Locked Pages: Lock, UnLock and Edit requests

Go To

This thread is for requesting edits or unlocks to Locked Pages or for requesting locks. It can also be used for technical requests to moderators such as:

  • creating new pages in the Main/ and other restricted namespaces without going through Trope Launch Pad
  • moving discussion pages
  • moving reviews

Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  1. Check Locked Pages and Permanent Red Link Club first. They can provide guidance on what are good and bad requests.
  2. Include working links in your request to the page(s) in question.
  3. If asking for edits, state your changes exactly as they should appear on the page, including proper Example Indentation, namespacing, and pothole and quote formatting. And make sure that what you want to add is actually a valid example.
  4. We do not edit archived articles, even to correct links.
  5. If you need to have the capitalization of a page title or namespace of a work fixed, ask here.
  6. If you need to remove a ghost wick, go here.
  7. To request a page to be moved along with its history, go here.
  8. Some locked pages have ongoing cleanup threads, like Complete Monster (Thread), Five-Man Band (Thread), and Magnificent Bastard (Thread). Other than purely technical requests, edits to these pages ought to be discussed in these threads first.
  9. Also, we do not do direct edits (other than changing wicks) to Magnificent Bastard or Complete Monster example lists. Rather, you need to do the edit to a sandbox page that follows the format Sandbox.Magnificent Bastard<Name of the example subpage> and Sandbox.Monster<Name of the example subpage> (e.g for Monster.Disney it's Sandbox.Monster Disney) and ask for it to be swapped in on Saturday for Magnificent Bastard and on Monday for Complete Monster.
  10. Inappropriate pages that keep being recreated, pages banned under The Content Policy and subpages that are disallowed (like Headscratchers pages for tropes) are valid reasons for requesting page locks.

NOTE: Edited with OP's permission.

@9675 - Same reason Dorothy Parker's page is locked. One would imagine the lock will be temporary; after a page is locked, it doesn't take long for A Very, Very Stupid Person to forget that it was on his "'informal wiki' = 'no rules whatsoever'" list and stop trying to vandalise it.

Done to here, except for @9671 which needs a non-pothole source and correct bullet point usage.

Teen Titans and Dorothy Parker are both locked because of our dear friend Nate.

I didn't do them, but Chinese Mythology and Classical Mythology can be removed from WorkPagesInMain.A To C, and need to be added to Administrivia.Wick Namespace Migration not-so-complex section, Myth/ is the namespace.

Declining that one, since Myth/ is a namespace for singular myths, not for an entire system. That namespacing was done too quickly.

[up]Except it's been called for Myth/ and the question is "What shall we call the namespace for myths, legends and Oral Traditions?", also on that crowner was Mythology and Mythos. Myth won by a massive margin, and Willbyr called it. Since all the X mythology works are Oral Traditions, they go there, as far as I can tell, even if you didn't realise what you were asking when you copied the crowner header.

No, sire. That crowner covers myths, legends and Oral Tradition. Classical Mythology and Chinese Mythology are not "myths, legends and Oral Tradition" - they are a franchise-like that also covers art and written work.

This argument should be taken to suggesting new namespaces, as soon as we have figured out the music one.

I just moved Gaol Time to UsefulNotes.British Prisons and removed or changed all Gaol Time wicks using the Related-something-or-other tool. It can be removed from the Administrivia.Useful Notes Pages In Main index (and I assume Main.Gaol Time can be cutlisted, I can do that myself, no?).

Okay so I decided to browse through the main page for Final Fantasy VII and holy crap does it need some Example Indentation help. To give an example of one trope...

