Howdy y'all. As some of you may have seen, degnan recently had a sign-up for a Number-centric RP. Unfortunately, he is unable to continue so I will be doing my own variant of it. He even gave me the okay! Yay!

So plot-wise, everyone here has a Number! You get a Number! And you get a Number! Important thing to note about Numbers: They are not your friends. They are world-destroying entities but require you to do pesky things like devour other Numbers and bring about the apocalypse. However, each individual Number has its own distinct personality. Some are overt and make it clear that you are nothing but their hand. Some are "nicer" and take a more laissez-faire-style and backseat their way. No matter how you look at it, they are not traditional Duel Spirits and don't give a fuck about you except as a tool.

Now you may be wondering "Why are our characters together?" Excellent question. The reason is that Numbers gravitate towards other Numbers and often try to make groups. After all, going solo is dangerous when people are actively hunting you. Of course, you're hunting them as well. You have just formed the group [insert democratically elected title here] and are now turning your sights on Heartland City.

FAIR WARNING: Do not get too attached to your characters. Some Number Hunters can only absorb Numbers by absorbing their foe's soul. However, due to the process of taking the soul, if multiple Numbers have imprinted upon a single soul, they can only take one and therefore leave part of the soul behind.

Now let's get down to the nitty gritty rules.

  1. Standard RP rules apply. No ghosting, god-moding, etc.
  2. No meta decks allowed. If you aren't sure if it's a meta deck, post it. I will certainly parse it for you.
  3. You are restricted to a single Limited card and a single Semi-Limited card. This is to keep Numbers as powerful entities.
  4. I will assign your Number. You get to choose whether it's overt or relaxed. Post interest here and I'll send you one.
  5. Numbers cannot be destroyed by battle unless it's against another Number. This counts as part of their monster effect.
  6. I reserve the right to turn down your character without having to explain why. I usually will, but I want this clause in just in case.
  7. No Barian Force cards. FOR NOW.

So here's the character sheet.

Gimme a go. (Shrug) I mean I totally suck at this whole Number thing and I plan to show that by making my character try to ignore his number where possible (and it won't work), so if you want to go for something that is psycho and likely to do nasty shit I'm game.

  • Name: Naoto Shakuro
  • Age: 17
  • Gender: male
  • Appearance: Naoto is a very handsome blond young man with icy blue eyes, he has a muscular build and is quite tall, wearing a black leather jacket with white fur at the neckline area, forgoing a shirt entirely, leaving the leather jacket zipper half way up. He wears khaki pants, steel toed boots, and fingerless gloves. His hair is styled to have a number of spikes pointing mostly downward, including two bangs at the forehead.
  • Bio: Naoto comes from a moderately well off family, though his father is out most of the time, and his mother seems to smother him, so to speak. He, however, seemed to always have a detached personality, always trying to solve his problems on his own. He had previously had severe bullying problems, and was afraid to say what he wanted...until one day. He changed then, and became the man he is today. And now, seeing the world he knew basically evaporate, he has decided to collect the Numbers and demand an explanation from Khaos.
  • Personality: He seems to be a cold, professional type who has a dark view of the world. Despite claiming that he desires to bring about "justice" and such and such, his "justice" seems to be coldly applied, ruthless, and without quarter. He does, however, have a kinder side he shows occasionally to his friends. He is actually afraid of showing weakness, for fear that his enemies would exploit it. Naoto does not like to admit to being kind or really showing concern for people individually, but rather like a Tsundere, he'll deny it even if its obvious he was being nice.
  • Number: Number 53: Heart-Earth
  • Number Personality: Heart-Earth seems to be a sinister presence, having a disturbing and rather sadistic personality, though it appears that it is "hollow", "empty", and seems to be a dark reflection of what Naoto wants. It eggs him toward what he "really" wants, no matter what this is.
  • Number Hunting Method: Heart Taker. Heart Earth takes the Number into itself, "filling the emptiness". It takes "the best parts" of the soul as well.
  • Deck: Heart Earth 0
  • Monsters (Total: 21)
    • 3x Garbage Ogre
    • 3x Garbage Lord
    • 3x Star Drawing

  • Name: David ("Dave") Gray
  • Age: 19
  • Gender: ♂
  • Appearance: Dave is of a fairly average height, with a somewhat thin and scrawny build. He wears small, rectangular glasses and is pretty much Blind Without 'Em (although to a more realistic degree than the actual trope). He has a generally scruffy look about him, as if he doesn't take much care about his appearance.
  • Bio: Dave used to be an ace duelist, fast on the way to the top. After making his appearance at the World Duel Carnival, he passed through the initial preliminary without breaking a sweat. Still, once he returned to the hotel he was staying in he found what looked like... maybe a Mecha Phantom Beast Xyz, stuck to the outside of the window. But after retrieving the card, later he wishes he had never done so...
  • Personality: David used to be meek and shy, despite his Duel skills. He isn't anymore, simply turned into a vessel of hate by Number 42. He seeks nothing more than to be able to cast the card away and never see it again, but he just can't bring himself to. No matter how hard he tries.
  • Number: Number 42: Starship Galaxy Tomahawk
  • Number Personality: Number 42 has been taking evening classes with Harbinger and GLaDOS. It is expert at manipulating David into continuing the conquest to hunt the other Numbers. "Galaxy Tomahawk always uses a Creepy Monotone voice. It's speech patterns never change, which insinuates a lack of feeling. This may or may not be incorrect."
  • Number Hunting Method: Tomohawk uses a combination shrinkray/tractor beam to pull Numbers into it's cockpit and towards the unknown. Souls are forefeit.
  • Deck: "'Crazy B*stards' Air Division"
    • Monsters (Total of 20)
      • Cyber Dragon (x2)
      • Mecha Phantom Beast Blackfalcon (x3)

