I never watched zim, but from the looks of it, it wouldn't really surprise me if the treatment was worse. Everything's so dark and gritty. Honestly don't see the appeal.

That IS the appeal.

Because Gaz is the only smart person in the show's primary cast. Smart enough to see that both Zim and Dib are idiots and beneath her.

it's funny because the reason that dib and zim are both dumb is that they're way too preoccupied with each other. dib isn't actually THAT dumb; he may be a conspiracy nut but he's like the only person besides gaz that seems to notice how incredibly obvious it is that zim is an alien and how stupid everything else in the show is. the thing is he's so focused on the fact that he has a chance to validate his beliefs and rise to heroism that he doesn't seem to be capable of realizing that zim is too incompetent to ever REALLY endanger the earth besides causing some collateral damage every now and then (i have to wonder how he'd feel if he discovered that the only reason zim is on earth at all is to get him out of his species' hair and that they never gave a shit about conquering earth anyway).

with that said, it's really more about the execution than anything else. IZ doesn't pretend to be anything else but a gritty, cynical black comedy show. it knows what it is and does it pretty well. so the fact that dib gets shit on a lot is actually pretty humorous to me. really most people that aren't gaz don't have it very easy in IZ.

If I may revive the thread and change the subject...

Now, My Gym Partner's a Monkey was far from the best Cartoon Network has to offer, maybe because the writers felt they didn't need to put in much effort since it was a kids' show. Still, there's one episode that P.O.ed me from the get-go. The school newspaper is being cut because everyone turns to the news channel, even the main circle of friends who write it. They only run because of its various uses, such as toilet paper, and the school will only provide sawdust as a substitute. ^note Which brings up some Fridge Logic: What kind of crappy school system doesn't provide toilet paper? Why didn't Adam notice this until recently? Adam suggests that they gain readership by going in depth where the news show doesn't. Maybe the recent shortage in lunch items is due to some romantic entanglement? To that, Jake and the gang get started writing that with no investigation whatsoever; just a baseless rumor. The next headline speaks of a human student being involved with the lunch lady. It's painfully obvious that Jake is throwing his best friend under the bus, but when Adam exclaims "You're clearly implying that I'm in love with Mrs. Tusk!", Jake cuts out the first four words and takes it as "proof" of Adam's "involvement". Eventually, he keep baiting Adam to "confess" to more relationships with the school female faculty, even getting Adam to glance at one for all of two seconds and taking it as a confession. Adam cannot get the teachers or principal to do anything, as Jake has Freedom of the Press (Plus they find Jake's lies to be juicy as well), so Adam retaliates with an untrue rumor of his own: namely, Jake has cheek implants. It turns out that Adam is Accidentally Accurate, and Adam get chewed out by everyone for writing something mean that turns out to be true, especially since Jake now has grounds to sue for Defamation of Character. So, all those lies Jake spread didn't defame Adam's character? Slanderous lies are okay, but truthful gossip is bad?! So everyone reaches an agreement: Jake gets the toilet paper he wanted, and he'll drop the charges and stop slandering Adam on the paper. To which he continues slandering Adam on the news show. Basically, Jake humiliates his best friend, manipulates a screwed-up legal system to avoid some well-deserved payback, and when he (and apparently, only he) gets what he needed, keeps slandering his friend For the Lulz. *Sigh* If this overly long tirade is any indication, Jake's one-sided friendship would be a notorious source of nerd rage like "If it Smells Like an Ed" or "Everyone Knows it's Bendy" before it if not for the show's unnotability.

actually, the mods allowed it in the beginning because nobody was whining and they were rather taking about their moments of unfunnyness without complaining.

All I ever hear is whining about shit not being funny enough anymore - just like this whole damn thread unfortunately is. It needs to die, honestly.

Wow. What a bunch of overly sensitive whiners in this thread. Glad it died a long time ago and it should die again.

You know I'm just going to holler at the mods to lock this thread since it delved into people complaining about the complaining on this thread.
