Danma "Dan" Kuso is the main protagonist of the anime series and the boisterous and fearless leader of the Bakugan Battle Brawlers.

Dan is a boy who really loves Bakugan, but gets frustrated easily. His greatest ambition is [[ToBeAMaster to be the number one brawler to ever live]], which is what he attains at the last episode of the first season. He tends to act rash and impulsive which often leads him to trouble.

* CharacterDevelopment: At the start of the series, Dan was brash, hot-headed, aggressive, and never planned his next move ahead. He truly believed that power was all that was needed to win a Bakugan battle. After he meets Drago and goes through several battles, Dan realizes that strategy plays a giant role in Bakugan and opts himself to plan ahead. Along with his skills as a brawler, Dan develops as a human being over the course of the series and becomes much more humble, less immature, and thinks his decisions through during the later seasons.
* ChickMagnet: Yup. Runo is quite obviously in love with him (and the finale actually makes them an outright OfficialCouple), Julie ''had'' a huge crush on him during the beginning of the series, Alice (and Julie) mentioned she wanted to give Dan a kiss for how brave he was, Mira was definitely feeling him during ''New Vestoria'' (and Dan was apparently aware of this and would've hooked up with her if it wasn't for the rather unsavoury implications of [[{{Polyamory}} having two girlfriends]]), and it was implied that Fabia had a crush on him as well. The only main girl in the series that never shows romantic interest in him is Paige.

* ItsAllAboutMe: Had this attitude in Season 1 and Season 4. While Season 1 was justified as Dan was only just a stubborn 13-year-old rookie who bit off more than he could chew, Season 4 made little to no sense as Dan's growth was halted and his personality reversed, going from a caring and understanding leader to a reclusive jerk that brushed aside advice from two of his closest friends. In both cases, he did get better.

* ShipTease: With many girls but mostly with Runo and arguably Mira. These shipping moments happen less and less as the series stops having girl characters being a prominent part of the series.

* UndyingLoyalty: When Dan had lost his official battle with Masquerade and ended up getting Drago banished to the Doom Dimension (which ''everyone'' knew was the equivalent to hell), Dan ''ran after him without a moment's hesitation and jumped in with him''. That's right, Dan was willing to ''give up his life on Earth just to remain by Drago's side''. If the kid's got one thing, it's loyalty.

* WorldsStrongestMan: Considered the best Brawler on Earth and is always Ranked # 1 on the boards. There are very few Brawlers around that can match him, especially considering the frequent evolution his partner Bakugan go through. Even though he lost his title to Anubius during his match, it was mainly because Drago was busy trying to contain his power and not endanger the safety of the fans watching. If it had been a fair fight, Drago would have easily won the match.

* BadassCrew: Definitely. As the core of a team fighting the antagonistic forces to SaveBothWorlds. Dan is the most powerful brawler on Earth, Shun is equally powerful and he's in addition a skilled ninja and Marucho is the TeamBenefactor of the group and a BadassBookworm.

Dan is a boy who really loves Bakugan, but gets frustrated easily. His greatest ambition is to be the number one brawler to ever live, which is what he attains at the last episode of the first season. He tends to act rash and impulsive which often leads him to trouble.

The strong silent type. Along with Dan, Shun co-created the rules and regulations of Bakugan and is a master of the game. Shun is a loner, a boy of very few words, yet is willing to help his friends at every turn. He approaches the game like a Ninja warrior, very calculating. Shun uses the wind attributes in battle. Many fans like to pair him with Alice, although throughout the series he has shown tiny interest in Julie Makimoto.

* BadassBaritone: Drago has a deep voice, as is befitting of a dragon.

* NotSoStoic: Despite being introduced as the stoic ninja, Shun's cool façade is ultimately just an act born out of the grief of losing his mother (or in the dub's case, his grandfather isolating him) causes him to push his friends away. It breaks when his mother is on her deathbed and Dan reminds him that he's not alone.

* BrokenBird: Losing his mother caused him to shut out essentially everyone in his life except for Skyress to a degree. With the help of his friends, he gets better.

* DubPersonalityChange: Out of all of the Battle Brawlers, Shun's the only one to have a somewhat major deviation from his original backstory thanks to changes to both his mother, who simply slipped into a coma in the dub rather than passing away, and his grandfather who wanted to force Shun to focus on his ninja training thus causing Shun to greatly resent him. As a result, instead of having given up on Bakugan out of grief, his grandfather basically forced him to stop seeing his friends and playing Bakugan. As a result, he's a much more brooding and sardonic lone wolf-type of character as opposed to the original Japanese dub where he's shown to be a rather gentle and quiet person dealing with grief.

* NotSoStoic: Despite beinf introduced as the stoic ninja, Shun's cool façade is ultimately just an act born out of the grief of losing his mother (or in the dub's case, his grandfather isolating him) causes him to push his friends away. It breaks when his mother is on her deathbed and Dan reminds him that he's not alone.

* UsedToBeASweetKid: Downplayed as he's still a kind character, flashbacks during the first season show that he was much more outgoing, energetic, and social prior to his mother's death.

* ParentalSubstitute: In the dub, she takes up the role of Shun's mother figure, and frequently serves as a voice of wisdom. When she departs him in New Vestroia, she tells Ingram to take care of "my Shun", indicating that she sees him as a son.
