* BigThinShortTrio: If the "Saloonatics" designs are canon, then Edd (Big), Matt (Thin) and Tom (Short) are this. Tord is an outlier with an average body type. A rare case where the Big one is the leader (most of the time).

* ColourCodedForYourConvenience: While it isn't hard to tell them apart in the first place, they all have differently-coloured hoodies to further tell them apart. Edd wears green, Tom wears blue, Matt wears purple (though he also is usually seen wearing a green overcoat and used to wear a black shirt) and Tord wears red (though he also used to wear a black jacket).

* EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifference: While all had their designs evolve dramatically, all used to have pink skin due to the way Edd used to color skin tone.

* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Matt is Sanguine, Edd is Phlegmatic, Tom is Melancholic, and Tord was Choleric back when he was part of the group.

* FunTShirt: Edd, Tom and Matt have these types of t-shirts underneath their hoodies. Edd's t-shirt reads "Smeg Head"[[note]]British slang for a fool[[/note]], Tom's reads "Ska Band" with a checkerboard pattern in the middle, and Matt's reads "I <3 [=M@=]". Tom's t-shirt used to read "Stay Safe" with an ''WebAnimation/{{asdfmovie}}'' character's head on it, but it changed to its ''Eddsworld Beyond'' design after Creator/TomSka's departure.

* OlderThanTheyLook: All of them are grown adults, but could easily pass as teenagers. Most prevalent in the "Saloonatics" art style, where they look like kids. This may be due to the fact that Edd designed their cartoon appearances when he was a teenager and the designs haven't changed much since then.
* OneHourWorkWeek: They are never seen working. Edd is implied to be an artist and animator, (like his real-life counterpart) but is rarely seen drawing anything. The comics make it a bit more obvious, as Edd will occasionally be seen painting (though the comics are also dubiously canon). WordOfGod has made the claim that they do have jobs, but because every episode takes place on the weekend, we never get to see said jobs, though it's unclear how seriously this is meant to be taken, especially since there are episodes that contradict it.

* VagueAge: They're commonly seen as young adults or late teenagers, but their exact ages are unknown. In "Snobody", Edd is said to be 17, the same age Edd Gould was when the animation was made, though they most likely do not age along with their real counterparts. In one of the comics, Edd dates a 26-year-old woman, so he's probably around this age. The fact that they all live on their own and according to WordOfGod, have jobs seems to confirm this.

* AnimalMotifs: Cats. Not only because of Ringo, but also Edd's own tendency to put on a PlayfulCatSmile.

* CelibateHero: ''Maybe.'' In the Pride Month 2023 art series on the show's official Twitter account, Edd's shown carrying a flag with the aromantic asexual colors on it. Whether or not this means Edd himself is aroace depends on how "canon" we're supposed to see the art.

* {{Keet}}: Moreso when Tim Hautekiet took over the role, though he has his moments in earlier episodes too.

* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: [[spoiler:Near the end of [=PowerEdd=], Edd realises that he made enemies with Eduardo for making fun of him for getting second place in a drawing contest during their childhood, and takes the initiative to apologise. He then admits that Eduardo deserved first place for his drawing. Eduardo is amazed]].

* TeamMom: In later episodes, he sometimes slips into this category. Can easily be seen in the opening to ''The End (Part 1)'', which not only makes him look like a mom and Tom look like a dad, but also makes Matt look like their ''child''.

* WouldHitAGirl: In ''Fun Dead''. He punches a zombified woman in the face, though it was justified since she was trying to EAT him.

* BewareTheNiceOnes: When Tord [[spoiler:punches him in the face and destroys his and the others' house in ''The End Part 2'']], he ''snaps'', and begins slamming buttons on a control panel to make Tord's mech attack itself. He only stops because of Edd (and even then, he was asking for a shot at Tord).

* BrainlessBeauty: In later episodes, at least; he's shown to be vain and not very bright.

* DumbassHasAPoint: Despite being as dumb as rocks in later episodes, Matt will sometimes offer intelligent solutions to problems. This is shown particularly in ''Hammer and Fail 2'' and ''Zanta Claws II''.
* EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifference: In early episodes of Eddsworld, Matt had flat orange hair which grew taller and spiker overtime, and to reflect his old cynical personality, wore a black shirt and later a black hoodie. In addition his overcoat was a dark green with a light color before switching so the collar was dark and the coat was light.
* {{Flanderization}}: The character's stupidity and narcissism went up after 2010, which was common before, although had become his main character trait. Justified in ''The End'', which reveals he accidentally erased his memories.
* ForcedTransformation: So far has been turned into a zombie, a vampire and a mutant lobster monster, all against his will. That said, he also slips into FullyEmbracedFiend in all these cases.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: In ''Hide and Seek'' where both Tom and Edd trick Matt into thinking that they want to play hide and seek with him but immediately go back to watching TV while Matt freezes to death while hiding in their fridge. Tom notices his body but doesn't really care about it and just grabs the soda near him and closes the fridge on him. Another big example would be in ''Fan Service'' where Edd and Tom celebrate their new dog while they both ignore Matt dying from an allergic reaction when exposed to the dog. * JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Despite his high narcissism and ego, he has his kinder moments, and is genuinely shown to be as nice as he is cheerful and excitable.

* ShamelessFanserviceGuy: After his clothes get caught in a belt sander and ripped to shreds, Matt just stands there triumphantly, likely not caring.

The sarcastic bitter eyeless alcoholic in a blue hoodie. Resident {{Jerkass}} and voice of reason, whenever Edd doesn't fulfil that role.

* AmbiguouslyBi: During Pride Month 2023, the official Twitter page provided artwork of the boys getting into shenanigans at a Pride event, with Tom specifically shown wearing a headband with the bisexual colors on it. The ambiguity stems mostly from the dubious canonicity of the Twitter images.

* BeyondTheImpossible: How he was born. His mom's a bowling ball and his dad's a pineapple.

* TheGrinch: Probably related to being a Jehovah's Witness.

** In "The End Part 1": Throughout the montage of them doing their adventures, Tord constantly harms Tom. When the gang returns home, Tord asks if he can have his old room back, which now belongs to Tom. Tom loses his temper, tossing the couch through the wall and storming out after yelling at Tord about how he can take his room and the place was too crowded anyway. Edd wants to go after Tom, but Tord manages to persuade Edd to stay and catch up now that's he back. Matt suggests they all check out his toy collection, and Tord follows up by saying they should watch ''Return of the Insane Zombie Pirates from Hell 4''. The animation ends with Edd saying "Just like old times, right?" and Tord responding with "Just like old times...", before closing the curtains with an evil smirk on his face.

* TakeOverTheWorld: We find out in ''The End'' that he has a giant robot hidden inside Edd's house built to do this.

** In ''Date Night'', [[CruelAndUnusualDeath he gets eaten by radioactive socks.]]