@Nick: Tentatively accepted. Just need to update the backstory with the stuff I'm about to post. Sorry for not having it up sooner.

@Plum: Accepted.

One month ago, the World Duel Carnival began. Hosted in Heartland City, it was to be one of the largest dueling tournaments held and drew people from all over the globe. The citizens of the theme park-esque city welcomed the competitors and, for the most part, received kindness in return. With the preliminaries wrapping up, it was looking to be a huge success.

That was until, during the last night of preliminaries, an enormous void opened in the sky. As the city looked up to see what it was, all the televisions in the city began broadcasting a mysterious figure cloaked in shadow. Calling himself "Khaos" he explained the situation to the city. All forms of communication with the outside world were jammed and all forms of transportation had been cut off. In addition, a soul-devouring virus had been released into the air that would turn any non-Number holder into basically a zombie whose only thoughts were acquiring Numbers. Of course, he would be kind enough to explain that Numbers are a special type of Xyz monster that held incredible powers.

However, there was a "good" side to this, Khaos promised. Whoever could collect 5 Numbers would have the right to meet him and be granted god-like power. Oh and the only way to get the Numbers were either to kill a Number holder after defeating them in a one-on-one duel or having their own Number take away another once again after a successful one-on-one duel. He wished the contestants good luck and disappeared.

One month later and Heartland City is a shell of the glorious happy place it once was. Number users quickly learned to stick in packs and found that the Numbers carried a rather undisclosed side effect of amplifying negative feelings and traits within their carriers. Non-Number holders, collectively referred to as Ghouls, are everywhere, seeking out solitary Number holders to take their Number and regain their souls.

You lot have recently formed a group of Number users to protect yourselves better from other Number groups and Ghoul packs. In fact, none of you really knew each other prior to this but were led together by a voice over a telephone, calling itself XIII*

. It claims to be outside the island city and wishes you to confront Khaos. For some reason or another, you either agree to it yourself or your Number "convinces" you to agree. They refuse to tell you why exactly.

So there's the important plot info.

Also, in an attempt to make duels less of a slog, I'm proposing running with 4000LP as your starting total for each duel. This will allow us to burn through duels faster and not have to wait 20 pages for one to finish. I'm putting this up to vote. In addition, if you'd like to change your deck because of this rule change, feel free to and let me know when you've completed it.

4000 LP seems kind of low. How 'bout 6000? It's high enough to make the duels interesting, but not to high that they will drag the duels out.

Name: Aya Amaha

Gender: Female

Age: 17

Appearance: Medium height for her age. Red hair done up in a ponytail. Wears a pair of jeans and a green shirt.

Duel Disk and D-Gazer: Her Disk is in the shape of a round shield (if you were to look at it like a clock the grave would be on the 10, deck holder on the 9, and monster and S/T slots on the 8,7,6,5, and 4). Her D-Gazer is standard.

Personality: Quite shy and timid, but very kind and likes to help people in any way she can. She's absolutely afraid of Numbers but knows she's one of the few people who can effectively fight against them. Her number appears on the back of her right hand.

Background: Months before Khaos arrived Aya lived a happy, though somewhat sheltered life with her wealthy family. Her father was a retired pro duelist who contented himself with collecting rare cards. One day Aya found a Number card and proudly showed it to her parents, finally having a card that her father hadn't seen before. Unfortunately the Number awoke and consumed both of her parents. It spared Aya and bound to her as a host. Now she lives all alone in a city where Ghouls are hunting her and others like her down.

Number 50: Blackship of Corn: Less of an individual and more of a force. It doesn't speak at all and just slowly drifts wherever it pleases, as if the winds guides it. While it doesn't actively hunt, it does have a taste for souls and will likely try to take any that it comes across if it's in the mood. Aya is absolutely afraid of Blackship and love for it to just go away and find a new host. However she hangs onto it in hopes of one day getting her parents back. When Blackship consumes a soul it takes the part that's 'precious and held most dear'.

