yeah man lowercaseHow about Regina Spektor, since she's got a new album coming out at the end of May.
Of course, the problem with an "Introduction to" for Regina Spektor is that it gives listeners no idea if they'll like most of her music. More than most artists, Spektor plays around with styles and genres. The only thing that remains consistent is her piano.
So, keeping in mind the impossibility of actually representing Regina Spektor's style, here's 10 songs I really like by her. I'm not going to worry too much about making sure all her albums are represented.
10. Pavlov's Daughter - Starts off with a very old blues feel, as she scats over a very simple drum beat. Then she starts playing her piano, with a rock swagger to he playing and her vocals.
9. Eet - A well-crafted, melancholic pop song.
8. Time Is All Around - A very pretty song with a bittersweet feel to it.
7. Poor Little Rich Boy - Her piano and what sounds like a guy knocking a stick of wood on a counter or something. But it's really effective.
6. Samson - Based on the Biblical story of Samson and Delilah, but a variation on it, with the pair genuinely in love, and Delilah cut his hair at his request, so he wasn't able to knock down the pillars, causing them to be forgotten by history. It's a really sweet, pretty song.
5. On the Radio - Kind of a fun tune. It also references November Rain twice. Even aside from that, though, it's a really good song.
4. Hotel Song - Her vocals are really nice here. Very pleasant.
3. Back of A Truck - This one has a classic blues feel to it. It's just her on her piano, coming up with weird, sometimes barely sensical lyrics, and her voice grows and drops exactly when it needs to.
2. Better - A well-crafted pop song. Great energy, nice lyrics, and just a really, really good song.
1. Fidelity - A perfectly-crafted pop song. It's a great song about falling in love, how it's terrifying and wonderful.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.I actually really, really like Regina Spektor.
I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception.Same here. I don't like all her songs, but that's natural, considering how she tries to make each one different. But she's got a whole lot of songs that I absolutely love. Cutting it down to 10 was actually really tough, because I had to leave off some great tracks. Looking forward to her new album.

Damn, this was hard. Deliberately restricted myself to one per album and nothing off any of the Best Ofs and compilations (because a hell of a lot of people bought their first Best Of, and everybody and their dog knows Sit Down and Laid by now). This meant skipping some phenomenally well-known tracks, and some that some people think are vital to understanding the band (yes, I mean Getting Away With It (All Messed Up)).
So...
- 1) Why So Close (from Stutter, 1986)
- 2) Riders (from Strip-Mine, 1988)
- 3) Crescendo (from the first release of Gold Mother in 1990; replaced with Sit Down on the 1991 release, but added as a bonus track to a rerelease in 2001)
- 4) Live A Love Of Life (from Seven, 1992)
- 5) P.S. (from Laid, 1993)
- 6) Pressure's On (from Wah Wah, 1994)
- 7) Play Dead (from Whiplash, 1997 - how this hasn't appeared on a Best Of yet is utterly baffling)
- 8) Shooting My Mouth Off (from Millionaires, 1999)
- 9) Gaudi (from Pleased To Meet You, 2001)
- 10) Of Monsters And Heroes And Men (from Hey Ma, 2008)
I think.

David Bowie 1947-2016Impossible to choose one favourite band, so I just took three that I personally feel are in need of more love.
Ima Robot:
- "Song #1" | Ima Robot
- "Dangerous Life" | Monument to the Masses
- "A is for Action" | Ima Robot
- "Dynomite" | Ima Robot
- "Creeps Me Out" | Monument to the Masses
- "Dirty Life" | Ima Robot
- "Stick It to the Man" | Monument to the Masses
- "Let's Talk Turkey" | Ima Robot
- "Paint the Town Red" | Search and Destroy (EP)
- "Cool Cool Universe" | Monument to the Masses
Actually, this one was so tiresome that I'll post the other two later.

Interesting! I think I'll try my hand at Queen (I hope I don't screw up formatting this):
Queen: Heaven For Everyone (An Introduction To Queen's Varied Side)
- Doing Alright
- Bring Back That Leroy Brown
- '39
- Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy
- Sheer Heart Attack
- Mustapha
- Dragon Attack
- Life Is Real
- Party (Khashoggi's Ship)
- Bijou
The March Of The Black Queen (An Introduction To Queen's Progressive Side)
- Liar
- My Fairy King
- The March Of The Black Queen
- In The Lap Of The Gods
- The Prophet's Song
- It's Late
- Princes Of The Universe
- Innuendo
You may wonder why I left out some of their more famous songs, and that's because they have dozens of compilations they're on already! These are both introductions to the sides of Queen that the general public probably doesn't know much about, if that makes sense.
EDIT: Apparently I did screw up the formatting because I was oblivious as to what it filled in for me and what I had to add in manually. My bad!

Angra:
- "Spread Your Fire" | The Temple of Shadows
- "Heroes of Sand" | Rebirth
- "Winds of Destination" | The Temple of Shadows
- "Awake From Darkness" | Aqua
- "Ego Painted Grey" | Aurora Consurgens
- "Fireworks" | Fireworks
- "The Shadow Hunter" | The Temple of Shadows
- "Bleeding Heart" | Hunters & Prey (EP)
- "Acid Rain" | Rebirth
- "Passing By" | Aurora Consurgens
- "Sirius/Eye in the Sky" (Eye in the Sky): their most famous song/pair of two songs, and also a great introduction to their style.
- "I Robot" (I Robot): One of APP's best instrumentals, and an example of their more progressive earlier work.
- "Games People Play" (The Turn of a Friendly Card): another extremely popular song. Also has a rocking guitar solo.
- "Prime Time" (Ammonia Avenue): Just an all around good song.
- "Can't Take it With You" (Pyramid): Somewhat atypical of APP's style, but still great.
- "(The System Of) Dr. Tarr and Professor Fether" (Tales of Mystery and Imagination): One of APP's signature sophisticated funk songs, and a rare example (similar to Can't Take it With You above) of a really great APP guitar riff.
- "Don't Answer Me" (Ammonia Avenue): A very popular song, with a very nice 60's pop vibe to it.
- "Old and Wise" (Eye in the Sky): A signature APP ballad, incredibly emotional even with its minimal lyrics.
- "La Sagrada Familia" (Gaudi): While it begins its album, this song seems like a great place to end. It comes off their last album, and is undoubtedly the best song on that album (and indeed, the best song since Ammonia Avenue.)

Dead Can Dance :
- In Power We Entrust the Love Advocated / Garden of the Arcane Delights
- The Writing on my Father's Hand / The Serpent's Egg
- Tell Me about the Forest (You Once Called Home) / Into the Labyrinth
- Ascension / Spleen and Ideal
- In the Wake of Adversity / Within the Realm of a Dying Sun
- The Promised Womb / Aion
- Song of the Dispossessed / Spiritchaser
- Towards the Within / Into the Labyrinth
- Ocean / Dead Can Dance
- Persephone (The Gathering of Flowers) / Within the Realm of a Dying Sun
Ten tracks only is fucking hard. And yes, I know, there are a lot missing here. No How Fortunate the Man with None, no Cantara (even if in all honesty the list could've easily contained Within the Realm of a Dying Sun in its entirety), no Indoctrination (A Design for Living), no Host of Seraphim, no Ulysses, no Mr Lovegrove, no... You get the idea.
I concentrated on making a varied playlist instead of only sticking to my favorites, and alternate between instrumental/Brendan/Lisa tracks. And I'm not even too sure about the track order.
Yeah it's my favorite band, can you tell ? ^^
