Find a Trope:
openDistinct males and females Anime
Is there a trope to describe a work that has male characters and female characters who look very different from each other, yet look similar to each other? Like in One Piece, where the male characters and female characters and female characters look very different from each other, yet the male characters have similar general designs and the female characters have similar general designs as well (especially with their faces).
openVisible Veins Anime
Not Tainted Veins nor Volcanic Veins, but veins that are still prominently visible, such as when blood flow is increased to a notable degree. I'm specifically thinking of the Byakugan from Naruto, and how when it's activate, the veins on the user's face around their eyes become more visible.
openAnime crazy angle? Anime
Is there a trope discussing the use of this angle to depict impending insanity? https://twitter.com/Cloud9/status/1243273207240478720
openOverprotective Male Lead Anime
I put this under Anime for now but this is a trope that really seems to pop up in South Korean manwhas and webnovels which is that the male lead/live interest (ML) in the orbit of the female lead (FL) will get very possessive of her regardless of the rest of their characterization. It usually includes a scene where the clueless FL witnesses the ML and another male character clearly going out of their way to prove who she likes more. The other man doesn’t even have to be romantically a rival - it could be a male friend, a father, brother, or even a child - even THEIR child! And woe the ML who is going up against an Overprotective Dad…
It seems to be seen as a positive trope in South Korea because men competing to show affection to the FL is a romantic power fantasy and the ML being so devoted as to be possessive is a sign he’s THE ONE. But due to Values Dissonance readers in Western countries understandably get very creeped out by it and notably complain about M Ls when they start invoking this. To the point where the rare romance that DOESN’T use the trope is praised just for showing a ML who is secure enough in himself and the FL’s feelings that he doesn’t feel threatened by every man on the planet.
This isn’t a Yandere - the ML will only resort to violence if someone is actually threatening the life or safety of the FL, not to win his ego-stroking contest. I’m trying to see if there’s a trope this culture-specific incarnation could fall under because even if there’s a Korean way it’s expressed I’m certain there must be a global trope.
openAnd as for you...! Anime
Character's angry with a group of people, yells at them one by one, gets to the last one, and "...as for YOU- you're fine"
openEnergy Dash Attack Anime
It's a kind of line attack where the hero mecha turns into or is surrounded by energy and dashes through enemies causing them to explode in the wake. It can be just a second or sustained flight. It's like they turn into an energy blast in a burst of speed.
open"I am the planet Earth itself!" Anime
In BanG Dream! Girls Band Party!☆PICO, I found that the ending clip for the third season has an initially darkened planet thing with a flashing light slowly reveal it... to be none other than Kasumi's Super-Deformed face herself! (It's present in most Garupa PICO FEVER episodes which can be searched on the internet, so I don't think I'll need to link for reference for this one)
I wonder if this is actually is already it's own trope?
Edited by JustNormalMusicLoveropenCrying in the Rain Anime
Exactly what it says. I could've sworn there was a trope by that name, but I can't seem to find it even on the Tear Tropes index. It's way to common a trope for it to not exist, usually seen during outdoor funereals and sad occasions like when a girl finds out she's been dumped.
Edited by MiinUopenAdaptational Illness Anime
Looking for a trope that fits the following discrepancy between Advanced V.G's portrayal of Daisuke Yajima's condition, in contrast to the OVA adaptation.
In the game series, Daisuke is said to suffer from an unspecified illness, but he seems relatively fine (he can actively play, attend grade school, etc.). Whereas in the OVA, he's so frail and sickly that he's bedridden at a local hospital and suffers shortness of breath and seizures.
Is there a trope that covers how his illness is considerably worse in the OVA, despite it being more of an Informed Attribute in the source material?
openBravery Born out of Ignorance Anime
A character seemingly shows bravery, but he is actually genuinely unaware of the dangers he sleepwalked into. Do we have this one?
Edited by KitezhopenA character is about to deliver a killing blow, but misses on purpose. Anime
After an arduous fight, Character Y has Character Z pinned against the ground, gun (or muscled fist) aimed at their head. It seems like it's over. We hear a BOOM! and the camera pans down to reveal a bullet hole/impact crater right next to Z's head. They have been spared. I see this all the time, and I was trying to find the trope for it, but I had no luck. Is there a trope for this?
openHoly Grail/One Piece Anime
The thing the protagonist wants and makes him pursue. Like the One Piece.
openJerkass Anime
Is there a trope for where a Jerkass gets called out on it? Like in anime, most of the time when a tsundere wallops a guy (think Louise/Saito from Zero no Tsukaima or Haru/Keitaro from Love Hina) nobody around really reacts. Some rare times though, a bystander will be like WTF? Why did you just do that?
Is there a trope categorization for when that happens?
openDelusional Illness Anime
When a character falls ill (commonly a fever) and they become loopy/delirious/delusional as a result.
Example: Kaguya from Kaguya-sama: Love Is War.
Is there a trope like this?
openMobile Game Tie-In Seasons Anime
Is there a trope for franchises like D4DJ and Bang Dream? The first season will be a prelude to the mobile game and focus on one set of characters to get audiences invested emotionally, then the game will come out and give each unit its individual story, and finally the second season will be an overstuffed mess where the writers throw a dart at a dartboard to pick which character gets some focus that week?
I know Rotating Protagonist, but I'm wondering if there's anything more germane to the Japanese multimedia business model.
openTrail after impact Anime
A big fight where a certain impact is so strong the opposing character "slides" across the floor leaving a large trail in the ground. It looks something like this https://preview.redd.it/n9vla3zsocs51.jpg?auto=webp&s=7b0e6b102864e2ae136447e6599451eb7dd3de5c
openRogue Clone Trope Anime
What is the trope for a clone that goes rogue against his/her prime self?
Edited by holygrail24
Tried to find something similar like Shout-Out or Homage, like a self-reference from what it adapted from. Though I'm struggling to find something remotely similar or I'm not searching the right keywords
