At that point it becomes just as stale as the Mario VS Donkey Kong series, though.
So I'm more excited for Super Mario Odyssey than I ever have been for any Mario game, which is weird, because I think Super Mario 64 is overrated and I kinda sorta hate Sunshine. I'm a fan of the more linear Mario games like Galaxy and 3D World, but that trailer was so packed full of awesome, I can't help salivating. It's going to be incredible.
On top of that, New Donk City is full of Donkey Kong Country references! Yes! I'm a bigger fan of Donkey Kong than I am of Mario, and I'm glad Donkey Kong references are front and center in the trailer. That series always seems to get swept under the rug.
As for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, battle mode is back and the squidkids are in it. You better believe I'm forking over the cash.

Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?... I can't believe I only just now hashed out that New Donk City is supposed to be the city from Donkey Kong.
I wonder if Bowser ends up taking residence in the now-completed 100m skyscraper?
I sure said that!Dat Bowser Zeppeli with Speedwagon hat
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!I think the city is just called "Big City" in Donkey Kong '94 and Donkey Kong Land. I know Nintendo games aren't known for their stringent adherence to continuity, but this is probably an unrelated Kong-themed city.
EDIT: Shit, we don't have a page for Donkey Kong Land? Anyone wanna make it?

Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?I never played that game (I didn't even have a handheld system until the DS. Which sucks since I wanted a GBA badly), so I'm afraid I can't help with that cause (besides, right now I have a very slow connection that could potentially compromise my editing).
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300I wouldn't be surprised if the "humans" in New Donk City are actually a completely separate race from the "humans" of the Mushroom Kingdom. Maybe they're called Donkmen.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page. Most of the people living in the Mushroom Kingdom are toads to begin with. The "humans" are Mario, Luigi, Peach, and I guess the likes of Daisy and Wario if we want to be inclusive and count spin-offs. Other than that it's just a bunch of monster races like Goombas, Koopas, Chain Chomps, etc.
Diamond City in the WarioWare games has cartoony humans, too, but those characters aren't allowed to be in the extended Mario cast for some reason.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.Speaking of people who aren't exiled, I find it a little curious that multiple elements from SMB 2 have made their way into Mario canon...except for Wart.
It would be real neat if we got a Mario game where it seems like we're going to fight Bowser like usual, except it turns out that Wart's behind the whole mess.
It's the opposite with the Land games. Daisy and Wario are the only characters (and, by extension, elements of any sort) who made it beyond the boundaries of the neglected Mario land games. It's a shame, because the main concept of 6 Golden Coins is brilliant. And it has a set of worlds (tree, space, water, giant, mansion, machinery, castle) that hasn't been seen again in a 2D game (it doesn't help that one of the Dummied Out elements of the first New SMB is a level set in a haunted village, similar to Pumpkin Zone).
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300Yeah, that's been really confusing.
DKC characters has been very off-and-on for the spinoffs and all that but the Wario Land and Ware casts have never directly shown up- I think the closest we've ever gotten was a Diamond City track in one of the arcade Mario Karts.
I sure said that!I think it's because Wart is technically the main villain in Doki Doki Panic.

Wart, Tatanga, K. Rool. They've all been super neglected. I'd kill for a Mario game that was dedicated to bringing back the most obscure, forgotten characters from the Mario series history.
To be fair, I think Retro's plotting to bring K. Rool back- They snuck references to him into both DKC games they've already done, and I'd be slightly surprised if they opted not to make it into a trilogy.
I sure said that!Mario & Wario and Wario's Woods?

Both of which were decades ago.
I sure said that! What hints? I haven't played Tropical Freeze, but I don't remember anything from DKCR referencing him.
Also doesn't Nintendo own the copyrights for the original characters they created for Doki Doki Panic? Does Wart belong to Fuji Television or something?

"I'd kill for a Mario game that was dedicated to bringing back the most obscure, forgotten characters from the Mario series history."
Emphasis added by me.
I meant bringing back Wanda and some of the characters from Woods.

Even though I like WarioWare's cast, I kinda want to see some RPG characters in the spinoffs, too.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.Nintendo paid for Geno to be in Superstar Saga.
That caught me off-guard really hard when I found out about it, because I hadn't run into him on my first playthrough and I thought Nintendo would have never used him again.
They're too busy shoving the Koopalings everywhere to remember that E. Gadd or Fawful exist apparently.

There's little excuse for the first one, but Fawful is flat-out dead as far as I'm aware.
Speaking of Fawful, I feel like he's one of Nintendo's localization masterstrokes and proof that sometimes "making shit up" for the localization works to the game's benefit.

TBH I can't think of anything I liked about NSMB that 3D World didn't do better.
