For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B to Z, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.
For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE) to repeat in the chat.
We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

Happy birthday Hitler! I'll light up a spliff today in your honor.
War is God.Wow, taking hats off people will grant you a coaching position at the Independência Futebol Clube (translation: Independence Football Club)? Lucky guy. He won't need to study. He was even chosen by Pelé to boot.
I might pick that as an avatar. Thanks.
4xJust so we're clear, the historical significance of today's date includes:
- Hitler's birth (1889)
- Billie Holiday recording "Strange Fruit" / Hitler's 50th Birthday made a national holiday in Germany (1939)
- CIA-backed invaders surrendering to the Cuban Army at Bay of Pigs (1961)
- Benny Hill's death (1992)
- Columbine High School Massacre (1999)
- Official Unofficial Marijuana Day
Friggin' amazing!

If we want a good movie for some reason, today I learned the Blues Brothers is on youtube for free. We should watch it before it's gone.
I do know that movie had a sequel that was said to be disappointing. If we're looking for "lesser-known bad sequel to good movie", that might fit. Ain't my kind of thing, but others might like it.
Blues Brothers 2000 is like The Empire Strikes Back, compared to our usual fare. It's a stupid, pointless movie with no reason for existing... but we'd enjoy it a hell of a lot more than a lot other stuff we've subjected ourselves to before.
Anyway, to my surprise, it just so happens that in the wake of Billy Zane getting all decked out in purple◊ for a failed movie adaptation for an old-school pulp character, there was an even more curious 90's cartoon that placed the title character ~50 years into the future.
The first 5 episodes of this cartoon were edited into a single movie released on VHS as Phantom 2040: The Ghost Who Walks, and that's what we're gonna have on our agenda later tonight.

I've heard the cartoon is actually really good. It was apparently developed by people who'd worked on the 90s Batman cartoon.
In any case, though, the Phantom has always had a purple suit. It just looks stupider in live action on Billy Zane.
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."I watched a few episodes of the 90s Batman cartoon, but not when I was a kid. I was not a superhero fan and I didn't care for its abstract character designs.
Having seen a few episodes of the cartoon as an adult, I think it's rather hit or miss. Some episodes are great... by 90s standards. Others are blah. Still, I can definitely see the reason for the praise in its time. Nowadays, our standards are higher.
Considering some of the absolute crap that's called itself action animation since 2000, I wouldn't say that.
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."hey i just wanted to apologize for saying stuff like "ill definitely be here" in the chat and then not coming out. irl stuff is something i have *always* had trouble trying to sort out and organize and honestly i feel pretty bad just on a personal level because i am *always* missing good stuff here. i prolly wont be here tonite, even tho the offering looks p awesome. anyway this stuff is all my fault, and all i can do is apologize and say that i really do like hanging out with you guys.
It's fine; you don't need to apologize. IRL priorities always come first, and you're always welcome to hang with us when you have the time for it.
As I've said yesterday, I'll only be here on Friday. Have fun during this week, everyone!
Will do!
Okay, we're getting things rolling now with more episodes of Nickelodeon Guts and Legends of the Hidden Temple.
Then, at the top of the coming hour, we will begin Phantom 2040: The Ghost Who Walks.

"From the producer of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Monty Python and the Holy Grail" (Read: "From a wealthy guy who financed two better movies you have undoubtedly heard of"), comes a harebrained premise geared towards people too stupid to realize this is all a rich person's project: Eat the Rich. It's all right there in the title with its psyche hanging out in full view.
One wonders why the film's budget couldn't have just been donated to more constructive, charitable causes for the underprivileged and the needy, rather than invested in a film in hopes of making back even more money for oneself, which would be hypocritical and counterproductive to the film's mean-spirited ethos. But, hey, this shit didn't rake in any money at a box office, anyway, so at least there's that.
Fun Fact: The Motörhead song of the same name that's featured in the trailer was written especially for this movie, which also features Lemmy in a supporting role.

God damn, fucking complicated tax instructions. And I'm fucking missing a fucking form I fucking need to correct this fucking mistake, that fucking needs to be done no later than 3 fucking weeks, or they freeze my fucking assets.
the phantoms animation was hilariously cheap but it prolly would have been okay with a better budget. it was basically batman beyond but with a character that nobody cares about
People overrate the importance of animation quality.
Rocky And Bullwinkle would never have been accepted in this day and age because nobody would have looked past the often really crude animation to see the clever writing.
Besides, the animation quality improved by the last two episodes we saw.

"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."Alright, we're gonna get things rolling now with more of Retsupurae's slog through Afterfall: Insanity and Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego.
Then, at the top of the coming hour, if we're still hungry for more after all that, we're going to Eat the Rich. Hope it doesn't leave a bad taste in our mouths.

I had a class at Words, Beats & Life Academy (a non-profit organization in the city) and couldn't make it. I might not show up tomorrow either, depending on whether or not I go to class.
It's one thing to make a spectacle. It's another to make a difference. That movie sucked. So much so that one of us left the room, and another person appeared to have gone dormant near the end and didn't vote. Barely avoided an X. (I was the only one - of three - who voted X)
I don't count as the one who left, right? 'Cause I couldn't have stayed if I'd liked it.
:/ If it weren't for the cannibalism (Having people eat stuff that oughtn't be et loses points with me fast), I might have liked it, after getting used to the accents.
i care but i'm restless, i'm here but i'm really gone, i'm wrong and i'm sorry, baby
PLEASE TAKE OFF YOUR HAT. And the logical conclusion with a wig.
Genius.
