[[caption-width-right:350:A few of the Snowmads: a '''Fish Poker Pops''' (center) and two '''Pointy Tucks''']]
The Snowmads are a tribe of vikings from frigid northern seas who take over Donkey Kong Island and throw the Kongs out of their home. Their ranks are predominantly made up of arctic animals such as penguins and walruses. They are led by Lord Fredrik, and are the main antagonists in ''VideoGame/DonkeyKongCountryTropicalFreeze'' who, like the [[Characters/DonkeyKongTikiTakTribe Tiki Tak Tribe]], replace the [[Characters/DonkeyKongKremlingKrew Kremling Krew]].

* AbnormalAmmo: Some of the penguins, called Archies, use fish as arrows. Chum Chucker Charlies throw a barrage of fish like Hammer Bros.
* AlliterativeName: One of the walrus enemies is named Chum Chucker Charlie.
* ArrowsOnFire: A red variant of the Archies fires flaming fish bones that can't be jumped on, not even with Cranky's cane.
* AnimalsNotToScale: Most of them are enormous compared to DK, which is particularly noticeable with Fugu (a giant pufferfish who can puff up to the size of a hot air balloon), Skowl ([[GiantFlyer an owl three times as big as DK]]), and Ba-Boom (baboons as big as DK himself). Walruses, polar bears, and large sea lions do get notably larger than even the biggest silverback, but the size difference isn't as drastic in real life.
* BadWithTheBone: Some Tucks carry fish bone spears.
* CoolHelmet: They sport viking helmets, both bare and horned. They even have different names depending on what kind of helmet they're wearing.

* GrimUpNorth: They come from icier seas further north.
* HornsOfBarbarism: As part of their HornyVikings appearance, they typically wear metal helmets adorned with large horns.
* HornyVikings: They're Hollywood Vikings as {{Funny Animal}}s, being Arctic and Antarctic wildlife depicted as nomadic raiders hailing from lands of profound chill, wearing horned helmets and sailing the seas in search of gold and plunder.
* IShallTauntYou: If you're hit by a Waldough at the front, they will stop and laugh.
* KillerRabbit: Literally! The Fluffs are anything but the cutest rabbits.
* KungFuProofMook: Snowmads with horned helmets can't be jumped on, Snowmads with spears can't be rolled into from the front, and then there are Snowmads with ''both''.

* OminousOwl: Called Hootz, they make up a portion of their forces as {{Airborne Mook}}s, and one is even a boss.
* OutsideGenreFoe: You don't really anticipate simians living on a warm tropical island having to deal with Vikings from the arctic.
* PolarBearsAndPenguins: Tucks (Penguins) are mixed up with horned owls, lemmings and snow hares, which are primarily from the Northern Hemisphere. There's also at least one polar bear in Bashmaster.
* PunnyName: Many of the Snowmads' names are puns of some sort. "Snowmad" itself is a pun on "snow" and "nomad."
* RedOnesGoFaster: Speedy Tucks move faster than the regular ones, and wear red pants.
* SemiaquaticSpeciesSailor: The Snowmads are a viking crew of animals from Grim Up North. Although the crew consists of a variety of animals, the leader, Lord Fredrik, and the {{Elite Mook}}s, the Waldoughs, are walruses. There are also penguins and one polar bear present.
* SerialEscalation: The villains in ''Returns'' managed to take all of DK's banana hoard, the Snowmads in the sequel take EVERYTHING, Donkey Kong Island and five other surrounding islands in a matter of seconds. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7b9FnSvEQxE According to the developers]], they wanted to pit the badass Kongs against other badass animals such as polar bears and walruses. * TheSpiny: You get harmed by jumping on the ones wearing horned helmets.
* TopHeavyGuy: The walruses, called Waldoughs, and their variants.
* UncertainDoom: The generals are all punched off into the distance by the Kongs, but unlike the Tiki generals in the previous game, they do not return for the final boss, making their fates unclear. As for Lord Fredrik, we do see him [[spoiler:go flying headlong into the ocean, where he makes a gigantic splash that sends some of his ships flying up into the air, but we don't see the aftermath of the splash, making it hard to tell if Fredrik and the Snowmads on the ships survived or not]].

