SIGN UPS HAVE 1 SPOT OPEN FOR AN UNAFFILIATED CHARACTER, AND 2 SPOTS OPEN FOR OMNI-KNIGHTS

Welcome to Omni-Duel, a Multiple Universe RP that plays like a merchandise-driven Action/adventure/sci-fi/Fantasy card game TV show. It's similar to Yu-Gi-Oh in a way, and it is made up of a bunch of mini plots based off the character's backstories, but there will ocassionally be a plot arc like a tournament or an attack on the city.

The game starts out in a slightly futuristic time where Omni-Duel is a world hobby and pastime, almost like a sport. Pro Omni-Duelist are like celebrities, and tornaments are often held in expensive arenas and are popular events to attend. Omni-Dueling is literally a part of life, and people even use their cards to assist them in their day-to-day routine.

Omni-Duel is played with Omni-cards, cards that possess the power to replicate something from another universe and summon it to this world. There are Character Cards (used to fight with), Action Cards (used to allow characters to use their special techniques), Upgrade Cards (used to change a character's form to a different version), and Environment Cards (used to temporarily change area to benefit characters). Some cards allow the user to play other cards in a combo due to their special effects. To properly activate a card, the duelist says the correct command before inserting it into their Omni-Reader, a cell-phone like machine that reads the card and creates the effects. The Omni-Reader also keeps track of a Duelist's information and registered cards to serve as identification. Omni-Cards were created and are produced by the Table Top Company, and they put together and fund events sometimes. New or duplicate Cards can be found in shops, traded for, given as presents or prizes, or even just on the ground. Cards will act like the thing they're based off of when summoned at first, but as they interact with other cards and duelists, they may deviate in personality and become their own individual. The Character cards are physical beings made of magic and technology when summoned, and can exist forever as long as the card isn't damaged.

Here's some examples. Let's say I'm using a Legend of Zelda-Ocarina of Time themed Deck:

  • To activate Character: "Character Card: Young Link!" Young Link is now on the feild, and can use an Action Card the same turn. Only one Character Card can be played per turn, unless it was summoned with the effects of another card the previous turn.

  • To activate Action: "Action Card: Sling Shot!" Young Link can now freely use his slingshot, but he needs to remove it to use another Action card the next turn. Action Cards can be equiped and de-equiped once per turn per character. (you can't equip, then de-equip, then re-eqiup a single character in one turn though.) Characters do not need an Action Card to attack regularly, so for example, Link can freely swing his sword whenever he wants to during a fight. Using other items requires equipping a card though.

  • To activate Upgrade: "Upgrade Card: Master Sword!" Young Link's Character Card automatically changes into Adult Link, and all Action Cards he may no longer be able to use are forcibly de-equipped. All previously

  • To activate Environment: "Environment Card: Hyrule Castle!" Teh Dueling area is transformed into a replica of Hyrule Castle's grounds. This has the effect of giving Link more of an ability to hide from attacks by using the hedges and walls as cover. Castle guards may also attack the opposing character. Most Environment cards last 3 turns of a Duel before they deactivate.

An official deck is 40 cards, requiring at least 1 Character Card and 1 Action Card as a part of it. The other two types are optional, but recommended. Omni-Duels are usually played 1 on 1 between two people, but there are such thing as double and triple duels, and other interesting varieties. I'll write up the entire rule list in a later post.

Players will create an Omni-Duelist, along with a starting deck (with or without a theme). Your character will start by joining a dueling team. There are two teams you can choose to join at the start, either The Omni-Knights (the token good guys), or the Limitless Club (the token bad guys). Your character may quit or switch teams later if they want to. I will allow five duelists per each team, and I may allow others in as unaffiliated duelists later once we get established. I plan to launch this around mid to late August, so take your time asking questions and thinking up fun decks and characters to use.

The game will start in Omni-City, an American city on the east coast founded by Omni-Dueling that currently is holding a beginner's tournament. I will nerf character cards if I think they are too strong to start out with. If you think a character is too OP to be used, then ask me here before you waste your time making a sheet with them.

