* BadassGrandpa: He is the oldest of the Nine Terrors, and is perfectly capable of dishing out a beating. The second Gaiden chapter eventually reveals that he's also a ''literal'' grandfather to that chapter's female protagonist, Roshi Ajisai.

* CoolOldGuy: According to Naruto.

* PainfulRhyme: An in-universe example, much like his canon counterpart. Lampshaded by his brother Ay in a flashback, in which they were hiding from townspeople bent on killing the Kyuushingai:

* CordonBleughChef: Bordering on LethalChef, at that. She makes a dish of pepperpot soup[[note]]a real-life dish native to the Caribbean, with ingredients consisting of [[CaptainObvious peppers]], beef, tapioca sauce, cinnamon, garlic, onion, thyme, basil, sugar and salt[[/note]] and serves it to the gang in Chapter 100...and only Choji and Kushina can stomach it, the latter (herself a SupremeChef) pointing out just what Ino's done wrong after a few test-tastes. For Naruto, Shikamaru and Sasuke, though, the concoction "tastes like vomit."

* AscendedExtra: Applies specifically to those members of the Terrors not named Naruto, Gaara or Killer Bee, as those three were major characters in canon ([[CaptainObvious and one was the series' titular character]]). As for the other six, while their jinchuriki status certainly impacted the canon series' plot, the characters themselves weren't showcased that much (although Utakata got [[ADayInTheLimelight a limelight flashback]] in the anime).

* LoveableSexManiac: He's absolutely ''gleeful'' when noting that the skirts worn by this year's batch of schoolgirls are shorter than before, and Rin has to caution him that if he ever tries to peep on her in the bathroom, [[GroinAttack he'll wake up without his balls the next morning]]. Yet he's a good source of advice for his students, and Rin herself acknowledges that, in a serious pinch, there's nobody she trusts more than Kakashi.

* AntiHero: He has shades of this, despite being the main character. While he does regret having to do the things he did just to survive the 365 days, for much of the story he justifies his actions by noting that he only killed people who attacked him or were hurting innocents, and as such he was [[IDidWhatIHadToDo doing what he had to do]]. Much of his CharacterDevelopment has to do with him coming to terms with the reality that not everybody who suffered during the 365 days is going to see it the same way. Then there's his willingness to brutally beat up opponents and torture people (by making them watch ''Literature/{{Twilight}}'', mind you, but even still...).

* EvenEvilHasStandards: PlayedForLaughs with Kimimaro, who is perfectly willing to break into people's houses, commit murder, engage in illegal dog-fighting, and [[WouldHitAGirl attack women]]...but is horrified at the idea of forcing people to watch the ''Franchise/{{Twilight}}'' series as a method of torture.

* DomesticAbuser: In his back-story, Hidan was this toward his girlfriend [[spoiler:Nohara Rin]]; it was so bad she actually had to take advantage of the Nine Terrors' rampage in their neighborhood on one particular night just to get away from him.

* ABoyAndHisX: Kiba and Akamaru. They definitely care for each other.

Naruto's father and Kushina's husband, he gets mentioned several times throughout the story before being formally introduced in Chapter 57. He's the head of a black-ops investigation team, of which Itachi and Yugito are members.

* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: Implied. We know he's the leader of a black-ops team which includes Yugito, a former Kyuushingai and an ex-cop, and Itachi, a skilled combatant and gunslinger, and also that he's capable of [[TrainingFromHell mopping the floor with Naruto as a means of training the latter]]. He's definitely got what it takes.

* DisappearedDad: Prior to Chapter 57, he was this for Naruto, although not by death, since it was already confirmed that he was still alive. [[DaddyHadAGoodReasonForAbandoningYou The reason for his absence was because he is in charge of a black-ops group which is investigating the events that led to the 365 days of carnage two years ago]].

* ImprobableAimingSkills: Minato's ''good'' with firearms. In the twenty-ninth Gaiden, he proves capable of shooting several criminals in their extremities from several meters away, as well as [[BlastingItOutOfTheirHands shooting a gun out of one criminal's hand]], and that's only because he's specifically seeking ''not'' to kill them outright.
* InTheHood: His first appearance shows him wearing a white pullover jacket with a hood.

* ParentalNeglect: He's been accused three different times of perpetrating this with Naruto. Minato, to his credit, doesn't try to deny it.

* NamedByTheAdaption: In canon, he's the Cloud shinobi J, who's not otherwise identified by a proper name. His name here comes from the phonetic pronunciation of his canon name.

* SilkHidingSteel: If her calling-out of Minato for his crappy fathering skills is any indication. Or her kicking the crap out of three street toughs all by herself after having previously and politely asked them not to bother her or her friends. [[spoiler:Or her slapping Kira in the face for outing Naruto and Yugito as Kyuushingai]].

The other members of Yuyami include Uchiha Itachi, Nii Yugito, and former military man Jei. (Itachi's character entry is under the Uchiha Zaibatsu folder, while Yugito's is under the Kyuushingai folder.)

A former serviceman who resides in Mist City and is a sort-of mentor to minor character Omoi.