!Leaders
[[folder:Lord Fredrik]]
!!Lord Fredrik, the Snowmad King
!!!'''Island:''' DK Island
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lord_fredrik_02.png]]
A Waldough and the supreme leader of the Snowmads, he is the final boss in ''DKC: Tropical Freeze'', in the now frozen DK Island.
----
* {{Acrofatic}}: Despite his girth, he can move [[LightningBruiser surprisingly quickly]], and can make some [[InASingleBound impressive jumps]].
* AdiposeRex: He's the king of the Snowmads, and as a walrus, is quite fat.
* AnIcePerson: His horn shoots ice dragons and balls of ice. He summons a very large ice dragon to both blow away the Kong family, and also to cover the entire DK Island in snow and ice. In the final battle, he can use his horn to summon smaller ice dragons to attack Donkey Kong as well.
* BadassCape: Wears a cape made of fur.
* BattleTrophy: The horn he used to freeze the island in the first place, as well as fight with, is kept by DK--first to thaw the island and then as a [[MundaneUtility plain musical instrument]].
* BigBad: He's the leader of the Snowmads and the one responsible for freezing DK Island.
* EvilOverlord: It's even in his title.
* EvilLaugh: He lets out a deep, guttural laugh just before freezing DK's island in the opening cutscene, as well as a few times in the battle against him.
* EvilSoundsDeep: While he doesn't speak, his laughs, roars, and grunts are very low-pitched.
* {{Expy}}: A fat but [[StoutStrength viciously strong]] invader of Donkey Kong Island, who attacks the Kongs by ramming them, hopping all over the place, and firing barrages of projectiles from a large weapon. Are we talking about Lord Fredrik, or King K. Rool?
* FatBastard: He invaded the Kongs' island. As a walrus, he's naturally fat. [[{{Acrofatic}} This hardly stops him from putting up a fight]].
* GenericDoomsdayVillain: He's an evil ruler of Snowmads who invaded the Kongs' island and turned it into a frozen wasteland... and that's all we know about him.
* IShallTauntYou: In the fight against him, he occasionally laughs while the Kongs are avoiding his obstacles. Also, when you toss a projectile at him & barely miss, he'll ''dance'' for a second, sometimes like a ''ballerina''. He also looks down at the cracks reaching his feet that DK makes upon jumping into his throne room, laughing dismissively as if to say, "Was that supposed to impress me?"
* IcyBlueEyes: Fitting, considering that he's AnIcePerson.
* InstrumentOfMurder: His horn can create ice dragons to attack the Kongs. He also used it in the intro FMV to freeze Donkey Kong Island.
* IronicName: Fredrik means 'Peaceful Ruler'. This is the guy who waged a hostile takeover of Donkey Kong Island.
* JigglePhysics: His large stomach jiggles and bounces everytime he moves.
* KeystoneArmy: While it's unknown if he still had forces on the island, he's sent flying from his ship (breaking it in half on the way out) and crashes into the ships still on the water, [[LoadBearingBoss creating a massive splash]] that damages several and at least capsizes all of them.
* KingMook: He's a giant anthropomorphic walrus like his Waldough minions, and he's the leader of the Snowmad tribe.
* KnightOfCerebus: While the Snowmads are generally quite goofy and not super threatening, Fredrick is a dark, looming threat who is taken dead seriously.
* LightningBruiser: Despite his size, this guy can run FAST.
* ObviouslyEvil: Scary-looking from head to toe.
* PowerGlows: Unlike the other Snowmads, his helmet is energized, meaning even Cranky's pogo jump can't damage him there.
* RankScalesWithAsskicking: It's unknown if he inherited his title or earned it, but he's definitely the strongest of the Snowmads.
* ShoutOut: Many of Lord Fredrik's moves are similar to the way King K. Rool fights in his games.
* SizeShifter: He can use his horn to make himself giant and must be hit with a {{Mook}} to be shrunken again for damaging.
* UseYourHead: One of his main attacks is a headlong charge with his horned helm pointed forward, [[TacticalSuicideBoss which leaves him open to be jumped on with good timing]].
* WeHaveReserves: When he leaps onto the battlefield from his throne room, any Snowmad minion he summons there instantly dies. He doesn't react to this, indicating a LackOfEmpathy.
* WilyWalrus: This walrus is the leader of the villainous Snowmads, and has an ObviouslyEvil appearance to match.

