openAuthor's Saving Throw - Correct use? Videogame
- Author's Saving Throw: Among the most infamous That One Levels in Splatoon 2's Octo Expansion are the ones where Agent 8 must roll an 8-ball across an obstacle course to a goal. Dropping the ball into a pit means failing the test and losing a life — and you will drop the ball, thanks to the finicky physics and tight paths you have to roll them across. In Side Order, ball-rolling stages return. The first time you enter one, Pearl groans "Not again!" in dismay... only for Acht to tell her to cool it, because these balls can't fall off the stage.
openEiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes Restoration Videogame
The original page was (understandably, as it was three years ago) cut due to it being unreleased at the time - but now the game is less than 24 hours from release (and in fact is already in the hands of Kickstarter backers and has been beaten in full by a handful of them).
Could we restore the page so tropers can begin properly editing?
openTrope Examples Folders: When to use the "Other" folder? (for genres) Videogame
Hi, I noticed a whole ton of tropes listed under any given media are often not crosswicked to the trope page as examples, so I've been meaning to do that whenever I can.
This might be pedantic but when should I use the "Other Games" folder vs just making a new genre folder to put the example in?
For example Absurdly High Level Cap has many examples in its "Other Games" folder. Some of these games could probably be moved to their own genre folders now. But there's also some folders which only have single examples- games could have gone to "Other Games" instead (I imagine it would be pointless to change that now unless there's too many folders one day).
So what's the best course of action when adding a new entry and there's no fitting genre folder (yet). Put it in "other"? Make a new folder unless there's too many folders already? Or does it not even matter?
Thanks.
openST3 cover art Videogame
So, how am i supposed to add a note listing the characters from Sakura Wars 3 that are in the image (I know their names), but is it supposed to be clockwise, up or down or left to right?
Edited by SpongeBobFan2004openEdit war on BOTW/TOTK GameBreaker page Videogame
On August 13th, 2023, some time after ATT trimmed the subpage, this entry was added to Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom's Gamebreaker page, which was eventually changed by troper MJ Trooper to this:
- The air bike is a simple build of two fans pointed downward at a 45 degree angle attached to a steering stick. It's quick, easy to control, can be used infinitely unlike Wings and Balloons, and once you have autobuild, you can construct an air bike anywhere for only 9 pieces of Zonaite. Given how one of the game's main challenges revolves around navigating the environment, the air bike utterly trivializes this. No location is out of reach with this vehicle.
On September 2023, I removed it along with a couple other entries for being a case of Square Peg Round Trope, but it was added back by MJ Trooper a few days later with no edit reason.
Months later, after troper pointillist unilaterally made a large change to the page, I took it to the cleanup thread and got approval to revert the changes and sent the appropriate notifier. I also removed a couple other entries, including the air bike entry (forgetting that I did it before since it was months ago, my bad), with the edit reason of the entries "either exaggerating basic mechanics or otherwise fail to explain how they break the game to the point of being divisive."
A few days later, MJ Trooper added it back wholesale again without an edit reason.
Edited by Super_WeegeeopenWho has the most experience with Joke Characters? Videogame
Earlier today, I created the Analysis.Joke Character page, where I tried to explain the different ways these characters are made (such as being underpowered, having unbalanced splats, or having hindering gimmicks).
I initially wanted to also add one example for each variety to better explain the situations: for example, I wanted to put Magma Rager for the "Only One Good Stat" category, Farfetch'd (specifically the Pokémon Yellow incarnation) in "Wrong Person At The Wrong Place", and one of the secret characters from Gourmet Fighters for "Literally Unplayable".
But I couldn't think of examples (that I knew of) that would fit the "Bad Perfomances" and "Built This Way" categories.
Is there a place in this site where I can ask for suggestions?
Edited by TMH-Sir-Iron-VomitopenUnilateral Change Videogame
Toffolus unilaterally changed the pronouns of the character A in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - The Founders, citing the newly-released art book. Given some of the other things in the book they decided to not change (Nikol and Glimmer's ages are different, for example), this comes across as a wonk.
