Given what the MLP fandom is capable of, a "religious pony song" honestly wouldn't surprise me.
I've realized there are certain similarities between Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit In The Sky" and Booker T & The MGs' "Green Onions".
You could line up Bruce Springsteen's Atlantic City and The Backstreet Boys' I Want It That Way and it'd sound like an actual song.
"I could eat a knob at night" - Karl PilkingtonBlack Sabbath's "Changes" has a very similar piano riff to Elton John's "Border Song".
Puff Daddy's "I'll Be Missing You" sounds a LOT like "Every Breath You Take" by The Police, weirdly enough.
"Thanks for the lesson. But I don't need you to tell me who I am."Not really, Puff Daddy Sampled The Police. It's actually pretty infamous for it.
The sample is intentional. In fact, Sting, the lead vocalist and bassist of The Police, owns 100% of the publishing royalties. He even performed the song with Puff Daddy on the 1997 MTV Video Music Awards.
I've seen a lot of people point out the similarity between the chorus of Sam Smith's "Stay With Me" and Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down", well now Smith has agreed to credit Petty and Jeff Lynne as co-writers and give them a share of the royalties. The statement says that the similarity between the two songs is a coincidence, so if that's true then Smith's team probably agreed to this just to avoid having to go to court.

If also sounds like the chorus of Phoenix's "If I Ever Feel Better"
Am I the only one who finds the case absurd? The chord progression for both songs is one of the most common ones. I must have heard hundreds of songs with the same chord progression without knowing so. The reason everyone, including me, don't realise all of these songs copy each other is because it's so common in modern music. We're conditioned to like the formula because most of us can agree it sounds good. It's also difficult not to compose a good song with the chord progression.
Nevertheless, I sort of defend Tom Petty because I love his music. If he just merely notes that both songs are similar, I'd think that's fine. Receiving a credit as a co-writer of the song? That's a bad move as far as I'm concerned. To say that I'm forgiving enough for having a mixed reception on this case is an understatement.
I KNEW that Ed Sheeran song gave me deja vu somehow. Looks there's at least one more white guy following up on Gaye.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.Petty was pretty classy about it. He calls it a "musical accident."

I find this whole situation kind of strange. The outcome of the addition of the co-writing credits and the royalty payout, which I think is a relatively harsh judgment, seems at odds with the attitude the two parties have had towards the situation. Both parties seem pretty chill about the situation, and both refer to the similarity as a coincidence, and yet the outcome suggests otherwise.
My guess would be that if they don't pursue the issue, the labels will do it for them.
Miranda Lambert said that she realized that she unintentionally cribbed a Steve Earle song for "Kerosene", so she graciously gave Earle a co-writer's credit. From what I hear, both parties are cool about it.
Knives And Pens by Black Veil Brides sounds like Unholy Confessions by Avenged Sevenfold

Feeling Gravitys Pull by REM sounds a bit like a Nirvana song at some points. I'm not really a fan of Nirvana, so I'm not sure which one it reminds me of.
The Magnetic Fields - "I Think I Need A New Heart" (specifically, the lead guitar part during the chorus) vs. the old Bumblebee Tuna jingle. It's even kind of acknowledged in the liner notes to 69 Love Songs, if I remember right - I don't have the booklet that came with the album anymore, but it was an interview between Daniel Handler and Stephin Merritt discussing every song, and I remember Handler pointing out the similarity.
this is a stupid one but Let It Go from Frozen sounds a lot like Robo Cop by Kanye West??? Or at least the backing does to me. maybe i'm deaf lol

i'm gonna be the kanye best like no one ever wasWell... "Let it Go" has an incredibly overused chord progression so...
*listens to song*... Wow.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page. The verses of "Pillars Of Eternity" by Down are basically the verses of "Behind The Wall Of Sleep" by Black Sabbath played faster and louder. This has to be a deliberate Shout-Out, because Sabbath are a pretty obvious influence of theirs in general.

Why do I keep confusing "Treasure" for "Thriller"?
"Anemone dear, I know you want to be more independent from me, but... please take care, okay?"Nine Inch Nails - Last
Godsmack - Time Bomb
For some reason I found this sentence from the article hilarious: "Some might object to mixing the Sacred Mass texts with a secular Pony Song". I guess because using the phrase "secular Pony song" would imply that there are also religious Pony songs.
