The World Of Tropes (Signup and Interest)

The World Of Tropes. A beautiful place, full of people from all walks of life. This world is made up of different interconnected areas, each based off of a different Trope. For instance, once you step close enough to the coast, you are automatically in a bathing suit, as well as any plot you had temporarily derailing until you leave; Therefore, the coastline exemplifies the Beach Episode trope. The areas can always be small and self-contained; multiple back rooms of dining and massage establishments temporarily inflict a person with some sort of addiction, which exemplifies a Very Special Episode instead. There are some "Neutral" areas, like big cities, but even these usually contain smaller areas. Some areas don't change a person's attributes or clothing, instead just... being the trope.

The people of this world also exemplify a Trope, but they work a bit differently: There are 5 ways people can go about a Trope: Straight (Played Straight; They are what the trope is, to the T, and their personality traits revolve around it), Lampshaded (They are similar to Straight, but they have a sense of humor about them and personality traits not directly connected to their trope are malleable), Deconstructed (The next logical step of Lampshaded, where someone is the Trope, but they spin it in a way which is reflective of other examples of the trope and iherently different, but also very similar. One of the most fun, but hardest types to pull off, or so I think. I've never done this style of RP before, so I'm not entirely sure.), Exaggerated (Straight to the highest logical extreme; They live, breathe, eat and drink their Trope; they take it Up To 11 and stay there, and they very much stay within the restrictions at all times) and Downplayed (The logical inverse of Exaggerated; They are their trope, but they are their own unique person beyond the trope, and they can easily bend or break some of the biopsychosocial rules that the trope provides). They are a good bunch of people, except for the bunch that aren't. They, for the most part, live in harmony, except when they don't.

Purpose: This is a Slice of Life RP based on The World Of Tropes, an (obviously) fictional place where all of the people there are either tourists, or representing a specific Trope in the TV Tropes catalog.

Guidelines:

• Forum Rules and Roleplaying Rules apply, as always.
• Don't take things too far, and don't be a Jerkass or anything like that in real life. Be nice and civil.
• Up to 2 characters are allowed per person without me granting permission.
• If your character has supernatural abilities, I will definitely not be accepting those Super Weight 3 or above, as this is not meant to be that kind of RP. I want this to be more Slice Of Life in design, with maybe a bit of Drama or Mystery, but still as much grounded in Real Life as an entire city of Trope Codifiers can be.
• I want a tone that is similar to the first half of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable, where there are darker nuances to the World of Tropes, but there is much more light-hearted exploration and camaraderie, as well as a Lighter and Softer spin on the Mystery genre.
• No Fake Tropes, Trope Personifications such as Tropey the Wonder Dog, and no established characters from any series. However, characters based off of entries from Darth Wiki and Sugar Wiki are fair game.
• And, most of all, have fun. I tend to be somewhat lenient as a GM, so if you have an idea or want to do something you're not sure is okay, just ask me.

Character Sheet:

• Name: This is what your character is called.
• Alias: Any nicknames, hero names, Aliases, or the like.
• Gender: Any type is allowed, as long as you handle it with class. If it is nonbinary, include the pronouns so people aren't confused.
• Sexuality: Any type is allowed, as long as you handle it with class.
• Appearance: What does your character look like?
• Personality: How does your character walk n' talk?
• Trope: What Trope is your character based off of?
  • Type: What type of representation are you? (Straight, Lampshaded, Deconstructed, Exaggerated, Downplayed)
• Abilities: What you can do. Can be related to the trope directly, indirectly, or not at all.
• Theme Song: Can be optional for some, but if you have, say, The Power of Rock, then this becomes mandatory.

• sexuality: asexual (they're not human so it would make sense)
• appearance: like a human teen. tall, unusually thin,pale, blue eyes, pale blue hair with blue antennae sticking out of the top. She wears a pale blue hoodie and pale blue acid washed jeans and sneakers (she is an alien)
• personality: shy, reserved, friendly, airheaded, disconnected from the world, caucious, can find humans (and the tropes they exhibit) confusing at times, often needs Brain Bleach when reading creepy/disturbing thoughts which she is very sensitive too, a tiny bit creepy at times
• trope: Telepathic Spacemen
  • type: downplayed
• abilities: Telepathy duh. and a bit of a Walking Techbane too, partly due to the telepathy

It's okay. I have two comments, one being about capitalization (Sorry, I'm a closeted Grammar Nazi) and the other being that when I say Theme, I mean a character theme, like a theme song. Sorry for the confusion.

Ok. I will have good grammar when I am actually in the rp thread and I've edited out the theme bit. One question: do you think my characters trope type is lampshaded, deconstructed or downplayed? By the way, was my application accepted?

I think it's closer to Downplayed than anything else. Oh, and Mindy is accepted.

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but this sounds interesting!

Anyway, my application:

Name: This is what your character is called. Raechelle Janine Wilson

Alias: Any nicknames, hero names, Aliases, or the like. Chelle, Rae, Raech

Gender: Any type is allowed, as long as you handle it with class. If it is nonbinary, include the pronouns so people aren't confused. Female

Sexuality: Any type is allowed, as long as you handle it with class. Prefers not to talk about it, but she is definitely not asexual

Appearance: What does your character look like? The same as Alice Vaughan from ABC's The Catch.

She dresses very similar too; dresses, skirt suits, black dresses, high heels.

Other than that, she is not based on her in personality terms.

Personality: How does your character walk n' talk? She's a Nice Girl, a Girly Girl, but also sensible as well. She isn't great at recognizing flirting, and is good at researching things.

She also has a tendency to be involved in many things.

Also a Big Eater, with Trademark Favorite Food of salt-and-vinegar chips and a large packet of Oreos.

Trope: What Trope is your character based off of? Alternate Continuity

Type: What type of representation are you? (Straight, Lampshaded, Deconstructed, Exaggerated, Downplayed) Lampshaded or Downplayed - not sure which suits the trope.

Abilities: What you can do. Can be related to the trope directly, indirectly, or not at all. Can create many Alternate Continuities as needed (but let's not make this a Story-Breaker Power), but also a good driver, likes cars, especially off-roaders and fast cars.

The creating continuities may be above the Super Weight issue though.

I may need to re-work the powers somehow to fit the rules.
