They actually address that. He was putting on a smiling face to deal with the then recent 'oops covered myself in blue fur' thing in addition to not feeling like he fit in or contributed to the Avengers. The team was already full of intellectuals, after all.

I actually felt Kitty's new power made sense because her "phasing" is described using a word commonly used to describe in physics a relative temporal shift. So her basic power is actually based on Just One Second Out of Sync and so having a time travel related power is in fact an extension of that.

But then shouldn't her time travel just be conventional? I mean, why the dreaming stuff? Though it does prevent her from being overpowered, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Sending back the memories probably takes a lot less power then sending back an entire person.

It also handily avoids the "same person in two places at once" problem, and it adds narrative tension because Kitty needs to continuously do it for it to work.

Also, nobody cares about Ellen Page. They needed an excuse to have Hugh Jackman go into the past.

As much as I love kitty and I love Ellan Page, I can't pretend when I saw the things they did with Wolverine in that movie and really showed off the character progression five movies can earn, I absolutely understood why they made it be Wolverine travel.

Well, and Kitty wasn't alive in 1973, so she had no body to go back to.

And even if she did, she's be so much younger it'd probably require two different actresses to play the part, which would be troublesome. Wolverine, besides the whole Spotlight-Stealing Squad has the advantage of never aging.

That actually makes a lot of sense. Not only were The Avengers already full of geniuses, but they also have plenty of guys with Super-Strength.

Hank literally had no spot, in addition to having to deal with his Furry blue mutation. No wonder he went for a weirder persona.

There was a little bit of subtext, like he's annoyed that he got a perfectly ordinary and useless mutation while the heroes get telepathy and shapeshifting and whatnot, but it definitely wasn't the focus.

This is just ridicules. Trask height was such a non-issue in this movie that we can't even be certain if he really was a little person or was just played by a little actor.

After hearing about this film's "unanimous acclaim", I finally got to see it, and now, I'd have to rank the films in this order:

  • Days of Future Past
  • X-Men
  • X-2
  • First Class
  • Last Stand
  • The Wolverine
  • Origins: Wolverine

The sheer amount of Call-Back and Continuity Nod was great, plus the additions of the old trilogy's cast. The future/past X-men didn't overshadow each other, I liked that. This movie had the largest number of significant mutants and a wide display of their powers - Blink, Ink, Havok, Xavier, Magneto, Wolverine, Beast, Quicksilver, Mystique, Ice Man, Bishop, Pyro, and more I can't remember at the moment.

I think my favorite part was the first "Flash Forward" after Wolverine gets sent back to the past, right when Stryker showed up. You know the scene.

I'd rate them

  • Days of Futures Past
  • First Class
  • X-Men United
  • The Wolverine
  • Last Stand
  • X-Men
  • Origins

People may be asking me why I rate the first film so low, well I'll say it's because the story is absolutely so simplistic because it was introducing people to the notion of both a world of mutants, but also a superhero movie. What it does it does well, but it's age is really showing in what it was prepared to do.

The Wolverine I had a hard time placing, because it's such a different film from the others, but I congratulate it for it's sheer character focus (Which really payed off in the next film) and nice direction, it's plotting leaves a lot to be desired.

  • Do FP
  • FC
  • The Wolverine
  • X2
  • X1
  • X3

I think First Class may have had the best team superhero fight I've seen on film. There was some really imaginative stuff there, it's obvious they picked the supporting mutants based on their powers.

X3 was decent in that respect, probably the thing it did best. Do FP reserved most of it's coolness for Blink and Warpath, although there were a few cool moves straight out of the comics too. The first movie was incredibly clunky when powers were called for, X2 wasn't much better.

Wolverine was basically an Advertised Extra for Days. He's there to get the ball rolling, but the only real contribution he makes is recruiting Quicksilver. Charlie and Mags are the main characters and Mystique is The Heavy.

People loved First Class, and hated The Last Stand. Huh.

I'm going to guess the portrayal of the Phoenix, as well as Rogue were the big problems (I liked it, since the movies are more down-to-earth), but I detested First Class for some time - that its second to Days for most of you surprises me. I''d still put the first two movies higher.

I'd put Origins higher if not for the utter failure they made with Gambit.

At least we all agree on DOFP. smile

Why did you detest First Class? The primary complaint I've heard about it is that it's nothing like the comics and that Marvel should have done a full reboot with the real First Class rather than bringing in random characters based on their powers.

I loved it - it was my introduction to X-Men (aside from watching the terrible Wolverine Origins on a plane and laughing at it) and the reason I watched any of the other movies, so disparities with comic canon meant nothing to me.

My ranking of the films would be:

First Class > X2 > X-Men > Days of Future Past > The Wolverine > Wolverine Origins > X3: The Last Stand.

DOFP is ranked so low because I simply can't buy that the combination of Magneto's actions and the realization that a shapeshifting mutant could impersonate the president would make humanity less likely to start a war against mutants.

My views are

  • First Class: Fantastic
  • Days of Future Past: Great
  • X2: Good
  • The Wolverine: Decent
  • X1: Mediocre
  • Origins: Never seen, never have seen, odds are, I never will.
  • X3: Beneath grading. Beneath the bottom of the barrel. If I was a worse person I would have demanded my money back.

wolverine was more like a plot divace, we put charles and erick in motion and everything was good, after erick decide to do what he want it wolverine pretty much become a background chararter for the rest of the movie who pretty much become "first class 2, with wolverine"