[[folder:Pompy]]
!!Pompy, the Presumptuous
!!!'''Island:''' Lost Mangroves
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pompy_the_presumptuous.png]]
A sea lion who acts like a circus performer, he is the boss fought in in the Lost Mangroves, the first island.
----
* {{Acrofatic}}: He's quite agile for his size, as he's capable of making multiple leaps in succession and can pull off some impressive acrobatics.
* BallBalancingSeal: He's a seal, and will sometimes balance fish and urchins on his nose before tossing them onto the stage as hazards.
* BigOlEyebrows: His eyebrows are quite thick.
* TheBrute: He's very large, and mostly a physical fighter.
* DeathFromAbove: One of his attacks involves trying to crush the Kongs as he leaps into the air.
* FlunkyBoss: He sometimes summons penguins to attack the Kongs.
* MonstrousSeal: Not only does this sea lion work for the Snowmads, he's surprisingly scary for only the first boss. Not only is he ''enormous'' - one of the biggest members of the Snowmads - but he's one of the only three bosses in the game to get [[RottenRockAndRoll heavy metal music]] - the other two are the penultimate and FinalBoss!
* RepulsiveRingmaster: The Japanese version makes it clear that Pompy actually runs the circus in his boss level, "Big Top Bop".
* TheSpiny: In addition to his helmet, he sometimes tosses sea urchins into the area, which injure the Kongs if they try to jump on them. Both can be bypassed with Cranky's cane.
* SmallNameBigEgo: He seems to be incredibly vain, as he does a ton of flips and tricks while he fights.
* SpinAttack: One of his attacks involves spinning across the arena sideways.
* StarterVillain: The first of the main leaders of the Snowmads the Kongs fight.
* SymbolSwearing: He does this every time he TurnsRed.
* TurnsRed: His skin even changes color each time he does this.

[[folder:Skowl]]
!!Skowl, the Startling
!!!'''Island:''' Autumn Heights
[[quoteright:339:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_skowl1_7827.jpg]]
The large leader of the Hootz who fights with magic, he is the second boss fought in in the Autumn Heights, the second island.
----
* BlowYouAway: In the second part of his fight, one of his attacks involves creating a massive gale that propels the Kongs and his troops across the screen.
* EvilSoundsDeep: His voice is much deeper than the other owls.
* FeatherFlechettes: His projectile attack.
* FlunkyBoss: He summons owls constantly throughout the fight.
* GiantFlyer: He's as large as the Pufftons, without looking fat at all.
* AnIcePerson: He can create spiky ice balls that roll across the stage. They can only be jumped on using Cranky's cane.
* KingMook: Of the Hootz.
* OminousOwl: Even his voice sounds ominous.
* RedBaron: "King of the Mountain", in the Japanese version.
* ThrowTheMookAtThem: Some of the owls he summons wear an [[EggshellClothing eggshell helmet]], allowing the Kongs to jump on them without killing them and then throw them at Skowl.

[[folder:Ba-Boom]]
!!Ba-Boom, the Boisterous
!!!'''Island:''' Bright Savannah
[[quoteright:345:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/3a6f44c2f7f0ce768c1052be20ae65f8.png]]

