* TookALevelInKindness: Kawaki goes from an aggressive, antisocial boy who's rude and shows no respect towards other to a much kinder, calmer person thanks to the kindness of Naruto and his new brotherly relationship with Boruto.
* TrainingFromHell: The training Jigen put him under was one where the man constantly beats the boy with his staff while verbally abusing him. In the manga Kawaki clarifies that as much as he despised the training he believes it did at least make him strong.
* TraumaButton: Ino simply putting flowers in a vase, causes Kawaki to flashback to the time when he was used as a lab rat for Jigen's horrible experiments, lefting him to pant in horror.

* NotSoDifferentRemark: Despite his "Sasuke-ish" personality, his own experiences are not that different from Naruto, both being utterly alone and experiencing distrust and being hated by others for a power they never asked to have in the first place.

* TallDarkAndSnarky: He is among the tallest teenagers, and is very cynical and brooding.

* UndyingLoyalty: In present times, he is so loyal to Naruto that he proudly declare that he'd rather die than live in a world where Naruto does not exist.
* TheUnfettered: Contrasting Boruto, Kawaki is much more willing to kill someone who opposes or angers him. He also swears he will "get stronger no matter what it takes", only to protect Naruto.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: As a young child, Kawaki was non-threatening and a naive child who was very curious about fishes despite his abusive childhood. Then Jigen happened...

* WeaksauceWeakness: Kawaki is seasick, and he is not exactly helpfull.
* WouldHitAGirl: Kawaki has no problem to provoke Sarada into a fight.

* HandHidingSleeves: His sleeves are longer and wider than his resting arms. He uses these to surprise his enemies with stretched arms and snake swarms, as well as to covertly release surveillance snakes that can report back to him. Funnily enough, during his and Boruto's stint in Hozuki Castle, his prison jumpsuit likewise has long sleeves for this purpose.

* FingerlessGloves: In addition to his outfit, he wears long black fingerless gloves.

* TheAce: Mitsuki doesn't make a point of showing it very often, but his abilities may very well be the strongest of the new generation of Konoha shinobi. He was explicitly designed [[spoiler: to be genetically perfect by Orochimaru]].

* AmbiguouslyEvil: His future self for some reason fights Boruto and [[spoiler:he may have murdered Naruto]], but his choice of words are ambiguous enough to be interpreted many different ways. We also don't know how truly evil he is, or if he is evil at all.

* DualityMotif: Kawaki's left hand is imprinted with the kama from Jigen, while his right hand is a gift from Naruto. In literature and other media, [[RuleOfSymbolism the left side often represents the villain]], while the right side the heroes. Now, which side will Kawaki choose in the DarkFuture?

* ForegoneConclusion: We know he will survive the story at least until the DarkFuture shown in the prologue and that he will be getting another Karma seal one way [[spoiler:(from Amado)]] or another.

* AnArmAndALeg: Kawaki [[spoiler:sacrifices his right arm, blocking Delta's [[EyeBeam attack]], when she tries hitting Naruto by targeting Himawari]]. He gets a prosthetic that Naruto has to knead chakra into in order to make it function (as the arm is a copy of the one made for Naruto and operates off his chakra) and later gets one that functions on his own chakra.

** He used to treat Boruto with contempt at first. After the fight with [[spoiler:Isshiki and Boorushiki]], he finally accepts Boruto calling him brother, and calls Boruto "stupid bro".

* {{Deuteragonist}}: In the manga, he shares equal spotlight with Boruto once he is introduced. In the anime, he zigzags between {{Deuteragonist}} and {{Tritagonist}} with Sarada, as she receives more attention in the anime, having her own arcs paralleling him and Boruto.

Like him, he has had a very distant father, is very [[TheStoic stoic]] and dislikes Naruto at first as he was used/manipulated by an older man seeking to profit off his growth and power. They also have similar personalities at least in their youth by being distrustful of others and aggressive. Both also were initially antagonistic towards members of the Uzumaki Clan, Naruto and Boruto respectively, before warming up. Each seems to be a "counter character" to their Uzumaki Rival and will have/had life and death battles with them.

* WhenHeSmiles: Very, ''very'', '''very''' subtle but Kawaki sports a small one when [[spoiler:Naruto defeats Delta, returning this smile when Naruto gives him a big victorious one]].

