I'm interested, just a few objections-

I'm not sure if CB would would continue to deploy Einz during the interventions against A-LAWS if it is in a cobbled together state like Exia, now it was given a restoration/upgrade like the R2...

One, they're in a state where they need every Gundam they can get.

Two, the Eins wasn't designed and built by the main CB group, so it's likely not 100% parts-compatible with the other Gundams. At the very least, its particle conduits were designed to work with the particles of a GN Tau drive, so a proper GN drive might not be very healthy for the suit's innards for prolonged periods. Compounding the problem is that CB had neither the Eins' schematics, nor time to reverse-engineer it to draw schematics up from scratch, so building replacement parts is going to be tricky.

So, for 'Walker's Account' I'm writing some proper ground battles for the first time in a while, in the Central European theater between Treize loyalists (Treizists) and the regular OZ military (aligned with the Romefeller Foundation), namely a straightforward artillery company hunt for a unit of Leo's led by Krist (the named OZ officer who appears in ep. 30—he's the commander of the unit Heero works in). Naturally it goes to shit when it turns out the four Virgos guarding the artillery company are more...unpredictable than expected, the Leos have comparatively few dober guns, and there's not a lot of data on how to fight them at this point, but Krist's troops get a narrow rescue from the (air) cavalry. Still in a very early form.

"We've almost gotten that problem solved, sir!" Flanked on all sides by their comrades, two of the dober guns had kept together while a third attempted to circle around the south of the two Virgos. Nonstop fire from the main group was enough to keep the mobile dolls preoccupied until Centurion 3-7 just barely reached the edge of the defensor field's cover. Its pilot aimed and fired two shots—a Tragos noticed the abundant muzzle flash from the shots, spun on its hovercraft engine and turned it into a fireball with a blast from its two guns. What was left of the Leo collapsed into a smoldering pile, followed by the defensor discs from the Virgos now belching smoke and flames.

"Matterson's machine exploded, but she got both of them!"

"I didn't see her bail, did anyone see a chute?"

Centurion 3-7 was almost certainly dead, Krist knew: direct fire from a Tragos would've turned her to cinders even if it'd hit the thickest armor on her machine. But her maneuver had left a single mobile doll in action, not far from Krist. His beam rifle could only hope to catch its attention—when the power cell ran out, it was useful for nothing at all. He jettisoned the underpowered weapon and drew one of his beam sabers from its housing in his shield, ignited it, then made a short leap on his thrusters towards a Tragos on the edge before driving it into the chassis between the enemy's monoeye and cockpit compartment. With a small cloud of smoke it stopped moving.

Centurion Actual pulled its beam saber out. "Those Tragos are picking us off at a distance, get in close if you have to!"

"That Virgo isn't making it easy for us!"

"I'm starting to get tired of this!" Even with their losses, the surviving Tragos pilots had finally understood the technological limitations of their enemies' equipment: as their mobile dolls with their anti-mobile suit weapons raked the field, they took advantage of the chaos to pick off individual mobile suits and before scrambling back behind the defensor field, if they had to leave it at all. Clever, they've figured out how to shoot-and-scoot.

"Dober guns, do any of you have a clear shot on that…arg!" Centurion 2-1 cried out before a direct hit from a Tragos blasted his machine onto its back and its right out arm of its socket. The enemy was starting to get confident, as the Tragos units advanced along a line forward of their last remaining mobile doll but behind its defensor field, finally raining concentrated fire on Treizists.

They were out of time. Krist noticed the Virgo carefully advancing from its own position behind them, then did the match—he had just enough fuel to do one long jump, clearing more than a hundred meters. The Virgo now had his back to him. Without their unmanned guardian angel, the Tragos would be vulnerable to even the 105 mm autocannons. "Centurion 1-2, 1-3, cover me!" he ordered, just as the other two caught up with him. They weren't going to like what he planned, so he didn't elaborate further.

A high-powered thrust let him clear the distance: he landed dead in the middle of the swirling cloud of dust, just over thirty meters from the mobile doll. He advanced at full speed, hiding as much behind his shield as he could manage, beam saber in his right manipulator.

Then the dust cleared and he made visual contact—the Virgo was looking at him, having turned partially, its beam cannon aimed at its 9 o'clock. He'd been spotted.

He struck with his beam saber, swinging overhead. The Virgo's more agile left arm immediately grabbed his Leo's right arm, stopping the blow. Its monoeye blinked once and rather than bring its beam cannon about, it tightened its grip further and began wrenching the Leo's right arm out.

"Shit, that monster's got Centurion Actual!"

Alarm tones were going off in Krist's cockpit. "What're you idiots waiting for, shoot the Tragii!" he ordered, watching his MF Ds flash red. Still pulling his right arm back, he slammed his left manipulator into the Virgo's torso, knowing it had no human pilot but hoping to at least knock something lose inside.

Nothing happened. His Leo punched again, its beam saber deactivating and falling from the now-useless right arm. He imagined the mobile doll's consciousness chuckling at his efforts. He punched a third time. When his increasingly deformed left manipulator bounced off, the Virgo shuddered violently, and a pair of explosions appeared from where the ultracompact reactor must have been. Its monoeye dimed and it stopped wrenching his mobile suit's arm.

Wait, did that work? A number of new cockpit tones and the overhead roar of low-flying mobile suits quickly dismissed the notion: friendly OZ-07AMS 'Aries' troops continuing their strafing run. They were still bathing the enemy in chain gun and missile fire when the defensor discs fell to the ground and Krist finally got free of the disabled black-and-red monstrosity.