Trio of ninja baboon brothers, they are the bosses fought in the Bright Savannah, the third island.
----
* ArtisticLicenseBiology: Like many fictional baboons, they are given the colorful facial markings of a mandrill (once thought to be a species of baboon but later recognized as a distinct primate).
* ChromaticArrangement: Each brother has a unique color for his facial ridges and limb wrappings. One has red, one has blue, and one has teal-green.
* MadBomber: One of their attacks involves throwing bombs, and they really go ape with them in the last part of the fight.
* NinjaPirateZombieRobot: They are Viking ninja baboons.
* PunnyName: They are baboons whose bombs go "boom".
* TheSpiny: Their helmets, obviously.
* TacticalSuicideBoss: They should really stop throwing those fruit bombs with long fuses if they doesn't want to be hit by them.
* TokenMinority: Notably, all the other Snowmads are [[GrimUpNorth polar animals]], [[SemiaquaticSpeciesSailor marine animals, or both]], but baboons are tropical primates who would be more at home on Donkey Kong Island.
* {{Troll}}: In the cutscene preluding their fight, one of them snatches some bananas away from DK and promptly laughs at him. The game even slows down as he laughs to indicate how much of jerks they are.
* WolfpackBoss: You must fight all three of the brothers at once. Two of them disappear upon being defeated, and only one remains.

[[folder:Fugu]]
!!Fugu, the Frightening
!!!'''Island:''' Sea Breeze Cove
[[quoteright:199:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_3fugu_01_9654.png]]

A pufferfish who can grow to a gargantuan size, he is the boss fought in the Sea Breeze Cove, the fourth island.
----
* AttackItsWeakPoint: When inflated, the only part of his body that isn't covered in spikes is his rear.
* BigOlEyebrows: Like Pompy, he has enormous, bushy eyebrows.
* {{Black Viking|s}}: Or Japanese Viking in this case. Fugu is the Japanese word for pufferfish and the name of a Japanese dish made with a poisonous species that can kill people if not prepared correctly.
* ADogNamedPerro: "Fugu" literally means "pufferfish" in Japan.
* APigNamedPorkchop: "Fugu" can also mean a Japanese dish made from pufferfish meat.
* DubNameChange: In the Japanese version, he's called Panpappu instead.
* FlunkyBoss: He can spit sea urchins and soft pufferfish. The pufferfish can be knocked into him, damaging him and causing him to shrink to his original, spike-less size.
* IShallTauntYou: If you get hit two times while he's really huge, he'll [[BreakingTheFourthWall look at the screen and laugh at you.]]
* MuggingTheMonster: Before the fight, upon seeing the apparently wimpy Fugu, the Kongs sneak up behind him to scare him. Needless to say, Fugu is not amused.
* PainfulPointyPufferfish: He '''is''' a pufferfish after all, and his spikes prevent the Kongs from touching him undamaged. Except for his prongless rear...
* RedBaron: "[[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast The Pufferfish from Hell]]", in the Japanese version.
* SizeShifter: At first glance, Fugu seems no bigger than any of the other pufferfish enemies in the game. However, he can inflate himself to the point where he can fill up a third of the battlefield.
* SpikesOfVillainy: Spikes protrude from his body when he's inflated.
* SpinAttack: Some of his attacks involve spinning, whether vertically or horizontally. His weak spot can be hit if he's spinning vertically.
* TurnsRed: His face starts getting redder with anger with each phase.
* UnderwaterBossBattle: His boss battle takes place entirely underwater.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Bashmaster]]
!!Bashmaster, the Unbreakable
!!!'''Island:''' Juicy Jungle
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bashmaster.png]]

A polar bear who fights with a large hammer, he is the boss fought in the Juicy Jungle, the fifth island.
----
* BearsAreBadNews: He's a polar bear with a hammer. Of course he's bad news.
* ButtMonkey: He loses his popsicle, keeps falling into the purple river everytime the Kongs hit him, and has to get punched by the Kongs at the end.
* CarryABigStick: He fights with a hammer as big as him that can even be [[AnIcePerson imbued with ice]] to power up his attacks.
* TheDragon: He might be this seeing as how he's the last general you fight before Fredrik himself, but there's little indication to suggest that he really is his right hand man.
* AnIcePerson: He can imbue his hammer with ice to create icicle waves or turn ice cubes into a mass of spiky ice.
* InASingleBound: He can jump so high that he leaves the screen.
* LostFoodGrievance: When the Kongs crash landed on his ice floe, he dropped his popsicle into the juice the ice floe was floating on, where it's immediately devoured by [[PiranhaProblem piranhas]]. [[BerserkButton He doesn't take it well.]]
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: He has a very realistic design compared to the rest of the characters in ''Tropical Freeze''. He's still capable of cartoonish expressions, but not as much as the other Snowmads.
* OddNameOut: He's the only one of the five world bosses who doesn't have an alliterative name.
* SpinAttack: One of his attacks involves spinning his hammer and imbuing it with ice before hitting an ice cube, turning it into a spiky, spiraling mass that even Cranky can't jump on. When he does his sliding attack, he also sometimes spins, which leaves him dizzy and open to a bop on the head.
* TurnsRed: His fur gradually turns purple as the fight progresses. Justified, as the Kongs keep knocking him into the purple juice surrounding the battlefield, staining his fur purple.
* VillainsOutShopping: Prior to the boss fight, Bashmaster was just relaxing on an ice floe enjoying a popsicle.

