* NiceGuy: He’s as sweet as a cinnamon roll and even when he’s broken by Griffith’s betrayal, he still maintains that kindness. That compassion serves as a backbone for his moral fiber and refuses to join Griffith’s new Band of the Hawk out of his principles.

* Hypocrite: Zodd prides on his code of "honor" in not fighting the small and weak, but he has no problem at all with allowing his more savage comrades to massacre innocents, and did nothing to stop Wyald until he endangered the fifth member of the Godhand. He's also content being a loyal attack dog for Griffith, who is about as dishonorable as you can get, and joins in an attack on Flora, a humble and kind elderly woman who Griffith saw as a danger to his plans. Given he's an Apostle though, that's probably the most "noble" you can get.

* BadBoss: Not nearly as bad as Wyald but as one of Griffith's commanders he really doesn't seem to give a shit about his soldiers, casually crushing one's head for trying to back out of fighting Guts.

He appears as a blank-eyed, DarkerAndEdgier version of RobinHood. His Apostle form is that of a shaggy, HellHound-like beast from the waist down while his upper body is similar to a werewolf. His lower-body beast sports two long horns that he can use as a great bow, and his hair transforms into both bowstring and ammunition.

* ForgottenFallenFriend: Defied hard. Guts' whole reason for going on the warpath against Apostles is to avenge his comrades' deaths, Rickert personally laid out the hill of swords to memorialize them, and The sheer, callous indifference Griffith shows to his men's deaths further cements Guts and Rickert's disgust with him.

fan-speak only trope

* Bishonen: He's around Guts' age, but has a much lighter build and a feminine face, though not to the same degree as Griffith.

* Bishonen: By the time Guts comes back with Casca after the Conviction Arc, he's grown into a slim, beautiful teenager who's nonetheless getting stronger and on his way to manhood.

* Bishonen: As of the final battle against Ganishka, we can see why Sonia has the hots for him...

* Bishonen: Quite the good-looking pretty boy. When Captain Bonebeard gets him in his clutches in Vritannis, he remarks that he could sell Mule as a male SexSlave to some Kushan harem for a hefty price.

Dark Chick has been disambiguated

* DarkChick: Not much of a fighter, her role in the Neo-Hawks is more supportive than anything but still important enough to be kept around. And although she's not exactly "evil" in the strictest sense of the term, her morality is still dubious, if it's even there to begin with.

mulato???

* AmbiguouslyBrown: His ethnicity is never mentioned, so fans speculate that he might be a mulatto or part-Native American. Which is funny, because Miura told Yukari Fujimoto that he based Pippin's appearance on himself, which would make him the only Japanese character in Berserk.

* Foil: Strangely enough, he's one to Serpico and Schierke, despite them looking as different as night and day. It's more apparent by the fact that the three of them are among the most prominent members of Guts and Griffith's second party after the two-year time-skip and each of them plays a vital role for their superior.
** Zodd and Serpico are their leader's right-hand men and are excellent swordsmen. Their main difference comes from the fact that Serpico's loyalty to Gus is based on mutual respect while Zod's loyalty to Griffith is based on a Darwinistic desire to follow the strongest being there is. Finally, Serpico's combat style is mainly finesse while Zodd is defined by brute force with deceptive intellect and speed mixed in.
** Zodd and Schierke serve as their leader's closest confidants, though were forced to join them due to circumstances, and both of them have a strong interest in Griffith and Guts respectively. Outside of their blatantly different appearances, Zodd is only following Griffith because the latter is the strongest being he's fought and mainly follows Griffith around to find stronger opponents, though Griffith only sees Zodd as a useful pawn at best. Schierke develops a crush on Guts but otherwise does acknowledge his romantic feelings are solely toward Casca and comes to see him as a figure to depend on as an ally and friend, and Guts reciprocates Schierke as one of his best companions. While Zodd is clearly the most powerful in Griffith's New Band of the Hawk, Schierke is the only one in Gut's Party who is able to bring Guts back to normal in case he slips into his Berserker Armor state.

* AxCrazy: Trope; he's bloodthirsty and brutal, common traits for an Apostle, and is not above killing others in visceral, gory detail. That said, he does have a strict code of honor and limits himself to directing his bloodlust toward those whom he could see as a WorthyOpponent, hence he appears to be relatively tame and even reasonable in comparison to other Apostles who are more explicitly insane and voracious about killing.

Grunbeld serves as the FinalBoss of the 2004 video game VideoGame/BerserkMillenniumFalconHenSeimaSenkiNoSho, and is a boss in VideoGame/BerserkAndTheBandOfTheHawk. * AnimalMotifs: She likes comparing people to birds: she's a kite, Griffith's a hawk, Schierke's an owl and Mule almost got his own species as well (a mallard) at one point. Other than that, Midlanders are ducks and Apostles are dragons.

* OffModel: Episodes 8 and 9 of the 1997 anime has him drawn more conventionally attractive than his canon appearance to the point it is easy to mistake him for a different character entirely. The latter installment also makes his skin darker than usual.
