* EldritchAbomination: Even without being undead, his ComboPlatterPowers lean towards this.

* BattleInterruptingShout: Attempted to do this after getting [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech a verbal beat down]] from Whenua regarding using his "friends" to attack the Vahki. It doesn't work though and he instead ends upp in the middle of the fight.

* FillerVillain: His only real purpose in the story is to provide an obstacle for the Toa Metru as they sail for Matu Nui and provide some backstory for Whenua.

* EvilDuo: With Nidhiki, much to his chagrin. It's slightly {{downplayed|Trope}} with the later reveal that there was a third Dark Hunter dispatched to Metru Nui, but as he stays on the border and never sets foot in the city proper, he doesn't affect this dynamic.

* {{Mooks}}: The primary enemies of the second half of ''Adventures'', but they're upstaged by the Rahkshi and the Skakdi for the Brotherhood, though still present.

* TheTeam:
** TheLeader: Norik.
** TheLancer: Iruini.
** TheBigGuy: Pouks.

** TheChick: Gaaki.
** TheQuietOne: Bomonga.

* TheArtifact: The two released Toa Hagah sets were originally intended to be Toa versions of Dume and Nidhiki before being converted into Norik and Iruini. As this change occurred fairly late in the development process, the two retain some of Dume's and Nidhiki's design hallmarks. Norik's mask happens to be shaped like Dume's Kanohi Kiril, but it is a functionally different mask altogether called the Kanohi Pehkui. Meanwhile, Iruini's Kanohi Kualsi has facial fins reminiscent of those found on Nidhiki's mutated face. These design relationships have absolutely no bearing on the narrative.

* [[NiceGuy Nice Girl]]: Easily the nicest of the Toa Metru overall.

* [[MrExposition Ms. Exposition]]: Significantly {{downplayed|Trope}} (especially since Vhisola's not the one doing the expositing), but as a Ga-Matoran student, Vhisola's done research into the Morbuzakh, which confirms Vakama's assertion that the Great Kanoka Disks can defeat the plant creature.

* FantasticFlora: Just like it successor, it was a giant sentient plant (though more a "moss monster" than "vine monster") created for the purpose of capturing the Matoran of Metru Nui...except it was less interested in "capturing" them and more on "[[KillEmAll killing them and destroying the city]]."

* KillEmAll: Is rather upfront with the Toa Metru about the fact that if it were up to it, it would have killed the Matoran population of Metru Nui and brought the city down to rubble for no better purpose than the fact it wanted nothing but their destruction, rather than their loyalty or servitude like Makuta.

* ContrivedCoincidence: They all have deep -- and rather less than positive -- personal connections to the Toa Metru.

* SpottingTheThread: After regrouping and swapping stories about their respective adventures finding and rescuing their respective Great Disk Matoran, it takes the Toa Metru almost no time at all to figure out Ahkmou is the traitor in their midst.

* LeeroyJenkins: Vakama when the Hordika arc starts, as he grows increasingly more impatient with failing to rescue the Matoran and starts taking more pronounced risks, to the worry and annoyance of the others.

Nuhrii was Vakama's mask-making mentor, who grew jealous when the student surpassed the master. He planned to forge the Great Disk he found into a mask unlike any other.

* GreenEyedMonster: To Vakama, who didn't take well to how Vakama SurpassedTheTeacher.

* {{Yandere}}: A somewhat downplayed and evidently platonic example. Vhisola isn't actively murderous or psychotic, but is still incredibly possessive of Nokama and perfectly willing to allow the Toa Metru to fail as long as she gets her teacher all to herself.

* UngratefulBastard: {{Averted}}. While he does express to Matau after being rescued he never liked him for his recklessness and that he's certain becoming a Toa won't change any of that, he still honestly thanks Matau for saving him.

* StereotypeFlip: An impatient loudmouth who doesn't fit in with the rest of the quiet, studious Ko-Matoran. In fact, it was the simple fact his personality was so at odds that prevented him from being given a Knowledge Tower of his own.

* TokenGoodTeammate: He's easily the best out of the six Matoran, being at worst a bit eccentric and ambitious.

* AscendedExtra: ''Twice over.'' His first major story role was as a secondary antagonist in the Mata Nui Online Game and his second was as a minor character in the Metru Nui storyline. Lorewise however, he's perhaps one of ''the'' most important Matoran in the story, for all the wrong reasons.
* DirtyCoward: Each time he's featured he runs away at the first sign of trouble.

* PuppetKing: [[spoiler: He doesn't have much real power as "Turaga" other than enforcing Teridax's will, making him more of a MouthOfSauron than anything.]]

* SnakeOilSalesman: He fell into this niche on Mata Nui, trying to sell various scam items to other Matoran. This turned sinister after it became clear that Teridax had subverted him, as he distributed Kohlii balls corrupted with the Makuta's power in order to drive Po-Koro's people to insanity.

