* AdaptationDyeJob: The real Kiyoshi Hikawa has black hair, he doesn't have the blond hair his anime counterpart does.

* CanonForeigner: They are never directly stated to exist in either the manga or ''Dragon Ball Minus'', debuting ''Z'' filler, though the backstory of the Tuffles and Saiyans comes from a memo by Toriyama.
* CanonImmigrant: The Tuffles are a canon species as of ''Super'', where a member of its race fights in the Tournament of Power for Universe 2.

* CanonForeigner: Only appeared in the anime.

* CanonImmigrant: {{Inverted|Trope}}. He exists in the manga, but he doesn't appear. However, his appearance and characterization were developed by Toriyama himself, and thus, is more fleshed out in the anime.
* CoolShades: Wouldn't be a Kai without one.

* AnthropomorphicZigZag: The term "Earthling" does not exclusively refer to humans, but encompasses the whole range of sentient beings on the planet including the "Animal-types" and "Monster-types". [[FurryConfusion Normal, non-sentient animals also exist]]. [[ShooOutTheClowns The animals and monsters were gradually phased out of the setting]] save for a handful of individuals as the manga's tone became more adult. It was later explained in ''VideoGame/DragonBallZKakarot'' that most Animal-type Earthlings were originally normal humans who consumed a drug called Animaline which was steadily phased out of society, which comes of as strange when King Furry who is the ''King of the Earth'' is one of these anthropomorphic people, and contradicts his coming from a long line of animal type Earthlings. That said, there seems to be steady supply of animal-people by the time GT rolls around.

* BuxomIsBetter: She is viewed as very attractive, and the girl happens to have bigger bra size than Bulma at the time of her debut.[[note]]Granted, as of ''Super'' Bulma's bust is now the biggest of the cast, displacing Maron.[[/note]]

* FrogMan: He's a humanoid frog-like alien.

* FrogPeople: He's a humanoid frog-like alien.

* UglyGuyHotWife: Subverted as Krillin ''wanted'' her to marry him (and she was clearly into the idea of marrying him), but he broke up with her instead, primarily due to Android 18 entering into his life at around the same time.
* ValleyGirl: Very spacey and material-oriented.

* BrainlessBeauty: As Korin put it, she is so dumb, even party balloons have more of a brain than her. She's also clueless enough to actually allow [[DirtyOldMan Roshi]] to take advantage of her. {{Lampshade|Hanging}}d in the video game ''Legacy of Goku 2'' if you scan her with the scouter: "Scouter analysis cannot detect any brain waves. Perhaps the scouter is malfunctioning?"

* CurbStompBattle: Maron wasn't playing poker with Korin and Yajirobe. She was destroying them to the point Yajirobe had nothing but his underwear.

* {{Expy}}: Design-wise, she's meant to be a sexier Bulma. But intelligent wise, she's your stereotypical bimbo.
* HiddenDepths: She's extremely dumb, flirtatious, and pretty nice. She's also a monster in poker, and when Maron is left with Korin and Yajirobe, she utterly cleans them out at poker (Yajirobe is down to his [[{{Fundoshi}} underwear]]). Yajirobe asks Korin why he can't use his mind-reading ability to beat Maron, and Korin explains that [[TooDumbToFool there's nothing there to read]].

* InnocentlyInsensitive: She has the nerve to call Bulma and Chi-Chi old, but the way it's portrayed gives one the impression that she's not really being mean and is just too stupid to know that you shouldn't do that. it is also ridiculous of her to be calling Chi-Chi and Bulma old given that Chi-Chi was 25 and Bulma 29 when Maron first met them.
* KindheartedSimpleton: Aside from being occasionally InnocentlyInsensitive, she is pretty nice most of the time.

* NiceGirl: While utterly stupid, Maron is nothing short of kind-hearted.

* ReusedCharacterDesign: She is basically a younger version of Bulma, if Bulma had been born a bimbo and not as a super-genius.

* CoolPet: He's basically pure wish fulfillment for young Gohan.

* AllThereInTheCredits: Only the Westwood/Ocean dub refers to them by their names in the proper episode.

* AdaptationalWimp: In Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, Cynthia is shown to be very nervous when teaching Piccolo and reprimands him for being reckless. Interestingly, the game still states she's a SpeedDemon.

* AdaptationalHeroism: The character from ''Literature/JourneyToTheWest'' that Annin is based on, Taishang Laojun, wanted to kill Sun Wukong by putting him inside of a mystical furnace.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He may trash talk everyone, except King Kai, however, he is polite and does respect those who beat him.

* TheAce: He's able to completely worf Frieza, King Cold, the Ginyu Force, and Cell all single-handed [[CurbStompBattle with no effort]], and go toe-to-toe with Goku without any real problems. He is one of the few characters that Goku fought that put him in the underdog position during the Other World Tournament.

* IAmNotLeftHanded: After removing his weighted clothing, his speed skyrocketed to the point where he can keep with a full power Super Saiyan Goku.

One of South Kai's prized pupils, and the only one mentioned existing in the manga, albeit not seen in the flesh until the anime adaptation. He doesn't participate in the Otherworld Tournament due to his late arrival, then quickly backs out of entering the 25th World Tournament on Earth upon witnessing [[OvershadowedByAwesome Goku's strength.]]