  • Boss Battle
    • Anti-Climax Boss/Zero-Effort Boss: The final final duel with Sephiroth. He can't kill you, and your attacks automatically kill him. Even if you wait long enough for him to hit you, you automatically counterattack and defeat him anyway.
    • Bonus Boss:
      • The WEAPO Ns: Emerald and Ruby.
      • Lost Number in the Shinra Mansion gets you Vincent, as well as the Odin summon and Red XIII's ultimate limit break.
      • The five pagoda bosses in Wutai get you Leviathan summon and Yuffie's ultimate limit break.
      • Snow in the Great Glacier is difficult to find, and for beating her you get the Alexander summon.
    • Boss in Mook Clothing: Numerous enemies in the Sunken Gelnika and in the Northern Crater.
    • Boss Rush: The Battle Arena.
    • Cognizant Limbs: Schizo, Carry Armour, Proud Clod, Helletic Hojo, Emerald Weapons, Jenova-Synthesis, and Bizarro Sephiroth.
    • Cowardly Boss / Get Back Here Boss: Ultimate WEAPON, which runs away after the first, and only mandatory, fight against it in Mideel. The player is then given the option of fighting it again. It must be fought several times with it running away each time after it's taken a certain amount of damage.
    • Cutscene Boss: Sapphire WEAPON. Diamond WEAPON was this in the original Japanese version, but an actual fight against him was added when the game went international.
    • Damage-Sponge Boss /Marathon Boss: Ruby and Emerald WEAPON, who have eight hundred thousand and one million hp , respectively, and you are only able to do 9999 at once, typical strategies for beating them involve using the Game Breaker summon a couple dozen times. The fight against Emerald WEAPON takes place underwater; you have to either kill it in 20 minutes, or undergo a simple sidequest to allow you to breathe water. Since that isn't very long against something with as many hp as Emerald WEAPON, most people go for the sidequest. Or you can beat it in 7 seconds.
    • Dual Boss: Three of the four boss fights against the Turks involve fighting two or three of them at once.
    • Duel Boss: Cloud and Rufus, Barret and Dyne, Yuffie and the Pagoda, and of course, Cloud and Sephiroth.
    • Final Boss, New Dimension: Bizzaro Sephiroth and Safer Sephirothnote .
    • Final Exam Boss
      • During the final battle with Sephiroth, you can switch your party members.
      • The game doesn't tell you this, but it's keeping track of how well you do in the fight against Jenova immediately before you fight Sephiroth. If you barely scrape by, the game takes pity on you, and you fight Sephiroth with only one party, which makes this a very straightforward boss fight. If you bring the hurt and totally wreck Jenova's stuff, you have to split your equipment and materia three ways; having one team defeat Sephiroth's left arm, one team for the right arm, and one team for his core... which will heal the arms back if you take too long. And if you used the infinity plus one summon on it, the final boss gets a boost to its HP. And what's even worse, the numerous parties need to be properly equipped, but once you beat the boss, your main party goes straight on to the Final Boss battle without giving you a chance to swap equipment in-between.
      • It's also made worse that if one of your team gets taken down, instant Game Over, even if it's not the team fighting the core (which fights Sephiroth's final form).
    • Flunky Boss:
      • H0512 fights with three H0512 samples. Rufus fights with Dark Nation. Gi Nattak fights with two Soul Fires. Hojo's first form fights with a Bad Rap Sample and a Poodler Sample.
      • Giant Space Flea from Nowhere: Schizo, the two headed dragon in the Icicle Cave. This mandatory boss fight was added to the American version of the game for no apparent reason. You can steal a Protect Ring from it, but other than that it has no bearing on the rest of the game whatsoever.
      • The Red Dragon that attacks the party in the Temple of the Ancients comes out of nowhere as well.
    • High-Altitude Battle: The optional fights against Ultimate Weapon are fought from the deck of the Highwind.
    • Recurring Boss: Several. Reno has to be fought twice with two optional fights, Rude has to be fought once with two optional fights, JENOVA has to be fought four times in different forms, Ultimate WEAPON has to be fought once and then becomes an optional boss which has to be fought several times to defeat.
    • Sequential Boss: Hundred Gunner and Heli Gunner in Shinra Tower, Hojo's three forms on the Sister Ray, the Northern Crater platform bosses and JENOVA-Synthesis, and Sephiroth's two forms.
    • Skippable Boss: The Turks in the sunken Gelnika will not appear if you've already had your final fight with them while stopping Sister Ray, which can also be avoided since it gives you the option not to fight.
    • Time-Limit Boss: Emerald Weapon. You have 20 minutes to defeat it since the battle takes place underwater, unless you complete a sidequest to obtain the Underwater Materia, which removes the time limit.
    • Underwater Boss Battle: Emerald Weapon.
    • Vehicular Assault: Motor Ball, the boss following the motorcycle chase sequence.
    • Warmup Boss:
      • Guard Scorpion in the reactor in the introductory sequence.
      • Buster in the Sector 5 reactor is, somehow, even more of a pushover. It's very possible to kill it in one shot without even intending to.

This was all listed under Boss Battle. I'm sorry for the formatting not matching the page perfectly, but it's way too huge and I can't just c/p it from the page editor.

@Karxrida: See the button called 'source' at the top? smile Click it and the page's text and coding are revealed and can be copied and pasted.

If you want, you use the Sandbox namespace (ie, Sandbox.FFVII Fix) or the Wiki Sandbox to lay out the text in the proper format, then post here with a link to the box for a mod to copy&paste the text. Then cutlist the Sandbox page.

Hope this helps! smile

Hello, I'd like to request an edit to No Real Life Examples, Please!:

  • Epic Fail should be moved to the narrative category instead of the complaining/flame bait/natter category, due to it being a narrative trope.
  • Ambiguously Evil should be added to the narrative category due to it requiring a writer's intent for the character to possibly be evil.
  • Ghetto Name and Wacky Americans Have Wacky Names should be moved to the gossiping/stereotypes category instead of the complaining/flame bait/natter category. I think it fits better with those categories.