* WeUsedToBeFriends. With Whenua.

These six Matoran knew the location of the Great Disks that the Toa Metru needed in their quest. Unfortunately, they had lass than positive relationships with their respective Toa back when they were Matoran, and most of them had their own plans for the disks. To make matters worse, there was a traitor in their midst, one who could potentially doom them all...

* VillainousFriendship: With Nidhiki, probably due to their shared pariah status among the Dark Hunters after the latter's failed betrayal of Lhikan during the Toa-Dark Hunter War. (Of course, it's very likely that she didn't tell Nidhiki that she was under orders to ''[[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness kill him]]''[[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness should his betrayal have succeeded]].) When the Shadowed One informs Nidhiki that he's partnering him with someone for missions, Nidhiki immediately assumes that he's referring to Lariska; alas, he very much isn't.

* TheCaptain: Was the leader of the Toa Mangai. Keyword is "was", as each one was systematically killed or, in the case of Nidhiki and Tuyet, made a FaceHeelTurn. By the time of the Metru Nui Saga, he was the only one left. He also at one point led a 300 toa army against an invading army of Dark Hunters. However they disbanded soon afterwards.

* EccentricMentor: To Nuju, Whenua, and Onewa.

* ILetGwenStacyDie: Was this to Vakama, who Lhikan saved by surrendering himself to the Dark Hunters. He himself also felt this way about his original Toa team, who told [[SurvivorsGuilt him to escape while they held the line against an armada of Frostelus]].

* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: His swords can combine and form a shield, which doubles as a surfboard.
* TheParagon: Was seen and revered as such by the population of Metru Nui, both as the leader of the Toa Mangai and eventually the city's sole remaining protector due to his actions and victory during the Toa-Dark Hunter War. After Dume began to become more of a recluse [[spoiler:really Makuta having replaced him]], Lhikan stepped in to take a more active role in governing as well as protecting the Matoran, which only further endeared the people to him.

* TakingTheBullet: For Vakama when fighting Teridax.
* WeUsedToBeFriends: He and Nidhiki were once on the same Toa team. It's turned particularly venomous by the time of the Metru Nui storyline too.

* OnlyInItForTheMoney: If the price is right, they'll do just about anything. That said, the Shadowed One will allow operatives to indulge in personal desires (such as revenge) as long as they don't compromise the mission objectives, and he himself hasn't always separated [[RevengeBeforeReason personal reasons from business sense]].

* DumbMuscle: Though shockingly, he's ''not'' the dumbest Dark Hunter. That title goes to Airwatcher.

* MightyGlacier: Very slow in both mind and body, but very powerful.

* SuperStrength: Not a rare ability in-universe, but Krekka was so inhumanly strong that Makuta Gorast cited a punch from him as one of the strongest blows she'd ever received. Which is notable as the other incident she mentions is [[NoodleIncident being on the wrong end of a]] '''''[[{{Kaiju}} Tahtorak]]''''' ''[[AnimalStampede charge]]''.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: Averted on his end of the partnership with Nidhiki. Krekka was usually perfectly fine with following Nidhiki's lead on missions despite knowing of the ex-Toa's dislike of him, save when Nidhiki started scheming for his own profit.

Witty and quick to voice his dislike for anything, Nuju, as other scholars, stressed the importance of looking toward the future. As a Turaga, he speaks solely in the tongue of flying Rahi, feeling that only those willing to put forth the effort to understand him are worth his time.

* BadassBookworm: He constantly displays an excellent knowledge of Rahi, as well as being quite badass.

* HumblePie: The 2004 storyline is arguably an extended version of this for him. Every single one of Vakama's visions that he loves to mock come to pass, and while [[FlatEarthAtheist he remains outwardly dismissive of the premonitions]], he eventually admits that he actually ''does'' believe in them as well. Vakama winds up saving his life twice, and he comes to sympathize with Vakama's visions after suffering a MindRape from a krana-kraata hybrid in Makuta's lair. * TookALevelInBadass: Unlike the Toa Mata/Nuva, who were born Toa and trained by the Order of Mata Nui, and the Toa Inika/Mahri, who were all Matoran who survived for 1000 years on the island of Mata Nui against wild Rahi, the Bohrok swarms, and the Rahkshi while also relying on the wisdom of past generation of Toa; the Toa Metru were all originally simple Matoran workers who lived pretty mundane lives. Then they got their powers, and through a series of events they were shaped into a group of heroes who went so far as to stand against this universe's equivalent of [[SatanicArchetype Satan]] and landed him one of his biggest setbacks ever in his plan to dominate the Matoran universe.
* TransformationTrauma: The Hordika mutations took a considerable toll on the Toa, though some took it worse than others and Vakama took it hardest of all.
* TheUnchosenOne: They eventually learn that Makuta implanted their names into Lhikan's mind to keep him from creating the "true" Toa Metru, which causes no small amount of angst for them since the reason they failed to save the Matoran the first time could easily be chalked up to them simply not being destined for it. [[spoiler:Thankfully, Vakama learns it was actually part of a BatmanGambit by Mata Nui]].