* FatalFlaw: He would be nearly unbeatable between his special ability and his ability to breath underwater if he had [[FragileSpeedster any kind of defense]]. If he did, he could have easily won his battle with Goku by simply drowning him.

* ThisLooksLikeAJobForAquaman: PlayedWith. Without water, he's a complete pushover to the point that Goku felt bad beating him up. However, he has a special ability that allows him to change a limit area into a cube of water, not only giving him the HomeFieldAdvantage, but also allowing him to [[ExploitedImmunity exploit]] his ability to breath underwater where most people can't.

** The reason he exists (or more accurately, the reason why his appearance and personality exist). In Shin's original explanation, the fat Majin Buu was the original one, and all four of the other Supreme Kais were killed by him. Towards the end of the Buu arc, Shin quietly revises what he said and instead says that only two were killed, the two others (Grand and South) were absorbed instead, that this gave birth to the fat form everyone saw, and that his ''real'' original form is Kid Buu. This also meant that Super Buu, who was originally meant to be the same guy as Fat Buu and was treated as such, was retconned into being modeled after the South Supreme Kai rather than him being another aspect of Buu's nature.

* VoodooShark: Grand Supreme Kai is revealed as being able to awaken inside Buu multiple times, and helps the heroes a few times and provides an exposition on Moro, and adds some world building. The problem is, Buu's absorption technique doesn't work like this, and if it ''did'', that brings up the question as to why he couldn't do so earlier? As well as why couldn't the South Supreme Kai do the same? They were both protectors and good friends of Shin, so why does Moro awaken one kai but neither awaken when seeing the menace who similarly threatened their universe? And what exactly stops the Grand Supreme Kai from existing constantly? And so on and so forth.

* StrongFamilyResemblance: Much like Goten, he's a dead ringer for Goku when he was a kid.

* PowerCopying: Z has the ability to copy powers and transformations of others.

* AdaptationalPersonalityChange: In ''Fusion Reborn'', he's more prone to losing his cool than in the anime.

* SmallNameBigEgo: Well, she ''is'' a god who overlooks the entire eastern quadrant of the universe, but she tends to think she's bigger than she's actually is. Doesn't help that her team of fighters performed the worst out of all the Kais.

* {{Expy}}: He based off of Hercules in terms of having "heroic legends" as King Kai himself suggests and because his name resembles "Olympus", the Greek mountain where the Greek gods' kingdom was stated to be located. He also resembles Conan the Barbarian as well as Thor from Marvel Comics, which are all based on the same Hercules-type hero archetype.

* OvershadowedByAwesome: He's the third strongest fighter at the Otherworld Tournament. Unfortunately, he's severely outclassed by Goku and especially Pikkon.

These are the fighters who were trained by South Kai and participate in the Otherworld Tournament. South Kai trains his fighters in a defensive manner, but [[InformedAbility we don't see enough of his fighters to know what these defenses are]] other than Froug inflating himself. Olibu suspects that the southern quadrant is very peaceful given how one of the contestants fight.

* TickleTorture: He actually tries to beat Goku by tickling him into submission using his many arms to hold Goku in place and torture him. Most interestingly is how well this [[WeaksauceWeakness works]] since Goku is literally helpless for several minutes before he finally blows Caterpy off of him.

He is very fast, but he loses with ease to Olibu. Well, more like he defeated himself since he [[SelfDuplication cloned himself into seven]], all the clones rammed into themselves when Olibu dodged, and they knocked themselves out.

* BadassAdorable: Considering that he must have acquired his Super Saiyan transformation at about the same time as Goku Jr., despite not knowing what it's called. He seemed well versed in how it works.

* BuxomIsBetter: The girl is stacked, having a bigger bra size than Bulma at the time of her debut, though as of ''Super'' Bulma's bust is now the biggest of the cast, displacing Maron.

* CanonImmigrant: A rather weird case of this. Her appearances in the Garlic Jr. and Android arcs were exclusive to the anime (in fact, the whole Garlic Jr. arc was anime-only), but while she wasn't seen after the first part of the Android Saga, she was referenced in ''Super'' when 17 mispronounced Marron's name when first meeting her, prompting 18's BerserkButton, which implies that her appearances in those arcs are canon, so apparently she's still roaming around the ''DB'' world somewhere . It's heavily implied that Maron and 18 may have had some bad blood at some point during the 7 year TimeSkip between the Cell and Buu Sagas.

* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: A green man who trains with weighted clothing and fought Goku in a martial arts tournament? [[SarcasmMode That doesn't sound like Piccolo at all!]] WordOfGod says this was intentional, Creator/AkiraToriyama said he tried to make him "Piccolo-esque" even down to facial expressions. Reportedly, the anime's staff animated him using the references sheets for Piccolo.

* CanonImmigrant: {{Inverted|Trope}}. He exists in the manga, but he doesn't appear. However, his appearance and characterization were developed by [[WordOfGod Toriyama himself]], and thus, is more fleshed out in the anime.

* OvershadowedByAwesome: While no longer being TheWorfEffect incarnate and [[spoiler:having prevented the deaths of "himself", Tien, Chiaotzu, and Piccolo due to Goku being late to the battle]], he's still implied to be weaker than Goku [[spoiler: and teams up with him to beat Vegeta, not strong enough to take him on by himself, if only because of Goku's Kaioken (as his default power level is 10,000, higher than Goku's 8,000]]. After this, he even realizes neither he, nor any other human, will be a match for the villains that lie ahead.
