* {{Foil}}: To Aegon the Unlikely. Both were low in the line of succession of their Houses and never expected to rule. However, Aegon spent his youth traveling with Duncan the Tall, living among his subjects and making plenty of friends. This helped him grow into a stable and confident king who was devoted to improve the lives of the smallfolk and he wasn't afraid to go against the wishes of high lords to do so, causing him to be hated by the country's nobles. Meanwhile, Tytos most likely spent his childhood sheltered in Casterly Rock and neglected in favor of his older brothers. So when he grew up into the ruler of the Westerlands, he was eager to do or give anything to have the approval and attention from those around him, which resulted in his vassal houses taking advantage of him and mocking him as a pushover.
** He's also one to King Aenys I Targaryen, son of Aegon the Conqueror; both were good men and loving fathers, but abysmal rulers, leaving their more ruthless but capable family members (Tywin and Kevan for Tytos, Maegor and Visenya for Aenys) to deal with various crises that occurred during their rule, including incurring the wrath of a prominent enemy (Houses Reyne and Tarbeck for Tytos, the Faith Militant for Aenys). Unlike Tywin, who was frustrated with his father's weaknesses but still loved him, Visenya and Maegor absolutely despised Aenys for Aegon electing Aenys as his heir over Maegor (unlike Tytos, who became Lord of Casterly Rock only after his elder siblings were dead), so Maegor usurped Aenys' son after his death (and if rumours are to be believed, Visenya accelerated Aenys's death when he fell seriously ill).

* {{Foil}}: His circumstances were very similar to those of his Stormlands' counterpart Royce Baratheon. They were both the only sons with several older sisters whose fathers were killed during the Dance of Dragons and became Lords when they were mere children.

* MandatoryUnretirement: After his second son and heir Tion was killed in the Fourth Blackfyre Rebellion, Gerold took the reins of power again to train his third son Tytoz to be Lord of the Westerlands after having more or less left ruling to Tion (and letting Ellyn Reyne exploit that).

** That said, his method of trying to rein in Dalton Greyjoy wasn't particularly effective; he just sent ravens demanding the Red Kraken cease raiding the Westerlands, all of which Dalton promptly ignored and carried on as before. It wasn't until Dalton was murdered by one of his salt wives and Lord Jason's widow took matters into her own hands and sent troops in against the ironborn, and Tyland was dead by that point.

* AdultFear: Not only his homeland was sacked as soon as he was killed, his mistress and three base-born daughters were taken as [[SexSlave salt-wives]] by the Red Kraken.

* OutnumberedSibling: He had five older sisters, Cerelle, Tyshara and three other unnamed sisters.

* NoRespectGuy: Despite all his efforts to bring peace and stability back to Westeros, Tyland went to his grave hated by everyone: the smallfolk considered him sinister and malevolent, the Blacks hated him for advocating Aegon II should kill Rhaenyra's son, and the Greens hated him for serving the son and heir of their enemy.

* GoodParents: Despite being a... shall we say inefficient ruler, ALL of his children remember him as a good father. Even ''[[TheDreaded Tywin]] [[TheStoic Lannister]] himself'' has admitted that even though he hated his father's weakness, he [[EvenEvilHasLovedOnes sincerely loved his father]] and fondly remembers him as [[NiceGuy "a good man.]]

* BadassMustache: Described as having a long, golden mustache.

* FacialHorror: During his torture at the hands of the Blacks, he was severely disfigured to the point that he wore a hood over his face during formal occasion. Ladies were known to faint the first time they saw his face.

* SerendipitiousSurvival: Was most likely only spared the purge of Aegon II's supporters by the fact he was away in Esson when in occurred.

* FamousLastWords: Tywald asked Tion to "take care of Lady Ellyn."

* {{Foil}}: His circumstances were very similar to those of his Stormlands' counterpart Olyver Baratheon. They were both the only sons with several older sisters whose fathers were killed during the Dance of Dragons and became Lords when they were mere children.

* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: Considered Walder Frey a good man.

* UnfitForGreatness: In the higher echelons of Westerosian society (where underhanded politics and backstabbing is the norm), being deemed a kind, but weak-willed, man isn't going to go over all that well. And, will get used against you.

* YourCheatingHeart: He was married to Johanna Westerling, but he also had at least one mistress at Lannisport.

* HiddenDepths: Dismissed as weak, useless and with a defective ability to judge others... Yet, Ellyn Reyne-Tarbek didn't get anywhere with him, whereas she ''did'' make inroads with his supposedly better and more prepared older brothers. Maybe, had he been given a little more education and care as a child, he'd have been a lot less of a "disappointment" as an adult. He, at least, saw her as only hot for the Rock.

* CainAndAbel: If the rumours about him being responsible for Tybolt's death were true.

* PlotTriggeringDeath: His death not only left his army at the command of less experienced men, it also left his homeland vulnerable to the predations of Dalton Greyjoy and his Ironborn.

* KickTheSonOfABitch: While he refused to have Alicent Hightower executed (if only because doing so might incite the Greens to war again), he refused to allow her to attend court, for fear she might openly try to assassinate the young Aegon or at the very least curse him in front of his entire court. After Alicent also deeply traumatised Aegon's wife, her granddaughter Jaehaera, by urging her to kill Aegon in his sleep, Tyland forbade Alicent from ever interacting with her granddaughter again and kept the Dowager Queen under house arrest in her quarters in the Red Keep until her death.

The Lord of Casterly Rock during the reign of Aegon III Targaryen. Born as the only son of Lord Jason Lannister and Lady Johanna Westerling, he became Lord when he was only four years old when his father was killed at the Roverlands.

* InTheHood: To hide the horrific disfigurement of his face, he began wearing wearing a silken hood over his face on formal occasion. However, this had the effect of making him look like a MalevolentMaskedMan and giving him an even more sinister reputation.

* WouldHurtAChild: After Aegon II returned to King's Landing and the Blacks refused to stop fighting for fear of his retribution, Tyland suggested killing Rhaenyra's son Aegon to deny the Blacks their remaining figurehead. Corlys Velaryon was outraged by the suggestion and stormed out of the Small Council, and Larys Strong persuaded Aegon II to forgo any attempts to harm Rhaenyra's son until the war was over, for fear of sending House Velaryon straight back to the Blacks' cause.
