You walk along an desolate highway in middle of a great canyon. Empty cars litter the highway, some of them stripped for parts, others riddled with bullet holes, and few just standing there silently, waiting for their owners to return.Pausing for a second to rest, you drop your backpack filled with food and ammunition and gaze at the canyon surrounding you. Great walls of white rock border you on either side, and the entire area is completely silent, heightening your anxiety. You're about to get going when you spot a colorful brochure lying on the ground. Curious, you pick it up and read it: Welcome to Glenwood Springs! We hope this brochure will help you take advantage of many great shops and attractions in our community. Interested in biking or hiking? Glenwood Canyon has several scenic trails perfect for both families and experienced outdoorsmen! Want to go shopping or try some good food? Come down to main street! Need a place to sleep or just relax? Then go to the historic Hotel Colorado & Hot Springs! All this more awaits you...

A slight smile appears on your face as you reminisce about the times before the outbreak. Then, you hear a terrifyingly familiar moaning sound. Before you can react, the walker pounces on you and tackles you to the ground. You desperately attempt fight off the creature, but to no avail. Just when it seems that you're doomed, you hear a gunshot. The walker rolls off of you, felled by bullet to the head. Relieved, you get up to thank your savior...and are yourself shot in the head. Your lifeless body falls to ground as your "savior" walks out of the car he was hiding in. He empties a few more rounds into your skull to make sure you're dead, takes your backpack, and then quickly runs down the highway...

The Walking Dead: Rocky Mountain High

Welcome to my Zombie Apocalypse Roleplay! The premise of this game is pretty simple: the dead are coming back to life as zombies, and you have to find a way to survive. This particular outbreak will be following the "Walking Dead Rules": anyone who dies will turn into a zombie unless their brain is destroyed, and being bitten by zombie will result in death unless the bitten area is quickly removed. The game will start on the day of the outbreak, and will continue from there. I may also introduce a time skip or two to shake things up.

Setting: The game is set in the western Colorado town of Glenwood Springs. Situated near Glenwood Canyon and the Colorado River Glenwood Springs is a small tourist town with a population of about 10,000 people. The town is renown for its outdoor attractions such as rafting, mountain biking, and hiking. It is also known for the Hotel Colorado, a famous hotel established in 1893 to service rich tourists and tuberculosis sufferers who came out west to treat their condition. In addition, there are several abandoned mines and caverns strewn about the area, some more dangerous then others, and several "cowboy" style shops and museums.

Your characters are, of course, welcome to leave Glenwood Springs at anytime. You could take your chances out in the wilderness, travel on interstate 70,or sail the Colorado River to Las Vegas or Mexico. You could even attempt to hijack a plane from the Glenwood Springs municipal airport. However, all of these routes contain a considerable amount of risk, and there is no guarantee your destination will be any safer. It would be unwise to make such a trip unprepared.

Rules:

For the most part the rules for this game are the same as in other R Ps: don't Godmode, don't be asshole to your fellow players, no graphic sex or gore, etc. However, there a few rules that are unique to this game.

Sickness, Injury, and Death: In order to preserve the tense atmosphere crucial to a zombie apocalypse game, your character can be killed at any time. Generally speaking, I'm not going to have zombie just jump out and kill you out of nowhere. However, if your character is doing something stupid or dangerous, they are in danger of dieing.

Your characters are also at risk for sickness and injury. Sickness will normally occur randomly and can range from harmless (common cold) to potentially lethal (heart attacks or strokes). Regardless of the sickness' severity, a sick character is at increased risk for death, and will need medicine and rest to recover. Injuries will occur during risky situation and also range from minor to serious. If injuries are not quickly and adequately treated, the affected character run risk of serious sickness, disability, or death. Zombie Bites are especially grave injuries which can only be cured by removing the affected area before the infection spreads. If not treated, a bite will result in the affected character turning into a zombie.