  • Name: Mac Mindaln
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 18
  • Duel Disk and D-Gazer: Standard, colored red with black and purple highlights.
  • Appearance: He wears an outfit that vaguely resembles Judge Buster - dark pants, and a dark purple long-sleeved shirt, with a bronze-colored sleeve-less jacket. He has long dark hair, which has a tendency to fall down and get in his eyes, so pushing it out from his eyes is almsot an involuntary reflex on his part (in fact, not doing it is a pretty good sign that Judge Buster is currently in control).
  • Bio: He was going to have a good night out on the town to celebrate his 18th birthday away from his parents. He was going to get into a good college, and he was going to hopefully figure out whether this friend was willing to be his girlfriend. Then the sky opened up, and Duel Monsters cards came raining down out of the sky, and he found his life turned completely upside down. And he'll sit down and tell you about how he ended up on the run from basically an entire city, and is now likely never going to get his perfectly good life back.
  • Personality: He's kinda shy and doesn't have the most outgoing personality in the world. He's pretty easy-going most of the time, and doesn't like to attract trouble, preferring to stick around in the background and let things happen. The influence from Judge Buster has made him more confident, but also a bit more OCD.
  • Number: Number 65: Judge Buster the Adjudicutting Djinn
  • Number Personality: A bit like Honor/Vengeance from DA2, except it's both an asshole, and evil. Very much obsessed with "judging the filthy world", and "delivering the final sentence". As might be apparent though, his idea of "justice", if carried out, would mean the end of the world, since he has quite literally zero tolerance for ANY kind of injustice, and will find excuses just to "carry out justice's will". Sorta a vigilante, in other words. It doesn't actively control Mac much of the time, but it does occasionally pull a Grand Theft Me.
  • Number Hunting Method: Decapitates the number, pulls out it's soul, and then stabs the soul, which somehow absorbs it (Judge Buster does this). Yes, it even does this to stuff that doesn't have a head.
  • Deck:
    • Monsters (Total 23):
      • Clown Zombie x3
      • Fire Reaper x3
      • Pharaoh's Servant x3
      • The Wandering Doomed x3
      • Phantom Ghost x3
      • Bacon Saver x1
      • Plaguespreader Zombie x1
      • Castle of Dark Illusions x1
      • Pyramid Turtle x3
      • Rescue Rabbit x1
      • Pumprincess the Princess of Ghosts x1
    • Spells (Total 14):
      • Book of Life x2
      • Call of the Mummy x1
      • Pyramid of Wonders x1
      • Enchanting Fitting Room x2
      • Night Beam x1
      • Tri-Wight x3
      • Forbidden Dress x2
      • Overlay Capture x1
      • Zombie World x1
    • Traps (Total 4):
      • Xyz Effect x1
      • Human-Wave Tactics x3
    • Extra Deck (Total 11):
      • Revived King Ha Des x1
      • Archfiend Zombie-Skull x1
      • Doomkaiser Dragon x1
      • Armory Arm x1
      • Gachi Gachi Gantetsu x3
      • Armor Kappa x2
      • Maestroke the Symphony Djinn x1
      • Number 65: Judge Buster the Adjudicatting Djinn x1
  • Other: The glowing Number is on the inner side of the lower half of his left arm. Makes it kinda hard to see when it's not glowing brightly (when Judge Buster is exerting it's influence, or if it's summoned in a duel).

  • Name: Anabella Rophin
  • Age: 19
  • Gender: Female
  • Appearance: The mark on her forehead is where the Number is supposed to be.
  • Duel Disk and Duel Gazer: The Duel Gazer is the visor-looking thing covering her eyes, and she almost always keeps it on. Her Duel Disk is a matching purple with a chain built in*.
  • Bio: As a resident of Heartland city, one would have expected Anabella to be crazy about dueling, much like 99% of its inhabitants. She wasn't really into dueling though. She knew how to, she lived in Heartland after all, but for some reason, it just wasn't her cup of tea. Then the night of the Numbers came. She was watching the news coverage on the World Dueling Carnival like just about everyone else in her city when Khaos made his announcement. She instantly bolted outside to look for a Number. After 30 minutes of searching, she found it. Number 44, and when she picked it up, images of a legendary knight flashed through her mind before the Number took over. The first thing she did was walk into a card shop and take whatever card she wanted in her deck after beating up the owner. Then she beat up some random dude on the street and took his Duel Disk and Gazer. Then she walked into a clothing store and after dueling a security guard into submission, got into proper Number Hunting gear. And that was only the first day.
  • Personality: Before all this happened, Anabella was a nice girl, and smart too, if a little introverted. Now with the whole Number possession, she is cold, calculating and above all, ruthless. Not overly talkative... unless you get her into a duel.
  • Number: 44: Sky Pegasus
  • Number Personality: Classic Knight Templar while being rash and arrogant to boot. It believes everything it does is in the right and it will do anything to get its hands* on Numbers.
  • Number Hunting Method: Pulls out the soul with a chain-like rein and the soul will spill out over Sky Pegasus, absorbing the soul and Number.
  • Deck: Rein of Tyranny

[up][up] Nman, your deck has exactly 0 Winged-Beast Monsters. Ice Beast Zerofyne is totally useless in your deck.