!Troops
[[folder:Tucks]]
[[quoteright:287:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tuck.png]]
A species of penguins. They form the bulk of the Snowmads' forces.

Variants include: Pointy, Speedy and Trench Tucks, Painguin Tucks and Papa Painguins, Archies, Boom Birds, Soaries and Big Sphens.
----
* GiantMook: The Big Sphens are pretty large compared to the other Tucks, being similar in size to the Waldoughs.
* TheGoomba: Your standard Tuck footsoldier is the most basic enemy in the game.
* TheSpiny: The Pointy Tucks introduce the concept of horned Snowmads, who cannot be jumped on.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Waldoughs]]
[[quoteright:453:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/viking_art8___donkey_kong_country_tropical_freeze.png]]
A species of walruses. They're the strongest of the Snowmads.

Variants include Fish Poker Pops, Walnuts, Walbricks and Chum Chucker Charlie.
----
* EliteMooks: Any Waldough will require up to three hits to be defeated, and some like the Fish Poker Pops are a bit more complex to defeat.
* WilyWalrus: Enemy walruses.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Hootz]]
[[quoteright:324:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/viking_art6___donkey_kong_country_tropical_freeze.png]]
A species of owls. The aerial force of the Snowmads.

Variants include Hot and Blue Hootzes, Pufftons and Tufftons.
----
* AirborneMook: Hootz are always found flying around, never in the ground.
* GiantMook: The Pufftons and Tufftons are far larger than the average Hootz and take more hits to defeat.
* OminousOwl: Enemy owls.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: Their overall bodyshape greatly resembles that of Tiki Buzzes, and as far as gameplay behavior and role are concerned, they're the same thing.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Fluffs]]
[[quoteright:323:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/viking_art7___donkey_kong_country_tropical_freeze.png]]
A species of hares. They're good at hopping around.

Variants include Tuff Fluffs, Harolds and Haries.
----
* FluffyTheTerrible: Don't let the name fool you. They're vicious vikings.
* HairRaisingHare: Enemy hares.
* GiantMook: Harold and Harey are bigger than the average Fluff.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Lemmingtons]]
[[quoteright:619:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lemmington.png]]
A species of lemmings. They ride spiked hamster wheels and tend to patrol scalable surfaces. They're pretty rare enemies.

----
* InvincibleMinorMinion: There are only two ways to defeat one of those, both of which are highly situational: Cranky's cane bouncing or a GroundPound right next to them if they're upside-down.
* RodentsOfUnusualSize: They're very large for lemmings, who are hamster-sized in real life.

* FeatherFlechettes: His projectile attack.
* KingMook: Of the Hootz.

* TheSpiny: Their helmets, obviously.

Variants include Fish Poker Pops, Walnuts, Walbricks and Chum Chucker Charlie.

* GiantMook: The Pufftons and Tufftons are far larger than the average Hootz and take more hits to defeat.
* OminousOwl: Enemy owls.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: Their overall bodyshape greatly resembles that of Tiki Buzzes, and as far as gameplay behavior and role are concerned, they're the same thing.

----
* InvincibleMinorMinion: There are only two ways to defeat one of those, both of which are highly situational: Cranky's cane bouncing or a GroundPound right next to them if they're upside-down.
