[up]25 The Buzz on Maggie was actually quite good. It could have blossomed into a beautiful butterfly if it lasted more than one season.

My Gym Partner's a Monkey. I liked it when it aired. I think it could have better if it focused less on the Gross-Out Show elements.

I'm not LGBT. I just think Rain's really cool. Apologies if my humor gets too painful.

Also, How the Hell does The Buzz On Maggie even begin to compare to Cat Dog? Maggie was the fly embodiment of Manny Rivera and Cat Dog was, well... THAT! Shop, I think I discovered that you just like to complain about Eliot Kid and junk on threads that don't call for it.

I really hated The Buzz On Maggie. But then I'm sure I was out of its target demographic by the time it aired here.

I'm pretty sure Looney Tunes was doing the everyone's-a-jerk meanspirited humour long before Cat Dog. Anyway, you can't blame a decent show for having crappy stylistic imitators if that's what happens.

I don't see what the problem was with Maggie. I watched it way back when, and I still to this day have the damned theme song stuck in my head! It was actually decent, and the very little memories I have of the show were pretty good. But, let's keep this Cat Dog related please!

I've had the themesong stuck in my head pretty much since I first heard it. Is the genre country-western or jazz? Sounds like a bit of both.

Also never heard another theme song quite like it, so good :D

edit

hmmm.

wait how you even imbed videos here?

edit II also I was talking about the Cat Dog theme not the Maggie one, just realised it could be very unclear which I was referring to.

[up]@ #27 - I have to take some major offense to that remark, sadly.

What I meant to say was that I do like this show; I just wish others hadn't copied its humor so much afterward - if only to create a proper image for themselves and make themselves stand out better than simply what was popular at the time (then again, as decent as it was, Cat Dog wasn't too well received as it could've been...).

Even if I had different face, I AM STILL DISGRACED.

This'll be my first post on the forum, so here goes...

I watched Cat Dog as a kid. I only recently read the article here and rewatched the show. I still think it is a good show, every episode has at least a few funny jokes, and God help me, I think it's kinda funny when Cat screams "MYBODYMYBODYMYBODY!!!" (It's in the way he says it...)

What struck me is that there are a lot of episodes where CatDog actually succeeds - "All You Can't Eat," "CatDog Catcher," "Sumo Enchanted Evening," "Escape from the Deep End," "Siege on Fort CatDog," "Adventures in Greaser Sitting," "The House of Cat Dog," "Fistful of Mail" - I could go on...

The show doesn't really strike me as mean-spirited (except for a few episodes, and then only the endings) because CatDog, in about half the episodes (maybe more), end up unharmed or winning at the end. Even if they decide to put a twist into it (e.g. they get unbanned from the Taco Depot but are horribly bloated), their winning/unharmed status is still intact.

In a few episodes, though, like "Rodeo CatDog" or "CatDog Candy" - both of which had funny jokes, mind you - CatDog finally gets popularity and then a deus ex machina comes out so that everyone hates them again. I really didn't like the endings of those mainly because of the fact that they only happened simply to have CatDog go back to the way they were in the beginning... That's as close as it gets to mean-spiritedness for me.

As for most of the characters in the show being jerks... Wasn't that in the theme? "Out on the road or back in town, all kinds of critters putting CatDog down... " It's CatDog vs. the world - being oppressed by authority (Rancid), bullies (the Greasers), and annoying jerks (Winslow). In fact, that's what I think the idea of the show was - two guys versus all the assholes out there in the world.

And who can't relate to that? Who's never been bullied or had an annoying jerk harass you?...

And that's how I feel about the show.

On another note, in retrospect, Lube is hilarious. So are Randolph and Mr. Sunshine.

I think the theme song was paroded in Family Guy.

Remember this quote from the evil baloney episode?

Hitman: That's my favorite episode of the show. It's just downright hilarious.

As an aside - I think that even if you don't like the show, you'd probably have to agree that the songs are great. I re-listened to The Newest Nicktoons, an old compilation CD I have, and the songs from this show are the ones I listen to over and over...

Here's my favorite song from the show. I love the vaudevillian style of this tune.

Oh, and to get in on My Gym Partners A Monkey, I remember it being a rather good show. It was a decent, silly comedy.

Bump

aside from the oh so awesome theme, I don't remember much of this show. I do remember really liking the episode where the blonde poodle like dog who had a crush on Dog tried acting like a lady. I watched that episode all the time as kid. I also liked Cat's voice.

I have noticed that this show's starting to get a lot of criticism. Some say this was the last great nicktoon or the first worst nicktoon -_-

[up] Shriek, you mean?

It's hard not to enjoy Jim Cummings.

I think we, as a culture, are coming to the conclusion that it was neither. There were many great Nicktoons to come (and besides, the only great Nicktoons are Ren And Stimpy and Rockos Modern Life); and there's too many genuinely good aspects (the talented voice cast, the great musical score, the well-done animation) to call it a "worst" anything. (And the worst Nicktoons get is bland anyway.)

Incidentally, I've actually talked to Peter Hannan. Very chummy guy.

[up]Yes!

It's starting to happen to a lot of cartoons now on the internet. At first, they're loved and have little criticism. Then, they start getting ridiculed and some begin to depise it '_'

Huh, I didn't like Winslow moreso than the Greasers. The Greasers had there moments, especially the tall guy (forgot his name) but Winslow to me always came off as an ass even when I was a young kid. But then again I did have actually like both Cat and Dog in that show so....

When I was a young teen I made (but didn't publish) a 10-second flash toon called "CatSteer", in which Cat turned and found he was attached to Heffer instead of Dog. He griped about it, and then Dog (in place as normal) asked, "What's the matter, Petey Pooh?"

My love of voice actors clearly already showed back then.
