterDevelopment, as she's shown diligently working hard more often, such as with her tutoring sessions with Professor Ursula and reading about the Words.
* {{Omniglot}}: She starts off fluent in her native Japanese and in English. She later gains a full understanding of fish language while studying in Luna Nova.
* PlatonicLifePartners: After the creator of the series [[ShipSinking shot down any plans of her and Andrew getting together]], WordOfGod compared their relationship to "a playful [[OneOfTheGuys guy-guy relationship]]." [[invoked]]
* RageBreakingPoint:
** In "Orange Submariner", After finding out that she might leave Luna Nova through Diana’s fortune and then once again getting mocked by Hannah and Barbara, as well as getting tripped by them intentionally afterward, Akko simply loses it and actually gets into a physical fistfight with the two bullies in a fit of rage.
** In Episode 21, Akko yells at Ursula when she sees that the latter is seemingly more interested in claiming the Grand Triskellion than her student's well-being.
* RebuiltPedestal: With a little pep-talk from Diana, Akko is able to reconcile with Ursula and restore Chariot's spot as her idol.
* RedOniBlueOni: Passionate and reckless Red to Diana's collected and rational Blue. Bonus points [[ColorCodedCharacters for sporting the matching colors]].
* RepeatWhatYouJustSaid: She's utterly surprised that Diana would ever say "thank you" to her, so Akko asks Diana to repeat it. Diana vehemently refuses, even as Akko keeps digging into her.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: Akko's transformation spells are noted to be more on the cute cartoonish side, rather than looking realistic like everyone else's.
* TheRival: As Diana is the top student in Luna Nova with a slightly haughty attitude towards the BookDumb Akko, Akko sees Diana as a rival and feels the need to compete with her.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: Upon learning that Daryl and her daughters has sabotaged Diana's trials, Akko forces her way in to save her classmate.
* SecretTestOfCharacter: At the end of "Blue Moon", she's given the choice of jumping right into her future as a witch similar to Shiny Chariot at the cost of forgetting her past. Akko rejects the offer, saying her friends and mistakes are also important.
* {{Shapeshifter}}: By "Samhain Magic Festival", and as shown in the second [=OP=] and [=ED=] songs, transforming into animals (albeit cartoonish ones that are considered "crappy" in contrast to other witches' more realistic transformations) has become Akko's specialization.
* ShoutOut: Her name (both her full name ''and'' her nickname) references Atsuko "Akko" Kagami from ''Manga/HimitsuNoAkkoChan'', one of the earliest {{Magical Girl}}s.
* SignatureMove: Once she finally gets the hang of using it, she tends to use the spell "Metamorphie Fasciesce" (a transformation spell) to solve just about every problem. When doing so, her favorite form to take is a rat.
* SmallNameBigEgo: Has a tendency to over-inflate her ([[IneptMage practically non-existent]]) abilities when she sets her mind to being just like Chariot, especially when she assumes that that alone is enough. To her credit, that alone is enough...most of the time. Her abilities are shown to be pretty strong in "Bee Affection" though.
* SpeaksFluentAnimal: She's fluent in fish, and perfectly understands Professor Pisces when she speaks at the end of that particular episode.
* StanceSystem: Later on in the series, during a battle against some giant snakes, she switches between various animals depending on the situation (like turning into an elephant when her mouse form was about to get eaten, or turn into a tortoise when she needed defense).
* StockShonenHero: Gender Inverted. She's loud, [[HotBlooded very impulsive]], [[BigEater eats a lot]], [[ButtMonkey most of her misfortunes are played for laughs]], wants to be a witch to follow her idol's footsteps, [[BookDumb is not very knowledgeable]], and makes up for her lack of smarts and talent by [[{{Determinator}} sheer determination]]. [[spoiler:Both her childhood dream and lack of talent take a tragic turn when a certain event of her and her idol's past is revealed.]]
* StrawmanHasAPoint: [[invoked]] While Akko admits that she's prolonging the strike that will affect everyone, she feels that it's just as bad to take advantage of the workers who had it worse than the witches. She's actually not wrong and her friends acknowledge that. So far, all the Witches have been doing is delaying the problem and have no real means to permanently solve it. Even if Croix had to manipulate the conflict, it exposes the Witches's incompetence and ultimately, Akko is right.
* SuperiorSuccessor: Diana admits to Akko that she holds the spirit and ideals of Shiny Chariot far better than anyone else, even Chariot herself. She also manages to collect all the seven words and therefore [[spoiler:restore magic to the world]], which Chariot failed to do when she was chosen to do the quest.
* SuperMode: In the final battle, she gets a silver colored outfit that protects her from the vacuum of space and when combined with the power of the Shiny Rod is [[DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu able to defeat]] a [[NukeEm magically enhanced nuke]].
* TaughtByExperience: Sucy claims Akko to be the type who learns more from experience as opposed to traditional schooling in ''Chamber of Time''. She isn’t wrong.