They also included this edit reason https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=Characters.XenobladeChronicles3TheFounders&page=21#edit40210361
Requesting a reversion since they're going for the serial tweaking route.
Edited by PresidentBritopenHow do I upload a new image onto a character page? Videogame
I have a JPG image of Eddy Gordo from Tekken 8 I wanted to put for his character file under Tekken 3. But this is the first time doing something like this so I'm kinda lost. Am I supposed to upload the image onto a specific page of TV tropes and then use the URL for that to upload it onto the aforementioned file?
openExaggerated villainy on Princess Peach: Showtime Videogame
I saw a questionable entry on Princess Peach: Showtime! that claimed the final boss wanted to kill all the Theets as part of her endgame; having just beaten the game and seen nothing of the sort in her or anyone else's dialogue I was confused—at most she destroys the theater and can potentially destroy the island if left unchecked, which is bad, but nowhere near what a Final Solution is.
I deleted the entry on the game's page and Grape's character sheet while explaining the reasons, with links to the scenes in question, but Fireball246 readded the entry on the game's page with a rude edit reason that appears to have been cut off.
Edited by lalalei2001openVery new to the wiki, I have a couple questions Videogame
I tried to make my first page, one on Vectoid 3D TD, a Tower Defense Game on Scratch. Things ended up coming out badly, so I have a few questions from least to most important:
- First, what link will give me a page named "Vectoid 3D TD", or if no link gives that then how can I force that name? The page I made for Vectoid 3D TD has the name "Vectoid 3 DTD", I assume due to capitalization.
- Second, can a mod please either delete the old page or, if possible, redirect it to the new one? As a new troper I do not have the power to access the cutlist, and I doubt any of us want a impurity like that laying around.
- Third, why is it that the information I made in the visual editor originally came out wrong, and is there a way to prevent this? I'm fine with using the non-visual editor but i'd prefer the visual one.
Thank you for reading all this, and sorry that i'm such a newbie. It's my first time using this format though. I'm sure things will go better next time for me!
openTrying to recreate a CSP a bit too quickly Videogame
For context: Characters.Trails Series Crow Armbrust was recently merged with Characters.Trails Series Erebonia Thors Class VII Original Part Two ( a page I launched since the main OG Class VII page was getting two long) since Crow's page is not 250k characters long, as per the new CSP policy.
So troper salvadorfranz, has been editing the Characters.Trails Series Erebonia Thors Class VII Original Part Two page (as seen here) to add more things to Crow's folder to make it even longer (the edit reasons stating that the goal is to reach 250k characters). This is kind of sudden, since Crow's page was moved yesterday. Additionally, they are both misusing a few tropes (like Child Prodigy being listed even though Crow is now an adult) and using tropes that more narrative based than character based.
What should we do?
open(The sort of maybe) Harsher In Hindsight misuse... again Videogame
/TW: abuse/SA mention/
It took me a lot longer to realize, and something I last expected to be misused, but back in December of last, this Genshin Impact example was added to the Video Game sub-page of Harsher:
- Tighnari’s voice lines (at least the original ones done by Elliot Gindi, Tighnari’s original voice actor) in Genshin Impact(specifically, “What are they gonna do, lock me up?”) sting very badly knowing that Gindi had been abusing minors with his status as a voice actor.
Ignoring the fact that this is the only example of Genshin being added to that page at the (the game's YMMV page has a lot of In-Universe Harsher examples), this feels like misuse. While it's true that the line has been memed to death for darkly humorous purposes, if you take the line in context, it's more about him doing courses for the Forest Rangers without permission from the Akademiya and doing such would be considered "dissemination of information" according to Nari - while Gindi was fired for something similar ("breach of contract" according to MiHoYo), nothing from that line implied or insinuated that Tighnari used his power as a teacher to abuse his students (and hypothetically, it will be Out-of-Character for Nari since one of his patients and fellow comrades is a victim of abuse themselves). Furthermore, fans of the character have learned to separate the art from the artist and hate it when you associate that character with their now-disgraced voice actor. Seemingly the closest connection to Nari and his old VA is that the Dramatic Irony between their situations (Nari takes care of abused and disabled child who views him as a brother to her, while Gindi used his fame to abuse minors, some of whom had mental disabilities). I apologize if I may come off as a bit to insensitive in this post, I spent the majority of the day editing the character pages for Black★Rock Shooter.