"New contacts, friendly, Aries, mark four, coming from zero-six-zero!"

"Yeah, I see them," Krist mumbled another round of 90 mm fire fell all around him but generally left him unscathed. The Tragos were beginning to route in earnest.

Super early, mind you, literally just typed that this morning. This is, naturally, the reappearance of one of the main characters, Kanna, as the lead Aries pilot (with some Aries equipped with unorthodox weapons I've been discussing with Night and others—I'm liking the idea of Aries mounting pods for 70 or 85 mm unguided rockets if there's a shortage of missiles (each pod only carries four of those) and firing them in big clusters as a quick fix, though rocket pods aren't my specialty—maybe something bigger, like a 127 mm would be more appropriate (this is where I'd defer to experts in military hardware).

I'm also trying to figure out how to work in an appearance by Heero (maybe Krist takes him off after all the pilots he lost in this encounter—the whole experience makes him a little less confident, which is how we see him in the show), if anyone has any ideas.

I'm not so sure a true GN Drive would be a problem for one of the Thrones. According to the wiki the first gen GN-Xs were designed to use full GN Drives as well as Taus. Since the GN Xs are at least partly based on the Thrones I would assume the same would apply to them

Okay, to answer EVA on question: How if ME got crossed with Zeta (and UC in general sense).

The answer is... well... (begin to descend into anti-matter resistant bunker)

On tech dept: Most ME tech basically using magnetic-accelerated slugs as weapons, with ridiculous speed (0.x fraction of speed light), which make most combat without ME shield is basically amount into elaborate suicide.

Also, VI assisted guiding system. Not really as elaborate as newtype-based tech, but when a system good enough to basically pointing all shooty things that doesn't have your IFF, including calculating their maneuver capability (after 1- 2 battles), then you don't really shooting enemies. That's basically "target practice with sentients as target".

On maneuvreability: Anything that has perfected their arts of FTL fighting (by real fighting, of course) will always curbstomps anyone that doesn't have FTL.

Beam weapon: basically, if anything have mass, then ME shield can stop it. "Have very light mass" isn't same with "practically no mass at all". ME shield can be tuned for atmospheric entry, which is quite similar, in my opinion, with required tuning for stopping plasma/ star flares.

Capital ship fighting: UC factions usually don't have capital ships that capable of basically surviving ME dreadnought slugs. Also, their combat range is pathetic. ME ships can basically shelling armada in Earth from Jupiter without fear of retaliation. GARDIAN lasers also works quite far, most decide 10 km is best bet.

Government: Let's face it, turian administration wold be welcomed by either sides of civilians, especially the ones who suffered because of war. The only places can accept Zeonist are batarian space and Terminus.

Do remember one thing that seriously levels the playing field - Minovsky particles. There's a reason that UC Gundam is a Schizo Tech setting, and that is it. Mass Effect's highly networked technology and advanced sensors would be utterly mauled before they even made contact with a mobile suit squadron.

What's precedent ever done for us?

Ugh... I don't want to sound disruptive, but is there even a point in talking about an ME crossover? For one, ME's technological levels and setting is impossible to cross with any other sci-fi verse without one side being able to utterly curbstomp the other. It just can't be done.

For another... nobody's going to write it anyway, as nobody with sufficiently in-depth knowledge of both verses and sufficient mental faculties to not Black Hole Sue the shit out of the plot in his preferred faction's favor has either the motivation, the writing skill, or both. It's a curse I've seen with many of my favorite sci-fi verses.

@Bomber: Er, wot?

In the other thread, the Lyrical Nanoha fanfic thread, I'd been wondering about an MGLN x Zeta crossover. No Mass Effect involved at all.

That said, I do see where my bringing it up as a Non Sequitur like that would cause come confusion...

As far as I can see, the second set of options is about determining which verse he got tossed into.

The first I think is G Gundam, but the others... I have no idea.

  • Massive shoulder pauldrons sounds a bit like a Taurus, but green and bulky isn't. Quin Mantha, maybe?
  • Blue-and-white MS with huge rifle doesn't sound familiar. Or rather, my first guess would be the Hi-Nu, but Bernie doesn't recognize this one as a Gundam. Barbatos, maybe? Its head is sufficiently different from the NT-1's that Bernie might not immediately recognize it as a Gundam. But Barbatos doesn't have a shield...

Only the first three episodes, and THAT was a good year or two ago.

Haven't done the second half or so of Gundam Wing yet, either.

EDIT: And now it has its own proper thread.

EDIT 2: Seems like the present tend is looking at an encounter with the bluenette brawler from Sweden. 'f you wanna change that, amita, wouldn't hurt ya to go in there and drop a vote.

Emma, Roux, Elle, and Allenby all qualify off the top of my head. And technically, Sayla piloted the RX-78 once.

And if you count DWG, Lunamaria seems to sortie in the Destiny as often as she does in Char's custom Zaku; Lacus usually seems to show up in the Infinite Justice; Cecily pilots the F91...

@Eva: Do you mind if I use your Shinn rant you posted last page in my fanfic? I may have found a way to get that to work.

In other news, I've made an Accidental Pun in Chapter 5's title. For the last three chapters, I've been naming them after the standard G Gundam fight starter. Chapter 3 was "Gundam Fight!", Chapter 4 was "Ready?", and Chapter 5 is "Go". In Japanese, go is 5. I did not plan that at all.