Vakama started life as a simple mask maker before becoming a Toa. He struggled with insecurity and self-doubt in his role, and had strange visions of the future well. Eventually, he overcame his issues, and used the wisdom of his past to become a kind and encouraging Turaga.

* BrokenAce: He rises from humble beginnings as a simple mask-maker, leads the Toa Metru against some of the greatest threats the city of Metru Nui ever faced, [[UltimateBlacksmith creates a Kanohi on par with one made by the Great Beings]], defeats the Visorak horde, outwits and outplays both the Shadowed One and Makuta Teridax, and lives to tell about. He's also a FailureKnight who had to watch his home be reduced to ruin, his Matoran friends imprisoned and lose their memories, unable to save his mentor and idol from a HeroicSacrifice, turned into a BeastMan along with his team because of his own recklessness, temporarily betrayed what he stood for in the midst of insanity, and ultimately had to pass the torch to others to defeat Makuta once and for all.
* CharacterDevelopment: Probably the most in-depth in the entire storyline. He went from cripplingly self-doubting rookie to bitter loner with hurt pride to wise leader.

* ADayInTheLimelight: The novel ''Time Trap,'' which is almost entirely about him, with the other Metru getting a line or two at best.

* GuileHero: Vakama's wit has been key to his major victories as a Toa; most notably both triumphs against [[BigBad Teridax]] and the Toa Hordika's defeat of Roodaka. That's also not getting into how he managed to sow the seeds of the Dark Hunter-Brotherhood war in a bid to escape with the Mask of Time.
* HeroicBSOD: Vakama gets pushed so close to the DespairEventHorizon (due to his increasing hopelessness over rescuing the Matoran, his [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone own guilt]] over [[LeeroyJenkins causing]] the [[BeastMan mutation]] of his team, and the possibility that he [[TheUnchosenOne wasn't even meant to be a Toa in the first place]] he [[FaceHeelTurn readily accepts]] Roodaka's offer of command of the Visorak Horde just to gain any opportunity to fulfil his team's duty.

* {{Jetpack}}: Vakama Metru's Disk Launcher doubles as one. He only learns this after a BrainwashedAndCrazy Nokama knocks him off a ledge.

* TheLeader: Aside from a few grumblings from Onewa at the beginning, he is unambiguously seen as the leader of the Toa Metru.

* RedEyesTakeWarning: Inverted, Vakama gets green eyes when during his FaceHeelTurn, but gets his original red eyes back in his HeelFaceTurn.

* StaringDownCthulhu: He does this to [[BigBad Teridax]], who (almost) admits that Vakama is a WorthyOpponent.

* UltimateBlacksmith: Specifically a "[[MaskOfPower mask]]-smith". He was one of the best mask-makers in Metru Nui before becoming a Toa, and would use that ability to forge the Mask of Time from the Great Disks.

* ContrastingSequelProtagonist: With Pohatu, the previous year's Toa of Stone. While Pohatu is friendly and optimistic, Onewa is rather unfriendly and doesn't get along well with his team's leader.
* DeadpanSnarker: Goodness gracious, is he ever, particularly around Vakama.

* {{Foreshadowing}}: During the climb to the Great Disk, Onewa has the horrifying thought that they might not have been meant to be Toa. Later, he's the one who discovers the evidence that Makuta forced Lhikan to choose them over the correct candidates. [[spoiler:Thankfully they are the correct Toa Metru after all]].
* MindControl: His Kanohi Komau, Mask of Mind Control (but the control only lasts as long as he keeps his focus). He can also, when angry enough, [[MindRape unleash a devastating mental assault on his enemy]] (but again, it only lasts as long as he keeps his focus).

* BalefulPolymorph: Her Rhotuka Spinner's power produces permanent grotesque transformations in her victims that only reversible by another hit from them. She transformed Nidhiki from a Toa into his insectoid appearance and turned all of the Toa Hagah into the Rahaga [[spoiler:though she was forced to reverse it during the Order-Brotherhood War.]]

* PersonalityPowers: Roodaka loves nothing more than to torture and cause misery in others while watching them. Her Rhotuka Spinner, thus, [[BalefulPolymorph induces monstrous, permanent transformations on her victims that leaves them recoiling in horror]].

* BalefulPolymorph: Roodaka mutated the team into their Rahaga forms for their BodyguardBetrayal.

* BladeOnAStick: All are equipped with these in both forms, such as Norik's Lava Spear and Iruini's Cyclone Spear (though the Rahaga versions are closer to {{Simple Staff}}s).

* ChainsawGood: Matau's Kau Kau Staff, which is basically a SimpleStaff [[XOnAStick with a buzzsaw on the head]].