Edited by ToonAbbyopenPotential LEGO City: Undercover ActorAllusion? Videogame
In LEGO City Undercover, the character Vinnie Pappalardo is voiced by John Guerrasio, who also did voicework as the Brickster in Island Xtreme Stunts. Since both are characters of criminal intent featured in LEGO games, would Guerrasio's role as Vinnie in LCU qualify as an Actor Allusion to his role as the Brickster in IES, or would there need to be a more clear cut Brickster reference in LCU for it to count?
openShould I crop repeat info from character photo? Videogame
I'm working on the character page for upcoming Edmund McMillen roguelike Mewgenics and I'm finally getting around adding images for the human NPCs, but there's a small problem: The images I'm using came from a pre-release blog post on steam, and in said images, character bios I've already transcribed into the page. Since I'm adding the images now, should i crop the bios out, erase the transcription I've already written there, or just put in the virgin images with repeat information in there?
Edited by ClicketyWhinnyopenVisualNovel/VideoGame split on trope pages. Videogame
If I want to crosswick/add a Visual Novel example in a trope page and it doesn't have a Visual Novels folder or subpage, should I create it myself, or should I put the VN under Video Games?
In the case that the Video Games folder already contains some VNs, is it better to move them to a new Visual Novels folder, or to leave it like that and add my example there?
Edited by animuacidopenDeleting YMMV Videogame
Alley Oop has a tendency to delete YMMV tropes from Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed if they personally disagree with them. I'd hash it out elsewhere but they gave an edit reason that raised an eyebrow.
I don't remember there being a rule about not troping audience reactions allegedly from a specific part of a fanbase. Am I right in thinking that's not the case?
Edited by PresidentBritopenFemale protagonist from P3P Videogame
So I was on the Persona 3 YMMV section and came across this entry, edited by Key Will Jay:
- The female main character herself is rather divisive. Some love her inclusion for providing an interesting "what if" scenario (and with the main theme of Portable being the butterfly effect, this also fits) and for her personality contrasting with the male main character while still keeping the "masking feelings" theme. They may also like how some of the less interesting Social Links get replaced with S.E.E.S. members. Others see her as unnecessary and believe she ruins the game's themes of overcoming despair and accepting death with said alternate scenario and personality, and dislike how SEES is made obviously friendlier in her route (a criticism fans of older titles sometimes level at newer titles in general). The memes and exposure surrounding her also induce Hype Backlash for non-fans and those that have played the console version but do not try Portable, calling her overrated. It was bad enough that when an alleged lead regarding a theoretical remake mentioned cutting out Portable content (which turned to be reality per the reveal of Reload), the fanbase split between those calling it a worst-case scenario and those celebrating the removal.
I’m not as active in the fandom but do people really fight over the female protagonist? Because I’ve never seen much divide over her. In fact, I’ve only seen people express their disappointment of her being excluded from Reload.

openEdit War Videogame
Back in January I touched up Extremis Ultimis, including commenting out a ZCE. Today, Infamous Empire uncommented the ZCE without expanding it. I sent them a ZCE notifier, but I cannot comment out the ZCE again (because that would be an Edit War) nor can I expand it (I am not familiar with the mod in question).
Regarding https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Fanon/PuyoPuyo, it was cut for good reason since I didn't really touch it then. Right now I have two examples for fanon regarding characters, so is it okay if i re-open it as long as I have at least TWO examples or something?
if yes, thank you so much since i really love puyo