Supplies: Through out the game, your character will need to collect supplies to survive. Every character needs at least 1 gallon of water and 2 ounces of food per day. You can of course, consume less than this if you want to save your supplies, but it will make your character weaker and more prone to sickness or injury. if your character goes for more than three days without water, or 7 days without food, they will die. You should also collect medicine, otherwise you won't be able to treat sickness or injury. Guns and ammo are also crucial items if you wish to defend yourself from zombies...or the living.1 package of ammo has 5 bullets, so use it wisely. You will also find other items such as gasoline which can help you in certain situations.

At the beginning of each day, I will tell the group or groups how much they each collectively own. An individual can hold up to 5 items on their person, including Guns and Ammo. If the individual has a backpack, they can hold up to 10 items. If your group has a camp, then they can hold up to 40 items there, though it has to be guarded or it might be stolen.

Scavenging: To obtain the supplies you need you will either have to scavenge abandoned buildings, hunt, or attack other survivors. When you enter an area, I will list the possible items to scavenge like so:

Food: 3 Ounces

Water: 1 Gallon

Ammo: 1 package

Backpacks: 1

If you remove any obstacles in your way and you can carry more items, then you can choose to take any of the items listed.

Characters:Keep in mind that these should be relatively normal people, no ex-commandos or expert survivalists. Here is the Character sheet:

Name: Self-explanatory

Age: Self-explanatory, no one below the age of 6 please

Appearance: Either picture or written description

Personality: How do they act, what do they like, etc.

Profession: What does the character do for a living, or at least what do they spend most of their time doing Resident or Tourist: Does you're character live in Glenwood Springs, or are they just visting

Backstory: A brief description of your character's background, doesn't have to be too long.

Starting Items: Pick 5 items for your character to start out with. Remember, these should be stuff that makes sense for the character in question to have: an on duty cop would have a gun and some ammo on his person, a high school student would not. You may not start the game with a backpack.

Just post your character sheets below this post, and if you have any questions please feel free to pm me or post them in this thread. Thank you!grin

He turned up in Glenwood springs for the annual national paintball championships, along with his father, who was one of the first to die in the outbreak. His father also occasionally took him hunting, but not enough that he could be considered anything more than a novice at it. He does know a slight thing or two about fun maintenance though. Let's see how this works.

Name: Natalie Moss

Age: 31

Appearance: Natalie is five foot eleven, dark skin, blue eyes (her father had extremely dark skin and mother was white,) short black hair that she wears in a ponytail. Thick athletic build that had gone a little soft because she cannot be as active as she was, carries a limp from when she was shot and on account of that her shin still hurts. Her dress sense as a detective was jeans, white shirt or jumper and black jacket and this carries on after retirement, she thinks it’s a good look.

Personality: Idealistic, tough but fair. Natalie has a firm grasp on how the world should work, at the same time she doesn’t try and force it to adopt her views, just her world.

 • Action Girl: Certainly before she left the force. Tries to live up to this with her limp.

 • Anti-Hero: She smokes, drinks, screws around and is plagued by self doubt but by god does she try her best for everyone.

 • The Anti-Nihilist: Natalie sees the world turning nihilist. She has...issues about this.

 • Beware the Nice Ones: When talking to the Detective she would be playing Natalie made it clear she would have done the same thing and killed the rapist who was found innocent, and that she should have been given a medal.

 • …But I Play One on TV: Inverted. When approached for the role of playing a black detective her acting experience was near zero, but she was a twelve year veteran on the force and the sky was the limit for her until her shooting and subsequent depression made her quit.

 • Cordon Bleugh Chef - Supreme Chef: Zigged zagged. When Natalie tries some of the more inventive recipes (ravioli using chocolate flavored pasta stuffed with Kit Kats and a cream sauce,) her reach overextends her grasp or she somehow messes up in regards to how a recipe turns out or cooking times it's the former. When she pulls it off (about 75% of the time) it's the latter.

 • Death Seeker: After quitting her job Natalie became very reckless, the implication being she was either trying to expand her life or simply end it. When asked directly if she was trying to kill herself?
—>Of course not, don’t be silly.

