@ Mecha:
Ride Back. Which can Lagann Impact the larger alien crafts.

@ Kyon's balls: Cast iron?

@ Kunikida:
I was expecting some sort of Fase Heel Turn for a while now. I expect that it's going to go further, wether by Kunikida's concious choise or not. It would be entertaining, of course, seeing him go all "I know all your tricks now, Kyon, and I can do it better! You will pay for crushing my love!" But well, we already have one rival with power tools, Wataru. Most likely, Kunikida will be used to spread misinformation and misdirection. Maybe speading some rumor that prompts Sasaki to try and "fix" Kyon's relationships?

Speaking of Sasaki. The only opening quote that I can attribute to her is from a book named "Tending the Flame", see Chapter 44. There's too little there to guess what could have happened between her and the Brigade. I have to admit that I would like to see a "they were good friends and all got married" end. Still, that bit with [The author's name has been charred from the document] gives off a faint feeling of shame and "things better left unrevealed". So I suspect that at some point Sasaki seriously hurts, or is hurt by, Haruhi's marriage plans.

More small WM Gs:
1. The "T." in "Methods of Victory; T.H." is for Tsuruya, and H. is not for Haruka.
1.a. Same for the "T." in "Mirror, Mirror; T.K."
2. Nonoko does become a magical girl. As in, actual magical girl, or something equivalent. Permanently.
2.a. This involves a cute fluffy creature. Possibly white in color. If so, the magical girl status can be non-permanent.
3. At some point, Koizumi takes Kyoko to meet Kyon's little sister and her friend.
3.a. This is at the Touhou flash mob, and Miyoko is dressed as Parsee.
3.b. ...And she develops psychic powers on the spot. P-

3.c. Kyoko also gains an ability to use her esper powers, and Koizumi helps with training.

I wouldn't say that Koizumi has a harem. Sure there are a couple of girls interested in him, but he's really only shown interest in one of them. Par for the course for bishonen.

The esper ship is definitely setting sail, but I think that's the only one that will.

Control of jealousy. I suppose it's psychic powers of a sort. She's certainly good at posing for it.

The Nobody's musing about Sasaki suddenly has me thinking ...the fact that a lot of these chapter heading quotes are all "charred fragment this" or "recovered after disaster that" suddenly has me worried.

"Kyon! Take better care of your things!"

"They're five-hundred year old books! What do you expect me to do?"

"Ask Yuki!"

I... don't know why this came to mind. XD

Re: Kyon's driver licence.

How could I forget The Wiki Rule? After a while I found the proper article about it.

Provisional license (仮運転免許): Issued to a new driver undergoing training for their Class 1 license. Requires the driver to display learner's black-on-white plates on the exterior of the vehicle, and to be accompanied by a supervising experienced Class 1 license holder while driving. This license is expired unless a learner driver gains Class 1 license within six months.

Reading this article I learned something interesting. The minimum age for an "ordinary motorcycle license" (普通二輪免許), which authorizes the use of any motorcycle with engine displacement below 400cc, is sixteen. In other words, there is a somewhat justified reason for Kyon driving a Cool Bike.

Re: Pokemon.

All those references bring back some memories of my first computer. It was a 486 with 4 MB RAM, 160 MB HD and Windows 3.1 as OS. Pretty much a museum piece at the moment I acquired it. I still remember I had to use a PIF file to force the system to reserve 2 MB of RAM to run Pokemon Crystal.

By the way, I just recently noticed that there is a The Pokedex Extended Fanon Edition in TV Tropes. After skimming through a few of those pages, I must say I'm pretty impressed.

Re: Rumors.

Now I think about it, if someone (probably Haruhi) mentions something about the rumors running around Kitago to Sasaki, it's very likely that she would be able to connect the points and deduce that she was partially responsible of the situation. I wonder how they would react to that.

Re: Miyoko.

wild mass guess If Miyoko is Mikuru's ancestor and the boy with glasses is someone important to time-travelers, could it be possible that Mikuru is descendant of both of them and her family was involved with the development of Time Travel technology for generations and she was selected as an agent because of her family connections*

The topic's been tossed between myself and Brian for a bit, and since there are other reasons to have one set up, we're setting up a dedicated IRC channel for Haruhi fanfiction discussion. Folks here are welcome to join: irc.lunarnet.org, channel #kitago.

The channel won't just be about Brian's works or K:BDH (although those topics are certainly open for discussion), and there'll probably be a fair bit of shop talk about writing in general. Feel free to wander over to check it out if you're interested.

Re: Provisional driving licenses in Japan:

Does that mean Kyon still can't get one of those? I mean, I doubt Japan gives provisional licenses if people can't get the Class 1 license in six months (mostly because Kyon won't be 18 in six months)

Re: "Tending the Flame"

[The author's name has been charred from the document]
Well, author really couldn't leave T.S. in the open like that without beeing a wee bit too spoily in the light of WM Gs, righto? Or S.S. for that matter. And quote itself sounds like a tupical Sasaki musing-starter. She could go literally ANYWHERE from it, unrelated tangents included. Still, "book"'s title seems to suggest she presents more positive arguments there.

And then Kyuon goes on another round of woo... I mean friendly reassurance to Sasaki, this time possibly with 'hime, setting up a perfect opportunity for this two girls to get closer...

Re: IRC. I hope people won't move from here to there completely. Would be no fun to se this thread going down after getting this far.

I can get behind that idea.

It's not uncommon for a 400 cc motorcycle to be able to reach speeds of 130 mph. Kyon can control gravity. This is a great idea so long as Kyon remembers to always wear his helmet and parachute.

It was a 486 with 4 MB RAM, 160 MB HD and Windows 3.1 as OS.

I had one of those back in the day, with a blazing fast 25 mhz processor. Good times were had playing Star Control and its sequel. Always booting up into DOS because it made everything run faster, tweaking my autoexec.bat like an ancient ancestor of msconfig. It was quite a step up from the Apple II.

So I seem to be the only one who is concerned/interested by Chapter 50's revelation that the KBDH-verse's Calabi-Yau manifold is pretty much sapient (or gave birth to sapient Cosmic Beings), huh?

I pretty much figured that Kuyou was an intrinsic part of the universe by this point anyway. If life is a sport, she's like a cross between groundskeeper and line judge. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some sort of universe-scale Fisher King effect with her, since she seems like nothing so much as the moe anthropomorphization of a black hole. Maybe black holes play some as-yet unexplained role in keeping the laws of the universe running like they should, or they just anchor reality or something.

My point is that this literal equation of Kuyou and the SCD with multidimensional space itself while making no mention of other such existences for other aspects of reality and/or the physical universe runs straight into the supernatural (i.e. fantasy) area of Speculative Fiction, when the Haruhi Suzumiya-verse was pretty much all in the Sci-Fi area.

My interpretation of Kuyou: she's a diffuse portion (a portion, but not in any way localized) of the fabric of the Calabi-Yau manifold itself. In other words, while Yuki and Asakura are emissaries of what can be equated to an hive-mind entity that is much more on the Theistic side of the Animism-Theism sliding scale, Kuyou is not a god's emissary who fell in love with Kyon, but a thread in the fabric holding the multiverse itself together, and way more on the Animism side of the scale.

I hope i make sense.