* TheTeamNormal: The only one out of the main trio born from both muggle parents. [[spoiler:Turned into a plot point later in the series, where it's revealed her magical potential was severely limited by attending Chariot's show, bringing her even further down to normal. This limited potential and her initial laziness in putting the work in and studying is why she's still this.]]
* TearsOfJoy: In ''The Enchanted Parade'', she does this when Lotte gives her a handmade witch's hat modeled after Shiny Chariot's during the witch parade.
* ThisLoserIsYou: [[invoked]] According to [[WordOfGod Yoh Yoshinari]], [[https://wavemotioncannon.com/2017/01/03/yoh-yoshinari-interview-animestyle-032013-part-33/ Akko was created to represent wannabe animators]] who think [[IgnorantOfTheirOwnIgnorance raw passion can make up for an utter lack of technique]]. That was the concept behind her first appearance in the films; however, the series proper went in a different direction as to the reason behind her lack of talent than just the Dunning-Kruger Effect. In either case, though, the ultimate message is that it takes hard work, in addition to passion, to realize your dreams.
* TookALevelInBadass: She has very little magic at the start making her pretty weak due to [[spoiler:Shiny Chariot draining her magic]] but her accessing the full power of the Shiny Rod is able to allow her to get it all back and [[spoiler:she's able to one-shot an Eldritch Abomination made up of an entire country's negative emotional energy]]. Also in the final episode, [[spoiler:Akko is finally able to fly.]]
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Pickled plums are shown to be a favorite snack of her's and is frequently shown with it across the franchise, even describing it as "everything nice" in Pact of the Dragon". In fact, it was her carrying it with her that caused her, Lotte and Sucy to land in Arcturus Forest in "Starting Over".
* TragicDream: She wants nothing more than to be a witch so that she can use magic to [[ForHappiness spread joy to everyone]], just like her idol, Shiny Chariot. [[spoiler:In a cruel twist, the performance that inspired her so much was only possible because Chariot siphoned off the magical potential of the audience members, including Akko herself, putting her severely behind the curve when she actually enrolls at Luna Nova. If she hadn't gone to that fateful show, she wouldn't have had nearly as much trouble with magic, but she also never would have discovered her interest in it in the first place. Fortunately, the finale suggests that she can make her dream happen eventually — it'll just be a much longer and more difficult road than expected.]]
* {{Tsundere}}: Type-B. Akko is a kind and caring girl. However, besides being an occassional {{Jerkass}}, she is quite quick-tempered in general and has a tendency to start up fights if provoked.
* UndyingLoyalty:
** To Professor Ursula and Chariot, expressing her love and admiration for both, both before and after she learns that [[spoiler:they're one and the same, and after she hears what Chariot unwittingly did to her. This is, of course, after some healthy dejected crying, introspection, and the encouragement of her classmates.]]
** To her classmates, as she understands that by attending Luna Nova, they're effectively pursuing the same dream together. She will not abide to anyone leaving while she can do anything about it.
* UnskilledButStrong: Diana states that her magic can easily be stronger than hers with enough passion but she is considered an idiot with no finesse. [[spoiler:The reality is actually quite different in the TV series.]]
* UnsympatheticComedyProtagonist: Treated more sympathetically than most, but still qualifies due to creating most of the problems she faces.
* UnwantedAssistance: To Constanze in "Stanship Take Off!" when it comes to building a weapon for TheWildHunt... at first, until Constanze realizes that Akko's stubbornness and willingness to interact with people come in handy.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Develops a few squabbling yet genuine friendships with a few girls:
** She is constantly the guinea pig of Sucy's experiments and doesn't handle her sarcasm well, but the two do care for each other (most evident when Akko goes through a lot of effort to save Sucy in her dreams, and it's shown Sucy cherishes her first meeting with Akko and is willing to back her up if the situation calls for it, i.e. the Samhain Festival).
** She bickers with Amanda quite a bit in the series but they nevertheless enjoy their company and consider Luna Nova boring without each other.
** Once she and Diana are able to set aside their differences and admit their respect for each others' strengths, their bickering becomes more playful.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: The one magical discipline that Akko develops an actual talent for is the spell ''Metamorphie Fasciesce'', which lets her transform into various animals.
* WeakButSkilled: Unlike in the films, Akko in the TV series is actually much weaker than her peers [[spoiler:thanks to Chariot unknowingly [[HandicappedBadass draining her magical potential]] as a child]], leaving her to rely more on clever and unorthodox usage of her magic. [[BrilliantButLazy That she's incredibly lazy and just expects to be good at things without wanting to put the effort in at first]] is also a hindrance until she finally starts putting the work in.
* WhatTheHellHero: Both Lotte and Sucy call her out on her control freak tendencies after Akko accidentally rips the sheet music for Lotte's ancestral song in the movie. She admits her mess up and apologizes at the end.