Here's the sheet:

  • Duelist Name (first and last):

  • Age (you must be at least 13 to be a Registered Omni-Duelist):

  • Appearance (A picture or description is fine):

  • Personality:

  • Deck (please start out with only up to 20 cards, just to begin with):

Character Cards (use their weakest/default form and put their origin universe next to their names in parenthesis. You do not need additional cards to represent their upgraded forms, they change back and forth automatically. You can have up to three at the start.)-

Action Cards and their possible effects(Only special techniques require a card to use, so if a character has a shotgun as a default weapon, they don't need to waste a turn to fire it. Ex: Goku can fire regular energy blasts, but he needs an equipped card to use Kamehameha. '''Only certain characters can use certain Action Cards, so you can't make Spongebob use Flamethrower like a Charzard by equipping that card. It has to be possible in-universe. You can start out with up to four per each character):

Upgrade Cards and effects (optional, and one per character at the start):

Environment Cards and benefits to character (also optional. you may have 2 to start. One environment can possibly affect multiple characters at once if they are of the same universe):

  • Bio (be creative. Your character will interact with their cards when giving commands, so think about how they will mesh personality wise. Your Character may not even fully understand or like his cards for some reason):

  • Dueling Team (Omni-Knights, or Limitless Club):

Teams so far: Omni-Knights- Roger Chanton (mrminun), James Parker (Locoman), Jared Walker (Musik Maestro)

Limitless Club- Dean Cainabel (Psyga), Shana Anderson (Tropay Xion), Balin Brodeur (Philosopher Stones), Peter Armin (Firock Finion), George Guerra (Bindlestick)

Unaffiliated- Annette Mc Kenzie (Lemurian)

Something about this seems familar... oh well, interested. I'll try and get a bio up sometime tomorrow. Most likely with a Kingdom Hearts or Touhou themed deck.

...Oh yeah, I assume there's a limit to the character cards? Because if someone were to use, say, Medaka, they basically cannot lose ever.

Hm... I wonder...

I have a deck idea involving the Zelda CDI games and the Youtube Poop that's based off it... Would that be acceptable?

Also, is it possible for universal Action Cards? Like, Action Cards that any character can use or does it have to be tied to that one person?

An RP where I can legitimately use a Gotcha Force themed deck/character? Yes please!

Though I wouldn't mind a more complete explanation of the rules, as well as how the game will function.

I think I'll go with this dude.

  • Name: Jared Walker
  • Age: 15
  • Appearance: Dirty blond hair and brown eyes. He generally wears a white shirt, with a black leather jacket over it and dark blue jeans. He also has a pair of converse, the type with that Joker design on the side.
  • Personality: Jared is what you would call a Jerk. He's a real dick now of the time, and he is usually very happy when he gets his way. He can be nice though, as long as he doesn't have a reason not to like you. However, even if he considers you his friend, he'll still tell a lot of jokes at your expense, so any friendships would be subject to a lot of Vitolic Best Buds.
  • Deck:
    • Character Cards:
    • Action Cards
      • Mumkhar
        • Eagle Claws: Hits all character cards in play. Has a 5 turn recharge.
        • Fire Claws: Deals Fire damage.
        • Poison Claws: Deals Poison damage. Only equipable when upgraded.
        • Grand Canon: Makes target miss a move. Only equipable when upgraded. 5 turn recharge.
      • Malfoy
        • Protego: Can block attacks.
        • Morsmorde: Allows Voldemort to be played.
        • Crucio: Deals double damage. 3 turn recharge.
        • Stupefy: Target misses a turn. 3 turn recharge.
      • Voldemort (All spells require upgrade.)
        • Imperius: Makes targets next attack hit self.
        • Protego: Blocks attack.
        • Sectumsempra: Deals triple damage. 5 turn recharge.
        • Avada Kedavra: Insta-kills if not blocked or intercepted.
    • Upgrade Cards
      • Metal Face (Mumkhar): Faster. Allows some attacks to be used.
      • The Elder Wand (Voldemort): Boosts Expelliarmus's power. Allows other spells to be used.
    • Environment Cards
      • Sword Valley: Makes Mumkhar always attack first.
      • Hogwarts: Boosts Malfoy and Voldemorts power.
  • Bio A young boy who lived in Omni-City most of his life, Jared has always had a taste for the less moral side. He treats his cards as simple minions, tools for him to use, and doesn't have the best realationship with them. The tournament is his first, but he's been deck-building for years, looking to find a strong deck capable of holding its own. He refused to join the "Limitless Club", as he found the name sounded more like something a bunch of 5-year olds would come up with, instead opting to join the Omni-Knights, looking to be a sort of "token morally dubious teammate". But not an evil one. It is just a Children's Card Game, after all.
  • Team: The Omni-Knights.