!!Minister Byakuren
The Minister of National Security.
* BadassBaritone: He's described as having a voice like this, despite his advanced age.
* CoolOldGuy: When Naruto declares that Jiraiya's a pervert, Byakuren's response is to laugh about it and then bring up a NoodleIncident that Jiraiya was involved in.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: While he does briefly chastise Naruto for the work the security forces had to undergo thanks to the 365 days, Byakuren acknowledges that nobody is immune to making mistakes, and that Naruto is being TheAtoner.

!!Kazahana Sousetsu
The country's Prime Minister.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: He knows nothing about the circumstances surrounding the DeceasedFallGuyGambit or of Aoba's plans to sniff out the truth.
* SparedByTheAdaptation: In the canon series' first movie, he was killed in the back-story.

!!Yamashiro Aoba
The new Minister of Justice, personally handpicked by Prime Minister Kazahana to replace Ishikawa.
* GreaterScopeParagon: He's Minato's direct supervisor in the latter's search to uncover the truth behind the Kyuushingai training program and the Nine Terrors' rampage.
* UnexpectedSuccessor: Prior to his appointment, Aoba was a Minister without Portfolio in the Prime Minister's office; the only reason he got his new post was because Jiraiya, the Justice Ministry's Permanent Secretary, refused to take on the role himself out of respect to the recently-deceased Ishikawa. [[spoiler:Although Aoba himself quickly learns that Jiraiya's actual reason was to provide PlausibleDeniability in case anyone found out about Ishikawa's role in the DeceasedFallGuyGambit]].

* BewareTheSillyOnes: His behavior is quite comical at times. He makes many a ShoutOut to real-life pop culture in the form of quotations, gives joking quips about his two subordinates and [[ShipperOnDeck how he expects them to hook up]], and casually rebuffs Yugito's attempts at physical assault in response to his ribbing (these in themselves played for laughs) while being the target of both Yugito's (again comical) death threats and Itachi's insults...but then you remember that he's the field leader for a black-ops team, giving orders to said two members (Yugito a former Kyuushingai, Itachi a gun-slinging marksman) [[spoiler:and [[PapaWolf also made a point]] of visiting the home of the man who led Naruto into a trap by Akatsuki, without actually killing said man due to the decision to leave him to [[MamaBear Kushina]]]]. Not to mention, during the second TimeSkip he was in charge of Naruto's training, with Naruto (also a Kyuushingai) being completely unable to land even ''a single hit'' on Minato during the one flashback scene showcasing the TrainingFromHell Minato put him through; and he can and will use the JackBauerInterrogationTechnique on anyone he needs information out of without batting an eye, ''and'' Kankuro implies in Chapter 59 that it would be a suicidal move to confront Minato head-on because, if he'd volunteered for the Kyuushingai training program, they wouldn't have needed more people than just him. Digest all that for a minute.

* PapaWolf: [[spoiler:After seeing what's happened to Naruto as a result of the latter's capture by Mizuki and Akatsuki, Minato arranges for Mizuki to get beaten up by Itachi, who already has [[BigBrotherInstinct personal reasons]] to batter the guy. He also pays a visit to Mitokado Homura, who was in league with the kidnap plot, but takes care to hide his true identity and leaves any due violence to [[MamaBear Kushina]]]].

%%* MightyGlacier: Fuguki, who's the biggest member of the gang, manages to briefly incapacitate Naruto by barreling into him and then sitting on his back, pressing the blond boy down with his weight.

* GoodScarsEvilScars: His facial scar, here implied to have been given to him by Naruto.

* AdaptationalVillainy: Played straight with Zabuza, as while he was an antagonist to Naruto and the rest of Team 7 during the Land of Waves arc, he really wasn't such a bad guy after all and in fact pulled a RedemptionEqualsDeath to cut down Gato, the arc's BigBad. Averted with Raiga, who was the main villain of his anime-only arc. The rest of the group may probably play it straight, if you note that their canon selves were already dead prior to the series' main timeline and might only have been antagonists by virtue of being shinobi attached to the Hidden Mist Village, which even then is headed by a Mizukage who's not such a bad person--that and the fact that we don't really know that much about them anyway.

* NeverMyFault: While he readily cops to his [[YourCheatingHeart cheating ways]] being the direct result of his and Guren's marriage ending, he asserts that that only happened because, for the six years they'd been together, they had tried and failed to have children--and he blames ''Guren'' for it, saying her "plumbing" doesn't work. Sagi calls him out on it, [[ArmorPiercingQuestion asking if Genkei ever did his own medical checkup to eliminate]] ''[[ArmorPiercingQuestion himself]]'' [[ArmorPiercingQuestion as the real problem]].

A real estate agent and married mother of two, who comes for an appointment at Mabui's spa in the twenty-first Gaiden.
* HappilyMarried

* DarkAndTroubledPast: Naruto's past as a member of the Kyuushingai haunts him to this very day, and his move to Konoha Town was not only an attempt to avoid a criminal record, but also an attempt to start fresh and move on with his life.

* ChronicHeroSyndrome: A frequent trait of his, including but not limited to: his rescuing of the Yamanaka family store from Mizuki and his thugs, his beating of Aoi and the Hall Monitors' Guild when they hassle innocent townspeople, his going to rescue Hanabi when she's been kidnapped, his help Mabui when her spa is threatened by Kurotsuchi...
