* WaveMotionGun: The Ideon Gun, despite also being known as the Wave Leader Gun, is actually an [[NonIndicativeName aversion/subversion]] to the trope, as it doesn't fire the standard beam found within Wave Motion Guns. Rather, it fires '''miniature black holes'''.

* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Mostly averted with the humans, who have relatively normal hair colors, but played straight with the Buff Clan characters, most noticeable with Karala's father, Doba Ajiba, who has blue hair.

* InfantImmortality: Nastily subverted in the movie [[spoiler: All of the kids die, some ''very'' gruesomely. Messiah himself dies with Karala, when Harulu shoots her dead. Ashura gets her head obliterated by a missile, and Deck gets incinerated by ''Gando Rowa'''s WaveMotionGun.]]

** Goes right into FridgeLogic territory when you realize that almost all Buff Clan characters (the only exception being members of Daram Zuba's private military) wear white clothes and spacesuits. This might be understandable for the army, but the Buff Clan group that started it all is explicitly stated to be an archeological expedition.

** If you believe a certain one-shot manga penned by Tomino, implying that the Universal Century of Gundam is the Universe that replaced Ideon's, and that [[spoiler: Judau, hero of ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundamZZ Gundam ZZ]]'', is actually Cosmo reincarnated]], then yes, things get a ''lot'' better.
*** The fact that the world of UC Gundam, which is torn apart by horrendously destructive giant robot wars every couple of years could reasonably be said to be a significant improvement really says something about Ideon...
*** And yet it's true. Even the crapsackiest parts of the UC timeline were petty disputes compared to the CrapsackWorld that was Ideon.
*** It got better in ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAlpha 3'' too if you made the right choice in the later stages. Picking the other option though put you on one hell of a downer end, even more so when you realize that they drew EVERY single [[Anime/GunBuster STMC/Space Monster]] to their location after they blew up Buster Machine 3 (They are BILLIONS). Good guys were screwed no matter what they did even if Ideon didn't explode. And they're even more screwed once everyone dies, [[spoiler:As [[BigBad Keisar Ephes]] hijacks the universe's rebirth and succeeds in creating a realm of eternal suffering, with everyone who died becoming his torture playtoys for all eternity.]]

** Also averted - again, in a memorably ''nasty'' way - in ''Be Invoked''. Ashura, one of the Solo Ship's orphan-mascot-type kids is [[spoiler:killed brutally via a bazooka shot that just... obliterates the poor little girl's head in an instant. ** In episode #7, Karala says that her homeworld is next to the Gido nebula, whose 2 halves are called Zenji nebula and {{Gundam}} nebula.

* AllThereIsToKnowAboutTheCryingGame: There are plenty that have heard about it's KillEmAll ending despite knowing ''nothing else'' about it.

* CreatorBreakdown: The whole show is based on Tomino's mood...

* NoAnimosityInTheAfterlife: [[spoiler:At the end of ''Be Invoked'', the souls of the main characters are shown to interact peacefully with the HumanAlien Buff Clan, with whom the main characters have been at war with for the entirety of the series. This is likely due to the understanding brought about from the Ide.]]

** In order for the Ideon to function, it needs an ungodly amount of power. The Ide is what supplies it the power needed in order to move. While most HumongousMecha shows would use that to {{Handwave}} how the giant robot functions, it ''doesn't'' get glossed over here, as its infinite fuel source is the driving force for much of the conflict that happens in the story. When you have something that can supply infinite energy, every ''will'' be gunning for it, even if it means war.

** [[spoiler: It's theorized that the explosion destroyed the entire universe... Then rebuilt to start anew. And if a certain tie-in manga implies the new universe is Gundam's.]]