Yes, I'm aware yes probably OP as hell, but I didn't really know what kind of power level we'd be working with. I'm ok with nerfing him if need be.

Hmm, if this won't start until mid-August, I may be able to join after all.

I'm getting ideas now for a relatively noob-player (good guy, definitely) with a deck based around badass normals. A bit like Joey ala Yu-Gi-Oh, if you will.

And I'm with Paladin; a more complete version of the rules would be good to have. Let's see here...

Since having a character card out seems to be kind of necessary to even duel, I'd assume each match starts with both players playing one simultaneously, then going on to the first player's turn. Or going with an implication from Musik's profile, turns are done simultaneously, with the actions of the cards played being processed after both players finished. But what about after that? Can we play any card we want from our deck, or do we have to play from a hand?*

Do cards that have already been used go to a discard pile, particularly defeated character cards? Do we have to play a card every turn or can we pass? And what exactly are the winning (and losing) conditions?

Also, what about more meta, rule-bendy cards that wouldn't really fit any of the above card themes: like a card that when you play it lets you draw two more cards to your hand? (if we're using hands) Or a card that lets you take a card out of your discard pile?

@ Tropay: Maybe you can nerf Medaka by taking her like this:

  • Turn 1: Summon Medaka
  • Turn 2: Action (Take suggestion ((Like, the box is an action card)))
  • Turn 3: Medaka fulfills sugestion
  • Turn 4: It benefits allied characters, or gets weaponized.

I've never read Medaka Box, so I'm going off their entry on the main wiki.

@Signups: I'll have a character up soon.

The box has very little to do with anything, really. Not with powers, at least. Medaka herself, at her absolute weakest, can copy all abilities and make them better, while also effectively being the best at any and all activities you can think of. And that's before getting into her upgrades and copied abilities.

So... yeah. Anyways, gonna decide between Heroic Roxas deck or Villainous Yuuka deck now.

So... There's basically no conceivable way she can lose against anyone.

Like, unless they completely took her by surprise and killed her before she could copy them at all, but that doesn't sound like an option in a turn-based duel.

Yes, let's just make medaka like a traded pokemon. She just won't pay attention to 80% of the commands you give her.

Or she can be like a Priestess Archetype, and just buff other people.

This idea is brilliant. Oh, if this were real and I were a kid I'd be fanboying left and right.

I know I want a Metroid-themed deck... either a One-Man Army deck with Samus or a Space Pirates deck to start with. My issue with the former is I'm not sure what happens if you don't have a character card your first turn (is it like the Pokémon TCG where you keep redrawing until you get a basic Pokémon?) and with the latter I have no idea what to make for Upgrade cards.

But once I've figured something out count me in!grin

^^^^ She copied an ability to dodge on instinct or something near the beginning. It barely mattered in the conext of the manga itself, but in any crossovers... yeah. I suppose she technically lost ONCE, to a character that was immune to almost anything she could do, but even that guy got nerfed to hell.

...To be fair, her overpoweredness is pretty much an important plot point and it was more of a meta-commentary than anything, but still.

...And I dodn't mean to go on an anti-Medaka rant. Don't hate her or anything (hell, I'd love to use on or two characters from it), it's just... at the moment, it's the most extreme example I can think of for power.

