He runs with his tail between his legs to Canterlot, only to find Conquest waiting for him and the Orb of Reality stolen and turned on him by Celestia, who sends Celesto and Conquest to an isolated area to fight. He then gets humiliated in full view of all Equestria and killed by Conquest, [[ILoveTheDead who then screws his corpse]] for [[DesecratingTheDead good measure]]. Celestia and Luna promptly take over and do more in one chapter against Conquest than Celesto managed to the entire story. His [[UndignifiedDeath death]] is also reversed at the war's conclusion, because of a [[BackFromTheDead revived Twilight Sparkle,]] Trixie, and their respective element-bearer groups... however, Grand Ruler is now a hapless, wingless, hornless colt. Bear in mind that last bit: ''hornless'' '''''[[BrokenAngel colt]]'''''. As in, [[BroughtDowntoNormal now an earth pony,]] though he needed a mirror to help himself see that once he climbed out of a crater close to Canterlot. Oh, who else but [[PapaWolf Titan]] should show up to tell him that he's doomed to spend the rest of his days as a colt, until he learns humility—whilst telling him that, since Celestia doesn't want to be married to a child, he can consider his marriage to her annulled? The [[BigNo scream he gives]] at this news highlights how far he had fallen since Grand Ruler is now in an {{Ironic|Hell}} [[SelfInflictedHell Hell]] of sorts. His "utopia" has fallen, and is being rebuilt with his ideas for how it should be run kicked to the curb, all the damage he has done more or less reversed, his power is gone, and the cutie marks he took away from his precious Unicornicopians have made a comeback, while the Equestrians he damaged with his facilities are on the road to recovery. While it's still unclear if Grand Ruler has his own mark re-appear, or if he ever got it, it's just as well, considering all he did just to remain in power. Nevertheless, his cutie mark depicted something flipping a board game. However, he no longer has it, and may have to earn a new one. He also now has to spend his days under the watch of the '''Cutie Mark Crusaders,''' which include Dinky and Daphne now. It doesn't stick though, as in the epilogue we see him in a psychiatrist's office as a mere teenager, insanely declaring that he will rule Equestria again one day, all while a cardboard horn is strapped to his forehead.]]
