They're kind of doing something like that with the pilots that have been coming out. Still, it's no patch on the What-a-Cartoon model.
Also: because everyone needs a little laughter in their lives...
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."I.R FED UP WITH ZIS WARULD!!!
"Pardon me, that extremely loud and extremely deep voice you may have just heard. It was me. Oh, it is such a long story..."Well there's less of a chance for a cartoon anthology pilot series to be revived, because Frederator has been bought out by Rainmaker, to form a new company. :(
Yes. Frederator in name is essentially dead.
I wonder how many of you recall this one...
On Cartoon Planet, they occasionally featured segments taken from the obscure Hanna Barbera cartoon The Completely Mental Misadventures of Ed Grimley, starring Joe Flaherty reprising the one, the only Count Floyd:
He may have gone from Monster Chiller Horror Theater to a kiddie show, but he's still the same Count Floyd every SCTV fan knows and loves...
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."I did love me some Completely Mental Misadventures of Ed Grimley.
This video was produced for CN's website in the early aughts, so I offer it in the spirit of the season.
Man. Only thing holding Ed Grimley back was Hanna Barbera. They really phoned it in with the animation. And on a Saturday morning cartoon. Eesh.
It's that time again! (Maybe? I'm not sure how they schedule these...)
It's SECRET PILOT TIME!!!!
This time, we have Infinity Train by Owen Dennis, in which a bookish girl named after a type of flower struggles with the enigmatic nature of a bizarre train with a Robot Buddy (buddies?)....
And Victor & Valentino by Diego Molano, in which two half-brothers find themselves trapped in the Land of the Dead! As you do.
Going to say this right off the bat: My favorite's Infinity Train. Heck, it doesn't matter that Tulip (the girl) looks like she could be Wendy Corduroy's long-lost twin sister who decided to hit the books rather than the nature trail, I really wanna see what's her story. Also, this has talking corgis. Talking. Corgis. Say what you will, but that's enough justification for me to love this one.
The other one's not so bad. It's kind of Gravity Falls with Mexican legends de los muertos thrown in and if that sounds like a spicy good idea (pun intended), more power to you, but I'm still leaning towards the Train headed for Infinity...

That Train thing looks interesting-
"Fart Car"
Im out.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.Eh, I can let the Fart Car slide. Everything else about Infinity Train seems really fascinating. I wonder if it'll ever get picked up.
Also, I could have sworn that was Maurice LaMarche and Rob Paulsen voicing Tulip's robot buddies. I was shocked when I didn't see their names in the credits.

"Pardon me, that extremely loud and extremely deep voice you may have just heard. It was me. Oh, it is such a long story..."The Taco one seems a bit stereotypical but its actually really cute... EXCEPT THE BROTHER WASTING FOOD. WASTING FOOD IS SIN.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.I didn't see ANY names I recognize in those credits. Though I found it interesting that the pilots creator voiced the King of Corgis! That guy got PIPES and ACTING CHOPS, Slun!
Victor & Valentino was pretty nice, too. It does kind of have a South-Of-The-Border-Gravity-Falls feel. I wouldn't mind seeing both of these pilots getting picked up.
"Pardon me, that extremely loud and extremely deep voice you may have just heard. It was me. Oh, it is such a long story..."@Kablamming. I cant, especially since this is the PILOT, which doesnt give me confidence it wont happen on the show itself...
I was really impressed with Victor and Valentino, though. I love Valentino, He's my type.
EDIT: I have to admit I closed the tab as soon as I heard fart car. I tried giving it another chance, thinking it wouldnt be a fart car and that it was just a joke...and it was, indeed, a fart car. I will go with the latino stereotypes thank you very much.

Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.I really hope Infinity Train gets picked up as it's easily the most promising pilot I've seen in a good while. It's like a fusion of Over the Garden Wall and Gravity Falls. The other one didn't leave much of an impression.

This song needs more love.@ kyun:
If it helps, you might recognize Tulip's VA, Ashley Johnson, as Petra, Terra, Ellie, Renet, and Gwen Tennyson.
Also, the creator didn't voice the King of Corgis. That was actually Ernie Hudson as the Corgi King. The creator did, however, voice the pessimistic robot buddy.

look at those artstyles that look basically exactly the same
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.Look like what? They look very different and they themselves are different from what we see on TV today.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.Infinity seems to have a really interesting story that I want to find out more on, but I actually enjoyed Victor&Valentino more because the dialogue felt more natural and the jokes were better. Honestly, I hope they both get picked up.

S.Z. Unicorn Doom Inc.I liked Infinity Train much better when I skipped the Fart Car (And I hope the Latin American dub will censor it, I REALLY DO) but I still prefer Victor and Valentino. IT seems like those awesome shows that are awesome but get cancelled like 2 seasons in without ever solving its mystery which would be infuriating.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.I don't hate the Fart Car thing but I do agree that it wasn't really well done when they dragged the joke to long, which is why I preferred Victor&Valentino's comedy because even if not all the jokes were funny (and I did find most of the jokes funny not in a laugh-out-loud way but more of just a chuckle), it didn't place too much unnecessary emphasis on any of them and simply moved on to the next event.
S.Z. Unicorn Doom Inc.Yes! Yes! I feel the exact same way!
The Corgi King was adorable. I really hope he's promoted to regular character if the series is renewed.

Man CN needs to revive "What A Cartoon/ the Cartoonstitute." Democratize the pilot-to-series process again!