Like I said earlier, I'll get the rules up either today or tommorrow, so if you're making a sheet, you might have to edit your deck to make it fit better. Oh yeah, and Character Card moralities don't have to be connected to the Duelists at all, but if a good and bad character are summoned to the same field, they may not work very well together at first. Oh, and I might have to nerf that Avada Kedavra somehow. In a duel, Cards are sorted into piles based on type and can be looked through at leisure. A Character Card goes to the Graveyard if they are defeated (killed or K.Oed) or the duelist commands them to give up. Switching out a character for another does not count as a defeat though. Omni-Duel plays like a real time strategy game, where characters fight while being equipped with Actions and Upgrades. The first turn allows duelists to activate new cards on both sides (One post per duelist, and I'll roll a die to figure out who's first.), Then the characters fight while listening to imput from their Duelist (which they may ignore. Characters fight by themselves and will make their own mid-battle plans using the cards the Duelist gives them each turn) for one post each. Each turn after that is made of two phases, the Offense Phase (for the one who got first turn on the roll) and the Defense Phase (for the one who got second). The Offense Phase duelist gets to play cards first and their character gets to attack first. This does NOT mean autohitting. Defense Phase lets the second Duelist retaliate, play their own cards, and launch their own attack. The turn ends and the next on begins very quickly, creating a back and forth pattern of defending and attacking until a character is defeated. A duelist may not have much time to sit there and think hard about their cards, because the battle can only be paused by the referee. Damage dealt will be based on how injured they "should" be, and I will intervene if I think a character should be defeated. I hope that helps a little while I write up the rules.

  1. Would a Zelda CDI/Youtube Poop themed deck work?
  2. Would universal action cards work? (As in action cards that work for more than one person)

The chracters would have to be of the same Universe for that to work. Oh, and as long as you can make a decent deck that can defend itself, I'll allow that series.

[up][up][up][up]Okay, like, for example, the action card is a sword. Just that, a simple sword. It can equip anyone who had held a sword at one point and used it in legitimate combat. Or in a more personal example, I was thinking of a card that summons Gwonam and his magic carpet for transportation, since both Zelda and Link got on the carpet during the ending.

[up] Yeah, though I'm sort of fresh out of ideas other than that oddity. I could try to go legit and do a Fourze Deck (if the GM likes) though, since that employs the universal action card idea better (since two of the riders can use certain Switches from Fourze, like Nadeshiko with Rocket and Meteor with Elec).

As of this point, I'm 75% sure I'm doing a Fourze Deck.

The power of editing compels me!

Name: Ryan Edwards

  • Age: 14 for the first day, then 15
  • Appearance: White, it's obvious he doesn't get much sun. Black hair that is a bit messy (not like just-out-of-bed messy, though). Red eyes. For clothes he wears a red t-shirt, white shorts, white socks, and red sneakers with white lines. He also has a white backpack with red lines, but it's empty sans the side pockets, one holding his deck (unless that's held in the Omni-Reader) and the other holding a thermos (which is usually filled with caffine-free root beer).
  • Personality: Easy to get along with, and very kind and optimistic, but naïve. Also, in contrast to his usual kindness, he's a sore loser. He also believes himself to be Genre Savvy. Is he? I don't know, I don't write the story.
  • Deck:
    • Character Cards:
    • Action Cards:
      • Missile: For Samus Aran. A missile expansion that grants Samus five missiles to fire from her arm cannon. These do less damage than charge shots, but more than basic shots. Also, they can open certain doors and destroy certain materials, but can't cause large-scale enviromental damage. If she runs out of missiles, they automatically unequip. Unequipping missiles refills them, too.
      • Reserve Tank: Emergency Energy Tank only usable by Samus Aran. Contains 100 points of energy to refill Samus' health. It can be used manually (which uses as much energy as necessary until health is full, or you use up all 100), or it can automatically be used when Samus would otherwise be defeated.
      • Charge Beam: Allows Samus Aran to charge her power beam. When fully charged, she can also do something called a Charge Attack, which lets her attack an enemy with a somersault and pass through projectiles.
      • Ice Beam: Another beam that normally stacks with the Charge Beam, but hopefully it's fine if I give the Ice Beam charging capabilities by default. Firing uncharged shots from the Ice Beam have a horrible rate of fire. On the upside, a charge shot will temporarily freeze the fool hit by it.
    • Upgrade Cards:
      • Morph Ball: Samus Aran becomes a ball that's one meter in diameter. She keeps her Suit Upgrades while using this, but still unequips her beams and stuff. Her one default attack in this form is laying a bomb, and switching into Morph Ball form while holding a fully charged beam shot scatters five bombs around herself. Using bombs also allows for Bomb Jumping, which lets bombs propel her into areas that she normally can't reach (without the Spring Ball, that is). Up to three bombs may be out at once.
    • Bio: A ninth-grader from up in the midwest, Ryan has never had many friends over the years, and mostly understands the world from media- TV, video games, and so forth. In the present, Omni-Duel is very popular among his high school (kind of like Pokemon was in yours... depending on what years you went to high school). Lots of the kids aspire to be professional players one day, and Ryan is (of course) one of them. Despite being the "just kind of there" kid, he's surprisingly good for a rookie, among the top Duelists at his school. Just so happens that he's turning 15 soon, and for his birthday his grandpa has dropped him off at Omni-City. He's pretty dang excited to be in an official tournament, too!* Who knows what's in store for Ryan? I guess we'll find out.

