Griffinguy24: I put {{Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann}} here. And I absolutely LOVE Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. I love it to death. I added the entry because a) I figured someone eventually would and b) despite my love for the show, I realize that it's about as sophisticated as a guy wearing deedly-bobbers and laughing at dead baby jokes. But sophistication takes a backseat to the sheer quantities of awesome (And I mean that in the literal gobsmacked, awe-inspiring, swallow-your-gum awesome in certain cases). Gurren Lagann is good, but it's not 'serious', and if you try to describe it in serious terms, it falls flat in comparison. I'm not belittling it in any way (As though there's any way I COULD belittle {{Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann}}).

Darkdata: Does Eragon really have to be here? It's really more of a guilty pleasure than a bad book...

Hylarn: Yes, it really does.

SAMAS: So is Better Than It Sounds. What's your point?

BrightBlueInk: The page isn't about shows and books that are bad, necessarily. It's about making it sound better/more groundbreaking/award-winning/etc than it actually is. It's Just for Fun. I mean, Cromartie High School is actually one of my favorite anime, but I still added it. Speaking of, is this the reason my Naruto entry was deleted? Because if so, I'd like to argue that it should stay, on the grounds that I wasn't saying the show as bad, just far less epic than my description made it sound.

Frank75: Why on Earth is Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann here? I didn't see it, but everyone else is praising it... can it be worse than it sounds?

SAMAS: Not exactly. Look at it this way: Better Than It Sounds makes things sound sillier or plainer than it really is. Worse Than It Sounds is supposed to make it sound like something that would get nominated for an Oscar (True Art is... et cetera).

Inkblot: Is there anyone who hates Ishtar and has actually seen it?

Darkdata: Someone should add webcomic to the list, the snarkers can take care of the rest.

Pteryx: Seems the YKTTW never made it here, nor many of its attempts, so here.

DomaDoma: Arright, the Milton Friedman entry needs a serious overhaul - someone missed the point of the page.

Cliché: Since I created it, tell me the problems with it and I'll modify or remove accordingly.

Twin Bird: Er...I can't actually tell the difference...especially the Anime and Manga section, where none of the works have a substantial Hate Dom as far as I know. Especially Gravitation, where the text could have been copied out of a real synopsis.

Cynthia Wakefield: The entry for Castlevania Judgment is great, but the entry for Castlevania seems to be missing the point. It's just an accurate synopsis. Also, the general opinion of the current (DS) series among gamers seems to rate at awesome or better, so it's not going to be easy to write one.

Lord TNK: Just write it up as though it was one of the great all time classics.

Be: I don't mind Ciaphas Cain being listed here, but the look of the entry makes me think whoever wrote it got lost on the way to Better Than It Sounds. Anybody else?

Gentlemens Dame 883: Ciaphas Cain was my fault. I hoped I've succeeded in making it "worse" by trying to pass it off as an epic Deconstruction of Accidental Hero.

fleb These trope ones don't exactly deviate much from an accurate description. Particularly the second one.

  • TV Tropes Wiki: A worldwide collection of highly dedicated and focused men and women collaborate on a database of literary and narrative devices, covering the ways in which these devices are used throughout various forms of media and times.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: The hero does things that you never thought they'd do and his companions finally get the guts to notice and complain.

rutheni: Not sure if the first can be made to sound like Oscar-bait. Perhaps dress it up like a corporate mission statement?

  • "A synergistic collaboration of driven team members. A low barrier to entry encourages client-side participation in the marketplace of ideas. By centralizing certain interpersonal interactions, a high degree of leverage is achieved within the digital domain." Translation: "A wiki what's got memes in it."

Gentlemens Dame 883: That is awesome.

AkatsukiDaybreak: The Naruto entry is completely inaccurate considering that (1) Naruto has no clan to be able to learn the secrets of, (2) there's no indication that he's looking to find out what happened to his parents or that their fate will be a major plot point, and (3) I'm pretty sure he's more concerned about the guys trying to rip out the monster inside of him than the monster itself. I'd rewrite it myself, but I really don't think I could come up with anything that wouldn't sound like just a description.

BrightBlueInk: Bah, sorry, that's my fault—I was going off of my memory from what I'd seen on CN before I lost interest, plus a few things I'd seen fans say on forums and the like. Someone with more knowledge of the series is free to rewrite it to be more accurate.

Ouroboros: I gave it a try. Again, like others, tried to make it look like Oscar bait about discrimination and racism.

Fly: Cutting:
Fallout:A man is exiled from his childhood home and must seek an artifact to gain back the favor of his people. Along the way he must work with questionable allies who are willing to shoot him in the back at every opportunity, but he evenutally comes to love these allies, and is driven to tears by their deaths in an epic escape seqeunce.

because Fallout is neither bad or silly enough to be here, and that summary therefore is epically describing somethng epic. Which isn't funny.

Antwan: I'm removing the "are you sure it shouldn't be in the other page" comments, because I feel they kill the effect. If you want to ask about it, do it here.

Falcon Pain: Writing up Warcraft III's plot to resemble He-Man's is hilarious, but wouldn't that mean that the example implies that He-Man is the superior work?

Twin Bird: I have to say, that Mystery Men blurb is absolutely Made Of Win.

Spoony: Agreed. Making it sound exactly like Watchmen? Genius.

Lord Seth: Should the entries be alphabetized like the Better Than It Sounds is?

Great Pikmin Fan:

same troper: BEST entry on the page.

Great Pikmin Fan: Is it possible to write survive this to maek it look like Total Drama Island?

Capt Famous: I'm removing the addendum to the Batman And Robin blurb, because pointing out that a movie is So Bad, It's Good isn't the point of this page. Also, it isn't So Bad, It's Good, it's So Bad Its Horrible.

Bardic Feline: Someone got their information a bit wrong in regards to the Song of the South entry; it wasn't based off of the amusement park ride. Both ride and aforementioned movie were based off the collected folkstories about Br'er Rabbit and co, the Uncle Remus stories. (Pretty certain I got the title wrong there, but I know for certain that it was a book first.) In other words [[Older than they think]].

Mag Flare: I don't think the entry for Knights Of The Old Republic actually makes the plot sound any better than it is — it's just a faithful and accurate retelling of the game's events. Should it be removed, or would anyone like to take a crack at improving that entry? I'm at a bit of a loss.

Count Spatula: Took out the Monster example, because it was taking an excellent series and making it seem merely "ok." Totally opposite the point of this trope, in other words.

  • Monster: A renowned brain surgeon sticks it to the man by disregarding orders and saving the life of a young child. Filled with politics, life-or-death decisions and mouthwatering meals, this is one hospital drama you don't want to miss!
