* AntiHero: He has shades of this, despite being the main character. While he does regret having to do the things he did just to survive the 365 days, for much of the story he justifies his actions by noting that he only killed people who attacked him or were hurting innocents, and as such he was [[IDidWhatIHadToDo doing what he had to do]]. * HappilyMarriedBigSisterInstinct: When they were children, Sumire always beat up other kids who picked on Guren. Also, when Guren's JerkAss ex-husband Genkei blames their failed marriage and his own infidelity on Guren's supposed fertility troubles, Sumire's ready to physically tear him a new one right there and then.
--> '''Sumire:''' Hey, when kids pick on one's kid sibling, it's the bigger sibling's responsibility to protect said kid sibling.
* HappilyMarried: For sixteen years, as the twenty-fifth Gaiden reveals.

!!Oshiro Genkei
Guren's ex-husband, who appears in the twenty-fifth Gaiden as a patron at the cafe where Guren, Sumire and Sagi just happen to be having their own get-together.
* JerkAss: He blames Guren, to her face, in front of her boyfriend and her sister, in a public place, for supposedly having infertility problems that led to them being unable to have children and that, according to him, resulted in him cheating on her with her best friend just to be able to have a child to pass on his name.
* MustHaveCaffeine: The whole reason he's at the cafe in the twenty-fifth Gaiden is to grab a cappuccino before a business meeting with some clients.
* NamedByTheAdaptation: In canon, he was the unnamed Third Kazekage.
* NeverMyFault: While he readily cops to his [[YourCheatingHeart cheating ways]] being the direct result of his and Guren's marriage ending, he asserts that that only happened because, for the six years they'd been together, they had tried and failed to have children--and he blames ''Guren'' for it, saying her "plumbing" doesn't work. Sagi calls him out on it, [[ArmorPiercingQuestion asking if Genkei ever did his own medical checkup to eliminate]] ''[[ArmorPiercingQuestion himself]]'' [[ArmorPiercingQuestion as the real problem]].

* GreaterScopeVillain: Gaara's plan to overthrow the government, the violence that sparked the 365 days, the subsequent devastation caused across the region because of the Kyuushingai and the warring criminals taking advantage of the chaos, the trauma inflicted to the Kira brothers and the deaths of Chief Kaiza's wife and Tenten's parents during that period, the formation of Akatsuki, the formation of LOVE, the creation of Gold Sand, the murders of several doctors and their families at Utakata's hands, Hanabi's kidnapping as masterminded by Akatsuki, Naruto's torture and Roshi's murder at the hands of Akatsuki, Yahiko's attempt on Sakura's life as part of his RevengeByProxy move on Dr. Haruno--most if not all of the story's major conflicts and tragedies can be traced back, in varying measures, to these four, since they came up with the directive to frame their own soldiers (including Gaara's parents) for treason in order to cover up Jiraiya's accidentally blowing the soldiers up with a missile, [[MyCountryRightOrWrong all in an effort to keep hold of international trade agreements and to save face with other countries]].