 • Despair Event Horizon: As a Detective she had killed several times, something she didn't feel comfortable with, or the idea that it was becoming easier. Then she was shot and while she could still work with a limp Natalie fell into depression at not being able to do as good a job as she could, and the resulting depression made her work suffer, and she saw no other choice but to quit.

 • Eat the Rich: Has considerable disdain for those, "Born with a silver dining set up their ass."

 • Enforced Method Acting: When Natalie met the Detective she would be playing the Detective was against the idea, before noticing that Natalie was copying her mannerisms. When she opened up about her story Natalie took the details down exactly like a Detective would, trying to find out everything she could about the role she would be playing, showing she had a genuine interest and wanted to be as accurate as possible.

 • Genre Savvy: As a former police officer most definitely. She also has a working understanding of the undead from films that portray them realistically and had discussions with a colleague who's into the zombie games before the real infection began.

 • Good Is Not Soft: In spades.

 • Mercy Kill: How she sees killing the infected.

 • Murder Is the Best Solution: A mild case, if they can then Natalie sees killing the infected as this: they can't help them, no one else will be hurt and they would be doing them a favor.

 • Take That!: When in a depressive funk Natalie said, “Long as you keep me from those games I’ll be alright.” Those games? ‘’Dead Island.’’ ‘’Metro: Last Light.’’ ‘’The Last Of Us.’’ She’s taking a pot shot at the grim and gritty.

Profession: Natalie used to be a police detective and very sport orientated, until she was shot and left with a limp. Now she’s an actress, looking to play a detective involved in the shooting of a rapist.

Backstory: As an officer Natalie was highly idealistic to the point that she tried to help youth criminals from avoiding a life of crime, something that carried consequences when thanks to her efforts they avoided arrest and they promptly armed up, leading to a shoot out where one of her colleagues had to shoot a member of the gang dead. She then worked as part of an anti gang task force where she focused on youth crime and through the unit made her way up to detective, before being assigned a kidnapping case. It ended with her being shot when she and another officer had cornered the kidnapper and she stopped him from being killed, the officer then killed the culprit and there was an investigation into whether his actions were in self defense. Because of the injuries she sustained Natalie left the force, and then there was an incident when a police detective killed a rapist and the story was going to be portrayed on television. Because of the detective’s reticence to be involved Natalie was suggested for the role, and she was keen to be involved.

Starting Items: Despite being a former police officer Natalie does not start out with a gun. She could have obtained one after she left the force but as an officer gun safety was something she took seriously, and she didn’t want one around as American gun control was an issue she was concerned about. The items she does have are:

 • Zippo lighter: She is a smoker, and after several cheap ones that wore out Natalie bought a proper one. This lighter works, in good weather or bad, it could be knocked around, stomped on, get wet or left for months and still work. Natalie is not as careful with is as she was with guns, using enough gas to start a small fire simply from lighting up, and the flame is big enough to act as a decent torch. Speaking of...

 • Pocket torch: Like the lighter Natalie wanted the best and this is effective up to a hundred yards or more. She specifically chose this one for it’s halogen light which is blinding when shone into the eyes, which is specifically what she bought it for, after a friend used one in self defense. It has a 300 hour battery life.

 • Cellular phone: Specifically an older iPhone 4. Despite not having the memory of older models Natalie has it loaded with every app and game you could imagine, from police scanners to ‘’Angry Birds’’ to old Internet searches for the most adult video games.

 • Stubby torque wrench: Natalie is handyman savvy enough to be capable of basic repair work and found a torque wrench is much easier to use than a standard screwdriver or drill. The top can even be removed to carry a number of drill bits and attachments.

Interested but it might be a while before I post a character. I'm thinking something along the lines of a disillusioned priest.

[up][up] I need at least 4 or 5 players (preferably more, but considering how slow the sign ups are I'll take what I can get) before I start this thing, otherwise it'll be pretty boring.

[up] Sounds great :). Take your time, we won't be starting for a while yet.
