Yeah, Jesse's good for the imagery but not a good example at all. Some possibilities:
- Word Bearers Dark Apostles from 40K: 1◊, 2◊, 3◊
- Anthony Lilliman◊ from V for Vendetta
- All Father D'Aronique◊ from Preacher
Deacon Blackfire◊ from Batman: The Cult.
The 40K guys don't look like priests, and the rest of the suggestions are just talking about being bad.
Re: OP: "Best example" and "best page image" aren't the same. A good page image communicates the definition of the trope, like the text description it helps the reader understand what the article is about. More details about page image criteria are at Administrivia. How To Pick A Good Image.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. The image isn't of an example, but it is a good illustration (so to speak). I don't think we'll find a better image of "obviously bad" and "obviously a priest" that doesn't lean too heavily on the text.
Maybe just ax the caption down to not include the note message? Or at least make it more concise.
Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they prettyI really don't think we should keep the image if the man in it isn't even an example.
^^ I was with you until "I don't think we'll find a better image..." Sounds like a challenge.

- fan art◊ (from Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
- artwork◊ (from unknown source)
- artwork◊ (from unknown source)
- photograph◊ (from unknown source... my favorite of these)
- artwork◊ (from Castlevania: Lords of Shadow... note that this is on a character page, though it can be replaced there)
- artwork (from unknown source... Pathfinder?)
- screenshot◊ (from Satanic Panic)

- On reflection, I think 2.4◊ (from V for Vendetta) is good. He looks pretty sinister; the text just reinforces it.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. There are a few decent suggestions, but I'm not sure any illustrates the trope as well as the current one.
Check out my fanfiction!Best reaction 10/10.
current > 7.2 > 2.4 > 7.10
7.7 is a good image, but the only thing that really says "priest" (rather than "voodoo priest" or something along those lines) is the cross on his hat.
7.2 at least has the collar, but he could also just be possessed by a demon (I happen to know he isn't, but still).
Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they pretty8 seems to be the only one that gets across the idea of Sinister Minister to me but I don't think any of them illustrate the trope as well as the page image. It's a man in priestly garb with a cruel smile as fire consumes a church below him. Can't get any clearer than that.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."7.7 looks like a voodoo priest. Maybe the caption referring to him that way would clarify it. The Catholic priest collar isn't required for looking like a holy man, I feel like the sights are set too narrow here.
I think at least the note in the current caption should be removed, as suggested in post 5. Perhaps it's okay if the subject of a good illustration isn't technically a good example, but we don't have to call attention to it.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. The issue with the voodoo priest is that a lot of people would confuse it for Witch Doctor because of the mystical associations. Others, like the 40K examples, are more in line with Warrior Monk instead. Or Church Militant, like the Pathfinder one.
I like 7.8 the most by a longshot so far; clearly a minister, clearly evil, not dependent on text. 7.6 is pretty freaky as well... but it it supposed to be illustrating possession specifically?
ETA: Presumably, given the upside-down cross I just now noticed.

You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"Clock is set. Crowner?
Only the current has any appeal to me, actual example or not.
(Annoyed grunt)So far the current is the winner.
He may not fit the trope, but it's a damn good visual on it's own merits divorced from the work and context.
WE DO have this image from Supernatural of Crowley (The King of Hell and formally King of the Crossroads) dressed as a priest
[1]◊
I found this image of a crossroad demon possessing a priest flashing it's Red Eyes of Doom as well

Honestly, I think the V for Vendetta pic is the overall best...his white collar is evident, and his dialogue definitely gets the sinister aspect across.
v Anyone can edit the options.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. Both my examples are from Supernatural.
Also on second thought, I think that's actually Lucifer himself from the most recent season, not a demon.

Crowner hooked. And thank you for a lovely selection, folks (Especially you, Rodney.)
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Looks like we're going to have a problem with including the current because everyone is voting for it and putting us right back where we started.
It's a good image, but I thought the point of the thread was to change it since he apparently isn't an example.

It is not the case that the point of the thread is to change the image.
The point of the thread is to find the best image to use. It could be the case that the current is the best image to use.

Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they prettyIf that image stays, so be it; at least it was discussed, and picked from a wide range.
(Also, we get a huge Image Links page.)

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.I was suggesting a priest that looks like a televangelist with a HUGE Satanic shadow coming up behind him, but that was already done on the video box for Warlock: The Resurrection.
And it was probably over-used to an extent, was it?
Just making sure, that's all.

Votes bump; two in the green.
Looks like Jesse's staying on the page. Should we try for a different caption or just go without?