** Sarada fills the spot as the Fighter for her team. In terms of Taijutsu, she is physically the strongest, but while being very intelligent, is more focused on raw power compared to her teammates. She also has less showings in Ninjutsu than Boruto, and Mutsuki is much more crafty in battle.

* ShockAndAwe: All original members of Team 7 have affinity for lightning release and have their own specific techniques, but their are also capable to combine their lighting justus to use it in cooperation ninjutsu.
** Boruto is capable to apply lighting to create a new form of Rasengan and has other several lighting based jutsus.
** Sarada copied several lightning jutsus from [[DarkActionGirl Buntan]], but she is also capable to use the famous ''Chidori''.
** Mitsuki has a unique use of lighting, he can combine it with his Sage Mode.
** Unlike his students, Konohamaru is not well versed in using lighting jutsus, but he still has a jutsu that showed up only in the anime.
* SuperiorSuccessor: While the original team 7 was no slouch, very rarely did they work together. Sasuke while strong was an ArrogantKungFuGuy, while Naruto was also strong, but he was an IdiotHero. Sakura was [[CantCatchUp unable to keep up with the two of them]]. The new team 7 however is filled with members who are more talented and skilled than their predecessors were at their age, but unlike them, their characters all allow each one of them to work together in sync, allowing them to accomplish far greater feats than the previous generation.

* TrueCompanions: Although Boruto and Sarada had initially butted head and Mitsuki was a bit awkward to be around, the three grew to be inseparable companions, so much forth that Boruto and Sarada were both ready to risk their rank as ninjas to retrieve Mitsuki after he supposedly deserted the village while Mitsuki was willing to risk his own life for the two's safety.

* TheReveal: In an incredibly nonchalant manner, Mitsuki reveals to the shock of his teammates that he is the son of [[spoiler:Orochimaru. Whether Orochimaru is his [[GenderBender mother or father]] is left ambiguous but in truth, Orochimaru is a TrulySingleParent and Mitsuki is lab grown from an embryo.]] In contrast, in the anime [[spoiler:Mitsuki's identity is revealed by Naruto to a group of different people with Boruto and Sarada listening in, shocking everybody]].

* TheRunaway: Mitsuki inexplicably flees Konohagakure, and was considered a traitor, though he later returns.

* ScaledUp: He has mastered Snake Sage Mode.

* TheStoic: Unlike Boruto and Sarada, he doesn't show much emotion. In fact, he seems to only have two emotions: neutrally serious or pleasantly happy (though it's hard to pinpoint if this is genuine sometimes). He seems to genuinely enjoy the company of his team though, especially Boruto whom he has a continuous admiration for. He feels more than he lets on, especially as his personality continues to grow and mature, but feelings other than the aforementioned ones rarely reveal themselves on his face.
* StoryBreakerPower: Even without Sage Transformation, Mitsuki is so adept as a fighter, that he can easily take out most opponents with relative ease. With Sage Transformation, Mitsuki is stronger than most Jonin in the village put together. Most conflicts and fights would be easily solved if Mitsuki would just fight with his full strength if it wasn't for the plot often writing him out of most combat so the conflict ''wouldn't'' be solved in an instant. That said, he also has a few genuine reasons to mitigate usage of Sage Mode. Aside from not wanting to attract more attention/fear from the public at large that could cause problems for Konoha, Mitsuki considers using Safe Mode dangerous to himself as its unclear just how much of it even his supposedly "ideal" body can handle without breaking. Notably when he pushes himself against Ku he ends up collapsing, unable to maintain the mode for more than a minute or two.

* StrongAsTheyNeedToBe: Mitsuki often hides how powerful he truly is. Only a handful of people even know that he has a Sage Transformation and he hasn't been given a chance to show how much of a powerhouse he really is. In fights, Mitsuki only fights with the amount of power he thinks he needs in the fight, only tapping into his trump card only when the situation gets extremely dire, usually when he believes Boruto is in danger.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Has inherited Orochimaru's golden eyes and pale skin, but more so with his older brother Log, to who he bears an exact resemblance.

* NotSoDifferent: Despite his "Sasuke-ish" personality, his own experiences are not that different from Naruto, both being utterly alone and experiencing distrust and being hated by others for a power they never asked to have in the first place.