      • The Keys to Graceland: Disables the effects of one action card played by the opponent
  • Upgrade Cards and effects:
    • Tainted Drugs (Toshiko Kasen): Can cause poison damage when applied to Toshiko Kasen's katana
    • Liquid Nitrogen Bullets (Toni Cipriani): Does Ice Damage when combined with his pistol
    • Sindacco Family Crest (Paulie Sindacco): Subjects an additional card to the effects of the "Keys to Graceland" action card.
  • Environment Cards and benefits to character:
    • Liberty City Slums (Toni Cipriani): Gives additional hiding spots to Toni during attacks
    • Shoreside Vale Hospital (Toshiko Kasen): Allows another character to use the "First Aid Kit" action card.

  • Bio: Born in the suburbs of Northern New Jersey to Japanese-American parents, Matt Kitami was always a depressed, yet kind kid, who was a fan of classic rock and old mobster movies. He got into dueling when he turned 14, and now he has developed a new deck around one of his favorite PS 2 video games, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories.

  • Dueling Team: Omni-Knights

  • Appearance: 5-o-clock shadow, sunken in eyes with dark rings around them, brown eyes looking lifelessly tired. He wears a black jacket with a red turtleneck and matching black pants. His brown hair is short and very messy. Yet for whatever reason, he looks stunning.
  • Personality: Dean has little to no emotion whatsoever and is evident in his voice. However, he is arrogant about Decade's power, saying how it can't be matched and that he would "destroy" his opponents, when really, just as he's starting out, the deck is pretty sparse and weak. Friendship to him is just a meaningless word and that anyone who believes in it is just setting themselves up for disappointment. He has a win-at-any-costs kind of personality, though he's above doing things like threatening to kill himself if he loses, holding loved ones hostage, or attempting to murder his opponent in the middle of a duel. To him, he has to win in battle, not through cheating or manipulation.
  • Deck: Decade
    • Characters:
    • Actions:
      • Attack Ride: Blast (Decade): Gives Decade his Ride Booker in Gun Mode, which has rapid fire capabilities.
      • Attack Ride: Slash (Decade): Gives Decade his Ride Booker in Sword Mode.
      • Attack Ride: Illusion (Decade): Splits Decade into 2-5 copies of himself. These split versions are capable of physical combat.
      • Final Attack Ride: Decade: Allows Decade to preform his version of a Rider Kick, Rider Slash, or Rider Blast, depending on what he's using.
    • Upgrade Cards:
      • Violent Emotion (Decade): Gives Decade the ability to access any Action Card regardless of if it was made for him or not (so long as it was used by a Kamen Rider) and can use one extra Action Card.
    • Environment Cards:
      • World of the Rider War (Decade): The arena becomes a BBC Quarry where lasers are flying all around and explosions are going off everywhere.
  • Bio: Before, Dean was actually a happy-go-lucky gamer with lots of friends, many of which he would play card games with after school. He didn't care if he won or lost, so long as he enjoyed playing the game. However, one day, he found his treasured Gokaiger Deck stolen and he rushed to find it. He was shocked when it was one of his friends who stole it. The friend rubbed in his face of just how gullible he was and burned the deck right in front of him. From that point on, he resented his friends, believing them to be just like the friend who betrayed him. His attitude towards gaming also changed, and while he didn't view it as a life-or-death struggle, he took he game more seriously than he did previous. However, when he got his new deck, something happened. The sole Character Card began to talk to him, saying how his power will wipe out everyone so long as he was calling the shots. Soon, the card began to take over his mind. It was as if he wasn't playing the game, but rather the card.