to:

* ACupAngst: One slightly subtle example as she shows up at the Cavendish family to try to talk Diana in coming back to Luna Nova. Diana gets ->[[Characters/LittleWitchAcademiaAtsukoKagari See her maid to put Akko in a fancy dress that she received from her mother when she was 11, noting how it's a bit too small page for her now.
* AdaptationalAngstUpgrade: In the series, Akko is far
more depressed about her lack of skill in magic.
* CatchPhrase:
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer:
* HiddenDepths:
* ItsAllAboutMe:
* JerkassRealization:
* KarmicJackpot:
* RageBreakingPoint:
* UndyingLoyalty:

* AdaptationalJerkass: While they were jerks in the films, they merely served as Diana's GirlPosse in them and simply reinforced her own bullying and not much else. In the TV Series however, they're much more active in bullying and antagonizing Akko than in the films and have even gotten into a physical fight with her at one point (which granted, Akko started, but it was their bullying that provoked her into starting it, so they're not exactly blameless for it either).

** To Akko, as both were trouble-prone during their tenure at Luna Nova. They both even visited the Fountain of Polaris, hoping to get a short cut to their true potential, and ultimately realize the only way there is to actually work hard for it.

This is a hypocritical salt rubbing, however, as Croix was the one who invented that magic and didn't tell Chariot about the side effects until after she used it once.

A muggle who is the best friend of Andrew Hanbridge. In contrast to Andrew, Frank is a lighthearted freidnly man who admires magic and witches a ton.

* MuggleWithADegreeInMagic: Downplayed. While he's a muggle and isn't implied to be an expert by all means, he's shown to have a keen interest in witchcraft the other muggles lack and is implied to have a bit of knowledge about the magical world (such as knowing they have their own version of [[TheAlternet the internet]]).

The son of the Minsiter of Defense, Louis is a arrogant and sinister man who hates witches just as much as his father does.

to:

* DefeatMeansFriendship: Upon getting defeated and than rescued by Amanda, he gains a newfound appreciation for witches and renounces his bigotry for them.
* FantasticRacism: Like his father, Louis is shown to have a prejduiced view against witches, even threatening to execute Amanda and Akko upon finding them out. Fortunately, he changes his ways after Amanda defeats and saves him.
* {{Foil}}: The Keisuke Satō manga reveals him to be one to Andrew. Both are famous young men whose fathers are against magic and witchcraft, on top of despising it themselves, until changing their minds later on, however whereas Andrew merely finds magic to be outdated and silly, Louis is outright bigoted against witches and actively goes of his way to execute Amanda and Akko upon seeing them. Also, whereas Andrew gradually learns to appreciate magic thanks to Akko, Louis doesn't change his mind until after he quickly gets defeated and rescued by Amanda.
* HeelFaceTurn: Upon getting rescued by Amanda, Louis quickly realizes how wrong he was about witches and renounces his former ways.
* SoreLoser: Upon intially getting defeated by Amanda, Louis, unwilling to accept losing to a witch, refuses to live up to his end of the bargain and breaks the grail anyway, even though he said he'll give it to them if he loses.

* GirlyGirlWithATomboyStreak: Akko is largely feminine for the most part, but she has an incredibly fiery personality, is quite athletic and has no qualms about getting rough and dirtied up, even being proud of the scars she received from constantly injuring herself.

* AdaptationalJerkass: Sucy is much more [[WithFriendsLikeThese cruel toward and exploitative]] to Akko and Lotte in the anime, even using them as a sacrifice for a gigantic deadly monster. Though in the manga prequel for the films, Sucy was pretty mean to Akko when they first met, including telling her to go pull a deadly mandrake out of a pot.[[note]]In this setting, the mandragora scream would only kill muggles. Magicals are "just" injured by the scream, which also seems to have only an effect on the one pulling out the plant. It also may have helped, that the mandragora Sucy was having on her shelf was only a baby.[[/note]]

Though cockatrice in "A New Beginning" just to get a feather from it. Not really. Diana was annoyed and angered by Akko's presence than proud, as one of the reasons she went back to the manor was to get away from her (as explained in Episode 23). She only let her reluctantly stay for a night to avoid fueling further trouble (note, she didn't become defensive of Akko, until she began to object and argue to Daryl's claims).

* AdaptationRelationshipOverhaul: As aforementioned, her relationship with and attitude towards Akko ends up differing between the films and TV series. In the former, Diana is incredibly antagonistic and hostile towards Akko and tends to frequently mock and berate her throughout both films and while she'll acknowledge Akko's skill on rare occasion, such as the end of ''The Enchanted Parade'', she'll immediately undermine it right afterwards by berating her. In the TV series, however, while she's still not quite fond of Akko at first, she never directly mocks and bullies her like Hannah and Barbara do and her criticisms towards Akko, while incredibly harsh and a bit judgemental and condescending, are more a case of BrutalHonesty and constructive criticism than downright mockery most of the time. Furthermore, while Diana's relationship with Akko never really changes in either of the films, Diana gains more respect and a more supportive and caring attitude towards Akko as the series progress and by the end of the TV series, the two become friends with their rivalry becoming more of a FriendlyRivalry.

* SoProudOfYou: She is touched to the core by Akko, who came to her family estate to personally bring her back to Luna Nova with little more than the clothes on her back.
